From the androgyny of Prince, to the vocal mannerisms of Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger, Little Richard's impact on pop culture was ubiquitous. James Brown began his career as a Little Richard impersonator, Hendrix started playing guitar in Richard's band and Michael Jackson deemed him a major influence. A pioneering figure in the development of soul and funk, Little Richard is most remembered as a founding father of early Rock'n'roll. Little Richard was an incredible performer. He would work himself into total exhaustion by the end of his set. He was not really sane, of course, but what a gift it was to see him live with his own band in the 1960s. NOBODY packed more wallop than Richard & I saw the Stones live back in those days.
Richard once said that Elvis Presley was "a blessing"...because Elvis LOVED "black music", and brought it to a white audience, and brought MANY black artists into more opportunity than they ever could have attained otherwise...
It's impossible to listen to this man's music and not be overcome with excitement and energy. Dancing wildly is one of the side-effects of his music. His songs should come with a warning label. RIP Little Richard. You were one of the greats! ❤

Despite all the things these people went through they still got on that stage and gave us the biggest show you can imagine it almost feel like you was there.....Thanks to all..
Thanks for this Noel. I think it's hard for today's younger folks to understand (or even believe) what it was like for Black musicians back when Little Richard came along. When I was growing up in the South, we (Blacks) didn't hear black music on the radio and if Black musicians were ever on t.v., our t.v. screen would suddenly fade to black. When the Black artist finished, our t.v. screen would fade back to lights, camera, action! And this was not in the 1800s!
Little Richard truly was a pioneer that set the foundational stones of what would become Heavy metal/grunge/ Rock and roll and many other genres of rock.
I don't know how one can calculate Little Richards contributions to American culture. But it was great. He is the true father of Rock-n-Roll, in my opinion. His influence casts a long shadow over all pop music that came later. R&B, Funk, Rock, Punk, disco etc all owe something to him. His energy on stage was unmatched. He was the first gender bending superstar. He was the first gay rock icons. He paved the way for black artists to become mainstream to the horror of post-war white suburban parents. Cheers to an innovator, one of the brightest stars of the 20th century, and a true legend. Rest in Power Richard. We love you.
