Hope I'm not to late to the party but my goal is to start a small scale mushroom farm starting in my garage then hopefully purchasing some land over the next few years. Your videos have been great. I have a feeling I'll reach out more over the next few months. Great content. !
Very inspirational as per normal. Thanks so much for the videos. You guys got me into the low tech method of growing mushrooms. I'd like to develop a business hopefully once life gets back to normal. Stay safe everyone.

Outstanding video, jam-packed with only highly useful information for any and all types of would-be growers. Im going to award you the Cap of Excellence
I put about 10 shinny pennies in a plastic zip lock baggy with the baggy half full of water, and hang them around your farming area and flies will stay away. I put them at my back door and front door to keep flies out of my house, and it works!
@@beckhamdao6715 From what i have researched the light reflecting off the pennies through the water makes the fly think its a predator, like a lizard or a frog. All i know is, it works. I have been doing it for several years and have had no flies in my house.
Hello, thank you for so much great information, very appreciated! I'm a lab-mycologist planning to build a small mushroom farm - could you please tell me what is the best material to build a total of 30 m² incubation and fruiting rooms, in a relatively hot place? Is PU sandwich panel a well suited material? Or are RW? Thanks again!
Loved the video, very informative. Very quick question. I have 500sq ft space at home and looking at small commercial business do you think that’s enough to get started and any rough estimates on costings to fit that out? Many Thanks Jon
Yes that is definitely enough space to grow in...rough estimates on costs are really hard to say it it depends on so many different factors... we'll make a video on this topic in the near future to give more detail and guidance
Hi, good afternoon. I'm from Spain and I'm doing a project about a mushroom growing business. Could you tell me what design program you used to make the fuctification room?
Would two 40' shipping containers be enough space to build a lab, incubation room, and a multi sectional fruiting space for different species? Growing using hanging logs is it possible to grow 200lbs a week? I am trying to low cost as much as possible. Under $25k Canadian if possible. I am considering grow tents to isolate species and for ease of cleaning minimizing contamination. I see a lot of people growing in less than sterile conditions but can you have that kind of yield? Oysters cost about $3 at the supermarket there is no competing with that unless you could grow thousands of kilos. Although they only carry white and black and king. Other strains could be sold for higher as they dont exist in stores yet hopefully till my gf and I can get them there. We are not looking to be rich just 60 to 80k profit a year operation would be enough to make us happy.
I was told today that the shipping containers have heavy chemical treatments to endure long sea travels that are very bad for us. Is this true or just a myth? Or do you buy brand new shipping containers with none of these treatments? Thank you for the great videos!
lovely video thank you for this. What SF in total for all 3 spaces would you recommend if I wanted to produce 40-50 lbs a week of a diversity of 5-7 different types of edible mushrooms? (I know it depends on what type, but a general mix of king oyster, chestnut, oyster, shaggy mane, enoki) for example thanks!
Exhaust is really the only practical way to deal with spore build up. They'll eventually gunk up your AC if you're growing at scale. The other option is having really good indoor filtration but that's going to add to your maintenance costs.
Why couldn't yo just have long trays, 30 feet long, 4 inches deep and maybe 2 feet wide, lay the substrate in it , cover it w plastic, punch holes all over it and have the shrooms growing straight up. You could have them coming out of the entire setup instead of just here and there from hanging bags?
You could, but there's some reasons you might not want to. Different species have different habits. The oysters, which you saw coming out in clusters on the side of bags fruit that way in nature. They would be on a log, and the mushrooms would erupt from a small basal area- sideways- out of the log. Shitake is pretty much the same, as is Lion's mane. Agaricus bisporus (the button mushroom from the grocery store) fruits exactly as you suggested, and indeed those mushroom farms often use trays that are "cased" with a thin layer of soil to make them fruit standing upright and spread densely, but separately, across the trays surface. Another reason not to do that is contamination. If you get contamination in a large tray of substrate, you could lose more work (and $) than if a bag went bad. That can be dealt with quickly and safely for the other bags of healthy 'shrooms.

This information priceless. The US needs more mushroom farms
Just wanted to say thank you very much for the informative content, I've decided to do a 90 day test run and your channel has been an enormous help ❤
I love the way you clearly outline the steps and concepts. Great Job!!!
do you have a video that tells me what size each room would need to be relative to each other? YOU HAVE THE BEST MUSHROOM CHANNEL I HAVE FOUND!!!

Great Content! Just one point of feedback, the video audio was a little low, I had some trouble hearing even after cranking up the volume to max.
Agreed. This is a great video in terms of information, though a bit of audio/visual editing would bring this video up a few notches.
I’m getting dressed right now to go sign papers on my shed. Building it out for a gourmet urban mushroom farm. 10x20x14’ tall. Gonna go solar powered
Thanks for this great info!! Hoping to build a farm one day, currently in the research phase.

@GroCycle great video, much appreciated. I've got a questions. Can the incubation room and mixing room also be tents? Is it worth it, any cons?
Thanks guys! you are the best!!!! 👌👌👌👌 you just became my fav youtubeShroomerz!!!! 😍😍👌👌👍👍👍👍

I heard you saying high levels of CO2 for incubation room what would be the right level of CO2 to prevent them pinning.

Hi! I like all your videos and thanks for many useful informations. And I have a thing to wonder, that if using long plastic how spawn breaths ?
The bags that you use to hang has a filter? Or is just a bag without a filter?

can you grow termite mushroom with this setup?
Thanks for your video. Have you tried Blue LED Lights for mushroom fruiting room? If so, how you compare the result to day light led light?
What are the grow bags made of? Is it a recyclable material?

You generally want an insulated refrigerated container for growing purposes. These are lined with stainless steel for food safety reasons.
Amazing
What kind of bags are these?
How many Kg of mushrooms per week would be considered ‘small scale’

Can I make a big tent with tarp and duct tape?
Can you teach me how to grow straw mushroom?
Thank you sir. Thank you.
What type of indoor light and photoperiod would you recommend in an oyster or shiitake fruiting chamber?
Mushrooms don't need light to grow, only to know in which direction to grow. I use a 12/12 hour cicle, but the type of light isn't that crucial

it really does depend on a lot of different factors but very roughly you would be looking at 200ft2 or more
Do air-condition room for mushrooms need exhaust or ventilation
Were you able to find an answer to this question? I’m also wondering ideal temperature and humidity levels.

@@IrishJenHealy Depends on the mushroom. Sure there's a range, but for the best yield you really need to dial in those two variables.
