As a man I never know what to say or if I should even watch the video but honestly I’m glad I did. I honestly wish we learned more about what women & girls go through in school, it sounds terrifying. Every time I hear about this, there is another symptom I’ve not heard about before. It’s no means the same thing but I’ve bad IBD and I would’ve in the past actually suffered instead of daring to get period meds if buscopan wasn’t available (it’s often the same ingredient for cramps). It’s so stupid, it could be for a girlfriend 🤷♂️ I think it does reflect how ingrained this is still a taboo in society. I hope things are changing & I am happy your BF is kind and sensitive towards you but actively not reducing you to “her time of the month” trope. I can’t speak for the women & girls but in society in general we need more of these videos. Even though us men have a lot less issues, there still some but no one talks about them unless it’s a very intention health campaign kind of way & usually it’s just for teenagers. It’s crazy to think about but some of your viewers might not even get this comprehensive advice about the pill due to local culture stigmas.
I've been dealing with crappy symptoms all my life. Feels like I only get one week of no symptoms in a month cycle. Been off the pil for a while. Appreciate u taking about this .
I found the first few months off the pill my PMS was the worst and then it hit a sort of equilibrium and my symptoms toned down. I hope that happens to you. Keep going, girl.
Sorry but I’ve gotta say a few things …. 1: I LOVE your sarcasm I litterally feel like we have the same sense of humour I’m laughing so bad at what you say / how you say it just because it’s how I’d say somethings I find you so funny 😂. 2: THANKYOU for being so fucking real and down to earth about all of this. I feel like I’ve watched so many other videos on this and the girls talking make this out to be a spiritual, airy fairy rainbows and unicorns experience. When deep down I’m dreading coming off but I know I need to. Love ya
I’ve never been on the pill but one week before my lady times I feel like I’m going crazy…I will feel Super ugly and on the verge of tears. I also am so drowsy like I could fall asleep at any moment and my stomach hurts plus I get bloated and a little sprinkle of pimples…then a few days later I get my period and I realise that’s why I felt so bad!!! I also feel like eating pastry 🥐 during my period I still force myself to go to work and do exercise but I try and talk nicely to myself when I feel like everything Is so hard. When it’s all over a week after I feel way better and o also probably loose 1-2 kg…but then before I know it it’s the next month 😅
Dearest, how are you? I just want to let you know, you can take your time as much as you need, but you are doing so well on RUclips, please don’t throw away all your previous work in the trash, keep going baby! With all my care and respect, put yourself together and make a video! You can do it.
I'm sorry that I chuckled through this xx yes, I've had that plus the crippling, blinding migraines that would put me out for 3 days each time. Truly horrible time. It's a little better now, BUT I'm now at the opposite end to you...last yr I started menopause and I thought I was losing my mind. My weight gain and unbelievable anxiety mearly finished me. I was actually PRAYING for my period to return! Thank God for HRT!
I specifically got on birth control because my periods were so insane.. but even on birth control for 12 plus years my doctor wasn't listening when i would say i literally hemorrhage every period.. commuting was a nightmare. I would get stuck just gushing blood on a subway or a train or bus - it was HELL. Because of that i was anemic and low iron for years. I finally switched doctors and she changed my medicine and sure enough no more heavy periods.. I would rather not be on birth control pills as i try to stay away from unnecessary medications but this actually changed my life.
So sorry to hear its been such a rough ride. I hope things will get better but it took me about 9 months to adjust. My symptoms - mostly just pimples, minor cramps. Nothing to bad.
Please keep going. I was never on the pill but I used to have horrible periods, where I had to sit in the bathroom for hours and did not know which gadget i will have to use, because i was coming from everywhere. I always took a pain killer on the worst day of my period. Cravings are real and I am also still very hungry. Raw carrots (a lot of them) can help you balance the hormones. We have painful period in the family but as soon as my hormones got better the period is 90% better. It is helpful to make a period communication plan so people do not get hurt by our hormonal misbehavior.
You're describing post birth control syndrome... acne, painful cramps, headaches, heavy periods, mood swings, etc. - I quit birth control over a decade ago, don't get nervous though, for me it lasted about 2 months but I've heard of cases that last up to 5 or 6 months... no longer than that.
Hang in there. Thank you for sharing. Stay strong, I couldn’t deal with all the turmoil specially mine lasting 4 months and then 2/3 wks after that. I should have stuck it out longer but after 2yrs I went back to depo/the shot. I can deal with the moods, cramps, pimples etc but I can’t deal with the bleeding and how gross I felt. Yes I used tampons but still, I always felt gross and everything gets stained lol.
Thank you so much for doing this series!!! I already love your channel so much and I look forward to what you'll do next with it but I hope you'll do another update video for this series! I'm planning on going off the pill and I'm so nervous but this series makes me feel way less alone so I can turn to it and know what sorts to expect. ❤
Yes, all these symptoms you have experienced are normal. As I got older (I think by my mid 30s), the symptoms got a little better. For example, I don't really get cramps, headaches or nausea anymore. I do still have the chest tenderness/soreness, increased hunger and irritability/mood issues right before my period. It also seems to be not as heavy and a little shorter in duration (3-4 days instead of 5)....so, I guess these are things for you to look forward to!
Thank you so so so so much dear for sharing this video and I really love your videos so so much you inspired me so so much and I wish you reach 50K Subscribers very very soon!✨💞✨
I remember giving birth to my daughter at 25 never experiencing period problems than boom the pain came every month. Fast forward 20 years and perimenopause rears its ugly head. Us women need medals for the battles we go through. Yes, I had spots like that Caitlyn 4 to be exact a couple of weeks ago. The hormonal effects of perimenopause, apparently theres 46 symptoms JUST 46 🙄😂😂❤
The pill didn’t help my period symptoms at all, just gave me a way to skip my period, so things got better when I went off it. Even off the pill I get every symptom you described, headaches, cramps so bad sometimes I literally throw up from the pain, can’t stop eating a day or 2 before, holding up to 2kgs in water weight about 2 or 3 days before & then I will loose it all again during, swollen tender (sometimes straight up painful) boobs, bloating, extremely weird & uncomfortable heavy dragging down feeling, heavy bleeding, extreme fatigue, irritable & often completely irrational & slightly delusional (certainly not safe for me to drive for the first few days of bleeding). None of them every time, but always a random mix of a few. Now I’m peri menopausal, we can add hot flushes & a completely unpredictable cycle as well.
Oddly I started birth control because my mood swings were so insane that I told my boyfriend that I felt out of control so he asked if I thought going back on birth control (after being off of it for over a year) would help. I've now had my IUD for almost 5 years now and I need to get it taken out. Currently deciding if I should get another or just go off birth control all together. My periods used to be so bad that I'm a little scared to do so. I used to have cramps that would make my knees buckle but luckily I didn't experience the nausea. Thanks for sharing the experience. It's giving me a bit of courage to just not get a new IUD when this one is done.
I can only assume you have the Mirena IUD in, because you mentioned the 5 years. Talk to your doctor about it because the Mirena was approved for 7 years in the EU and the FDA just approved it for 8 years. So maybe you (if that is what you want) can still have it for another few years.
After 15 years, I'm on week one of coming off the pill 😬 I am fatigued. My sweet cravings are increased. I'm going to start on inositol supplements as they are meant to help with regulating hormones naturally. It just sucks you have to import good quality myo inositol supplrments. Thankyou for this video series. It is so important
I love that you are talking about this! I have definitely experienced all the things you have discussed (I have indeed bought myself a whole cake during my period lol) - emotional, nausea, cramps, angry acne, and general lethargy leading up to my period and within the first few days of it. I’m gonna guess all your symptoms are especially strong since you are just getting off of the pill, hopefully in a couple of months they’ll tone down/ you’ll get used them since you know it’s that time of the month! Some tips! For cramps I have a heating pad that I lay on my stomach or I try to get my cat to lay on my belly (Flynn would work for you!) since the warmth is very soothing. Also, it’s soooo hard to workout during your period but it actually helps you feel better so I suggest pushing through the initial discomfort and working out anyway. It’ll help with the cramps and get your mind to focus on something else. Happy pill free period-ing!
I was put on the pill when I was 16 (for acne, I remained a virgin for many years beyond that). I was on it until I was… 35? I liked that it kept my periods VERY regular, like clockwork. But my husband had a vasectomy right after we got married (no babies wanted), so two years later I finally stopped taking it. I don’t recall having any issues with stopping. Like none. Now, almost 5 years later, my periods are shorter… but I have worse cramps, worse headaches, it’s 2-4 days late all the time (occasionally early) and I have a lot of fatigue. I miss the days of the pill! But I also know it’s not good for you (and I have no need for it), so I won’t go back on. I think people’s experiences with the pill run the entire gambit, from helpful to harmful.
I have Endometriosis. My cramps got hella worse as I got older. The only thing that helped was a handful of pain pills for a day, which I really did need b/c I was incapacitated as I would be doubled over in pain. Oddly enough, my cramps usually were really bad for 24 to 32 hours and that was it. But yeah, nauseous to the point I drooled, and (now this is really gross) but I was a shit factory! Like 6 times in one day, massive ones too, only for one day tho, and I was regular! My boobs, let's put it this way. I was normally a DD during "off" time. But when that week would hit, DDD!! And mood swings from hell, I'm lucky I'm still married. Welcome to hell week my friend!
WATCH YOUR IRON OKAY.....IM OLDER AND MY FIRST TWO DAYS ARE HORRIBLE CANT EVEN REALLY GO ANYWHERE LOL BUT THE IRON HELPS AND YES I CANT BELIEVE ARE BODIES GO THRU THIS TAKE CARE JEN
Those are basic symptoms of a period. I tried the pill and didn’t like it since I have struggled remembering to take them so I got onto the IUD, which was also horrendous since I bled for 3 months nonstop in the beginning. But I could get cramps so bad the first day that I barely eat anything and then after that, I feel hungry all the time 😅
I’m so glad you’re doing this series! I’ve considered going off the pill, but for all the reasons in this video is why I’m nervous about trying it. Like you mentioned in another video, I’d like to know how I’ll feel without pumping hormones into myself. I’m quite a bit older than you and not far from the next womanly phase, which means I don’t have a real long time before doctors stop prescribing the pill. Ugh. At this stage in life one would think I’d be comfortable with bodily functions, but nope.
I took contraceptives twice for three months each. Both times I gained 25 pounds during those three months, became depressed and lethargic. Afterwards it took me years to lose the weight. For some reason my body has a bad reaction to hormone pills. I would rather be uncomfortable for a few days each month than be depressed all the time.
So my periods are highly irregular and always have been (I started at 9 and I’m now 29). But in the last year or two they’ve been really, really bad. I’m currently on day 2 of mine after 3 months with no period. I always say it comes back with a vengeance because it hurts so much. My cramps are fetal position, level 6 pain on Tylenol type of cramps. I feel the blood clots passing and it’s awful. My nipples hurt if anything even brushes them, bras are a hard no… it’s absolutely awful. I’m Factor 5 at high risk for blood clots so I can’t take birth control and never have… but sometimes I wish I could so I didn’t have to feel this way. Nauseous, exhausted, headaches, bloated (like 2 sizes), moody, cry at everything, diarrhea, hot at night, etc. so glad I work from home cuz going into an office was always awful at this time. It’s just awful. Lol. The only good thing about it is how skinny I feel the day after the period ends 😂
Never been on the pill, but am considering it lol. My symptoms aren't too bad -- I get exhausted, sometimes I have insane migraines, and back pain. I bleed for seven days, tho, and that is kinda the worst for me.
I‘m off the pill for like 2,5 years or something and it was one of the best decisions. I never thought I had bad symptoms on the pill, turns out I did 😬. Lost more than 20kgs after for example. But it was rough, didn’t have a period for like 6 months (or even longer) and after that it was/ is kind of irregular (never had that before going on the pill). My skin was horrible for at least half a year, I had hairloss and all the fun stuff. But it’s all better now. Now I still hope to have regular cycles again (but I feel like the vaccines and covid itself threw it off). So yeah, don’t regret it at all!
So I went on the pill bc my only symptoms I get are bloat and cramps.... but the cramps.... I can't move and I get so pale, they are the worst pain. The pill has helped. And I'm 33, so I went like 31 years with out any sort of bc
I got off the phil after 12 years because I got married and we are trying to have a baby and I feel all the symptoms you had, just the week before my period starts, I'm hungry like a crazy person (I call it vacuum mode lol), I'm hormonal and snap at my husband a lot, very tired and wick and of course my face is "blooming" just like you showed in the video and I feel like every month it gets worse so I feel you Hope this will balance soon and we will be able to function normally alongside our period xoxo from Canada
Never took pill and not planning anytime soon (I am in my 30s and it started at 16 years old, I know I got it late) .... 2 weeks before the start, I get some symptoms as chest pain and fatigues. Sometimes, spots but not systematically. The first day, stomach pain (based on how my month went, it can be painful so I do take paracetamol). I am also using the app Clue. Most of the time, it is pretty accurate within the range of 3 days. I eat normally and not so much craving and I do not get mood swing.
Heating pads really help ! Hot baths too.. ibprofen and tylenol combined too. My cramping is god awful and ive been off for years now. However, they only last couple days. Apparently after 30 things r a lil random w period.
As a man I never know what to say or if I should even watch the video but honestly I’m glad I did. I honestly wish we learned more about what women & girls go through in school, it sounds terrifying. Every time I hear about this, there is another symptom I’ve not heard about before. I take two naprogesic tablets on the first day of the period and it fixes my fever, nausea , backache and stomach cramps .

Thanks Jen ❤️
Those are basic symptoms of a period. I tried the pill and didn’t like it since I have struggled remembering to take them so I got onto the IUD, which was also horrendous since I bled for 3 months nonstop in the beginning. But I could get cramps so bad the first day that I barely eat anything and then after that, I feel hungry all the time 😅
Thanks for watching ❤️
I’m so glad you’re doing this series! I’ve considered going off the pill, but for all the reasons in this video is why I’m nervous about trying it. Like you mentioned in another video, I’d like to know how I’ll feel without pumping hormones into myself. I’m quite a bit older than you and not far from the next womanly phase, which means I don’t have a real long time before doctors stop prescribing the pill. Ugh. At this stage in life one would think I’d be comfortable with bodily functions, but nope.
Thanks for being here ❤️
I took contraceptives twice for three months each. Both times I gained 25 pounds during those three months, became depressed and lethargic. Afterwards it took me years to lose the weight. For some reason my body has a bad reaction to hormone pills. I would rather be uncomfortable for a few days each month than be depressed all the time.
❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for sharing ❤️
I’m happy your doing this series! I use that same app love it. 💕
So I went on the pill bc my only symptoms I get are bloat and cramps.... but the cramps.... I can't move and I get so pale, they are the worst pain. The pill has helped. And I'm 33, so I went like 31 years with out any sort of bc
Osteopathy helped me so much with pms! the pain just disappears!
Important series, well done.
Thankyou Wendy 😘
I got off the phil after 12 years because I got married and we are trying to have a baby and I feel all the symptoms you had, just the week before my period starts, I'm hungry like a crazy person (I call it vacuum mode lol), I'm hormonal and snap at my husband a lot, very tired and wick and of course my face is "blooming" just like you showed in the video and I feel like every month it gets worse so I feel you
Hope this will balance soon and we will be able to function normally alongside our period

❤️❤️❤️
How is your anxiety and depression this long off the pill???
Thank you 😊 and yes, when you are 51, it gets better, not! Xoxo
