My best friend married a guy that has a ridiculously wealthy and famous family (his dad, in particular), and they live a very lavish life - vacationing in million $ homes on every continent, flying on his private jet. None of them have social media. In fact, when they go places, they don’t tell anyone but the people going with them. They don’t want people knowing where they are or what they’re doing. This is the life of someone truly wealthy.
Agreed. My roommate has a goduncle from an old money family and you'd never think it until you see just how many priceless items they have in storage. Not in their condo, but storage. He literally showed me prints and paintings that I've seen in museums and was shook.
Yes! I learned this from working at American Express and having clients with the coveted “Black Titanium Card” and many were making $500K + per month!! These ppl in person looked NOTHING like what you thought! I mean holes in socks, dirty old tennis (oddly NOW dirty high designer tennis shoes are ALL the rave 😂 wealthy ppl wear these shoes!) you would NEVER guess or even think they were multi millionaires/billionaires!!! I learned then at a young age in my 20’s that ppl who scream 🗣️ MONEY and wear design clothes with the logo all over and post all their business online are ALL 100% non wealthy ppl and if anything are middle class ppl! This is why the most expensive luxury items do NOT have logos all over it because their clientele’s privacy is #1 and NONE of my clients had a personal social media account!
I work at a nightclub in Germany. People do tip here but nothing crazy. All the "influencers" who come in buy one drink for the whole night and do not tip. Regular looking people buy quite a bit (even expensive bottles) and they tip really well. Just an interesting observation.
i think there was a lil study done ages ago, where more expensive cars in a luxury brand have smaller, less visible branding. The cheaper, more affordable cars within a luxury line had much more obvious branding. it’s also apparently a thing where old money people dress normally, but what they’re wearing is actually quite expensive-it’s almost like a way for the rich to signal to each other for example, someone might have a normal looking watch, but only someone else earning a similar amount would be able to notice that there’s an extremely expensive diamond or sapphire set into dial and is indicative of a subtle but extremely expensive brand if you want to blend into a rather luxe crowd, what matters more is that singular, expensive accessory or clothing item, and the ability to recognize other brands as well

I do personal chef work for some very wealthy families on the Gold Coast. 99.999% of them are the coolest people I’ve met. I had a finance bro want me to do some work for him. No problem. I went to his house in a gated community that I knew was a short term furnished rental, the cars in his garage were rented (lots of scratches, worn out seats and a few subtle dents) When him and his girlfriend were done talking at me I told him what it would cost and he was taken aback to say the least. He said “I’m going to pay around $15 an hour! But give you free financial advice and profile you on all my social media!” As if it was a business negotiation. I told him I start at four times that rate and not on any social media as it doesn’t pay bills while pointing at his rented mansion. I got up and left. He was quietly fuming.

My neighbour was a millionaire once. She lived a very flashy and bougie and flaunty lifestyle with expensive jewellery, clothes, cars, etc. Was a common guest in the local high society. Then she got really sick (bowel cancer) and almost didn't survive it. She told me that this time revealed to her what is important in life, and that all her friends were no real friends because they all abandoned her during that time. So she closed her luxury boutique, packed her bags and moved back to her birth place. She's now my neighbour in a small but raised standard apartment. She still wears her Gucci and Prada and Chanel from that time, and she definitely doesn't have to worry about money, but she's left that super rich society and she's content. She tells me that she doesn't miss it at all. Always caring and worrying about her looks and all was quite exhausting. Always playing a role, wearing a mask, etc.
After a certain age most people stop caring about what other people think of us. Plus after we die nobody will even remember us. There have been billions of people on earth and I can hardly name a few that lived 200 years ago.
All of those so called 'friends' probably ran and hid from her, afraid she was going to ask them a favor...like bring her soup or something. Oh yes, some people it takes them longer to figure this out, but I am glad she figured it out.
Similar thing happened to a Turkish influencer named Dilan Polat. She had beauty centers across the country, and was known for showing off her wealth online. she was putting gold particles into her coffee to show how rich she is. eventually, it turned out that they frauded a bunch of people, involved in some money laundering, and apparently those beauty centers were just a scam. now, her husband is in prison and she is in a mental asylum. crazy story.
I used to envy the lavish lifestyles these influencers live until I found out they're either faking it, defrauding innocent people or being paid to go out with rich, creepy older men with sick fantasies.
I am not rich but a lot of my neighbors are millionaires. They are down to earth, drive trucks, never flaunt their wealth and are just good people. They have zero interest in impressing anyone.
Exactly!! I’m not wealthy but know a number of people who are and you’d never be able to tell. The city I live in was known for having very wealthy residents, so a lot of people have moved here to say they live here. My neighborhood has expensive homes, but the newer residents (last 15 years) are mostly paycheck to paycheck trying to keep up the facade of wealth. The people I know who have more money than they know what to do with actually have normal vehicles, shop at average stores or Walmart for clothes, etc. The super wealthy here don’t really flaunt it and that’s how I can tell who pretends to be and who’s legit. Obviously, there are some very wealthy that show it off, but they’re in the minority.
I identify because EVERYONE on my street has purchased brand new high end, luxury or foreign cars and our taxes are the highest in the county. Me and mine aren't doing it. We're not rich by the stretch of the imagination, but we refuse to act like it as well. No.

I've worked on several homes and found that most claim to be rich because of investments - alot of accumulated credit that they claim as wealth. For instance I was unaware that one can purchase property based on stock futures, however, I'm like you if in fact we are thinking the same..to me riches are liquid by that definition I understand where you're coming from.
The saddest part about this …. He supposedly inherited 74 million from his dad, not sure if this number was inflated, so let’s say it was really 20 million…. They could have lived VERY nicely,on 20 million and set up nice trust funds for their daughters, but no, they felt the need to show off, and now? They have LESS a than nothing, now they OWE MONEY!
What crazy is that we all can live WELL and HAPPILY with $5mil. Yet they created their own problems and ended up being broke with no properties. This is what i called greed and stupidity.

Remember, Rich people are living away from Social Media or away from any kind of attention for their own security and safety. They love their privacy. Yes some rich people are online too. But because their Businesses push them to be online ( like Elon Musk and so on ) But most of them are on social media only for business purposes. So most of the time we are richer than all those influencers because being in debt is being poorer than anyone having 100 USD on his name in his bank account.
Most successful people leverage debt well. If you owe $500k at 5% interest but you are getting 10-15% on return elsewhere, your money is better off spent earning than paying off debt. But you should still reduce that debt faster as you don't want to gamble too much and you never know which way the winds will blow.

lol I remember sitting on the tram when I was young and a gypsy teenager went to sit behind a hot chick. He took out his Axe body spray and started spraying himself thinking that the chick would fall in love with him xD He definitely saw it in a commercial and believed that that's who it works.
A book from the 90s called The Millionaire Next Door explained that typical millionaires lived in modest suburban homes, sent their kids to public schools and above all lived well below their means. Someone in the book called flashy but broke people "all hat, no cattle."
This! I recently read an aricle in our local newspaper that we have 32 people in our small city who make more than 1 million per year after taxes. I have never seen a Lambo, Ferrari or Bentley around town. The only designer bags are the fake Gucci and LV 16yo girls take to school (the number goes up every year when people comeback from their vacations to Turkey😉). There are no over the top mansions in town. You couldn't pick out the true millionaires on the street, so the book definitely has that right.
People smart enough to make big money are smart enough not to flash their wealth (extortion or kidnapping risks) or spend on overpriced useless things.

I can’t really grasp why people strive for such an overflow of money. Having a nice home that is not oversized, being able to travel with your family, taste good food, dress yourself well, have access to good education is all understandable, but why do these people need to buy bilion dollar mansions? It’s like living on a railway station. Why do you need to stay in some 4k a night hotel in Paris? It sounds so official and not relaxing at all. How’s having a Ferrari more comfortable than a normal family car? How’s having 100 designer bags and shoes even manageable? How’s throwing massive parties not just tiring? It all sounds so exhausting, and so far from a comfortable life. Comfort means you actually can manage your surroundings and have mental space, not accumulate stuff that you need to think of all the time. Excessive wealth is so toxic.
One of my best friends is an oil heiress from old French money. Weird overlay but it makes it a very powerful and top 1% mix. And the reason we're friends is she's so normal. She drives a VW, has many houses, but nothing lavish, she just likes to have one in each city she loves etc. I realized how rich she was when I was invited to the family's Chateau in France for a summer vacation with my younger son. With the chateau's bell that rings for meals and you have to come dressed accordingly, and the staff will serve everyone all at once, six services, accompanied with the family's wines. With this friend I've traveled all around. She never had staff, besides someone to clean. But the most beautiful homes in the most beautiful places that she renovated herself, and furnished by choosing every piece of art and furniture. I've actually had to step back, because i was starting to feel like this was also my life. And it's not. It's really easy to get sucked in and end up taking to of femme de compagnie. Aka personal assistant.

I know that's what she was looking for in me. But my kids needed me more and I think it was selfish of her to ask so much of me when my youngest was only 12 at that time and I had a granddaughter that was just born. And she got mad when I found love. It would basically mean staying single for life. It's a choice 😂

So you need to dedicate your life to them. But they have to stay the one on top. The fact that I was younger and prettier and I found the man of my dreams, made things really bitter, even tho she would swear up and down she was sooooo happy for us. For me. That I was finding someone to care for me.(I could do it fine thank you) Poor me.(Why poor me, I didn't need pity, I dated Who I wanted) Who was never married. (I never wanted to,she was divorced twice) and all sorts of back handed happiness you know. That's when i chose to exit. I asked her for some vacation at the charity we had started and never really had time off Two months after, she closed it. And used it only for private grants. Lol I've never told anyone that stuff. I had a "grandma" I adopted for over a decade - an older lady I would visit and our dogs would play together while we went out for our weekly lunch. She passed away 2 years ago (she was 95). Not that I want a full-time responsibility for anyone, but I look forward to finding a new "grandma" (or mom, I'm getting too old for my grandmas to be alive, maybe. haha) to spend time with at some point. My "grandma" was happy I found a good guy. She got to meet him before she died. But she also had grown children to stop by or to be there in emergencies, so she wasn't counting on me for anything. One of them, I'm told, does own a chateau in the south of France as a second home, but I haven't been there. lol
To be fair, it's believed not even the Kardashians (specially Kylie) can truly afford their level of flaunting. They're not broke, but that level they got people used to is completely unsustainable.

My ex had rich parents. They shopped at Kohls for clothes with rewards points. The step dad refused Christmas presents and had the kids donate to charity instead. Also, I don’t remember the name of the show, but it’s about these rich people and their lives, and they all wear designer clothing, but you would never know because it never shows the brand or like say Burberry plaid. And apparently there was some episode I heard about where someone showed up at an event with a plaid Burberry purse and the person called them out for being fake because most people who wear Burberry don’t wear the plaid. I’m guilty, I love the way that plaid looks but it is so unaffordable it’s ridiculous. My mom and I went to the store one time to look at clothes and my mom said she thought it would be cool to wear an outfit that was all plaid on the mannequin on a trip and I said that’s an absolutely horrible idea. You would be robbed instantly wearing a full Burberry plaid outfit.
@@Saranewberry0599 I honestly do not believe in luxury items above a price range. Esp now when brands have downgraded their quality. I will pay high for good material and skill but that is only till a limit. In our country people routinely wear real gold jewellery and we buy some new item every 2-3 years or so. But these days people are getting mogged in broad daylight hence wearing real gold has become a life threatening hazard here. Looking too expensive and not having access to super safe places is not a good combination.
Interesting you mention shopping at Kohls with rewards points because that is totally my ex’s parents as well! They are well off, own a house in a really expensive neighborhood (which they had built back in the early 90’s but still), they have a lake house and a boat, go on pricey vacations from time to time, but they shop at Kohls and Costco and drive their cars for a decade or longer before trading them in. The wealthier people I know - actual net worth millionaires, though I don’t know anyone who is ultra-wealthy, literally shop at Kohls with Kohls cash!

Yeah I had one 11 year old girl indirectly attack me because a 10 year old girl commented on this 21 year old nail techs video saying how she looks up to her and is starting to be a nail tech. I as a 29 year old adult stepped in and pumped the brakes hard on the 10 year old that she's still young and to explore other hobbies too and that it's social media it's not real and the next day maybe the influencer or the 10 year old possibly sent an 11 year to indirectly attack me by saying how she also wants to be a nail tech by watching that girls video I gave her the same message. It's not real you're still a child slow down there's no rush. Where's your actual parents to do their job and tell you it's not real and how these industries actually work!

Well, if you are wealthy and have this kind of lifestyle it is quite easy to fall into millions of debt when things don’t work out so well anymore. It is one thing to accumulate wealth. It is another to keep it for years and even harder, for generations.
Agreed! It's not about how much you make, it's about how much you spend. If you earn $1 million, but spend $1.5M, you are still in debt. My great grandfather was wealthy in the 1940s and 50s (they even had a plane), and when he passed away his son squandered the fortune that he had built from scratch because of the lavish lifestyle he was trying to have; and this all happened in a matter of years, it was very quick! So yes, if you spend like a fool, it doesn't matter how much money you have, you will loose it all.

Few days ago there was a scandal with italian influencer Eleonora Rocchini who owns 2 brands and shows all dreamy locations, she asked her followers to donate 6k€ for a surgery of her dog (life or dead situation) and collected the money in a day! I grew up in a wealthy family so I know the score. The people doing that stuff like these people are using other people’ money through shady practices bc it is not sustainable. The only way you can afford to live like that is if you are a billionaire and are actively making hundreds of millions of dollars a year. If you own a mega mansion you are spending well over a million dollars a year in maintenance & taxes. The salaries for staff alone is at least $500k a year. If you own a yacht you are spending $100k a year in gasoline alone & $250k a year in salaries for yacht staff alone. Those mega mansions have to be full of very expensive furniture. Fake people have most rooms sealed off in those homes. I’ve seen it all. People used to openly mock my dad for being a tightwad for refusing to live like this. Edit: whenever you find yourself in a very wealthy neighborhood I guarantee you at least half those houses are half empty. When you visit those houses the people bend over backwards to steer you away from their empty rooms or they’ll stage it to look like they’re rehabbing it.

I’m not wealthy, but I’m comfortable. My family and I have no mortgage. We bought a foreclosure and fixed it up. The one thing we always do is pay off the credit cards every month. Don’t burn your money away by paying interest and fees. If you’re struggling, ask yourself if you need it or want it. It’s never too early to start saving.

I've learned to pretty much view most things on social media with skepticism. It's just a filtered and idealized version of who we want to be. Everyone omits the failures, unpleasant side, mundane and flaws.

He wouldn’t consider getting a job, work was beneath him and he spent a lot of time watching their cringe videos and playing video games. We lived together for a few months before I moved on. I feel the same about couples that flex so much online about their relationships. Like why you flaunting so hard? I have been married for 6 years and me and my husband dated 4 years before that and we rarely post but l know my husband and l are head over heels for each other. I also have noticed other couples that are super happy irl rarely post online as well, except for the birthday or anniversary post. I just don’t feel the need l guess to flaunt it when there is so many out there struggling in marriages, singleness or loss. It’s interesting when l find a struggling couple irl and when l look at their insta or facebook and it seems like they couldn’t be happier. I just think everyone likes to make their life seem more luxurious than they actually are, which is sad. If you aren’t able to find happiness (even a small bit ) in the hard times then you will always be searching for happiness in the times when you’re “on top of the world”.

I live on Long Island and know a few wealthy folks who don’t have social media, you wouldn’t even realize their wealthy walking down the street, they wear simple clothing no jewelry no flashy cars and are really down to earth .Don’t get fooled by the glitter on social media. All that glitters is not gold.
It’s honestly nutty to me to see how easily people fall for the “I’m rich” getup. Even my blue collar parents told me I could easily fake it instead of begging for the actual name brands. I saw this in action last summer. Just to paint a picture, I’m a 28 year old woman. The car I had to my name was a 2015 Mazda 3 skyactiv…typical Econ car. When I had issues with it, I went on Turo to rent a car and it only costed $250 for four days. This was a BRAND NEW custom satin white-gold Volvo S90 turbo. I felt like a queen in it, so I decided to get all glammed up and have a mall day at the fancy mall. I wore the most intricate dress I had, flat ironed my hair, did full glam makeup with lashes, put on some heels and grabbed my most prestigious looking coffee thermos. I swear to you up and down, people hated the fact that I existed. I noticed a lot of it on the road. Normally I could drive my Mazda and be left alone…but in this car, young women in other cars would brake check me for no reason, try to swerve at me, would throw drinks at the car. They’d flip me off for no reason….then I was standing outside the car having a smoke and I hear, “I wonder how much (body part) she sucked for that.” It occurred to me later that these people automatically placed me on a pedestal and felt the need to attack me because I LOOKED like a spoiled rich girl. It was just totally looney.
Finally someone talking about this. There are so many fake people and fake wealthy people here, actually they can’t pay 20 bucks for groceries. I have seen guys getting out of great cars and looking like this studs but cannot pay 20 bucks for their own groceries. It is all a facade, huge credit card debts. Their lifestyle used to make me question myself like am I a loser. Who cannot earn money like this and spend like this
Take a good look at all the Dodge chargers and hellcats getting repossessed. A lot of them have minor repairable damage on them but the owners are too broke to fix them so they stop paying on them. Their car is now an eyesore rather than a status symbol and most of them are too dumb to understand that they will probably still owe money the car.
So I heard directly from a state worker that the rich people who own their business will claim they make no income and then get food stamps they pretend like they are unemployed it’s screwed how they are taking even more from the poor
@@tagzntoons Rideshare, hair dressers, and lots of others who hold a business license don't own physical businesses. They aren't rolling in the money. These are mostly people trying to change their circumstances.
This really does make you realize you are doing just fine in life. In no reality would I want to live with that debt and crippling fear of foreclosures. Let alone disappointing my children.
Me too, and I believe everyone who does the right things and plays their cards right will attract as good, if not better experiences for themselves in terms of belongings they can gain. Get cars outright if possible (last resort for monthly payments make sure they’re affordable), avoid impulse spending, and with vacations I don’t really think anyone needs to have more than 3 vacations a year and even that is pushing it. One vacation a year would be plenty enough for me.
I just want enough money to be able to pay our bills and not think about it. Like auto pay everything and then be able to afford to buy groceries. Also, not have to check how much I can afford. I'd like a smaller, comfy home with my husband, our son, our dog, and that's it. We don't need lavish trips or expensive clothes. Just nice memories together and no money stress. It's not that much to ask for. Why do people always want so much or to show off? Are you that sad in your life you need this much attention and validation from others? The only people's opinions I care about are in this house with me and I know they love me.
a way to truly empower yourself & feel genuinely fulfilled is to create your own definition of "success". For me its to simply have my own home, a nice yard to be able to grow a garden, ideally with some nice views of the sunrise or sunset. To have my own little family. To be debt free & have a fair amount in savings for any emergency that could come up in life. To make enough to pay my necessary bills. To have a job that can help me pursue my passions on the side, that I may eventually profit from but if not, I still get to enjoy for my own sake. Some of these things I've accomplished & others I'm still working on, while accepting that my plans may change depending on lifes circumstances. I'm at least proud of myself for where I'm at now vs. a few years ago. I'm fulfilled & happy with my simple life 💗I hope you all can create your own definition of success & only compare yourself to who you were in the past and not random people on the internet or celebrities!
I've heard people say "define your success" - but this is the 1st time that it actually sinks in! I think that you've written this so well and it really is true. As they say, comparison is the death of joy. I 've never thought of "empowering" yourself in that way. I love that!

The most important part being that each individual defines for themself what’s a priority. Not letting the influence of greedy people tell us what’s supposed to be prioritized. I watch an influencer who talks about shares and has been investing for over 30 years in real estate and shares. I enjoy watching him. He also states that he is not a financial advisor but had worked in the banking industry for 25 years and learnt a lot from extremely wealthy clients and that they were not showy. He also stated that a survey was done on what cars most millionaires drive. The top three are, Toyota, Honda and Ford.
I definitely pulled back from posting also. It’s all smoke and mirrors. Plus it serves as a highlight reel . Everyone can’t be doing good all the time. It’s not realistic. You feel over stimulated and it’s too much. I don’t have the time. It’s ok to live life and not have a highlight reel.

I see stuff like that a lot when traveling. So cheesy! Posing for instagram photos and leaving right away. It's sad to me that people my age (40s) and even older are still doing that stuff, it is what I expect from a 20 yr old wannabe influencer.

There are people around us who own jets, clubs, etc… and are very flashy. 😂 when I was a flight attendant, I personally knew a pilot who owns several restaurants in New York City and he is very flashy. That idea comes from the most famous billionaires being conservative. Musk, Gates, Buffet, Bezos, and Zuckerberg aren’t posting their personal wealth online trying to get attention from it.
I can confidently say the only flex I respond to and wish I had is when quilting influencers (yes they’re a thing and they’re wonderful) have beautiful sewing studios. I’ve taken over my dining room and I don’t have a permanent space to create. It’s the only luxury I want in this life

I found keeping up with everything on social media, or then posting anything on it, now became a very stressful lifestyle. I prefer solitude now. Not to mention recently there's a lot of deepfake criminal cases when people stole your 'face' and put it on sketchy adult movies or corn. Everything is possible now with A.I 😭 I rather delete all my photos from my socmeds, keep it private, never shares photos, videos, or anything again on public.
I live in a very wealthy area. The average price of a home is about $850,000. No one flaunts their wealth here. It is considered to be in extremely poor taste. Almost everyone shleps around in T-shirts and jeans. I love to dress cute, but I usually wear a T-shirt and sweatpants in order to fit in. No one blinks twice. All 'classes' mingle. No one cares who you are, and by that I mean socioeconomic demographic. I am poor and have plenty of wealthy friends. They are genuine, excellent, and down to earth people. Their kids work in landscaping or fast food just like everyone else. Name dropping or trying to flex is not acceptable. No one is remotely impressed.
Where I live 850k isn't that impressive. There's a home not far from me selling for 8 million. That said, it's simply one of the most overpriced places to live. My house is like 750k (it's a VERY small house) and I'm definitely not rich... "rich" can definitely be relative.

I have almost no stress whatsoever in my life and effectively unlimited free time to read, play music, make art. I cook almost all my own meals. In my 20s I lived in Los Angeles. I got SO tired of the arrogant "wealthy" young men. You're not broken you don't find them attractive. There were times when one of them would walk up to me, smirk, and try to hit on me. The first and only word out of my mouth was "No."
I read their NYC apartment was a rental, $45k/ month. All furniture rented as well, and the rental company is suing them for non-payment. The Hamptons house was leveraged to the hilt. All an illusion.

I agree. A lot of MLM people are such liars too. I know a lady who lived in a beautiful historic home and was a Rodan and Fields rep, pretty high up. She was encouraged to buy a cheesy new McMansion in another town and bragged about moving up in the world when really the new house was a lot cheaper and a huge step down for her. Played it out on social media like the biggest flex ever. She's now a shady AF insurance rep. People like that impress a lot of people but I like to look beneath the surface at reality.
Your comment made me think ... all these social media platforms with their fact checking of C19, vaccines, politics, etc. They should fact check all the finance influencers. Make them submit financial statements, tax documents, etc. proving their worth. Audit them somehow. Make them pay for it upfront if they want a channel teaching others how to be rich. Make them prove they got rich doing it, not by teaching it or selling some membership.
It's not about what it looks like, it's about net worth. You can have a huge house, flashy cars, big SUV's and be so in debt your net worth is zero or negative. Some of the most wealthy people are your next door neighbors with paid off houses, no debt, healthy retirement accounts and bank accounts that only the bank tellers know about....
Wealthiest guy i ever met - talking multi-millions of dollars, was totally low key. No fancy anything - mostly wore khakis & dad type shirts. He told me that you can always spot new money because they are like walking ads for designer junk.
I appreciate you talking about this because in the past, I have felt "behind" seeing all of these young adults living luxury lifestyles! I am 32 and am focused on investing for my future, but still find it wild to see people in their 20's living in gigantic homes, fully furnished 😂 I say that because I have the least amount of furniture lmao! and I'm learning that not all of this is true... and even down to, that house might not even be theirs (still wrapping my head around that one). BUT - the plus side is that I tend to limit myself in the things I can experience and these channels help me to open my world up a little bit and dream a little bigger. responsibly and within my means, of course!!
Most of them in those lavish homes likely don't own them. Even if they have a mortgage. Just because you can afford 30 grand a month today, doesn't mean you will pay it off when the money dries up from weird guy's online. Also, never feel bad that you weren't a homeowner in your 20s. Historically, most people's first home purchase was in their 30s or something crazy and right now, homes are way overvalued.

Re: The Millers- Real Estate moguls in NYC have, for the last 40 years or so, have had all the trappings of wealth without the paper to back it, and it is not unusual for them to simply not pay workers nor investors. i was in mortgage banking for over 25yrs in NYUSA., and i can assure you, the WORST delinquent payors were the wealthiest., for sure. and my best borrowers were 1st time homebuyers WHO slaved to live the dream and work to keep it., a small 2/3 BR home, nothing fancy. just grateful folks, plain & simple.

I was once in a class called Finance for Project Managers. We learned about assets, depreciating assets and how to calculate net worth and other finance items. As we were discussing loans and depreciating assets, a small discussion arose about people who may live in a big house or have a fancy car, and to recognize that some of them might be, to quote that ad, "in debt up to their eyeballs." I'm sorry that that ad is only on youtube these days because everyone needs to be reminded that everything is not all as it seems.
Someone I know in banking told me that 90% of what you see is fake when it comes to rich lifestyles. The vast majority of people are leveraged to the hills in debt faking it.
I'm in my late 40's. I have struggled with an ED, body image and self-esteem. In my 30's I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder, it put me on bed rest for years. I purposely avoided influencer social media because I know it would have a negative impact on me. I gave up FB too - seeing my friends perfect pics was having a negative impact on me. I know my friends pics aren't fake, like flex influencers, but it's still showing your best looks. I recently started dabbling is social media. @AmoraTheEnchantress I’m so sorry for all you’ve been through. I’m 51 and have struggled with an ED since 14. I’m currently thankfully in remission from it, but 2-3 years ago, it was very active. I had a mini stroke and seizures all related to the ED. There is a specific influencer (E.C.) I have to avoid. When I watch them, it triggers those thoughts that start the ED going out of remission. I have to be careful what I do watch for that reason. You know how miserable an ED is. I’m so sorry you know, too. I had a therapist and psychiatrist and family doctor all tell me to realize that social media isn’t reality. I left fb for 1.5 years one time, and it was such a relief. I didn’t realize it affected me until I left. I’m in politics, so I had to come back to fb. I’m so sorry about your autoimmune disorder as well. Life can be hard with chronic illness. I hope you have a good support network. Hugs.

I come from a middle class background, but I grew up in a very affluent neighbourhood and went to a school with the children of millionaires. It is very rare to see these people flex their wealth like this, in particular on social media.

It’s the old saying don’t go broke trying to look rich! I’d rather have my 2 bedroom house, basic car and I have 0 credit (no loans, overdrafts or credit cards)in my name apart from my phone and bills paid and a full fridge, and able to use my gas and electric when I need too, than worry when a letter is posted or a knock on the door that it’s a bailiff etc. Everything I buy I own outright, and if I can’t pay outright then I wait till I can. I’m 40 now but when I was 18 I was silly with loans/credit cards overdrafts etc to keep up with the joneses, but was I actually happy - No! I truly believe we should be taught financial literacy in school.

My best friend married a guy that has a ridiculously wealthy and famous family (his dad, in particular), and they live a very lavish life - vacationing in million $ homes on every continent, flying on his private jet. None of them have social media. In fact, when they go places, they don’t tell anyone but the people going with them. They don’t want people knowing where they are or what they’re doing. This is the life of someone truly wealthy.

i think there was a lil study done ages ago, where more expensive cars in a luxury brand have smaller, less visible branding. The cheaper, more affordable cars within a luxury line had much more obvious branding.
it’s also apparently a thing where old money people dress normally, but what they’re wearing is actually quite expensive-it’s almost like a way for the rich to signal to each other
for example, someone might have a normal looking watch, but only someone else earning a similar amount would be able to notice that there’s an extremely expensive diamond or sapphire set into dial and is indicative of a subtle but extremely expensive brand
if you want to blend into a rather luxe crowd, what matters more is that singular, expensive accessory or clothing item, and the ability to recognize other brands as well

My neighbour was a millionaire once. She lived a very flashy and bougie and flaunty lifestyle with expensive jewellery, clothes, cars, etc. Was a common guest in the local high society. Then she got really sick (bowel cancer) and almost didn't survive it. She told me that this time revealed to her what is important in life, and that all her friends were no real friends because they all abandoned her during that time. So she closed her luxury boutique, packed her bags and moved back to her birth place. She's now my neighbour in a small but raised standard apartment. She still wears her Gucci and Prada and Chanel from that time, and she definitely doesn't have to worry about money, but she's left that super rich society and she's content. She tells me that she doesn't miss it at all. Always caring and worrying about her looks and all was quite exhausting. Always playing a role, wearing a mask, etc.
After a certain age most people stop caring about what other people think of us. Plus after we die nobody will even remember us. There have been billions of people on earth and I can hardly name a few that lived 200 years ago.
All of those so called 'friends' probably ran and hid from her, afraid she was going to ask them a favor...like bring her soup or something. Oh yes, some people it takes them longer to figure this out, but I am glad she figured it out.

She had beauty centers across the country, and was known for showing off her wealth online. she was putting gold particles into her coffee to show how rich she is. eventually, it turned out that they frauded a bunch of people, involved in some money laundering, and apparently those beauty centers were just a scam. now, her husband is in prison and she is in a mental asylum. crazy story.

Exactly!! I’m not wealthy but know a number of people who are and you’d never be able to tell. The city I live in was known for having very wealthy residents, so a lot of people have moved here to say they live here. My neighborhood has expensive homes, but the newer residents (last 15 years) are mostly paycheck to paycheck trying to keep up the facade of wealth. The people I know who have more money than they know what to do with actually have normal vehicles, shop at average stores or Walmart for clothes, etc. The super wealthy here don’t really flaunt it and that’s how I can tell who pretends to be and who’s legit. Obviously, there are some very wealthy that show it off, but they’re in the minority.

I've worked on several homes and found that most claim to be rich because of investments - alot of accumulated credit that they claim as wealth. For instance I was unaware that one can purchase property based on stock futures, however, I'm like you if in fact we are thinking the same..to me riches are liquid by that definition I understand where you're coming from.
The saddest part about this …. He supposedly inherited 74 million from his dad, not sure if this number was inflated, so let’s say it was really 20 million…. They could have lived VERY nicely,on 20 million and set up nice trust funds for their daughters, but no, they felt the need to show off, and now? They have LESS a than nothing, now they OWE MONEY!

Remember, Rich people are living away from Social Media or away from any kind of attention for their own security and safety. They love their privacy. Yes some rich people are online too. But because their Businesses push them to be online ( like Elon Musk and so on ) But most of them are on social media only for business purposes. So most of the time we are richer than all those influencers because being in debt is being poorer than anyone having 100 USD on his name in his bank account.
Most successful people leverage debt well. If you owe $500k at 5% interest but you are getting 10-15% on return elsewhere, your money is better off spent earning than paying off debt. But you should still reduce that debt faster as you don't want to gamble too much and you never know which way the winds will blow.

This! I recently read an aricle in our local newspaper that we have 32 people in our small city who make more than 1 million per year after taxes. I have never seen a Lambo, Ferrari or Bentley around town. The only designer bags are the fake Gucci and LV 16yo girls take to school (the number goes up every year when people comeback from their vacations to Turkey😉). There are no over the top mansions in town. You couldn't pick out the true millionaires on the street, so the book definitely has that right.
People smart enough to make big money are smart enough not to flash their wealth (extortion or kidnapping risks) or spend on overpriced useless things.

I can’t really grasp why people strive for such an overflow of money. Having a nice home that is not oversized, being able to travel with your family, taste good food, dress yourself well, have access to good education is all understandable, but why do these people need to buy bilion dollar mansions? It’s like living on a railway station. Why do you need to stay in some 4k a night hotel in Paris? It sounds so official and not relaxing at all. How’s having a Ferrari more comfortable than a normal family car? How’s having 100 designer bags and shoes even manageable? How’s throwing massive parties not just tiring? It all sounds so exhausting, and so far from a comfortable life. Comfort means you actually can manage your surroundings and have mental space, not accumulate stuff that you need to think of all the time. Excessive wealth is so toxic.

People who have it tell you they don’t and people that don’t tell you they do.
One of my best friends is an oil heiress from old French money. Weird overlay but it makes it a very powerful and top 1% mix. And the reason we're friends is she's so normal. She drives a VW, has many houses, but nothing lavish, she just likes to have one in each city she loves etc. I realized how rich she was when I was invited to the family's Chateau in France for a summer vacation with my younger son. With the chateau's bell that rings for meals and you have to come dressed accordingly, and the staff will serve everyone all at once, six services, accompanied with the family's wines.
With this friend I've traveled all around. She never had staff, besides someone to clean. But the most beautiful homes in the most beautiful places that she renovated herself, and furnished by choosing every piece of art and furniture. I've actually had to step back, because i was starting to feel like this was also my life. And it's not. It's really easy to get sucked in and end up taking to of femme de compagnie. Aka personal assistant.

I know that's what she was looking for in me. But my kids needed me more and I think it was selfish of her to ask so much of me when my youngest was only 12 at that time and I had a granddaughter that was just born. And she got mad when I found love. It would basically mean staying single for life. It's a choice 😂

I had a "grandma" I adopted for over a decade - an older lady I would visit and our dogs would play together while we went out for our weekly lunch. She passed away 2 years ago (she was 95). Not that I want a full-time responsibility for anyone, but I look forward to finding a new "grandma" (or mom, I'm getting too old for my grandmas to be alive, maybe. haha) to spend time with at some point. My "grandma" was happy I found a good guy. She got to meet him before she died. But she also had grown children to stop by or to be there in emergencies, so she wasn't counting on me for anything. Also, I don’t remember the name of the show, but it’s about these rich people and their lives, and they all wear designer clothing, but you would never know because it never shows the brand or like say Burberry plaid. And apparently there was some episode I heard about where someone showed up at an event with a plaid Burberry purse and the person called them out for being fake because most people who wear Burberry don’t wear the plaid. I’m guilty, I love the way that plaid looks but it is so unaffordable it’s ridiculous. My mom and I went to the store one time to look at clothes and my mom said she thought it would be cool to wear an outfit that was all plaid on the mannequin on a trip and I said that’s an absolutely horrible idea. You would be robbed instantly wearing a full Burberry plaid outfit.

I will pay high for good material and skill but that is only till a limit. In our country people routinely wear real gold jewellery and we buy some new item every 2-3 years or so. But these days people are getting mogged in broad daylight hence wearing real gold has become a life threatening hazard here.

They are well off, own a house in a really expensive neighborhood (which they had built back in the early 90’s but still), they have a lake house and a boat, go on pricey vacations from time to time, but they shop at Kohls and Costco and drive their cars for a decade or longer before trading them in.

Yeah I had one 11 year old girl indirectly attack me because a 10 year old girl commented on this 21 year old nail techs video saying how she looks up to her and is starting to be a nail tech. I as a 29 year old adult stepped in and pumped the brakes hard on the 10 year old that she's still young and to explore other hobbies too and that it's social media it's not real and the next day maybe the influencer or the 10 year old possibly sent an 11 year to indirectly attack me by saying how she also wants to be a nail tech by watching that girls video I gave her the same message. It's not real you're still a child slow down there's no rush. Where's your actual parents to do their job and tell you it's not real and how these industries actually work!

Agreed! It's not about how much you make, it's about how much you spend. If you earn $1 million, but spend $1.5M, you are still in debt. My great grandfather was wealthy in the 1940s and 50s (they even had a plane), and when he passed away his son squandered the fortune that he had built from scratch because of the lavish lifestyle he was trying to have; and this all happened in a matter of years, it was very quick! So yes, if you spend like a fool, it doesn't matter how much money you have, you will loose it all.

I grew up in a wealthy family so I know the score. The people doing that stuff like these people are using other people’ money through shady practices bc it is not sustainable. The only way you can afford to live like that is if you are a billionaire and are actively making hundreds of millions of dollars a year. If you own a mega mansion you are spending well over a million dollars a year in maintenance & taxes. The salaries for staff alone is at least $500k a year. If you own a yacht you are spending $100k a year in gasoline alone & $250k a year in salaries for yacht staff alone. Those mega mansions have to be full of very expensive furniture. Fake people have most rooms sealed off in those homes. I’ve seen it all. People used to openly mock my dad for being a tightwad for refusing to live like this.
Edit: whenever you find yourself in a very wealthy neighborhood I guarantee you at least half those houses are half empty. When you visit those houses the people bend over backwards to steer you away from their empty rooms or they’ll stage it to look like they’re rehabbing it.

I’m not wealthy, but I’m comfortable. My family and I have no mortgage. We bought a foreclosure and fixed it up. The one thing we always do is pay off the credit cards every month. Don’t burn your money away by paying interest and fees. If you’re struggling, ask yourself if you need it or want it. It’s never too early to start saving.
I have never forgot when my parents said, "If you cant buy something twice (that's not a necessary need) you cant afford it" , own your furniture, appliances and if possibly your shelter/cars ,if not the possibility that they can be taken away will continue to exist".

I feel the same about couples that flex so much online about their relationships. Like why you flaunting so hard? I have been married for 6 years and me and my husband dated 4 years before that and we rarely post but l know my husband and l are head over heels for each other. I also have noticed other couples that are super happy irl rarely post online as well, except for the birthday or anniversary post. I just don’t feel the need l guess to flaunt it when there is so many out there struggling in marriages, singleness or loss. It’s interesting when l find a struggling couple irl and when l look at their insta or facebook and it seems like they couldn’t be happier. I just think everyone likes to make their life seem more luxurious than they actually are, which is sad. If you aren’t able to find happiness (even a small bit ) in the hard times then you will always be searching for happiness in the times when you’re “on top of the world”.

I live on Long Island and know a few wealthy folks who don’t have social media, you wouldn’t even realize their wealthy walking down the street, they wear simple clothing no jewelry no flashy cars and are really down to earth .Don’t get fooled by the glitter on social media. All that glitters is not gold.
It’s honestly nutty to me to see how easily people fall for the “I’m rich” getup. Even my blue collar parents told me I could easily fake it instead of begging for the actual name brands.
I saw this in action last summer. Just to paint a picture, I’m a 28 year old woman. The car I had to my name was a 2015 Mazda 3 skyactiv…typical Econ car. When I had issues with it, I went on Turo to rent a car and it only costed $250 for four days.
This was a BRAND NEW custom satin white-gold Volvo S90 turbo. I felt like a queen in it, so I decided to get all glammed up and have a mall day at the fancy mall. I wore the most intricate dress I had, flat ironed my hair, did full glam makeup with lashes, put on some heels and grabbed my most prestigious looking coffee thermos. I swear to you up and down, people hated the fact that I existed. I noticed a lot of it on the road. Normally I could drive my Mazda and be left alone…but in this car, young women in other cars would brake check me for no reason, try to swerve at me, would throw drinks at the car. They’d flip me off for no reason….then I was standing outside the car having a smoke and I hear, “I wonder how much (body part) she sucked for that.”
It occurred to me later that these people automatically placed me on a pedestal and felt the need to attack me because I LOOKED like a spoiled rich girl. It was just totally looney.

Take a good look at all the Dodge chargers and hellcats getting repossessed. A lot of them have minor repairable damage on them but the owners are too broke to fix them so they stop paying on them. Their car is now an eyesore rather than a status symbol and most of them are too dumb to understand that they will probably still owe money the car.
So I heard directly from a state worker that the rich people who own their business will claim they make no income and then get food stamps they pretend like they are unemployed it’s screwed how they are taking even more from the poor
@@tagzntoons Rideshare, hair dressers, and lots of others who hold a business license don't own physical businesses. They aren't rolling in the money. These are mostly people trying to change their circumstances.
This really does make you realize you are doing just fine in life. In no reality would I want to live with that debt and crippling fear of foreclosures. Let alone disappointing my children.
Me too, and I believe everyone who does the right things and plays their cards right will attract as good, if not better experiences for themselves in terms of belongings they can gain. Get cars outright if possible (last resort for monthly payments make sure they’re affordable), avoid impulse spending, and with vacations I don’t really think anyone needs to have more than 3 vacations a year and even that is pushing it. One vacation a year would be plenty enough for me.
I just want enough money to be able to pay our bills and not think about it. Like auto pay everything and then be able to afford to buy groceries. Also, not have to check how much I can afford. I'd like a smaller, comfy home with my husband, our son, our dog, and that's it. We don't need lavish trips or expensive clothes. Just nice memories together and no money stress. It's not that much to ask for. Why do people always want so much or to show off? Are you that sad in your life you need this much attention and validation from others? The only people's opinions I care about are in this house with me and I know they love me.
a way to truly empower yourself & feel genuinely fulfilled is to create your own definition of "success". For me its to simply have my own home, a nice yard to be able to grow a garden, ideally with some nice views of the sunrise or sunset. To have my own little family. To be debt free & have a fair amount in savings for any emergency that could come up in life. To make enough to pay my necessary bills. To have a job that can help me pursue my passions on the side, that I may eventually profit from but if not, I still get to enjoy for my own sake. Some of these things I've accomplished & others I'm still working on, while accepting that my plans may change depending on lifes circumstances. I'm at least proud of myself for where I'm at now vs. a few years ago. I'm fulfilled & happy with my simple life 💗I hope you all can create your own definition of success & only compare yourself to who you were in the past and not random people on the internet or celebrities!

I watch an influencer who talks about shares and has been investing for over 30 years in real estate and shares. I enjoy watching him. He also states that he is not a financial advisor but had worked in the banking industry for 25 years and learnt a lot from extremely wealthy clients and that they were not showy. He also stated that a survey was done on what cars most millionaires drive. The top three are, Toyota, Honda and Ford.

I can confidently say the only flex I respond to and wish I had is when quilting influencers (yes they’re a thing and they’re wonderful) have beautiful sewing studios. I’ve taken over my dining room and I don’t have a permanent space to create.

It's insta worthy to some of us, I admire that a lot. There's people who aspire for what you have because we recognize the value in that lifestyle.
I found keeping up with everything on social media, or then posting anything on it, now became a very stressful lifestyle. I prefer solitude now. Not to mention recently there's a lot of deepfake criminal cases when people stole your 'face' and put it on sketchy adult movies or corn. Everything is possible now with A.I 😭 I rather delete all my photos from my socmeds, keep it private, never shares photos, videos, or anything again on public.
I live in a very wealthy area. The average price of a home is about $850,000. No one flaunts their wealth here. It is considered to be in extremely poor taste. Almost everyone shleps around in T-shirts and jeans. I love to dress cute, but I usually wear a T-shirt and sweatpants in order to fit in. No one blinks twice. All 'classes' mingle. No one cares who you are, and by that I mean socioeconomic demographic. I am poor and have plenty of wealthy friends. They are genuine, excellent, and down to earth people. Their kids work in landscaping or fast food just like everyone else. Name dropping or trying to flex is not acceptable. No one is remotely impressed.

Where I live 850k isn't that impressive. There's a home not far from me selling for 8 million. That said, it's simply one of the most overpriced places to live. My house is like 750k (it's a VERY small house) and I'm definitely not rich... "rich" can definitely be relative.

I'm not sure how I you showed up in my feed, but all of this is so sad. I own a small home with no mortgage and a 96 Toyota Camry with no car payment. My monthly budget is around $500. I have almost no stress whatsoever in my life and effectively unlimited free time to read, play music, make art. I cook almost all my own meals. I think I was born to live this simple, beautiful life. I will pray for this misguided couple and their babies.

In my 20s I lived in Los Angeles. I got SO tired of the arrogant "wealthy" young men. You're not broken you don't find them attractive. There were times when one of them would walk up to me, smirk, and try to hit on me. The first and only word out of my mouth was "No."
I read their NYC apartment was a rental, $45k/ month. All furniture rented as well, and the rental company is suing them for non-payment. The Hamptons house was leveraged to the hilt. All an illusion.

I agree. A lot of MLM people are such liars too. I know a lady who lived in a beautiful historic home and was a Rodan and Fields rep, pretty high up. She was encouraged to buy a cheesy new McMansion in another town and bragged about moving up in the world when really the new house was a lot cheaper and a huge step down for her. Played it out on social media like the biggest flex ever. She's now a shady AF insurance rep. People like that impress a lot of people but I like to look beneath the surface at reality.
Your comment made me think ... all these social media platforms with their fact checking of C19, vaccines, politics, etc. They should fact check all the finance influencers. Make them submit financial statements, tax documents, etc. proving their worth. Audit them somehow. Make them pay for it upfront if they want a channel teaching others how to be rich. Make them prove they got rich doing it, not by teaching it or selling some membership.
It's not about what it looks like, it's about net worth. You can have a huge house, flashy cars, big SUV's and be so in debt your net worth is zero or negative. Some of the most wealthy people are your next door neighbors with paid off houses, no debt, healthy retirement accounts and bank accounts that only the bank tellers know about....
Wealthiest guy i ever met - talking multi-millions of dollars, was totally low key. No fancy anything - mostly wore khakis & dad type shirts. He told me that you can always spot new money because they are like walking ads for designer junk.
I appreciate you talking about this because in the past, I have felt "behind" seeing all of these young adults living luxury lifestyles! I am 32 and am focused on investing for my future, but still find it wild to see people in their 20's living in gigantic homes, fully furnished 😂 I say that because I have the least amount of furniture lmao! and I'm learning that not all of this is true... and even down to, that house might not even be theirs (still wrapping my head around that one). BUT - the plus side is that I tend to limit myself in the things I can experience and these channels help me to open my world up a little bit and dream a little bigger. responsibly and within my means, of course!!

Even if they have a mortgage. Just because you can afford 30 grand a month today, doesn't mean you will pay it off when the money dries up from weird guy's online.
Also, never feel bad that you weren't a homeowner in your 20s. Historically, most people's first home purchase was in their 30s or something crazy and right now, homes are way overvalued.

Re: The Millers- Real Estate moguls in NYC have, for the last 40 years or so, have had all the trappings of wealth without the paper to back it, and it is not unusual for them to simply not pay workers nor investors. I was once in a class called Finance for Project Managers. We learned about assets, depreciating assets and how to calculate net worth and other finance items. As we were discussing loans and depreciating assets, a small discussion arose about people who may live in a big house or have a fancy car, and to recognize that some of them might be, to quote that ad, "in debt up to their eyeballs." I'm sorry that that ad is only on youtube these days because everyone needs to be reminded that everything is not all as it seems.

I'm in my late 40's. I have struggled with an ED, body image and self-esteem. In my 30's I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder, it put me on bed rest for years. I purposely avoided influencer social media because I know it would have a negative impact on me. I gave up FB too - seeing my friends perfect pics was having a negative impact on me. I know my friends pics aren't fake, like flex influencers, but it's still showing your best looks.
I recently started dabbling is social media. I find it fascinating that so much of this influencer genre isn't real. The scandals, drama OMG. I'm binging on content like this. I'd love some recommendations.

@AmoraTheEnchantress I’m so sorry for all you’ve been through. I’m 51 and have struggled with an ED since 14. I’m currently thankfully in remission from it, but 2-3 years ago, it was very active. I had a mini stroke and seizures all related to the ED. There is a specific influencer (E.C.) I have to avoid. When I watch them, it triggers those thoughts that start the ED going out of remission. I have to be careful what I do watch for that reason. You know how miserable an ED is. I’m so sorry you know, too. I had a therapist and psychiatrist and family doctor all tell me to realize that social media isn’t reality. I left fb for 1.5 years one time, and it was such a relief. I didn’t realize it affected me until I left. I’m in politics, so I had to come back to fb. I’m so sorry about your autoimmune disorder as well. Life can be hard with chronic illness. I hope you have a good support network. Hugs.

I’d rather have my 2 bedroom house, basic car and I have 0 credit (no loans, overdrafts or credit cards)in my name apart from my phone and bills paid and a full fridge, and able to use my gas and electric when I need too, than worry when a letter is posted or a knock on the door that it’s a bailiff etc.
Everything I buy I own outright, and if I can’t pay outright then I wait till I can.
