Repairing Tesla Window Regulators | Gruber Motors

- Every car manufacturer outsources certain parts, and in the case with the window regulators on most Tesla models it went to Inteva Products.
The issue with their design and cause for most defective Tesla window regulators, spawns from a small plastic ferrule that's located by the central reel housing.
This video addresses what appears to be a weak part in the Tesla Window Regulator, made by a well known supplier, Inteva, causing elevated warranty replacements. Oddly, this company invented the first-ever window regulator in 1917, allowing drivers to raise or lower windows while driving.
By 1924, they replaced certain wood components in their regulators with newly developed plastics and rubber, and seem to have been stuck since then with a plastic ferrule design in the window regulators supplied to Tesla, that appears to be the weak link creating failures.
Our video describes our insertion of a billet aluminum ferrule version, replacing the failure prone plastic of this part, and improving reliability.

I guess your idea and aluminum part should be sold to Tesla so they can correct every vehicle who has this problem ! Very good job guys !!
Would be very helpful to get a diy guide on how to take the regulator out and replace this.
Thanks for this video. It mentally prepares me for the inevitable. I have a modest metal working shop, purely amateur but I think I could reproduce the plastic part in aluminium of delrin (acetal plastic) or whatever seems appropriate at the time on my lathe for my 2015 Model S. Much appreciated.
excellent job, nice to see work in progress
My window regulator on my 2016 model x…passenger front door. I’m assuming this is the same regulator as the model S?? If so, do you sell the aluminum Ferrells? I’d like to fix mine right
Chaz in with the technical information. I love it :)
American 🇺🇸 product improved and made in USA very well done!
Curious what’s cost on the new part come out to be and how much money is saved in long run you think by not having to replace the window regulator
Beautiful brown Tesla
Brilliant, keep up the good work
After slipping on new ferrule, do you need to compress it to close the slit?
Hi, what's the average cost?
3 out of 4 windows on my 2014 model s have this problem.. the odd thing is they will roll window up all the way going 1 inch at a time but if i hold to scroll up, they rise an inch or two then retract. What is the cost to fix/can gruber sell just this part and people install themself?
Is the 2022 model 3 the same? Thanks
Reminds me of Mr Wolf
Hi Pete and Team.
That's a great idea! 💪✌️
Do you think to ship it to Germany if needed and what is your price idea for it?
Thanks for another think-tank solution of your company!
Stay safe!
Just take your old plastic broken one to a local machine shop to get one made.
So if my regulator still works but I'm hearing grinding and clunking sounds, it's probably because this plastic part failed right? Hopefully I could just swap this new metal part in.
I just opened up mine and discovered that the grinding noise was due to a frayed steel wire. I am not sure if I can just replace the cable at this point.
@@4puf that was same with mine! I was able to clean it up, clip some of the frayed wire, and it's (mostly) back to normal now, albeit with the new Gruber part too. What a mess though.
@@CurtisKlope Thanks for your reply. I am worried that the now damaged steel cable might fail again in the future and I really don't want to open everything up again. I think I will just replace the entire assembly with a new unit. I just can't believe how a company that have been making windows regulators for years have not figured out a way to make them more durable!
@@4puf agreed on that, it's a really bad design
@@4pufbecause they want you to buy a replacement in 8-10 years
Is the same regulator in the new Model S, 2021 on?
I wish someone would answer this question..
I could use at least two to have in stock once they fail so I can fix it, just as the door handle paddle gear. I guess shipping to EU will cost more then the item it self.
Would you sell and ship this to Germany ?
Yes we do sell the window regulator ferrule on our website. grubermotors.com
