the "boot room" is called a mud room in the US. As a kid, ours had the washer and dryer in there as well which is pretty common. Also it typically leads in from the garage, but not always. The sink is always a good idea to have, and shoe storage is usually in that room as well. (:
Our house has one, than the previous owners took out the garage to expand the living room, so the mud/ boot room simply became a laundry room. Our house with the expanded living room is 1250 sq ft. Another name for those rooms is also utility room. I know some house plans do call them that.

A suggestion! A lot of fancier southern US farm homes have two “living rooms”. One being the family room, just a basic livingroom, and then there’s a sitting room that you’re only allowed to use when you have guests, and it’s way fancier and cleaner than the family room. I dunno how you could translate that to the sims, but its a fun idea!
When you go to change the fridge, put the new fridge down before you sell the old one. That way, the produce won't end up in your inventory. I know with a rags to riches that may be easier said than done though 😂
So in Canada we have “boot rooms” (aka mud rooms) in a lot of our houses. It’s usually an addition that sticks out from the original building. And it may contain a washer and dryer, but it does not contain a shower. It does usually contain lots of storage and places to hang coats. It’s a buffer to keep dirt and cold out of the main house.
The only mudrooms I've seen with showers were down south in beach houses - a chance to rinse the sand off before coming in. But sometimes there will be at least a sink in the mudroom. Especially when it doubles as laundry room.

I love how you’ve never had a “boot room” (I know it as a mud room)...yet you’re determined to have one in the build. I feel bad that it was so amusing to watch you struggle with the floor plan. Oh! Also. Typically there is a small bathroom off of the mud room in U.S. floor plans. So that if you are working outside and dirty, you don’t dirty the house trying to get to a toilet. (Not that it’s really a worry in the sims. Just thought you may find it interesting) thank you for the time both you and Deli put into entertaining us all. It’s been something I look forward to during lockdowns.
James' concern for the little black bunny [Basil] was so cute tbh!! I am glad the rabbits are being so helpful, too I love the farm layout btw, its very organized.
James your cottage giving me anxiety 😂 if ever you're still in this house you can put the kitchen, bath and booth room at the back part of the house and then ladder and the living area in front so its near the front door. Then for the loft area you can reverse facing the living area so still you can have the fireplace.
Hey James , i've really been struggling with my mental health recently but your videos everyday bring me comfort and helps to ground me during some scary moments so thank you❤️
Making the "boot room" work on a farm is good! Where I grew up it is called a mud room. It's where you come in with your muddy shoes and clothes. Many I've seen has a big basin sink. Many have washer/dryers in them, coat racks, book racks, and many are attached to a bathroom so you can go shower if you are really muddy. Trust me. Growing up on a farm, it is super handy to have one so you can clean up before going inside so you don't dirty the house!
Love the 'boot room'. In New England here in the states, we call it a mud room. It's to take off your coats and boots in snow/mud season, so you don't track it through the rest of the house. Because it's mainly useful for winter usually don't have showers in it (too cold--not necessarily heated), but my H rides dirt bike, so a shower would come in handy for the summer riding season :)....a rack for coats, cubbies for hats/scarves, place for boots/shoes, place for umbrellas, maybe a rack for snow skis, and a small wood bin so the wood that you immediately bring in for the fire (with all its messy droppings) can sit here till you put it as you need it into the stove/fireplace....this is of course a 'big' mudroom. Smaller ones are just for coats and boots and maybe a snow shovel and toboggan so it can drip. Anyway, it's a lovely barn!
You should put a half wall behind the fridge and cabinets next to it. Then add a column at the end by the fridge, then put the dinning space at the front of the barn. Also, you should make a nice reading nook off of your living space somewhere a) to fill the space and b) to give some great cozy vibes. Imagine drinking your coffee, in this little book nook that looks out onto your farm. Like how comforting!
What would make this game even more realistic would be to have recipes like the Beef Wellington take several hours, because that's how long they take in real life. Even the Grand Meals should take longer to cook than just a normal meal. 🤣 Especially with the whole "group cooking" aspect, it would make it so much more fun making the process take a whole day before enjoying a delicious meal together.
Just to give you an idea. My aunt have a farm and yes she have that room when you get inside but its just for the shoes and bags and that kind of stuff but in the yard just next to the door of the house she have that big sink where she clean her self after work again an idea if you dicede to do something like that she have some buckets and that kind of stuff next to the sink (for decoration in your game) p.s. really love your game play 😊
James, I watch your videos while at work. I don't always pay upmost attention to the video. So when I heard a loud Bowser snore @5:39 I spent about a minute investigating my scanner, thinking it had made some weird sound. Till I was like "the video maybe??" And I had to slowly listen through. Pet him and tell him good job for sounding like a jammed scanner.
12:00 instead of spreading them out on the floor, I find it easiest to use move objects to place them all in the same space, and then manually drag them into my sims inventory. It's just simpler, smaller mouse movements.
Hey, James? I don't know what that 'Multiselect' button does in the Sim inventory at 20:19 but it's off. Would that help with the individual clicking for each item or no?
I hope the barn changes again. I liked the kitchen looking out to the garden & animals. I don't like the stairs along the 1 tile balcony like that, makes the balcony seem pointless to me. 19:59 - YES!!!! I've had this issue for years in the sims 4. And since all fridges on a lot share inventory, you can't just buy more to solve the issue.
we've really come a looong way already from the alleyway to this barn house, from 0 simoleons to 6 grand- GEEZ i can't help but feel somewhat nostalgic and at the same time, proud that i'm able to witness so much growth from this let's play.
If you need some suggestions for the house, the two I have are to put the bathroom off the boot room with connecting doors. I would also make the boot room bigger and put the laundry there, once you get access to the other packs. Also, being that this is a working farm your going to be doing a lot of work in the kitchen. I would make the kitchen bigger with a pantry off the side to store extra produce in. Maybe have a spare fridge for all the milk. It would work better if you had all the packs because then you could use the crates/boxes from the other packs. Not sure which pack that is. Also, since your bringing in wool from the llama. Maybe have a small room for sewing/ storing the wool in? Loving it so far! :-)
James, you completely nailed the new layout. I think the barn will look amazing once it's fully furnished. I hope Chaz will stick around long enough for us to see it complete! 😄
Maybe someone already mentioned this, but it's called a mudroom. Many rural and suburban houses had them for a while for taking off wet or muddy shoes and clothes, especially for kids playing in rain, mud or snow, or people doing dirty gardening and yard work, so you didn't track mess all over the house. There would usually be a bench to sit on, a place for the dirty shoes, and a basket for the messy clothes. In fact, the Muck Down Cabinet from Laundry Day is based directly on this. It even says in the description "Don't muck up your clean home! Place the Muck Down Cabinet in your mudroom..."

Didn't it also say that the chicken laying the egg has to be happy but have a bad relationship with the owner? Do any of them have a bad relationship?
@@brittanyfuller3461 you're right, only if they're an evil chicken do they not need a bad relationship
Whenever you talk about Agatha I just think “It’s been Agatha all along!”
When I play cottage living I won't fence in my chickens, just so if I sell them I can say my chickens are free range
They are free range. For them to be free range they have to have so much time outside. Having chickens with no fence irl would be dangerous for them
@@panda7924 I just meant they're like literally free range
Just make sure to keep foxes away
watch Carl’s Sim Guides. Apparently they venture reeeeeallly far and if you have a golden one it will venture out to help with random wild shrubs
How far can they wander off? I was thinking of doing this and removing the wild foxes challenge.
Every time I watch James try to figure out floor plans my blood pressure rises.
" I would looooove to get an evil chicken".. not something I ever thought I'd hear. 😅
“Now I’m going to go feed myself”
*clicks on toilet*
I love the idea of a boot room. Growing up we had a mud room, same exact thing! very necessary and I love it!
Loving the extra long episodes 🥰 this series is my fave yet!
I wish they would add a feature where you can hover over pets like cats or dogs to see their needs!
Chaz: Man I hope I get an Evil Chicken soon.
The Chickens: * sharpening knives *
Just to give you an idea. My aunt have a farm and yes she have that room when you get inside but its just for the shoes and bags and that kind of stuff but in the yard just next to the door of the house she have that big sink where she clean her self after work again an idea if you dicede to do something like that she have some buckets and that kind of stuff next to the sink (for decoration in your game) p.s. really love your game play 😊
The chaos of this reno was pure gold!!!
I am obsessed with this series. Thankyou for uploading everyday James. This has been such a hoot to watch.
James, I watch your videos while at work. I don't always pay upmost attention to the video. So when I heard a loud Bowser snore @5:39 I spent about a minute investigating my scanner, thinking it had made some weird sound. Till I was like "the video maybe??" And I had to slowly listen through. Pet him and tell him good job for sounding like a jammed scanner.
i look forward to this let’s play every night! it’s got to be one of my favourite rags to riches let’s plays so far :)
It's on par with Seasons. But nothing will ever beat whatshisname marrying Luna in a puddle of pee.
Sherry Brissette yes!!!! i loved seasons. this is going back a while, but i also really enjoyed the dine out rags to riches
12:00 instead of spreading them out on the floor, I find it easiest to use move objects to place them all in the same space, and then manually drag them into my sims inventory. It's just simpler, smaller mouse movements.
That frog is just along for the journey 😂😂
28:27 Imagine Hazel waltzing in one day with a bunch of miniature yarn in her hands and Chaz falling for her because of it
My favourite part of this video is Bowser's snores. It's comforting since I lost my pug around a year and a half ago. RIP Butter.
Hey, James? I don't know what that 'Multiselect' button does in the Sim inventory at 20:19 but it's off. Would that help with the individual clicking for each item or no?
I think it's only helpful if you're selling through the inventory, which James didn't want to do
Chuck the ends off a beef Wellington?!?! 😵 That's the best bit!!!!
James laugh makes his videos 10x better it’s so contagious! 😂😂
I love it how i can hear bowser snoring in the background or i think i can hear him XD
I am in love with this series the pack looks amazing!
we've really come a looong way already from the alleyway to this barn house, from 0 simoleons to 6 grand- GEEZ i can't help but feel somewhat nostalgic and at the same time, proud that i'm able to witness so much growth from this let's play.
They actually make spicy bird food for wild birds as a squirrel deterrent, because birds can't taste spice but mammals can, so your hens will be okay!
After 3 mins I was calling “Deli, we need your opinion in here” lol.
I am addicted to this series, I'm so excited when a new part pops up
This series is my fav I look forward to it everyday and it brightens my day
When the pub owner gives you food because he probably feels guilty over watching your struggling days of eating chips. 😂
