No room, drainpipe or cupboard on Hogwarts grounds would have been inaccessible to him, thus making it easier for the Marauders to map out the entire castle in no time, while also using Peter to do a bit of recon work whenever they skulked around the school, pulling pranks or getting up to all manner of mischief.
I read or heard somewhere that the map couldn't have been used by anyone else after the Battle of Hogwarts because Lupin had died in the fight. How is it that James was able to use it if the map ceased to function after the death of its last original maker?
I really enjoy listening to daily dose of Wizarding world Information! Me watching Everyday makes this channel an additional lesson in my everyday studies! Because of this I know everything ( or almost everything that you post in this channel ) about the boy who lived! Thank you once more!
What I heard was that filch didn't get hold of the map but marauders, in there 7th year intentionally gave it to filch. It was in a way that filch would think that he got his hands on the map with lot of effort but in reality it was the marauders intention. This was because they thought now that they're in their 7th year and wouldn't be needing the map. So they decided to give it to filch so that prankster like them if the coming generations like Fred and George could use it.
The map never revealed Peter in the books to Harry. It only revealed him in the movie. If you go by the books which are largely the more accepted cannon, then Peter always remained a mystery to everyone but Remus who knew Peter's animagus form.
I think the map is tied to the Book of Admittance. It most likely only provides the name of a person that was admitted into the Book of Admittance during the Sorting Ceremony and won't add anything to distinguish them even if there are more than one person with the exact same name. I for one think it should have assigned regnal numbers to people with identical first and last names to tell them apart. People often name their children after their parents or themselves, who by default would also be given the same family names. It would have helped Harry a lot if the map identified Barty Crouch Snr as just "Bartemius Crouch" and his son as "Bartemius Crouch II".
I think there is more to it. Filch, Peeves and Mrs Norris also appear on the map, and I'm sure they never got written into the book. Also, it makes no sense why someone who was, for instance, trained in a foreign school, wouldn't appear on the map. We never see it, but I think Igor Karkaroff would, despite never being a Hogwarts student. My theory is that the map is linked to the entrance itself. I book 3, the door is trained by Flitwick to recognize Sirius Black. I guess the Marauders put a spell on it to "register" anyone on the map who didn't appear on it before. For the real name, I'm sure there is a spell for it. The spell was never found on the door, as it does nothing else, and doesn't hurt anyone, ergo nobody thought to check it.
people at the school or that the marauders knew about i can understand is on the map, but what is realy impresive is that it can put people that wasent even born when the map was made on it. thats impresive
I think that each marauder represented traits of all four: James was boastful & brash and brave (Gryffindor); Sirius was hardworking and incredibly loyal (Hufflepuff); Remus was studious and kept to himself to ponder & question (Ravenclaw); Peter was conniving, backstabbing, and did whatever he needed to align himself with whomever he thought had the most power (Slytherin); I think that's how the map worked!
I mean you definitely deserved it. Been watching for 2 years now and almost every vid watched. Keep up the great content and take a break some time. I love the what happened after the deathly hallows vids and the explanation vids. Congrats of half a million :)
I was under the impression that the map would insult anyone who tried to read it without first solemnly swearing that they were up to no good. Not just Snape.
I always imagined they had to link the map to each room individually, coming up with ways to get into each of the dorms and offices by making friends, getting in trouble, and other shenanigans, all just to get the map covering everywhere. I also imagined that's why it didn't have the room of requirement.
Technically the map did get Barty Crouch correct when registering babies people dont add junior to their name its just a social invention so really there could be two Barty Crouchs on the map
Great video. I always wondered whether the Mauraders knew about the Room of Requirement. In the last book either Crabbe or Goyle used Fienfyre in the room. I'm wondering if the room is still usable or not. Enjoyed this video. Pettigrew was traitor, never liked him.
I suppose : Yes. But all hidden artefacts ...the place that room showed when a student has to hide something...will be destroyed. But as a trainingsroom for DA it still should work.
Wonderful video! I didn't know the way they created the map, that's why the video was so interested to me. Can you make videos about the spells used for the making of the various artifacts/magical objects in HP Universe pls?
8:29 is incorrect. Filch was the _caretaker,_ not the _groundskeeper._ Hagrid was the groundskeeper and had been for many years, ever since he was expelled.

Remus always had that scarr from Fenrir greyback the whole movie i never saw that scarr i only say it after he resigned when he fought buckbeak as a werewolf
I never understood why Harry immediately saw "Peter Pettigrew" on the map, but Fred & George were using it beforehand and would have seen the name literally right alongside their younger brother and never questioned it or said anything
That’s because it’s only a thing they had in the movies for suspense. In the books Harry never sees peters name once. The only person who ever sees peters name on the map is Remus, and both Remus and Peter created the map so it could be a thing where they only see each other
The Marauders' story and their map were some of my favorite parts of the third book. I was so disappointed when they were barely talked about it in the movie. We don't even know who they were and how it relates to Harry believing he saw his father. I was further disappointed by the following movie, and ended up not watching any of the other movies when they came out. I finally watched them a few months ago and they're pretty good. I just needed to see them as what they were: movie adaptations. I'm still disappointed about the Marauders not being explored though. Cheers from France! 🍻
I share in your disappointment although I will say both movies and books were a triumph in my opinion. Personally I'd have liked to see things through Peters eyes, he's portrayed as a runt like and evil figure but honestly I think at heart he was good just troubled like the other boys. There was an immense amount of love and darkness amongst the marauders, we get a sense of that but never a true taste, perhaps that is the nature of time and life, we only seem to get echoes despite our best endeavours.

Did Harry know that the marauders map was created by his father and Lupin and Sirius and Peter Petigrew?? I know the movie said something about Lupin knowing how to work it and stuff but I don’t think the movie ever said anywhere if Harry knew about The Marauders or that his dad was in the group who created the map? Do the books ever clarify about that at all? I’ve never read them but I’m sure they do, I’d just like to know for sure.
It's been forever since I've read the books, but I believe so during the third one after the truth about everything with Pettigrew and Sirius coming to light.

The reason why Jr. And Sr. Doesn't show up on the map is it's not in the name at birth. It is like a nickname. Just like how it wouldn't show anyone else's nicknames, as we all know people at the age they all are a lot of people use nicknames, especially in their group of friends even if no one else knows or just don't use them. But yes it does have a major flaw, or should I say JKR just didn't think about it when writing the third book. It doesn't show people the time travel or Lupin would have seen two Harry's and two Hermiones in the entrance hall. One of the pair with Ron that headed straight to Hagrids and the Harry/Hermione pair waiting in the closet while the other passed. As he did state that he was watching them in the map because he thought they might try to sneak to Hagrids. So if the map was "Always Right" as Sirius stated Lupin should have see the extra pair and new something was up. If he had seen them a lot of things could have happened differently.
Homunculus Charm implies to be a tracking spell of those targets, with a way to get around even the True Invisiblity Cloak, and Animagi antics The problem is a charcater shares the same name leading to Harry’s mix up of Father and Son in Goblet of Fire
Not related to this, but please answer who knows: How could Dumbledore not even consider betraying Grindelwald without the bloodpact nearly killing him. But Grindelwald consciously recruited the Credence to kill Dumbledore. Why didn't the bloodpact affect him? Thanks!
Video idea for you to do: What additional effects do spells have that are not seen in the movies? For instance, what else can the patronus charm do besides ward off dementors?
@@jamieA7Xfan90 Perhaps, but until the Map chose them, they couldn't use it. The Map chose them as it recognized them as being mischief makers Just look at Barty Crouch Jr. He could only use the Map because Harry had activated it. Barty couldn't clear it or reactivate it. Same goes for Snape, when he used the Map to chase down Lupin and the Trio. But when Snape tried to get the then deactivated Map to reveal its secrets, it rejected him and insulted him. I don't think that insult is specific to Snape, but an opening into the Map. If you recognize the invitation, the Map will reveal its password, and open itself, like the Portrait of the Fat Lady
I’ve got a question, they say a werewolf would kill his best friend & not know it when turned into a werewolf so how could he travel around hogwarts with his friends?
The problem with the map is that, if it was created by the use of a couple charms, even very difficult and demanding ones, others through the centuries would have done it too !
So this video just made think of something. If the map showed wormtails real name on the map why didn’t they ever ask Ron who was the Peter he was always hanging out with in the dormitory and sleeping with at night? cause seeing that on the map would have made me ask some questions
Dude, you're drinking that Snape was bullied Kool aid a little too heavily there. James was an arrogant toerag but he wasn't the villain that everybody thinks he was.
I feel like there is some flaws with your theory, how does the map know everyone In hogwarts in every generation? I think it’s because the map is made from the pages from the book of admittance. That’s how it even knows new students. And it was written by exploring the castle, that’s why it knows about the passage to the shreeking shack but not the room of requirement or chamber of secrets because the muraders never found those places.
They honestly chose the worst actors for young James and Peter. I would not associate with either of them solely based on their homely and suspicious looks.
random question.... do you think the philosephers stone give a squib magic? i mean its not as tho they have no magic at all. they can see ghostts, magical creatures, hogwarts. muggles cant see those things. especially hogwarts or the hogwarts express. but he can see all that so he must have the physiology of a witch/wizard without the secret sauce we call magic. but if the stone can grant eternal life, then is it not imparting magic to the elixer's drinker some how?
Well yes, I don’t think the philosophers stone would grant magic to a squib. As in they won’t be able to do magic but they would have that eternal life. In fact Nicholas Flamel is a real person who is a French scribe who built up a reputation of being a alchemist who was believed to have created and discovered the philosophers stone and had achieved immortality. So I don’t think the stone is based off of magic exactly, which was why his name was so hard to find.
@@clover2739 i know who irl nicholas flamel is. along with his wife who both have streets named after them in france. squibs cant do magic normally. however, the stone can do many things. its clear that the eternal life granted is magical in nature. to simplify my question: since squibs have the biology of witches/wizards would the introduction of magic into anatomy designed to manipulate magic gain any ability to control said magic as their anatomy is designed too?
@@clover2739 * should work with a squib like it does for everyone else thats of magical biology. i understand why ud think that. Hope we can get an actual canon answer some day. Till then all we can do is speculate one way or the other.
@@thedailyracecar2064 I don’t think you got what I originally said, when I talked about the real life Nicholas Flamel I was saying that it’s more to do with him being an alchemist than a wizard. I don’t think it’s to do with magic, which is why it wasn’t easy to find him or stuff about the philosophers stone in most magical textbooks so I don’t think it’s necessarily to do with magic. Plus I think you’re confusing it, squibs and muggles can’t do magic, as in they can’t make stuff like potions or elixirs and spells themselves. However spells and potions and magical objects always work of them, even if they can’t see it or know it’s happening. A squib wouldn’t be able to make the stone but if the stone is already made it would work on them like everything else does.

I feel it would be better if the Marauders didn't create the map that they simply found the Marauders map and then that's where they got their nickname and then they called themselves the Marauders because I feel like if the map had enchanted magic from like one of the founders it could have had magic similar to Gryffindor Sword which takes in knowledge to make it stronger and better so the owner of the map whoever that is it would take in what they knew and add to the map but the Marauders invented it and supposedly they weren't skilled enough to add this bit of magic to the map

Where do you keep getting these pictures of Peter petigrew as a young man??? They’re never shown in the movies but they look such high quality???
The Weasleys contribution to stopping Voldemort and his death eaters is astronomical, directly or indirectly.
Never thought of it like that..😮
I mean you definitely deserved it. Been watching for 2 years now and almost every vid watched. Keep up the great content and take a break some time. I love the what happened after the deathly hallows vids and the explanation vids. Congrats of half a million :)
You should do a video on the shops in Diagon alley!
Thanks for postin this mate. Id been curious bout this
I was under the impression that the map would insult anyone who tried to read it without first solemnly swearing that they were up to no good. Not just Snape.
I always imagined they had to link the map to each room individually, coming up with ways to get into each of the dorms and offices by making friends, getting in trouble, and other shenanigans, all just to get the map covering everywhere. I also imagined that's why it didn't have the room of requirement.
The Room of Requirement is also almost certainly unplottable.
This indeed.
A Very Good Video 👍🏻
Now you have to do a video re making things unplottable: The Black house, room of requirement...
That map was super vital, vital indeed.
Keep up the amazing content and congratulations on the recent channel milestone. Here’s to another 500k and then many many more subs.
" Masters Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs offer their complements to Professor Snape and advise him to keep his abnormally large nose out of other people's business!!!!!" 🐺🐕🦌🐀
James did bully everyone who stood up to him, he bullied Snape for wanting to be a death eater and being obsessed with the dark arts

this proves, the marauders , arrogant, but smart and skilful.
Isn't this also interesting though because it only was able to use the information that the original Marauders gathered, but yet it knows about future students and they're whereabouts and things that change within the castle
The mauraders were the golden girls of Harry Potter.
Lupin was betty white.
Peter Pettigrew was Blanche

The Marauder's map never served to discouvert Pettigrew's identity.

Great video
Mischief managed!
Wait it would be so cool if the map passes down to generations and generations of Harry’s kids.
Technically, as of the Cursed Child, it was, to James the 2nd… perhaps other successor Potters might be tested in yoinking it
The Marauders reminds me of the F4... 🤔
But what does the Homongulus (?) charm do? It's an interesting video, even if you didn't explain it completely.
Homunculus Charm implies to be a tracking spell of those targets, with a way to get around even the True Invisiblity Cloak, and Animagi antics
The problem is a charcater shares the same name leading to Harry’s mix up of Father and Son in Goblet of Fire
Not related to this, but please answer who knows:
How could Dumbledore not even consider betraying Grindelwald without the bloodpact nearly killing him.
But Grindelwald consciously recruited the Credence to kill Dumbledore. Why didn't the bloodpact affect him?
Thanks!
From a glance barely looking at screen and looking back and I thought it said "how the Marauders map was cursed" lol
I wonder what Olivander had to say.
Video idea for you to do:
What additional effects do spells have that are not seen in the movies? For instance, what else can the patronus charm do besides ward off dementors?
You can't steal the Marauders' Map. It's like a wand. It chooses its owner.
the Weasley twins stole the Marauder's Map from Argus Filch's office
@@jamieA7Xfan90 Perhaps, but until the Map chose them, they couldn't use it. The Map chose them as it recognized them as being mischief makers
Just look at Barty Crouch Jr.
Peter was at fault for all of their deaths. Had he not brought voldy back, the other 2 wouldn't have died like they did.
Why did it not show peter Pettigrew earlier?
Is there any information on where Tom Riddle lived between years of school?
My question is how did Fred and George find out the passwords to activate the map. or even know it was special when they stole it from Filch?
The problem with the map is that, if it was created by the use of a couple charms, even very difficult and demanding ones, others through the centuries would have done it too !
That's assuming anyone else had the desire to.
so basically harry is the student that discover the most of hogwarts until that point. the founders would be proud.
Do you think the map lost its abilities when Remus died?
Why would it? What other magical objects in the HP books stop functioning when the creator dies?
I’m more than likely sure Dumbleore helped create the map. How else would James & friends could have created it without the original blueprints.
Is poly-juice or truth potion common in Harry Potter ?
I always tought that it qas made from the pages of the book os aceptace and wrote with the ink from the quill of admitance,
So this video just made think of something. If the map showed wormtails real name on the map why didn’t they ever ask Ron who was the Peter he was always hanging out with in the dormitory and sleeping with at night? cause seeing that on the map would have made me ask some questions
in the true canon, the books, peter wasn’t shown on the map. that was only in the movies.
It does show someone’s full name it says Peter pettigrew etc
it sounds like they put a bit of themselves into it. bit about snape sounds like it could be true.

Great video thank you☆☆☆
but how did fred and george know the password??
random question.... do you think the philosephers stone give a squib magic? i mean its not as tho they have no magic at all. they can see ghostts, magical creatures, hogwarts. muggles cant see those things. especially hogwarts or the hogwarts express. but he can see all that so he must have the physiology of a witch/wizard without the secret sauce we call magic. but if the stone can grant eternal life, then is it not imparting magic to the elixer's drinker some how?
@@thedailyracecar2064 the only way I can answer is that the stone would work with the squib that it does for everyone else
How the hell any of them make it into gryffindor?
How could 4 bullies like the Marauders be in Gryffindor?
I believe only James & Sirius were bullies and mostly towards Slytherin’s and Snape. James liked Lily who was friends with Snape…
Bullies can be in any houses. However, given its traits, it is really hard for bullies to be sorted into Hufflepuff.
@@paulyb7267
Weren’t Cedric’s friends very hostile and mean to Harry, i.e. Bullying…
@@genohall2235 To be honest, the whole school (except the Gryffindors) were very hostile and mean to Harry when his name came out of the Goblet of Fire.
@@paulyb7267
I agree, just pointing out an instance of Hufflepuff bullying.
I think I have an answer as to why Snape taught Harry Occulmancy, If you would like to hear it.
Any one ever wonder if Fred and George ever just happened to take a gander at the map some night before they gave it to Harry, just happened to look at the 3rd years dorm room and saw some dude named Peter laying in Ron’s bed with him every night and just never said anything about it..thinking this whole time that Ron was into butt stuff
Why was James known as Prongs?
Because James's animagus was a stag.
In the book the only person who sees Peter’s name on the map is Remus, Harry never sees peters name either. I guess it could be because the marauders can only see each other
How was it that Peter Pettigrew, one of the biggest cowards in the series, put into Gryffindor, the house of courage? I feel like Slytherin, or even more likely, Hufflepuff, was more fitting for him!
More please
Hello
Young snape looks like Wednesday Adams
james was a bully and therefore no one worthy enough to look up to and lily downgraded when she chose james over Snape, Snape whould've been able to protect her
Honestly that was part of why Snape and Harry initially clashed because on one hand he could see Lily in Harry but also could see the arrogance and overconfidence of James truth is he was really the only guy who knew that James was a massive prick and a bully
@@kurtpunchesthings2411 Shut the hell up about James, he wasn't a shitty person his whole life. James isn't responsible for Snape being a Death Eater, in fact Snape was already prejudiced against muggles before attending Hogwarts. The only difference between James and Snape is that James grew up whereas Snape didn't, something that an obnoxious Snape fan like yourself will NEVER understand. James was a lot more braver and ten times the person than Snape ever was. Also, James never 'took' or 'stole' Lily from Snape, Snape was the one who drove Lily away. Lily CHOSE to be with James, something you Snape apologist/fans are jealous.
The one thing I will say about Snape though is he never really changed. Harry aside, he was a jerk to most of his students, look at how he treated Neville, as far as we know Neville’s parents didn’t do anything to him and yet he’s still an ass.
how could snape protect lily from voldemort, in case you didn't know snape was not better than james, he bullied the muggleborns during his years at hogwarts and called them mudbloods as a matter of fact that was the reason lily cut ties with him in the first place, he also was the reason of her death anyway love isn't something you can control whenever you want, lily was friends with snivellus but she never liked him.
Why were they friends with peter? They never really explain that. It just seems out of character. For 2 of the most popular kids to befriend him.
Remus was already friends with Peter when they became friends with Remus, so he sort of came as a package deal. And they all shared a dorm, they're obviously going to become friends. And plus sirius and James are arrogant af and Peter acted like they were heroes, of course they'd keep him with them to feed their ego
I feel it would be better if the Marauders didn't create the map that they simply found the Marauders map and then that's where they got their nickname and then they called themselves the Marauders because I feel like if the map had enchanted magic from like one of the founders it could have had magic similar to Gryffindor Sword which takes in knowledge to make it stronger and better so the owner of the map whoever that is it would take in what they knew and add to the map but the Marauders invented it and supposedly they weren't skilled enough to add this bit of magic to the map
.
Cannot stand James potter!!!!!
