  • Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re discussing Albus Dumbledore, the Half-Blood Prince, Voldemort & the vicious curse with which Dumbledore was afflicted.
    Albus Dumbledore was the most powerful wizard of his era.
    And the sudden, tragic news of his death sent shockwaves throughout Britain.
    But while many mourned, others rejoiced.
    With Dumbledore out of the picture, Voldemort and his Death Eaters had removed the single, largest obstacle in their rise to power.
    And even though Severus Snape might have cast the final spell that killed the much beloved headmaster of Hogwarts, it was Lord Voldemort’s curse that truly murdered him.
    So you might be curious… what exactly did Voldemort do to Marvolo Gaunt’s ring, in order to have such a lethal effect?
    We’ll uncover that mystery, and more, in today’s video.

    I just realized that if Voldemort hadn’t been so eager to punish Lucius for his failure at retrieving the prophecy by forcing Draco to murder Dumbledore, Dumbledore would eventually have died as a result of the ring which probably would have made Voldemort the master of the Elder Wand.
    I guess that was also why Dumbledore was so insistent on Snape killing him first.

      The interesting is maybe Rowling was take idea for this curse from the real world. More punctually from Anthrax which is a virus what make similar effect on the skin (necrosis) if it enter your body through a wound, which is can be deadly but not as deadly as if you inhail it.
      But this is just a subjective opinion.

      I always viewed it in the sense that the curse had already “marked” Dumbledore for lack of a better term. Perhaps if he were to cut his hand off it may have just moved to a different part of his body. I mean, this is a really obscure and dark spell right? Besides if amputation was an option, Snape and Albus are some of the most brilliant wizards who ever lived, they’d have figured it out.

      If it is true that the curse on the ring was supposed to kill the person who puts it on immediately, then Voldy wouldn't think much of Dumbledore's rotten hand, since as far as he's concerned there wouldn't really be time for his hand to rot like that since he was supposed to die immediately.

    Tom Riddle had in his possession the resurrection stone. This means he could have called his Mom back from the dead before he ever created a horcrux and that could have saved him from the path he took. Also: dumbledore kept a close eye on Tom Riddle, it’s surprising that he never noticed the ring held the deathly hallows he was seeking.
    Also: I believe Luna’s mother was trying to come up with a spell that would allow her to talk to magical críptics by transforming herself into said animal but because the spell required her to be all magical creatures instead of just one the spell was unstable and killed her, this is why Luna is so open minded because she learned it from her mother.

      Pretty weird the diary is his first horcrux, as the way its created it because someone heard him opening the chamber, and he opted to kill them... I mean JKR has said that the process for creating a horcrux is extremely vile, and requires much more than just killing a person, otherwise people would be creating them accidentally when they murder people.

  • @latech7671
    @latech7671 2 года назад +42

    I think it might actually be possible that, despite what Snape thought, destroying the Horcrux after directly after the curse was placed upon Dumbledore might have helped a little bit as at that point in time during the moment the Curse needed to be strongest (while it consumed it's victim), Dumbledore destroyed 1/8 of the casters soul and even if it was dark magic, I still think that dark magic needed the casters Soul to work (as we see with Horcruxes, the darkest of spells, needing part of the "soul" to work).
    This would by extension also mean that Voldemort became weaker when it comes to his magical abilities as the Series went on and especially during the last book. Even if I think that Voldemort was even with only 1/8 of his soul remaining still extremely powerful and probably way more than most Wizards

    • @karlrovey
      @karlrovey 2 года назад +3

      Depending on the Horcrux, it mathematically could have had as much as 1/4 of Voldemort's soul or as little as 1/64 (not counting Harry, Nagini, or the portion remaining in Voldemort; assuming it divided in half for each horcrux). The diary would have had 1/2. The second horcrux would have had 1/4, the third 1/8, the fourth 1/16, fifth 1/32, 6th 1/64, then Harry with 1/128, and Nagini and Voldemort each with 1/256 of Voldemort's soul.

With the ring a quest of nearly a century had come to an end and he wanted to see his family back so desperately, he simply couldn't resist the appeal (we also don't know if the ring, the resurrection stone doesn't have extra magical pull to those who are in desperate need of seeing their deceased loved ones. I think than Voldemort, the ring had to do more here. This was his first Horcrux, he obviously was not a great wizard as he was when he made his final Horcrux, plus why would he place his most powerful Horcrux in a place in the simplest of places to find. One could say that the ring worked like the diary as a killing machine. But couldn't he have done it with all seven of his Horcruxes? My theory is that the curse was strong due to the fact that it contained the resurrection stone. The stone was used to bring people back from the dead. By placing his soul in the ring he sealed his soul in a place where souls can be resurrected from. So I think this made the ring even more powerful. Plus it was created by death, so its main function is any way to kill. Voldemort just gave it an easy way to do so. I don't really think the ring could be easily destroyed by Gryffindor's sword as I think a deathly hallow is much more powerful and deadly compared to a sword made by goblins.

I could be very dead wrong (no pun intended) but maybe the curse was turning Dumbledore into an inferi. Voldemort was such an expert in making them. He made tons in the cave where Dumbledore and Harry found the fake Slytherin locket. I wonder if he place a curse on the ring that had the Deathly Hallow stone that brought back the dead and defiled it by turning anyone who wore the ring into an inferi. It indeed would have been a fate worse than death itself. My own personal theory in the matter of spellcraft roots it’s way into other fantasy type shows movies or novel series that involve similar means.
    In laments terms, imagination. Your innate magical affinity while mentally envisioning what you desire and pairing both that creates the desired outcome. However this is dangerous, as your imagination has no limits beyond what yourself can imagine but if you put too much magical power behind it, it will overwhelm you and very well could be deadly. It’s all in the matter of willpower.
    If your mind is strong enough and well practiced enough in the basic arts and already having a pre-existing high affinity for magic. Spellcrafting can be something that comes naturally but it still requires you to work out this new spell and thoroughly document how it’s procedure is meant to be executed so it doesn’t backfire.
    This all a shot in the dark and I could be way off but it’s my own personal theory on the matter and one that’s always stuck with me in whatever I’ve explored, how little of the actual process of creation of such things is explained or documented if at all. I know it takes the the more mystical aspects but I find it also enriches it just as much.

Did he even need to put it on? He could've picked it up on the sides and if he didn't have the Sword of Gryffindor with him put the ring in some sort of box and apparate back to Hogwarts.

    An Inferius was a dead body, reanimated by a Dark Wizard's curse. Dark lord used them before so we can asume he will do that again. On the ring he used custom spell that turns someone into inferius. Dumbledores hand seemed dead to Harry. Voldemort wanted victim to die slowly so he can examine it before it dies and to get knowledge how someone discovered horcrux - so he used terrifying potion in cave. No instant death but making someone vulnerable and weak. Same with the marvolos ring - slow death probably turning into inferius. Dumbledore knew that he have to be killed before he turn into inferius bcouse maybe Voldemort can control inferiuses and maybe Dumbledores body could become powerfull weapon if Voldemort could controll him. Dumbledore wouldnt be dead neither alive so magical abilities could remain untouched in his body.

There's a snake in Australia called the King Brown. It kind of acts the same way this curse seemed to in that it's venom doesn't kill you quickly. In fact, it's necrotic, causing your skin to blacken and wither. Oftentimes even amputation isn't enough to stop the spread. As for could he have survived till Riddle died, doesn't matter. He'd have gotten much weaker and been in so much pain he couldn't have fought and a death eater would have just walked up to him and killed him.

Further, we don't really know what it would do in the short term because we only see it in action AFTER Dumby returns to Hogwarts, which means he had already slowed it's spread and effects. What I'm curious about is what the "golden potion" that Snape pours down Dumby's throat is. The only golden potion we know of is Felix, but that's clearly not the potion used here.
