It’s very similar to the 2.7 however it’s quite weak compared to the 2.7 in terms of adding Power/boost. I would recommend swapping your 2.8 for a 2.7 if you’re serious about making power in your b5.5. It should be an almost bolt in swap.
S4VAGE PERFORMANCE I have a 2002 passat it’s the front wheel drive, I’m a huge car fan but never worked on a VDub before. I’m definitely wanting more horsepower than the original motor has, doing the 2.7 swap (being biturbo) you’re saying the trans should bolt up - so what would I need after installing? New gas lines, new ecm, tune?
Trey Garcia The 2.7 should bolt up but I wouldn’t recommend it. If you’re really looking for a decent amount of power and aren’t stuck on a b5.5 I’d look into a platform that comes with a 2.7 stock. S4,A6 or Allroad. Much less work and you get Quattro.
Sometimes,( From what I've read) it's a hit or miss, but what I see, the quality and welds seem to be pretty good. Cannot wait for the final product. Did I hear you saying it's going in the B7? Is that going to be the guinea pig? Or was it purchased specifically for the B7? Sorry, I thought I remembered it was suppose to be for the B5.
Kiss Kiss You are right I was originally planning to put this engine along with the single turbo kit in my noggy S4. However since I picked up the b7 Avant I decided this engine would be perfect for it along with a smaller single turbo. So that’s what I planning to do.
That was looking at that video the kit for the pipe seem to be good you just got to use your own Turbo from what they got based on it so I can actually get some of those not Chinese and stick on it
Devin Sand Different companies but same kit. XS Power manufactured the kits and PB5 rebranded them. I bought my kit directly from XS Power but it came in a PB5 box with the PB5 logo on the up pipe.
S4VAGE PERFORMANCE hey was wondering if your up pipe leaked? I noticed they don’t use a gasket? And the flange does not sit all the way flush. Though that was weird. But every pic I check there all the same
Any updates?
Did you ever finish build?
Are you going to make videos on this? I also have a e60 and I’m throwing a stk into my b5 aswell
ZeroGravGaming Yes I’m hoping to continue the b5 build this winter.
Any updates on the build?
Philippe Williamson Unfortunately not much has been happening on it during the summer. But I should be back on it the winter.
Is the b5.5 2.8 the similar engine? I’ve been searching everywhere and debating about custom making my turbo manifolds

S4VAGE PERFORMANCE Ahhh that makes sense now. Go forth my friend.. still staying tuned as I always enjoy seeing B6/B7 with the 2.7T 😉👍
Kiss Kiss Thanks! The b5 build is continuing but I’m starting from scratch and going fully built.
S4VAGE PERFORMANCE Thank you, for keeping yet another B5 alive!!
Super Dog.

XS Power and project B5 are not the same
