We had a gelding that fostered all orphaned foals. He was super gentle with his little charges, and he corrected them when needed, but also protected them. He couldn't work anymore due to a hip injury, so he moved onto his new career as a 'stay at home daddy."
Aw how sweet ❤️
Interesting. My first gelding eons ago was the alpha horse in the 'herd', but he became the baby sitter. He loved the foals and was always gentle with them. He would gently discipline the kiddos when they needed it.
Poppy finding a replacement mom is fantastic. I was on the night her mom died and felt so bad for her. Grow like the poppies in the fields, sweet Poppy Girl!
OH HOW SWEET! THIS BLESSES ME! THANK YOU FOR CARING FOR THESE MAJESTIC CREATURES! POPPY, YOU ARE BLESSED! NEW MAMA, THIS PRACTICE PRACTICE IS GOOD FOR YOU! ENJOY! ❤❤
It's very fortunate that Poppy is old enough to eat on her own. We lost a mare once that had new foal. He was only a month old, and we had no other mares. We nursed with foalac and introduced watered-down oatmeal. He grew into a fine, healthy horse.
Think the mustang mare is pregnant and her mom hormones are kicking in and accepting Poppy.. Hope all goes well for Pppy and the mustang mare, if pregnant, has a healthy foal and all goes well. Love what you do for them.
Let's hope they move her out before the foal is born to that she doesn't nurse and take the colostrum that belongs to the newborn. I Personally would allow it just long enough for the filly to adjust but no longer than that, certainly the filly needs removed before the new foal is born.
New beginnings for Poppy and mustang Sally. Beautiful.
Thd trot on that mustang looks smooth
At 4 months she can make it on her own
The pregnant mare was the first to pop in my mind. I'm glad you tried different horses and listened to them when it was apparent it wouldn't work. and I'm glad you recognize that even at 4 months old, Poppy needs a mom/companion. *fingers crossed* this works and Poppy has a happy ending.
Poppy even looks a lot like her. Glad you found a match. 🎉
Mustangs are so intelligent
Great lines on this young Poppy.
That foal is so stiff and badly formed in the hindquarters. It's horrible that people actually breed for that.
So sad, but a mustang mare is a super idea. She would have lived in a herd with other mares and foals, and while they don’t usually nurse other foals, they do all get along together and baby is old enough to eat some grass and foal pellets, etc.
That was wonderful to watch. Great to see you taking such time and care to find the right match. Poor poppy having lost her mum. My condolences to the owner on losing Vinnie 😢
Mom passed 4 months after? So sorry for the familys loss 😢 poppys a doll and what a sweet mare and what beautiful mover!
Aww what a special sweet mare
Gemma is my name suggestion for the mustang!
Awe she was clacking 😊❤
Good looking well put together mustang who is definitely very pregnant. Always liked the name 'SALLY' for a mustang mare because of the song 'Mustang Sally'.
Now you gotta name that mustang! The mustang i learned to ride on was called Mamasita❤
So sad her Momma died---but at least the little filly got a start in life with her birth mother.
Beautiful filly.
Awww, how sad that Poppy's mum died. I'm glad you were able to find a buddy for her. That Mustang mare is a cutie. I love how she moves. She needs a special name. 🥰
So sorry for the loss of the mare but glad you were able to find a suitable substitute. It’s unfortunate that these things have to happen! 🐴🐎
Sad abput Poppy's mom but glad she bonded with the mustang mare. I tiink the mare is pregnant.
My 4 month old colt was weaned from his mom at 4 months old. She just started kicking him off. So we weaned him. We had another foal to put him with. And the babysitter. My sisters Arabian gelding.. He was the perfect babysitter. He kept big horses away from the weanlings and taught the horse manners. Enjoy your horses I sure enjoyed mine when I had them.❤❤
Thank you, a very nice video. I am glad Poppy found a friend.
That's so sad but I'm glad to know there was something good come out of the process in the end.
Loving your attention to the little details of their body language xx ❤❤❤
This is such a good outcome. Sometimes people do not know that horses act very differently than humans and pecking order is very important. Glad this mare was so accepting. I hope you give her a sweet name and yes, she looks pregnant. Even her bag looks a bit swollen. Blessing it all!
What a sweet mustang mare. She definitely looks pregnant. She needs a good name!
Omgoodness Poppy😢 Ughhh, my heart breaks for her, but, thk you Jesus, her newfound friend may be just the answer they both need!!!❤️🐎❤️🙏🙏😘
Leave it the a mustang to adopt another in need❤👍.
Yay poppy!
This mare will teach her heard manners. Poppy does not need to nurse any longer so I hope this will be a good match. Since she was weaned early do uou supplement her, we give all our foals and mares calf mana (not sure spelling). We start the mares early so they get the boost before foaling. Best wishes oh and Poppy is beautiful.
What a lovely & moving video.
I guess Poppy is a young yearling filly now & hopefully doing well❤
Oh so sad for Poppy to lose her mom, but so happy the Mustang Mare was a good fit! Very sweet... inloved Poppy's clapping with her mouth! 🥰💕🐎
Ahh..poor Poppy..but it was great to see the process you go through to try and match up the right horses..the Mustang if pregnant will have mommy hormones which could have helped in this case..she seems very calm for a Mustang but she is beautiful and its great that Poppy now has a companion/friend and although she will obviously miss her mama she is not on her own..you never know that she could be a great sister to the Mustangs baby..gotta give her a name..what about Princess..or Penelope..Penny for short..she deserves a sweet name..🇬🇧💞🙏✝️👍👏🐎🐴🇺🇸
Have you ever tried a gelding? I have a QH gelding who adores foals.
That mare is definitely pregnant 🤰
This video melted my heart. I hope Poppy succeeds and grows even more beautiful with her new friend❤
Us too!
Beautiful baby ❤
Both are just so beautiful. Loved, Subscribed, & Ding.
A sad start but a lovely new life for the little cutie with the mustang x wonderful channel
The last mare that accepted Poppy looks like a "Lola" to me! Please name her; she's just a nobody until you do! How will Poppy be when the foal is born? How will the mare treat her when that happens?
We are just taking it day by day! We find out soon if the mare is even pregnant
Awesome
Thank you for this lovely video but also so very sad. Poor little Poppy loosing her mom. I have say, you tried so hard but it’s so nice the new Mustang accepted little Poppy. Watching the Mustang I am sure she’s in foal. This should make Poppy not feel so alone. Thank you for working hard to get Poppy a friend. Blessings 🙏💗💗🌠
beautiful filly
The way Poppy pulled his hit back so he wouldn’t hit her was so sweet❤
I love this!❤
I am very sure that the mumma horse is about to have a baby 😂😂
Gosh that was a lovely video! Poppy is gorgeous ❤
Poor baby! So glad she found a mom to bond with. But what will happen when she has her foal?
That mare ended up not being pregnant
She’s definitely pregnant. Yeah she is how long she has to go is unknown. It looks like it won’t be long but little guy. He’s having a good time to. Hopefully they will get along. Be good friends.
Yes, I would say your mustang is pregnant!!
I would love to see all the mustangs you have. Their my favorite.
We have a few playlists of mustang training you can check out. Right now the mare in the video is the only mustang on property
You need a Manny! We have a gelding that thinks he has a uterus. Takes babies in and is a great with them!
❤❤❤
So great they are getting along
Loved this video
So great they are getting along
Theu are both beautiful
Beautiful baby
Very compelling, good narrative.
What a wondeefulbfind for little poppy. She is such a cutie.
Yea she is preggers. It is in the way she looks from the front. You brought her in and I was like whoa. I am glad she took to Poppy.
I'm so glad that I found your channel. : )
Welcome!
I had a mare that was an enigma. She was very much a passive leader. When we had a brood mare die I took this mare to collect the foal from the stud. By the time they came out of the horsebox she had 'her' baby. I turned them out in a small paddock alongside the other mares and foals. Madam showed 'her' baby. They were totally bonded.
I would use her for weaning. I’d turn her out with the mares and foals, within a short time the foals would be with her, their dams just a mobile milk bar. I always said she told wonderful stories to the foals!
She was worth her weight in gold.
Awesome!
❤🙏
Hi, just started watching your videos. Very enjoyable and informative. With your heip ,I think the fisl is going to OK. Question, the pasture the fial and mare were in, what kind of fence line are you using, is it electric, and do you have an estimation of distance between posts. Trying to get ideas for when I set up my own farm. Thank You
We use electrobraid brand fencing, posts are set minimum of 25 ft feet apart. Its very easy to set up and effective with solar or plug in chargers.
“This video hopefully has a happy ending”??? I was miles off!!
I don't know much about horses (but I love them). But I was wondering if the mare pulling you around was normal? Looked kinda scary to me 😮 Hope Poppy gets a horse to teach her well!
Yes that mare in an untrained mustang
Should name the mustang angel
The mustang would be used to foals around in her herd
This is fabulous work you guys are doing. I don't understand leaving the rope halter on in field or yard as I was taught never to as if caught on fence or they get a leg through it can cut to the bone or kill them. They are best as a training tool though if a halter is left on it should be a webbed one as it will most likely break not causing injury.
We do leave it loose enough so they can wriggle it off..there are risks with everything, for us its riskier to have uncatchable horses get loose than to keep a halter on for a week
bring the herd in closer.
How old are the foals when they’re weaned? The mustang definitely looks pregnant
So far so good and I'm happy for Poppy at the moment, I just wonder how things will be when the foal is born. Will the Mustang mum chase Poppy away, reject her?
We'll definitely ask our vets/others for advice on that!
Any updates on Sally and Poppy? I so hope they got on well!
And the new baby.....?
They did! Poppy moved to Florida last fall. More updates coming!
I think the mustang was a better fit because she would've been used to other foals. She seemed to be establishing her rank as herd leader oer se. Importance on she should follow and obey the mare.
That mustang is definitely pregnant
At 4 month old that filly needs mares around to learn manners but not milk. The best thing you could have done was put both the buddied up mares in with her together and get out of the way
We let the owner decide how she wanted the set up to be. The field they're in only has enough grass for 2 horses 👍
I think the new mare definitely looks pregnant. And she seemed very sweet to Poppy. I think the mare's hormones are flowing, and she has adopted Poppy. Good job!
@@anglophils645 you also mis the fact that she is a mustang. She learned herd behavior as a foal without human sticking their noises in. Witch is the root of most problems with horses. A band of mares will always adopt a foal yet a brood mare mare band will act different towards it
I would call her Muse ... the beautiful Mustang without a name.
If she still needs one MUSE
I put my money on. She’s pregnant too.
But won't the mare chase her off when she has her own foal?
Poppy should be old enough to go with other horses by then
Looks as if you're mommy
subtitle please
Too bad you didn’t have Whinny then.
Please be careful wrapping the lead rope, it’s too easy to end up with a nub and a thumb.
I always weaned at 3 months. Once they eat feed they can be weaned, its better because, the mares will get run down the older the foals get. My foals do great. But yes, they do need a buddy or 2!
A4 month old will be fine without a mare
We didn't want her in a field alone, no horse deserves that.
No she wouldn't. She is still a baby herd animal. She needs companionship and a role model so she learns how to have herd manners and can integrate with other horses in the future. Locking a child in a room with no other human interaction except to feed it is abuse. Leaving a foal alone in a field with no horse interaction is also abuse. Foal are also much more prone to dying from stress than adults and isolation is one of the most stressful conditions for horses.
Did you call the vet in a hurry? Mom could have been safed
Yes we had the vet out - mom twisted colon overnight and nothing could be done.
You have no ground control on any of those horses. You are going to get hurt one of these days.
Please come and do better on a brand new barely handled rescue..
The flies should have been your cue to stop worry the gelding, all you're doing there is stressing out both horses and making it harder for all involved. Horse meetings need to be set up got the chance for success and you really fumbled that. The rest of the introductions were better handled, especially the mustang one. It's possible the mustang has had a foal or lost one since it doesn't seem to be bloat her sides stick out abnormally. She could also have a false pregnancy.
4 months old is old enough to be weaned. She needs a friend but she doesn’t ‘need’ a mother. She’s sure pretty.
