    I was one of the people who commented on the SAL 6830 being left out and the lack of need of shielded cargo holds. Same goes for the jammer. Once you lose the shielded cargo, there is no need for a jammer any more. So to everyone who found this video even more informational than the original, you are welcome!
    Hands down one of the best designs I have seen in the game so far. It checks all the boxes as far as I'm concerned. Maneuverability, speed, reactor power, grav jumping, looks, and interior pathway design. Just don't ignore key ship skills under "science". Aneutronic Fusion give you more power from your reactor. And by level 60 you can pretty much forget about having to manage energy allocation to your systems. But you have to put some points into Science to unlock this skill. Another key one is "Astrodynamics". You can jump further. This is crucial in early game when your grav drives aren't the best or you run with a heavy ship. (You can tell your ship is heavy simply by the loss of speed. Class A engines for example should allow you 130 max speed. Less than that and you are "heavy" ship.
    And of course it goes without saying that under "tech" you have to fully unlock Piloting and Starship Design. Piloting is easy to level. Just do the simulator repeatedly once you unlock the Vanguard questline. Starship Design just goes with the territory.
    I've probably dumped close to a million credits into my design and the more I experiment, the more I lean towards a similar design to what he has done. Because unless you want to fly a flying brick, you need wings that are functional and can take some of the design demands off the main trunk of the ship.
    Just to be clear, to duplicate his results you really need to have come close to beating key questlines in the game and be a high level 60 to unlock all the pieces.
    Can you capture Class B and Class C ships in this game? Absolutely you can. But every ship (outside of UC military) I have captured has been poor at best. They might give you access to Class B and C ships early but what is on them isn't even worth keeping. In many cases they function worse than their Class A counter parts.
    Post edit: His cargo capacity is at 6880. That should be people's target by end game. If you are going to do any crafting and research you need access to resources and the one place you can always access when doing it is your home ship. So no matter what you intend to do with your ship, you need it to also play the role of freighter. Yes, you need a jack of all trades kind of ship. Which this ship design does very well.

    • @WizeOldWizard
      @WizeOldWizard  11 месяцев назад +3

      Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. Let’s make a few things clear though:
      I would highly recommend keeping at least one shielded cargo and a scan jammer on your ship at all times. Contraband is very valuable and at the end of the day, your ship is lacking function without them.
      6880 is ROUGHLY the maximum cargo capacity you can achieve with the Basilisk. Of course this number can vary if you save some weight in other places, but that is not the capacity I end with.
      For me personally, I only need about 6k total cargo, which means the ship only needs 4k total cargo because I now have rank 4 payloads.
      Thanks for the extra detail you’ve provided for everyone!

    • @WizeOldWizard
      @WizeOldWizard  11 месяцев назад +2

      @@ADrunkDillweed yes, but these stats do not dictate your top speed while boosting, or your acceleration rate.
      Also with the right skills and crew, your Class C can reach over 200 normal top speed...

    • @superdave8248
      @superdave8248 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@ADrunkDillweed Actually no. One and only Class C engine in the game has a max speed of 180. It is the SAL 6830. It also has a max power of 2 allowing for six engines total. This particular engine is quest locked. You have to complete a quest that is part of the main quest line and achieve a very specific outcome to even get it offered. I also believe it becomes available at only one location. Neon.
      I first gained access to this engine at level 39 so I don't even think it has a level requirement. Just a quest restriction.
      Many of the RUclips builders use this very engine in their builds because it allows for some very large construction options.
      I run a pretty heavy ship but I can confirm with six of these engines I have a max speed of over 160.
      Now with that said, these engines come with a massive price tag. 70k credits each. So just for the engines you are looking at needing 420k credits.

      @WizeOldWizard  6 месяцев назад +1

      Performance and design are of equal importance to me, inside and out. If a ship looks good but doesn’t perform well, then it may as well be a sculpture. Likewise, if a ship performs wonderfully but looks like a soggy turd, you won’t be proud and excited to get in the pilot’s seat and show the Settled Systems what you can do with it. I also take great care to lay out the interiors in a sensible way so that navigating the habs is easy.
      Everything that I have built (except for the Slab) is the result of a balanced approach where all aspects of the ship have been considered. Unless there is a specific reason to ignore the looks or the interior layout, nothing is an afterthought.
      Thanks for watching!

    Also for anyone wondering, you need about 1 landing thrust (or whatever they label it) for about every 200 kg of mass. A ship of 800 mass would need at the very minimum 4 landing thrust spread between its landing gears.

    • @WizeOldWizard
      @WizeOldWizard  11 месяцев назад

      The math ain’t mathin. At 3789 mass, my ship requires 10 landing gear with 1 thrust each. 3789/10 equals 378.9… I think 1 thrust can lift more than 200 mass, might be 400.

    Something I noticed from your previous version of this ship and now this current version is that you can modify the two VERY LARGE structural pieces to either side and right behind the cockpit on the top that are 3x1 structural pieces.
    You can remove these two pieces and replace them with either the curved or even the angular Cargo Hold pieces and add around 1000 cargo per 1x1 hold that you add.
    Additionally, go to the Red Mile, or the Key if you have it available, and get the upward angular shielded cargo and line the underbelly around the landing gear with them for an upward curving-ish form. You MAY have to replace the landing gear before you do this, but if you get the Nova Tech landing gear from the moon IO, they actually have the best lift and there's a variant that has top as well as left and right anchors for stuff.
    Finally, as for fuel, I find that two of the smaller fuel tanks provides more fuel than that great big monstrous one and you can plant it in the underbelly using the landing gear I suggested

      @WizeOldWizard  8 месяцев назад +1

      @albertcollins6317 if you’d like to achieve this, I have some suggestions for you but you’re going to have to fiddle with the builder a bit.
      First things first, please give my Aetos build a watch. In that one I show how to use the attachment method on controller so that you can more easily control the placement of doors and ladders.
      When you’re rebuilding the Basilisk with no ladders in mind, you’ll need to remove the lower engineering bay and replace the landing bay that I use with something that has a ladder-entry hatch.
      Build your entire lower deck first, using the attachment method, and be sure to attach the bridge only after you’re happy with the layout of your lower deck. Once you attach the bridge, build your entire upper deck, again using the attachment method, starting from the upper hatch of the bridge.
      The game still my want to place some ladders so that’s where your own fiddling and experimenting comes in.
      Best of luck, thanks for watching!

      Nice math, let's do some more using 3 poseidons vs 6 Sal engines
      Mass for building ship without engines 11600 x 3 / 12.35 - 3 x 334 = 1815 (poseidon) and 4275 - 330 x 6 = 2295 so
      Carrying/hull gain (2295 - 1815) / 1815 = 0.26 or 26 %
      Look at g force ratio or acceleration factor which main thrust over ship mass
      34520 x 3 / (11600 × 3 / 12.35) = 0.2409 (poseidon) and 18000 x 6 / (8800 x 6 / 12.35) = 0.1656 (sal)
      Acceleration gain (0.2409 - 0.1656) / 0.1656 = 0.45 or 45%
      You gain 45%:in acceleration (get to white optimal speed faster and stay in boosted longer) with loss of 26% hall, that's better engine for class c fighter

    I used your build and converted the Star Eagle using the great video. I did make a landing bay change, I used that wide mouth landing bay you get from Taiyo. You can get around using the ladder inside the ship. Once you board the ship via the ladder in the bay, you can go right up the stairs into the cockpit.

The very first thing I was going to do when I got to level 60 was get these engines. To keep my ship from looking absolutely stupid, I would have to add a lot of structure (mass). I thought I could address this by only adding four of them. What I found was that in order to outperform the six SA-4330s I already had, I would need five of the 6830s. I decided not to make the change.

      Actually, I tried that before I settled on three pilot weapon groups. When I replaced the rear turrets, I was much more efficient in combat, so I’ve stuck with it ever since. I use the Cabot bridge and make a 2 story build but make the lay out so there are no ladders except for the loading dock ladder. Can be done using Hope Tech hab spines and Hope Tech cross passages (or Nova cross passages) ... took inspiration from your first ship to do so.

    • @theonlysjc
      @theonlysjc 11 месяцев назад

      There's a video on here that explains it really well and if I can find it I will link it. The way you can make it work is if you use the hallways which are Hope Tech spines and Hope Tech passageways (or the Nova Galactic passageways) you can prevent ladders because the spines and hallways do not have attachment points on the top and bottom. The spines go north and south and the passageways go east and west so if you're smart with your layout you can still have access to all parts of your ship but only using the Cabot cockpit as your transfer from top to bottom. Also if you use Vasco on your ship he likes to clip through the floor and block the passages so I had to remove him from my crew.@@jackflash6377

      If you create each floor of habs, then move them as a unit onto the cockpit, the layout will have no ladders. I think the 1x1 companionways always force a ladder, so they might have to be left out or staggered.

      Definitely would love some more variation in hab interiors, especially some luxury stuff.
      Battleships are in the game and are SIGNIFICANTLY larger than the Basilisk. I fought the Camulus in the Aetos II build if you haven't seen it yet. UC Vigilance is another example of a battleship. Considering the Basilisk is a fraction of the size of those ships, it cannot be considered in the same class. It also has excellent mobility, so heavy fighter makes the most sense.
      Name it whatever you please when you build it of course, but it is still the Basilisk to the rest of the community. The Basilisk was originally built to be the Crimson Fleet's flagship, and even if it wasn't, I still personally would not label it as a UC ship. My character's RP is an independent pilot. Oz does not put all his loyalties into one basket, rather he gains what he can from any faction for his own gain. (I still like the Fleet over the other factions. More personality!)

The only time I have an issue is when I'm severely outnumbered. • @WizeOldWizard
      @WizeOldWizard  11 месяцев назад +2

      For access to Class C ships, you need to have the Piloting skill maxed at rank 4.
      For efficient leveling, I recommend building an outpost on Andraphon (a moon in the Narion system) and find a location that has iron, aluminum, and helium all within the outpost. Place as many extractors and storages as you can and sleep once you have it setup to let the resources fill up. Then craft Adaptive Frames at the Industrial Workbench until you reach rank 60. That is when all the ship modules become available to you.
      For credits, first and foremost loot and sell EVERYTHING. Crimson Fleet missions from the mission boards pay well. Sell those Adaptive Frames you crafted! Mine Plutonium and sell it (you'll have to find a good location for that, I've not done this myself).
      I will be making guides for all these in the future, but I'm just one guy and I only have so much time. Thanks for your patience and support!

    Good sir you are missing aspects of the engine. Maneuvering thrust details. When youi ise thrusters ti go different detections and the regilar engine thrust is how much mass can be pulled, si regilar thrust and mass dictates mobility and top speed. Manuvering is how fast you turn, mass also affects acceleration based on regular thrust from engines.

    • @WizeOldWizard
      @WizeOldWizard  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for your comment but based on my testing results, what you are implying is not correct. The 6330 engines each have 1000 less maneuvering thrust than the 6830’s. Max achievable mass was 3789, but when I upgraded to the 6830, I was able to increase mass to 4275 before losing mobility. Considering both engines have identical normal thrust, it is the maneuvering thrust that matters.
      Not throwing shade, I just want to make sure my viewers have the correct information!

    Great video to show the difference in setups. Here's a question: If you have 6 engines, but only power them to 50%, is it the exact same as having only 3 engines? Or does it retain the mobility of 6 engines and only the speed is reduced? I have built a similar ship using 4 engines, but I'm curious if having 6 would increase mobility even when they aren't fully powered?
    Also, what I did to ensure I had no ladders in my Cabot build was to build/arrange the entire second level of habs separately, then moved the whole thing into place. At least that worked for me. The game still likes to create a zig zag of habs, but at least there are no ladders (I use the side bay and my dock connects on the bottom of the ship).
