Dude, it took a lot of balls for you to stick to your guns with your channel like you did during the time period with the online narrative surrounding Starfield. Its clearly a passion project for you and I have a feeling its going to start paying off big time. You deserve it. Cheers.

If this channel doesn’t work out with doing ship videos for only Starfield, he could always expand to cover other video games that rely heavily on ship designing. If didn’t know any better, I’d swear Bethesda did a copy and paste of Rebel Galaxy’s ship building mechanics with how its weapons also focus on ballistic, laser and particle beam weaponry, shields and other ship components. That game is a blast to play (pun intended) with its wide variety of ships, armaments and factions.

@@whendarknessfalls6969nah. There's a lot of valid criticism of the game, side stuff that doesn't feel fleshed out and actual downgrades to previous Bethesda games, but I feel like that got almost lost under the mass of reactionary attention hoes who whined about the game simply because it was the hip thing to do at that time.

New player here. I first watched this video when I was about fifty hours into the game. Currently at around 300 hours and playing NG+. This is probably my fifth time watching. Learned so much, saved hours and countless credits. I watched other ship building vids but this is far and away the best. Gave me all I needed to build the perfect ship for my needs. Very grateful. Thanks for an excellent tutorial. And I don't care what anyone says...Starfield is a great game. Regards.

For anyone keeping the Nova aesthetic, you can grab a cockpit with more storage capacity and identical appearance from the Nova Shipyard. It has a better storage to mass ratio than any of the storage modules, so it's a great place to start when increasing storage capacity. It's also available right away without needing any points in Ship Design.

Another DPS related comment would be regarding turrets: when having both, turret AND particle beam skills fully maxed, turrets become the strongest weapon type by far since they will basically stack both perks on top of each other instead of only gaining the benefits of one weapon type.
And also, great video, there isn’t much quality starfield content out there, so it’s always nice to see some really well made and researched videos.

    • @mirandela777
      @mirandela777 7 месяцев назад +1

Not really, manual targeting is far more effective, turrets miss a lot of shots, are bugged ( sometimes won't fire at all ! ) and, to be fair, one only needs 2 sets of weapons : anti-shield and kinetics, for hull damage. Worst, turrets canno be used for boarding purpose, when is a delicate balance between too much damage or too less.
Particle weapons are way too OP and kill all the fun.

For best power to weight ratio I like the B39 reactor with the White Dwarf 3015 engines. Build a fast light weight fighter for space battles and a big heavy cargo ship for hauling cargo. I have a Space Truck built to haul 20K cargo and a fighter with minimum cargo. The smaller ship will take on all the cargo of the big ship when you use it as your home ship. You cant add cargo when using it, however you can add a small amount to the captains locker.

I agree with you about available funds, and also consider that some of these early upgrades require skill points in the Piloting or Starship Design skills, which you may not desire at an early character level depending on your play style. If you focus solely on ship building, it is doable, but understand that may not be the highest priority.

Really enjoyed the thorough research - and timely. Just came back for a new NG and I had been following an admixture of my old methods and (early release) bad advice. Not sure I will ever move fully to auto-weapons only loadout. I really like the Disruptor 3300 early game, since I tend toward faster, smaller ship designs. The range and damage are great as well as the fire rate when fully powered. And it's great to have confirmation that the Vanguard Autoprojector is worth the time investment. Thanks for the great video.

Extremely well-produced, cohesive, and detailed guide. Very well done!
There’s only one thing I disagree with you about, which is that Class C engines are not only useful for cargo hauling ships. I really like the 6830’s because I DO care about the mobility stat. If you want to build a ship with up to roughly 7,000 cargo and still have full turning speed, then the 6830’s are basically the only choice. This was the premise of the Citadel. Now it definitely requires careful management of direction change and momentum because it is very slow to change direction at anything over a 90 degree turn. But, despite the mass of the ship it still doesn’t need turrets to be effective in combat. It’s my only ship that still has the triple PB weapon groups though, as I have lately been using the Hellfires as group three. The Citadel definitely needs the range advantage.
By the way I watched the whole video, and again, great job! Nobody dives as deeply into this stuff in their content and it is all extremely useful. Cheers man!

Thank you so much for the kind words!
I agree with you, and understand I’m a bit harsh on the SAL-6830’s. They certainly cannot be beat for their maneuvering thrust and impact on that Mobility stat.

I consider myself close to an expert as far as ship design is concerned, but you still taught me a lot! This is an excellent guide for both newcomers and experienced pilots.
I might advise against jumping right into the class C reactors off the bat, as there are a lot of other good places to put those initial perk points. The extra power is nice, but not strictly necessary, and you do pay for it in mass. That said, the reactor's definitely worth the investment.
I really love ship building theory and experimenting. There are tons of options and approaches, and very few bad choices. This is without even getting into how the interiors can be optimized. It's a fantastic system, and I really appreciate you taking the time and consideration to dive into it.

  • @vitriolicAmaranth
    @vitriolicAmaranth 4 месяца назад +6

Ship class is definitely misleading. By the end of ng, I had a souped-up maxed-out class c and was disappointed when it didn't carry over. But by ng+10, I was using a class b reactor with class a engines because I worked that out to be optimal. I realized my "maxed-out" ng ship had been clunky and hard to maneuvre and all around kind of bad. What C does better than B is slightly better weapons, 1 more blip of power (wow!!), and the only important thing, engines that can drive more mass (a lot of which is taken up by the reactor itself, but it still significantly increases your effective carry weight).
One of the biggest disappointments for me was that followers can't pilot your other ships, so past the early game when you don't know where to go for good free ships from quests and you randomly encounter an Ecliptic ship and it's like 3 times as good as the Frontier and has parts you can't even buy yet, there's no point in expanding your fleet or building different specialized ships. Unless you're a psychopath you'll be flying around in your one jack of all trades ship and incrementally upgrading it. There isn't even a hangar whrre you can display your other ships, like FO4 power armour. Big missed opportunity.

Good guide. I like to keep the look of the Frontier as original as possible. So only the original module for example. I change the engines to the white dwarfs 2030s as soon as possible, and I change the reactor to Class B, the shield (bulwark) and the weaponry class A vanguard plasma weapons. Cargo is a bit tough if you want to use that ship primarily, but it works out. So far I have had no engagement that I couldnt win with ease, even on higher difficulties.

Amazing video man. This corrects so much wrong information about how the attributes for the different parts ACTUALLY affect your ship performance. You're the first person doing shipbuilding or component comparison videos that I've seen that actually understands how it all works.
Nobody else even bothers to test how different components actually perform in practice, or bother to look at things like what the ratios of power usage or mass are in relation to the relevant attributes of the parts.

Love seeing those Poseidon engines. People always go on about the Slayton 6830's having the top mass before losing mobility, but they're heavy as heck, expensive as heck, and just plain large and annoying to look at.
As an alternative to ramping up engines and generators as you level up, you can access them at level 1 by purchasing a customized ship. E.g. the War Horse(A gen) or Norwhal(C gen) in Neon, at the lander or Taiyo HQ respectively.

I have to echo a large percentage of the previous comments but this is a great video. This showed me how to do what I wasn't able to do on my own and do appreciate it. Since you made this, I wanted you to know that the White Star(?) engines you suggested for 1-10 players is now hidden behind the Starship Design skill :(. Also I was unable to find the slim docking ring you used as well. Not sure if this is user-error (most likely the case) or if the dev's decided to remove it (no idea why). It was the same with the Hab you suggested but maybe due to the expansion things were overhauled.
Regardless - this is a fantastic video and I have been enjoying your other build videos as well. Here's to hoping that these comments help boost your channel in the algo.

I forgot to mention, not sure why, that I did build a separate tool that tells you the best parts for any character and skill level.

@@ShipTechnician I saw that! I'm a sucker for spreadsheets and plan to do a deep dive at some point.
Right now I'm just wanting a basic all arounder to get through the game and NG+ for the achievements on Xbox so I'm ready when the DLC comes

Awesome video, really aids the understanding of ship components and assembly. Alas, I happily went on a parts buying spree.....but didn't have enough credits. So off to make some money.

Upgrade around the reactor. My ship of choice is Class B. I have a compact little ship that is perfect for my play style. It is only 4x1x3. I started with the Rambler. It was the cheapest ship available. I kept nothing. At level 20 I disassembled it, bought the best reactor available, and replaced EVERY part. Then at level 40 I replaced the reactor again and did massive changes. At level 60 I did it again.

Excellent as always! There is just no need for coloring inside the lines in ship building.

It would be awesome if you could constantly upgrade your ship to be megalithic sizes like and have more and more crew members who have storylines to add to the timeline. All dependent on when they come into the picture, also more cities on every planet and on more planets.

Love you videos, thx so much for sharing your knowledge! Any chance I can convince you to do a Ranger Eagle upgrade video? I love the ship, but I'm still unsure of how best to customize it... Thx again for the videos!
