Thanks for a great, time saving, video. I only had one recommendation, if you ever edit this procedure. I removed the air box completely, and it made a great location to place the overflow reservoir/wiper fluid tank without having to undo ANY tubes or sensor connections. Hence, no wiper fluid loss, or potential broken connectors with those goofy safety latches. The air box is easily removed by loosening the main snorkel tube hose clamp, removing both the snorkel and breather tubes from the box, and then lifting the box out of the engine bay. With that gone, the reservoir(s) can just be rotated up into the empty space. Hope this might help someone downstream from here.
I'm not much of a mechanic but this video was perfect. Everything went as outlined in the video and I was able to do it without any problems. Thank you very much!
But you have to start somewhere, right? We're happy to be a part of the learning process with you, John! Thanks for watching and good luck on all your future repairs! 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
Great video, only thing you missed was the bleeding procedure. Most Rams has a bleed allen screw port located at the outter end of the upper radiator hose. After filling your radiator, remove screw and start and run the vehicle until fluid runs clear at this port, once all the bubbles are gone reinstall allen screw and you're done.
Well documented video with clear instructions, good lighting and angles. Thank you for sharing how to unlock the plastic clips, we need more people who document these.

Your videos have helped me so much with my Dodge Ram. I'm Pop Up Vegan Pizzeria that works out of a tent. My truck is a key tool in my business. When something goes wrong I can always depend on your videos and there so detail with crystal clear direction. I can't thank you enough 🙏🙏🙏🙏
1:37 Sorry but it's laughable how you can loosen the fan bolt with just one single light tap of the hammer. I had to use an air hammer for half an hour to get mine off.
1A Auto makes the best videos. This video helped a lot. It did take a lot more then a hammer and wrench to get off my fan. I had to buy a fan remover tool. But other then that it was smooth sailing. Thanks guys and keep it up. 👍🏼
This video was amazing and saved me a lot of time and money. Thank you so much for posting it. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for more of your videos when I need to work on my 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 and any other of my vehicles. I really liked the cardboard screw diagram idea. Glad to hear that it was helpful for you! Yeah, arranging your screws, nuts, or bolts in the same pattern that they will be reinstalled in is always a good idea, but not too many of us think to do it. It's one of those things you pick up along the way I guess. Anyway, thanks for checking out the video and we hope we'll be able to continue to help you out in the future! 1aauto.com 866-403-3393

you madde cracking that fan nut look so easy, I just wish it was that easy in real life, I tried many times and no dice, look like I need to order the tool.
That was a very informative and extremely well done video. Sure wish I could find one just like it for my 2002 and up Dodge Ram truck with the 5.9 gas engine in it. The 2002 evidently had a mid year change over and mine is the one that is the newer body style crew cab or 4 door, not the clam shell style doors, 1/2 ton 4x4 truck with air conditioning and auto transmission.
Thanks for the video! The pipe wrench trick didn’t work for me after battling with it for 45min. Went to AutoValue and rented the fan clutch spreader bar and wrench. Took me 2 seconds to take the fan clutch off. Rental was free.
The greatest video ever. ! All of your videos are very helpful with all the right information. One thing I might add was how much antifreeze you might need to refill the radiator and the overflow tank. But this video was very helpful and I was successful at changing my water pump using this video.
Great video…one of my heater core pipes sprung a leak and of course that means the whole water pump has to go.. your video made it easy.. I had to make a tool for the fan as the tensioner trick didn’t work for me, where everything was apart I replaced the thermostat and replaced the belt as well. The video made it easy and needed to Paulse on it for the belt touting. Thanks for sharing!!
Great Video but is it possible to remove the radiator fan shroud before removing the fan blade? It looks like it could make removing the fan blade easier. Also, where is the weep hole located on this type of water pump? Thanks
I know it's been 7 months but I had trouble taking the fan clutch off so I took off the bolts that hold the fan and I was able to scoot the fan blade over and pull the shroud off 👍🏻
Very nice video. I like the clutch removal. A big crescent wrench did it! Be sure to check that the fan is in good shape as well as tensioner pulley. I'm not sure how important this is but when you install your thermostat, there is a little bleeder valve to position upward. Saw that in another video. It does take a while for tstat to open when starting back up and everything to bleed out and heat start working. I drove a bit and keep opening radiator cap to let air escape. I did install the $5 gasket between the pump and tstat housing, I don't think it can hurt. I also applied general purpose black adhesive sealant around the water pump. I think it can only help seal things up if you're worried.
Thermostat has a small brass nipple called the jiggle valve. It need to be at the highest point of the waterpump when installing. This acts as a bleeder valve for this vehicle.
+Darryl Miller That's what we're all about! Glad to hear we've been able to help out. For anyone else who might be doing this job, we carry the parts shown in the video on our website. Order from us and we'll cover the shipping. Here's a link: www.1aauto.com?RUclips&CTA%20Comment&ATony
The bolt located behind the power steering pump has to go in with the pump assembly. It won't go in after all the other bolts are in. That same bolt will not come out on its own and has to be left in and removed with the pump.

Very very very helpful thank you question does a 2006 ram Mega cab has a relay for the condenser fan it seems that nobody knows that the RAM 1500 Mega cab the parts you buy have to be for a Ram 2500 sometimes it confusing plz help
Great video. Only question is why put the shroud on before the fan? Also for some reason I thought the thermost was at the bottom of the engine. I guess not.... or are there 2? I have a 2006 4.7L
At the end of the video you said let it run the bubbles out so I filled the radiator the expansion tank was already full I let it run and topped off but it kept running dry in the radiator do I add more or wait for the expansion tank to even it out
Excellent instruction video. Everything very clear . Taking that fan off was murder before I saw your simple method. A lot of profanity was avoided following the way you did it.Many thanks

Hey, I used this video to swap my water pump, everything went smoothly. The problem I have now is the upper hose is spitting a bit. From the radiator side of it. Should I double clamp it? I have a brand new upper hose on it but it's still like a little sprinkler, loosing maybe 1/16 in the reserve tank a week.
Two questions, how much do you guys sell the water pump for 2004 5.7 hemi, I understand it has a life time warranty, the other question is the torque, you mentioned 18ft/lb but many other sources on the internet states 30ft/lb can you please confirm the torques for 2004 hemi 5.7 thanks
I really like this step by step. I just can't break the fan nut loose from the water pump. I used the tensioner, but there's too much coolant on everything. Any recommendations on what else to try to break it free??
+Jason Haugen Thanks for checking us out! If possible, try to dry everything with a towel so the wrench gets a solid hold. You could also use another person to try and help with this. If you can raise the vehicle that may also give you better leverage to use a smaller wrench.
I’m currently doing this idk if anyone with answer in time but I also replaced my belt tensioner and it looks like same with the pre loaded pin, they didn’t remove it so idk if they missed that part or it’s okay to leave it like that ?
My timing chain cover gasket on my 06 Dodge 4.7 is leaking water to the outside. I am going to order the Felpro 46000 gasket. Do I have to use sealant with this gasket. Also do I use any other O rings in addition? Thanks you.
SUPER excellent video, one of the best step by step explanation type of videos, thank you so much, 1A Auto you guys are the best 😉👍, take care blessings.
Do not use regular green antifreeze in these, they take HOAT coolant 50/50 mix (of course). Best HOAT stuff I've found that I use in mine is Zerex G-05, sold at AutoZone and Amazon.
The only thing I will add is if your thermostat has a small weep hole in it, this would go up so as to help burp air from the system..excellent video..
Please update with magic trick that makes the centre bracket between AC compressor and alternator disappear, exposing the 15 mmeter bolt The 2nd 15 mm bolt.
Your comment saved me the headache dude, I took all the bolts off but the pump wasn't coming off I knew there was something holding it but I couldn't see but then I saw your comment and there it was hiding 😂😂
I have a 2011 5.7 Hemi Ram. I want to do a simple flush & fill of the coolant. My fill bottle is at the front of the truck & is black plastic. I can't tell how much coolant to put in as I see no high or low mark. How do I keep from over or under filling it. Thanks
I went to do this job today. Bought the duralast water pump from autozone. Got everything disassembled and went to put the new duralast water pump in, but the mold/casting must have been bad because there was NO way that i could get all 11 bolt holes lined up. Any way that I started it, only 4 or 5 bolt holes would line up. Some of the casting holes were off a good 1/4" and I was not about to start drilling/over sizing holes on a new waterpump housing just to get the bolts in. I was pretty damn pist off because this was supposed to be a simple repair. Instead I had to put the oem water pump BACK on the truck so that I could drive it, and next I will have to return the badly built pump to autozone. Looks like I am starting from square 1 again. I will probably just find a new/oem Dodge ram one instead. One that doesn't have a bad casting/mold. This stinks. What a waste of 3 hours.
The pipe wrench worked for removing the fan but at first the belt kept slipping. I wedge a sponge in between the belt and the pulley and that worked after several attempts.
Great video! Just wrapped up my water pump install. Fan bolt was so seized I sawzall'd that fucker off, bought a new clutch, gotter done. Saved almost a G! Cheers from Alberta
+Jose Cayama We don't have a how-to video for your vehicle right now, but the basic steps in this video should be enough to do this task. Buy this part for your vehicle on 1AAuto.com: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
I took the radiator plug out of my radiator to drain and the fluid came out the of tge plug area nit tge spigot on the bottom of the radiator. Now I put the plug back in and started to fill with coolant and now its coming out if the spigot with the plug in. Any ideas what to do or whats the problem?
I was wondering if you can just replace the black steel tube for the heater core that's on the water pump or does pump need to be replaced. My tube is rusted out . I know it's a old video but if someone could help thanks
I have a 04 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 and I can take off the fan shroud with the windshield fluid tank without taking off the fan clutch. Without scraping my radiator fins. I have way more room to do everything. Just a tip for people with the same vehicle.
Ived had 2 water pumps in about 3 years time take a crap on me. Theres a some sort of plug on top where the metal is pop can thin. Thats where it starts to leak from. Why?
I have a 03 5.7l is it normal for the bolt down by the steering pulley to be a pain to get out. almost seemed like I was going to have to pull the pulley.
+Jason Spellich They can definitely be tough. That's an area that gets really hot at opperating temp. so it's common that the bolts get tough to remove since they're constantly expanding and shrinking with temperature. Try soaking it in penetrating oil and letting it sit for a couple of hours before coming back to it. Then, soak it again and try to remove. A 50/50 blend of ATF and Acetone makes for a great penetrating oil, fyi. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com?RUclips&CTA%20Comment&ATony 866-403-3393
1A Auto Parts wasn't a problem breaking free but pulling it out there didn't seem to be enough clearance to pull it out. Had to leave it dangling in the pump and pulled it out with the pump.

Having a hard time removing fan, any suggestions
The pipe wrench worked for removing the fan but at first the belt kept slipping. I wedge a sponge in between the belt and the pulley and that worked after several attempts.
Question: 180 degree or the 203 degree thermostat?
Can you just replace the pulley or do you have replace the whole water pump
Great video! Just wrapped up my water pump install. Fan bolt was so seized I sawzall'd that fucker off, bought a new clutch, gotter done. Saved almost a G! Cheers from Alberta
Thank you for all your help and videos. Will this apply to a 2012? Or do you have video for that years? Thank you
+Jose Cayama We don't have a how-to video for your vehicle right now, but the basic steps in this video should be enough to do this task. Buy this part for your vehicle on 1AAuto.com: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c

Thank you very much! It was my first project to do by myself on my work truck thanks for the guidance..
Is this the same for a 2011 5.7 hemi?
What if I dnt have heat because my heater core crapped out? How can I or do I still need to bleed the system?
I was wondering if you can just replace the black steel tube for the heater core that's on the water pump or does pump need to be replaced. My tube is rusted out . I know it's a old video but if someone could help thanks
I have a 04 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 and I can take off the fan shroud with the windshield fluid tank without taking off the fan clutch.
Without scraping my radiator fins.
I have way more room to do everything.
Just a tip for people with the same vehicle.
Howcome when I did all that and replaced the fan clutch now it's making like a loud fan noise?
Great video.. very informative thank you
Ived had 2 water pumps in about 3 years time take a crap on me. Theres a some sort of plug on top where the metal is pop can thin. Thats where it starts to leak from. Why?
So do I need to remove the fan and radiator if I’m doing it from the ground beneath the truck ?
How much coolant is needed to fill it up?
This is an EXCELLENT video. Thank you 1AAuto👌🏾
Could you remove the water pump without having to take the radiator fan off and just replace the radiator fan with the new water pump?
I have a 03 5.7l
is it normal for the bolt down by the steering pulley to be a pain to get out. almost seemed like I was going to have to pull the pulley.
1aauto.com?RUclips&CTA%20Comment&ATony 866-403-3393

wasn't a problem breaking free but pulling it out there didn't seem to be enough clearance to pull it out. Had to leave it dangling in the pump and pulled it out with the pump.
+Jason Spellich Oh yeah, that sort of thing happens all the time. No biggie!
Yes that bolt barely cleared for me. Had to tap it a little to slide by when reinstalling
For the torque specs I've seen guys say 18, 20, and 21 Ft Lb why the variation? and are these torque specs OEM?
