Someone told me now was the best time to buy a vehicle because Dealers are hurting. I went to Mazda, Hyundai and Ford. As enthusiastic as they were to really want to sell and treat you like royalty, they STILL would not agree to a reasonable monthly payment. Had the manager for Mazda and Ford follow us outside as we were leaving asking “what can we do so you can walk away with a vehicle today?” And I was like “Do you guys listen to yourselves?! LOWER THE PRICE to meet my monthly payment. I said it 50 times!” And one dude was shooting numbers that were nowhere near it. The guy at Ford was blocking my door from closing because he Knew I really wanted to buy. But if they wanna Sell so bad then why not just LOWER the damn price. Better than keep the car, let it depreciate and sell it for 40% less than what I’m willing to pay Now. It makes no damn sense. I KNOW they’re hurting and I could’ve really went for the jugular but I was literally only asking for no more than 9k off a vehicle and like 8k off another. They could’ve pulled a made up rebate out their ass or cut out some of the dealer fees. EVEN if they took a loss, a car off the lot they mark as sold gives them Manufacturer incentives and bonuses. Look at Jeep. They became so god damn stingy and greedy, especially with their Wranglers fanbase, that when sales were bad they were STILL stingy. Now they’re knocking 12k off the price tags with made up rebates, something they could’ve done before. Now with the burden of bankruptcy and longevity, nobody is gonna want to go near them even with cut prices. They could’ve Avoided all of this if they were competitive. Instead they charged 50k for a base wrangler that is build to be extremely basic with nothing premium, even putting rubber hooks to hold the hood down, bragging its to keep the Jeep nostalgic. They been riding that greedy narrative to dummy fan boys for decades while charging a premium. Cars will be flying and Wranglers will still have an mpg of 14 with basic audio for 60k. Some brands just have to finally get shot in the leg to really understand the world is changing and greed will put them under.

Plain and simple, they have out priced themselves, and people have spoken. We can not afford a second mortgage, basically. I'm 63 now, and I only paid $ 34900.00 for my home with 2 acres with a ranch style house and a 2-car detached garage. WHY would I pay double for a car or even more for a pickup truck? There are too many unneeded assorys that are (NOT) needed like heated and ac seats, heated steering wheel, power everything, a TV screen in the middle of the dash that's the size of a laptop that's more distracting than your damn cell which by the way is linked to your phone the list goes on and on. Don't get me wrong, those are great options. However, you don't have to have them all as standard features. That's why you can't sell them too many options. Go back to making basic cars & trucks with options to purchase as ad ons. Look, vehicles are made for one thing, getting from point a to point b, that's all. Yes, some people can afford and want all their features. Not everyone makes a million dollars a year. We need basic transportation, that's it , go to work and come home. And some make a living in their vehicles all day every day. I never thought I'd live to see the day when a pickup truck cost 100k +. I guess I was wrong in 1986. You could buy a loaded f150 Lariat new for about 10 to 12k. I know I bought one, and the saddest part is in 5 to 7 years it's only worth half if you're lucky, worst investment one can make. At least a home will appriat in time most vehicles never do that, and before everyone starts haten on me there are exceptions to that I well aware but it takes 50 years or more for that to happen and it's a crap shoot on guessing which one will make big $. Well, that my 2 cents worth.

Truck was very affordable for me, I was also single and renting then. Today that same truck is $80K and the payments on that truck would be more than my house payment. I have a six figure salary but I now also have a wife and kids too to support. When vehicles come with a price tag a middle class family can afford they will start selling again. Looking at an inflations calculator at worst condition that F150 should now cost $40K. inflation has doubled since 1997 not quadrupled.

Also, it doesn't help that new vehicles are basically computers on wheels making them complicated and expensive to repair and maintain. I used to be a hardcore Jeep Guy. I’ve had several XJ Cherokees, a used Liberty and Wrangler. But, the saying for Jeep as Just Empty Every Pocket has never been more true! My last new car purchase in the United States was the 2019 Nissan Frontier. At the time I got a fully loaded Pro-4x for 38k and a very base model soft top Gladiator was 45k! These were my out the door prices. If you look at current prices they were just pricing them that high taking advantage of the early adopters. That’s fine, I’ll be happy opening my sunroof for that price! And if you look at overseas prices they are still significantly more then other parts of the world! I moved to New Zealand this year where cars are significantly cheaper! Jeep wanted 82k NZD (49k USD as of Aug 2024) for a new Gladiator Rubicon! Significantly cheaper and on my radar, but I bought the Ford Ranger Tremor. A fully off road ready variant available in Oceana that I paid 69k NZD! ($41,500 USD Aug 2024) 8k price difference is hard to ignore. There is no hidden surprises in the finance office in New Zealand thank goodness. No way I’d bought either of these new in the USA. Jeep wanted 65k USD and Ford wanted 51k for roughly the same vehicle at the time. Ouch, I’d kept my Nissan if I hadn’t moved! I still love Jeeps but they’ve simply put them outside of an affordable price range. I just can’t justify the cost of the Jeep when I can get another 4wd equipped vehicle significantly cheaper!

This car would need a key to drive, and to lock it. It would have buttons on the dashboard so anyone in the family can easily drive it. It would be designed such that if the car had damage in an accident, it would be easier and cheaper to repair and replace body parts. Do away with pricey options.
