Before you do all of this, BE SURE TO CHECK THE GROUNDS. You must sand the frame to bare metal and sand the leads until copper shows. I wish I had done this three hours ago.
Yeah they do. I would visit them with this video. I would ask them for $400 back. Or I will review you on every review site available and report you to the BBB.
Is that why Service 4WD light comes on at random? Sometimes it works but not when that light comes on. After sometime, it goes out and then it works again.
So I replaced actuator and switch, now truck goes into 4wd no problem, 4hi and 4low. Only problem is when I go from 2wd to Auto it blinks for a little before going into auto and then gives me “Service 4 wheel drive” message on dash. But it stays in auto and will go into 4hi and 4low no problem. I’ve tried disconnecting the battery but still does it when I switch from 2wd to Auto.
So, uhhh, did anyones actuator like, melt in the housing? The part that threads in is melted and ruined in mine. I cracked the entire actuator trying to loosen it. So now I have no clue how to put in the new one.
2000 GMC Sierra 1500 push bottom 4x4 switch doesn’t light up and nothing happens when I push hi or low any idea if it’s the switch ,encoder or actuator
+classicxl We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
The switch on your dash went bad. Common Chevy 4x4 problem. If it’s not that. There is a ground on the driver side to the left of the radiator that needs to be cleaned. You can do a quick google search and find it. If not those then proceed to the actuator
I have a 2012 chevy silverado 1500 i put my tuck in 4 low to pull out of my yard after it rained. when i got out of the yard i put the truck in neutral and back in 2 wheel drive but it was stuck in 4 low. i play around with it backing up after about 5 minutes it went back in 2 wheel drive. it did this a couple times. would the Front Axle Actuator be my problem?
+Paul Abner Thanks for watching! There are multiple things that could cause you issue, and if you are unsure we recommend you have a trusted garage take a look at the vehicle. That way you get an accurate diagnosis the first time! 1aauto.com
Would this cause the abs, traction control, and trailer break lights to be on and say service them all on my dash and my 4 wheel won’t lock in it will for a second then pop back out and be in 2 wheel drive
I don't know what you're taking about. These trucks/suvs are super easy to work on compared to other foreign cars and trucks. There are very few things that are actually difficult to get at.
+dirt2595 Thanks for checking us out! It most certainly wouldn't hurt to get that changed as well. With both of these being brand new you wont have to worry about changing the old switch after the new actuator is installed, this will save some time in the long run. 1aauto.com
Don't listen to 1Aauto, these guys are NOT mechanics and they just want you to throw parts at it. Get the proper scan tool to diagnose things and save yourself money and headaches.
A failed acuauator would it casue the dash switch to run vary hot and a ocassional pop/clunk from the front end like it's engaging and dissconnect as i drive in 4wd high at between 40-80km/h ?

I really miss the old 4wd stick shifter🥺

I love these videos make everything look easy... I have been fighting this for hours.. Channel Locks Pipe wrenches etc. this #*%$ wont loosen!
Holy crap - I paid the dealer $600 to do this. Makes me feel like they rip people off. My stupidity. Good video.
Yeah they do. I would visit them with this video. I would ask them for $400 back. Or I will review you on every review site available and report you to the BBB.
Thanks for the video. In return I bought the actuator from 1A.
Thank again guys y’all are the best !!!
You're supposed to put Teflon tape on the threads. Don't over tighten.
Honestly the only video I need from you guys is how to replace a Chevy avalanche transfer case range sensor. Can’t find any video of that
+Justin We do not have a video for this repair right now, but we'll keep this request in mind for a future video! 1AAuto.com
1A Auto Parts appreciate it that helpes a lot! Thanks for reading my comment
How do i know when this go bad?
when your 4wd slips or won't go in 4wd.....
Is that why Service 4WD light comes on at random? Sometimes it works but not when that light comes on. After sometime, it goes out and then it works again.
my trucks stuck in 4wd. i’m being told it’s the actuator. do you think replacing the actuator would fix my problem.
Hey did you find out if this worked? I’m currently stuck in 4lo
Do the actuators go bad or act intermittently then go bad? Should I use dielectric grease on the electrical connectors?
Mine was intermittent, I wouldn't put grease on the connector as it will attract dirt and debris
Will it hurt your truck to run it without the actuator plugged in I I replaced my actuator my truck still jumps in to four-wheel drive
You guys are great
+david sherrill Thanks for checking us out. 1aauto.com
Do you need to reset the codes because mine still showing 4 wheel drive service
try disconnecting your negative from the battary for few mins
@@riverrivers250 This worked for me on my 2004
My question is what if it aint the actuator what other problems can i trace this is on 12/16/2021 thank you
would a bad actuator click when the truck is rolling sometimes?
Check your u joints and CV axles

So if that work on my 2500hd duramax GMC what elses well be the problem
+Ty Anderson We would suggest consulting with a reputable local mechanic to determine what the problem is with your vehicle. 1aauto.com
I just tried to do this in mine will not screw in for some reason but my old one will screw back in but my new one will not I just don't get it
So after replacing the actuator the 4x4 light still comes on while I'm in 2wd and driving and makes a grinding noise. What else could the issue be ?
Do you find what was causing that noise?
Is there supposed to be oil coming out once you remove the actuator??
yes its grease.
So, uhhh, did anyones actuator like, melt in the housing? The part that threads in is melted and ruined in mine. I cracked the entire actuator trying to loosen it. So now I have no clue how to put in the new one.
Wow, that's a lot simpler design than my Ford F-150 vacuum actuated hubs

DO DEM CHANOL locks has to be metric ? 🤪😁
My service 4 wheel drive light came on today and now I can't switch into 4 hi or lo on dash.. would bad actuator cause these symptoms?
Did you switch it and did it work same problem for me
i had this same problem and was wondering this as well
Did it work??? Anyone??
Have the same problem, did this work?
Doing mine now we will see
Thank you that’ll be $110 lol
Would this cause the abs, traction control, and trailer break lights to be on and say service them all on my dash and my 4 wheel won’t lock in it will for a second then pop back out and be in 2 wheel drive
+Jacob Springer If this part is bad, the truck might not engage into 4WD corectly.
@jacobspringer did you ever figure out what was causing your issue.. mine is doing exactly as you described
Show's name?
Why isn't everything on this truck that easy to replace?
I don't know what you're taking about. These trucks/suvs are super easy to work on compared to other foreign cars and trucks. There are very few things that are actually difficult to get at.
So is it best to change 4x4 Switch along with the actuator? My button works funky and it shows “service 4x4”. I have an 04

+jimmy James It may cause a situation where the vehicle is not engaging all of the way. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
It does this on mine too... also randomly the front diff chaps around a corner and then CLUNK, it frees up... not sure if this is the problem...
