  • Song + Enter for demo. The batteries are at full but screen is barely visible. the screens on these units are sort of notorious for getting hard to see over time, I need to look into if this can be fixed somehow.

    I like all these drum machines.
    They should make them again with control of envelopes and modulation, effects etc.At sn affordable price.
    Impossible but I can at least imagine it !!
    I have the Boss DR 880 too just to get away from the computer.
    Thanks

      I totally agree that zoom should get back into making drum machines! They never really got over the arq series as a failure it seems and put theor priorities elsewhere, but we can hope!

    Just had one dropped off to me mint. She was cool ands said it only was played with for a couple of hours. interesting drum device. Have you synced it to other machines yet? If so hows the midi on this thing?

      I generally connect the zoom machines in simpler MIDI setups, no issues there. I do like that you can put separate kits/bass on different channels for being externally controlled as I prefer using external sequencer (korg electribe 2) and setting up the sounds i want on the rt-323, and then running it thru fx like distortion for that over the top sleigh bells drum sound. Out of all the machines I am familiar with from this era the Alesis SR-18 and Zoom RT-323 are pretty much the best. It is a shame this era was sort of a end state, no company has really been pushing drum machines like this since. all we get is pocket operators. I definitely prefer the ergo key setup of the zoom to alesis though.

      @@DjDoggDad Right. I'll be using the RK008 or the mpc1000 to sequence the RT's sounds. I just saw one locally for less than a hundred bucks and in perfect condition so I said, why not. Trying to figure out if it has good midi timing because I read somewhere about a Zoom drum machine falling way short in regards to midi sync? Hopefully this unit is not that model? Ya I would agree with that erra being the goods for drum machines. I've got a bunch of them. Recently picked up an RX5 and an R50. The RX5 is very cool. I ordered the RX5USB card for the Yamaha and it came preloaded with a 808 and 909 kit. The cool thing about that card is you can loead your own sounds via PC or Mac running an emulator. The RX5 is rad. Recomended before it becomes a ton of money. People are catching on quick. Cool video.

      @@morganwebster6636 I keep my midi setups small or fairly well controlled on whats talking to what so jitter hasnt personally been an issue with the zooms for me, the only thing thats had midi issues for me is my (modern) roland gear. I have also wondered if internal dead batteries are causing sync issues as these machines are over a decade old now. Using the USB expansion to give more life into the RX5 is super neat, i always approve of keeping old hardware going 👍

      I thought they only had silver and translucent blue for the 323, you could always disassemble and paint the shell to whatever color!

      I just bought one here in Germany for €60. Actually I had the same one about eight years ago, when I went through about four or five drum machines and I’m back to this one, again sr 16 was nice but no battery and I hated the screen. So here we are.

      @@MrChopemup I've only recently discovered Zoom as a drum machine company and instantly fell in love with the cheese, especially the keybed layout somewhere between typewriter and keyboard! Glad to know these are floating around the world! This machine though makes me wish they would do a 'rt-423' and integrate a few modern things like an SD card!

    Do you know if a memory card is required for saving user patterns & kits ?
    It's hard to determine from the manual. It may only be needed to transfer patterns from this to another zoom machine. thanks

    • @MrChopemup
      @MrChopemup Год назад +4

      It’s just for backup, and transfer to the outdated ps02 , the internal memory is sufficient

      Sorry for the slow reply! @MrChopemup is correct, its just for backing up the machine itself, this is mostly handy if you have taken the time to go thru the kit sounds and built your own user kits. It also backs up patterns and songs, for majority of people onboard memory I would say is A-OK.

    "Hey, thanks for your videos, they've been really helpful!! I'm on the hunt for my first drum machine. I've come across several deals, and I'm torn between the Zoom RT-223 and the Zoom RT-323. Based on your experience, which one do you think I should go for?"

    • @DjDoggDad
      @DjDoggDad  8 месяцев назад +2

      Both are such similar machines, I do want to warn the 323 seems to have a fading screen issue on a lot of units, which is usually replacing a capicitor. The 223 you will most likely have to replace the backup memory battery if its not already been done, so be prepared to fix either of them. For beginner drum machines I can't see you going wrong with either one. both do have limited built in sound sets but if you are using as a midi controller/pattern output to another module/daw thats not an issue for more sounds. Other excellent beginner machines would be the alesis sr-16 or sr-18, either of which you can usually find decent prices secondhand. I think the pocket operators might be a little overpriced for what they are but also a great little starter toy/instrument. There are a lot of drum machine types out there, and i've been meaning to upload some more machine demo vids! If you know the end goal of where you are trying to go with it that helps as well. For example do you want to plug an external pad onto it to play with sticks or do you want to play with fingers or even keyboard input. I personally like this style of drum machine where the pads are more keyboard oriented than grid layout, i think its because i will use it to play the built in bass so keyboard makes sense for that.

    Hi. Were you able to fix the LCD by replacing the film polarizer? I have the same problem with my RT 323.

    • @DjDoggDad
      @DjDoggDad  8 месяцев назад +1

      Mine is still passable on being able to be read so I haven't replaced this one in particular. I have in the past replaced screens on different drum machines and it is usually easy fixes, I could never find screen parts for the 323 to try tho! Let me know if you find an easy fix, my limited electronics knowledge is that you can add film polarizers to fading lcd screens as a bandaid, but the issue with fading lcd is usually a capacitor thats losing its juice and needs replaced, if i end up hunting down which capicitor it is ill do a vid so it can help people.
