      @@MikeRussell Hi mike, I have watched many of your video's this is the most valuable one for me yet! Thanks a lot!! I am working with 3 mics in one room as a beginner recorder & editor with minimal equipment so anything along the lines of group recordings would help me out! How do you have your mics set up? Try placing them facing back to back so you sit opposite the other person as this may also help reduce mic bleed at source.

    I'm a video producer and I've always felt I could get more out of Audition since I'm not really a sound guy. To make matters more interesting, I've been asked to produce a podcast so I've had to dive head first into Audition. In general, your channel has been a Godsend, but after my first more-or-less real world 3-mic test (yes in English but with my kids as unenthusiastic 'guests') I found these two very problems. Great to wake up this morning to a notification to this on-point tutorial. Thank you! Oh, and coffee for me, please.

    Mike, great video. I'm a relative novice and testing Audition. Learned a lot from you. One question about your process here. On my podcast, I mix down separate tracks to a single mono file. Instead of applying delete silence feature to polywave files, wouldn't it just make more sense for me to mix down the tracks and apply the delete silence feature to the mono track? Is there a disadvantage to doing it that way?

    Nice work :) Didn't know about the polywave track. Curious to hear how the deleted silences sound; obviously would be impacted by settings and all. I generally avoid using a gate for the silences because it wants to start triggering a little bit on breaths where they inhale but it's not quite enough to trigger the gate but it's halfway getting cut out and sounds awkward. Then lightening up how aggressive it is just ends up leaving a little too much. Will try again with some of your tips from this video.

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  4 года назад

      Thanks Thom. You're right that it's a fine art to setup a gate and it does crush those breaths for sure!

    Thank you Mike! This was really helpful! I was wondering if you can only use the polywave to edit podcasts? Seems like it's much easier to work with rather than a multi-track.

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  4 года назад

      I wouldn't advice it as it is destructive (meaning you're making edits direct to the audio file that cannot be undone). Backup your audio, do this process, then do the rest non-destructively in multitrack. Someone already mentioned you could actually setup gates in multitrack too.

    Just starting a podcast for my association and finding your tutorials incredibly helpful! A challenge for me is getting good audio recorded. We will invest in a Scarlett 2i2 for two inputs as the format is most often going to be host and one guest. I can't find answers to simple questions, like with each mic record on a separate track, whether I'm recording in Audacity or Audition?

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  3 года назад

      If you're recording in Audition you can use the multi track and assign the two channels to separate tracks in the multi track which will make for better editing
