Thanks, good tutorial, though I take exception to any love for Apple's "Magic" Mouse, which is a truly ill conceived piece of hardware, which could never have been seriously considered for human use. The Logitech MX Master series is just as expensive, but fits the hand better and has a horizontal scroll wheel right where the thumb can use it. It also comes with Adobe pre-sets.
I’m a voice over actress and thinking of switching to Adobe Audition because I’ve been having problems with Logic Pro lately, and I need my workflow to be simple so I can focus on performance instead. (Logic is more complicated than I really need.) Thank you SO much for this! This is so helpful! I even have the same audio interface. 😂
Thanks Michelle. Bear in mind while we can improve both of these issues they're also issues we should be aiming to minimise at source to get the very best quality audio 👍
Just completed my first proper sound mix as a result of this wonderful tutorial. Mike you're an absolute star. Thank you. Something so special about sound (as appose to video).

I really want to appreciate you for the tutorials you provided it has allowed me to produce good sound recording as an armature but now a better. however i really need an audio interface, just cant afford it. wish i could.
Don't let that stop you. I believe the microphone is your greatest friend. Have a look at the Blue mics, several models provide some unique sounds for your voice. I use the snowball which offers a really nice warm sound. They are all direct USB plug and play without an interface and sound great! I think the phantom amps and interfaces are great for intermediate to advanced users, but are just not critical enough for beginners like me.
Bro.... The mixing you were doing at 16:30 really shocked me. Editing by just looking at the waveforms shows that you are a real pro!!! Looking forward to attain that level😉
You are BRILLIANT! Thank you so much for this. I have had audition downloaded to my computer for a LONG time (I already had it because we use illustrator and have the plan with all the apps) and had been terrified to use it. Audacity keeps crashing on me, or I lose audio and I had finally had enough! Today was the day- but I opened it up and felt so overwhelmed. I don’t feel overwhelmed anymore, and think I have a pretty good handle on it!. Now I just need to figure out how to install my RX plugins and I’ll be good!

How do you get a media browser on Adobe Audition? I'm just trying to make a demo for a radio station I work for but having trouble inserting songs into adobe audition? Any advice on this? This video was very helpful for the gist of it all
Great video thanks Mike. Informative, clear and easy to follow. I sometimes do long VO recordings, without any breaks, and I am terrified of losing power or having some disaster mid recording and losing it all. Can you tell me how I keep saving without stopping the recording. Also, I have tried to use 'm' to create markers whilst recording to no avail. Is it possible to use markers whilst recording? Thanks.
Hi Mike, I like your videos. I have some questions: How do I do the voice over for a project according to these requirements but delivering something of good quality? TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: 24 bit, 44 kHz, mono, Unprocessed, RAW .wav, -60dB noise floor (or better). Naturally minimized background noise, breaths, and clicks (no plugins). I do not know which are plugins in the Effects panel. I looked at your video about the 5 mistakes but I do not know which steps I can take to improve the quality but still deliver according to tech requirements. Thank you. Kind regards, Veronica
Hi Veronica, thank you for your kind words! To achieve those technical requirements in Adobe Audition without using plugins, ensure to record in a quiet environment, use noise reduction tools like noise print, and gently edit out background noise, breaths, and clicks manually. Aim for a clean, natural sound by focusing on recording quality and subtle editing techniques.
@@MikeRussell Hi Mike, Thank you for your reply. I am working on a big vo project from a customer and they ask for a RAW WAV file without any plugins, nor compression, nor breaths, etc. Each script is about 10-18 pages long which takes me quite a long time to do it manually via Audacity. I am switching to Audition today in order to improve the workflow but I am unsure which are considered plugins since I only see Effects and there is no distinction there. I do not know which are plugins. I also do not know what is considered compression. I usually save after taking out the bg noise, the breaths, the mouth clicks, and normalizing. No compression. I do not know if normalize is considered compression.
Hey Mike. Thank you for an awesome tutorial - as always! I've a question - I'm having trouble with previewing files. The folders with my samples in are blank, but my samples show when I'm using Ableton. Any advice on how I can maybe fix this?
Fantastic tutorial, Mike! Thank you so much. A quick question. I have been asked a question from a voiceover company that I don't have an answer to. Could you kindly let me know how to do this in Adobe Audition? Question is: "can you record timed to picture/ time synced in your studio?" Will be obliged to get a prompt response, if possible. Regards
Hey, Mike that was really helpful. I am making a mashup of songs and I would like to add some drumbeat or any beat pattern to the final. Could you suggest where I could get them, preferably free?
@@MikeRussell Hi thanks a lot, I guess I will need a bit more information about what I am trying to do. I have sent you an email. Any help from your side will be highly appreciated.
Hi there, I really just want to edit my voice recordings for my pod cast. Adobe audition looks quite sophisticated. I really just want to remove/ cut clips. Do you think I am better of using a less sophisticated tool? I am only using the free trial to see whether it will be useful for me
Your DAW is a matter of personal choice. I use Audition as my every day DAW. Certainly Audacity could do what you want to do but Audacity would also come with a learning curve.
Mike! I am in need of your help. After compressing the multiple tracks into one and then exiting Audition, is there any way to recover the multiple track format so I can edit those parts individually? Please let me know as soon as you get this! Thanks!
I just starting playing around with Audition today. I followed your instructions here, but when I saved the session, it's dumped loads of files everywhere that I don't know what they mean or do. A ( AU Tracks) Audio folder, a /pkf file, loads of 'Audio Extracted.wav' files everywhere. You don't mention the mes Audition leaves when you use it. Have you done a video explaining what all files mean, and how to get back into Audition if you want to make changes? I think I'll stick within Premier for now! lol
I understand your frustration with the file clutter - I'll definitely consider creating a video explaining the file types and how to manage them in Adobe Audition to make your editing experience smoother!
good video but as a beginner i need more detail like how do u cut that in 16:26, and is it rlly needed to mixdown the entire session to save multitrack audio or u can just save it without mixdown it?
If you’re working with the time selection tool and have a selection made when you press delete the selected audio is deleted. Also, you need to mix down a Multitrack session in order to have a file of the mix. You can only save a session as a .sesx file which contains no audio.
For a videographer that is thinking of doing audio edits in Audition, what would the workflow be... do all cutting and editing of the video in whatever NLE but not anything with the audio, then output the final video in a uncompressed format to then import into Audition to do all audio edits before final delivery? Anything I am missing? thanks.
A lot of what Audition can do can also be achieved in Premiere Pro natively. Alternatively you can use Adobe Dynamic link to work with your video project audio in Audition. One tip I’d share would be to do all the video cuts before linking your audio as any changes to the audio duration made in Audition won’t make the corresponding changes to the video duration.
Hello! I just discovered your content and it's pretty informative! I'm wondering if you can suggest which one of your videos would be helpful when trying to do a song cover in Audition. I want to try covering songs using an instrumental audio then edit it together with the recorded audio. Thanks.
Hi, in order to do this you'd be recording in the multi track so you have the backing track to sing to. You'll also need to set Audition so it records just the microphone and not it's own input. I don't have anything specifically targetted at singers but you might try this which may be of some help in understanding how to record in the multitrack without feeding back what you're also listening to ruclips.net/video/olxjy8p2mxs/видео.html

@@MikeRussell OMG That was fast! Thank you and I'm looking forward on trying it out!
Good luck and have fun
Would this be a good platform to create youtube videos or do you recommend adobe premier? I can't figure that program out
Adobe Audition is a great for audio editing but Premiere is what you’ll need for video.
Thanks! Great tutorial. I was wondering where I can get free sound effects like the ones you used in the video.
You can view our FX library that I use on a day to day basis here mrc.fm/sfx but they're not free.
Great Tutorial :>
Thanks
Hi Mike, Once I have configured my voice settings. Is there a way to save the setting to be used whenever I want to record a voice clip?
Have a look at this older video which should help ruclips.net/video/t8VavLRzx78/видео.html

Check out my video on making your voice sound better. It outlines a step-by-step sequence of effects to improve your sound!
