    💥Exciting update!
    If the above method doesn't work for you, I have just collaborated with www.lalal.ai/voice-cleaner/?fp_ref=mrc (affiliate link) - results are AMAZING and it's free to try it (although you need to pay to download the songs). Highly suggest giving those guys a try. 💫
    ‼UPDATE FOR ADOBE AUDITION USERS ‼- I have made it easier than ever before to work with tricky audio. My brand new Audition presets are out now. One click to GREAT sound :) Check them out here: mrc.fm/presets This is a great way for you to support my channel too 🙏🙏🙏

      Question for you Mike... (dumb one but I'm new) .. I take it I copy the audio track from the video I have in Premiere Pro, and then paste it into Audition then clean it and save it and bring it back into the project I'm working on?

    I'm outside for starters and i have a cheap Blue mic.

    The noise is just steady "Hiss" that seems to be around 2k on the Spectral display.

      If you can find the frequency you may be able to EQ out the noise by setting a very specific frequency cut in the parametric EQ. Shrink the width as low as possible and focus on the area you've identified.

      I’ve been struggling for a while to find the right balance for the gain levels on my Rode Wireless Go 2 and Sony ZV-E10. I usually record in my bedroom, which isn’t empty but I still pick up some echo and a lot of room noise. Could you help me with the ideal settings to get clearer audio and reduce the echo and background noise? I’d really appreciate it if you could share some recommendations on the right gain numbers for both the mic and camera. Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for this and all your other tutorials :)
    Out of curiosity, what’s a good way to reduce mouth clicks in a more general way/track-wide in Adobe Audition? Is it only spot fixing or is there some effect or post processing that you could apply to the entire track? I have the rode nt1a and it ... is good at picking up on those, despite pop filter, distance and a slight angle 😅 are the accusonos tools useful in that effort?
    I am more on the narrating than audio processing side, so... I’m a beginner with the software :)

      Hi Kristina, try to avoid dairy before recording and also try eating an apple before you record. In terms of editing these there are plugins available, Audition also has a declicker but by far the most effective way to remove them is with the spot healing brush.

    • @KrisRothe
      @KrisRothe 3 года назад

    My video has pretty significant wind in the background ... when I move that HP frequency btw 690-710 it really distorts the voice. Is there a way around that? Also, it doesn't eliminate the higher frequency wind. TIA --Rachel

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  3 года назад +1

      If the wind noise is over dominating the voice then I'm afraid your only option is to re-record the audio. If you take the high pass filter too high then the spoken word audio is ruined unfortunately.

      Same here. I scoured related content trying to find a way to get rid of these mysterious bumps on some clips I would not be able to reshoot. I never seemed to come across any tutorials showcasing this granular approach. I finally asked the Reddit community for help and someone sent me this link. Of course it ended up being a Mike Russell video, I should have known. A vast majority of the things I have learned in my current novice phase of editing have come from various Mike vids. Lesson learned: check Mike Russell's channel first to see if the topic I need is covered.
      Mike, you have a knack for teaching. Clear and articulate without bloated information or unnecessary content. The structure of your videos is so smooth and shows the forethought you have about your subject matter. So many tutorial videos are all over the place making seem as though the creators are just winging their thought processes as they record. Then there's the content creators who think it's a good idea to include background music to a video about audio editing. Making it impossible to pick up on the actual audio differences in their cleanup tutorials.
      Thanks for sharing your skills with such a high level of quality Mike.

    Would it be fair to say that the modifications you demonstrated eliminated noise, rumble and clicks but also created audio gaps that would sound unnatural or bizarre if you didn't move the good audio clips closer together or include some sort of audio bed such as music, voice overs etc to fill in the audio space?

    • @MikeRussell

    May I ask a question: if the wind is really high, I get some wind noise despite using small dead cats on lavalier microphones. After I remove that with hi-pass, the voice sounds A LITTLE like listening through a phone - I hope you get what I mean, it's just higher and not so warm. Do you have a method how to improve that after reducing the wind noise?
    Thanks again - keep going!

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  3 года назад +2

      I think the issue here is that the wind noise is more than just low rumble. Using the HP filter will cure the wind noise but in doing so you're also removing the lower frequencies in your voice which, once removed, you cannot add back.
      Perhaps look at the HP filter lower down, no higher than 120hz and a combination of that and De-noise or adaptive noise reduction.

    QUESTION: @MikeRussell What's the best way to automate removal of clicks (and swallowing) sounds? On a long recording, it can take a lot of time finding and manually healing them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

      @MikeRussell  5 месяцев назад

      Glad you found the tutorial helpful! In Adobe Audition, you can try using the "Auto Heal" function coupled with the "Capture Noise Print" feature to automate the removal of mouth clicks and swallowing sounds on longer recordings, saving you valuable time in the editing process.

    Spectral Frequency is a time wasting option. I simply highlight the loud breaths and clicking and lower the volume

    • @MikeRussell

      Spectral frequency will allow you a more natural breath reduction 👍

    Do you have a video that shows how to get rid of speech chirps? I have an audio file that chirps when I make a “sh” and “s” sounds in a word and I’m struggling to remove it.

    Does this work for wind when riding a motorcycle? I want to record the sound of my exhaust, but it still picks up a lot of wind noise. Despite following your advice, the wind doesn't completely go away; there's always some wind noise. Regards

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  4 месяца назад +1

      I recommend trying a combination of noise reduction techniques specific to wind noise, adjusting settings based on the frequency range of the wind noise, and using advanced tools like spectral frequency display in Adobe Audition to further refine the removal process for motorcycle recordings.

    Hi Mike, thank you so much for this! I've tried to salvage my audio (lot of rattling from go pro audio). I've done all this but I don't understand how to copy and paste all the parameters on the next clip on my video. I've watched your 'how to copy and paste' but you've somehow got your audio in the track layout and not this layout in the video where I am. I am exporting audio files from adobe premier and not sure if that has something to do with it? Thanks again mate

      @@MikeRussell Dang Mike I wasn't even expecting a reply so thank you so much for taking the time! After watching more and more of your videos I realised this option of noise reduction is only specific for that clip and can't be copied, so I had to re-start from the beginning 😂 Have a great weekend mate!

    I enjoyed your demo and the methods you used, especially with the spectral analysis on the old church recording, but what you treated in the middle section and were calling mouth clicks sounded an awful lot more like breathing noise. I'm chronically dehydrated because of medication, and my mouth "clicks" actually sound like clicks because of the high frequency and short duration, which all stems from a lack of saliva, and is very uniquely identifiable on the wave form, just as breathing noise also has a very specific and different pattern on the waveform.

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  Год назад

      I appreciate your observation regarding mouth clicks and breathing noise in the audio treatment. Identifying and distinguishing these audio artifacts can indeed be valuable for effective audio editing.

    My room noise is in the -50's at the bottom. Do you have an idea as to how to drop it to -60? Computer and AC are both off when I record, so I wonder what you think?

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  25 дней назад

      To reach -60 dB in your room noise, consider adding acoustic panels or soundproofing foam to reduce any lingering ambient noise that might be affecting your recordings even with the computer and AC off, ensuring a cleaner audio signal for better results.

    so i use the capture noise profile to highlight the specific sounds i want to cut but it also cut out the studio ambiance that i want... is their a setting in the noise reduction that will take away the background sounds but keep the studio ambiance?

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  9 месяцев назад

      You can try using a selective noise reduction technique in Adobe Audition to remove unwanted background noise while preserving desired ambient sounds. Experiment with the masking feature to define the areas you want to keep intact. For further precision, consider using multiple instances of the noise reduction effect, each targeted at a specific type of noise.

    I shot my first travel video but I ended up breathing super heavy during some clips lol. Next time I won’t, but how can I fix this issue? I’ve look at literally all the RUclips videos and denoise does not help nor does the auto gate help. Can anyone save me here? Lol

    • @MikeRussell

      Fix heavy breathing in your travel video by manually editing, reducing volume, adding background music. Also consider voiceover or recording separate audio.

    I have a problem sir please help.... I have a audio file and there is a background sound just when the speaker has uttered a word and the issue is that the sound only occurs once in the whole audio file and only when the speaker speaks.... If that sound had occured before or after the vocal i could have targeted just that sound and remove that sound but in this situation the vocals also get affected when i try to remove that background sound.... So what is the solution in situation like this

    Thank you very much Mike. But can you please make a video on how to reduce noise and make your laptop mic sound like a studio mic in real time. Sound like a pro when you're on Discord. Live noise reduction in real time. Thank you.

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  Год назад +1

      The answers to this are simple I'm afraid, noise reduction in real time is achieved by finding and resolving the source of noise and I'm afraid you won't make your laptop mic sound like a studio mic.
