- today we clean the absolutely filthy engine on this 2011 328i, looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years.
using a tried and true engine Degreaser... completely happy with the results, weeks later still looks oem fresh squeaky clean.
thanks for watching, check out some of my other videos and consider subscribing ... please :) Хобби
Did mine this morning. Gunk works good. Truck started. No codes or engine problems.
Outstanding. I really does what it says on the can. I won't try anything else.
Just a friendly reminder to anyone who is going to do this, please make sure your Oil cap, oil dipstick, Transmission oil, areas are all closed and secure first. Cover up your alternator also. Also make sure your fuse box is properly closed and sealed, you don't want any moisture in the fuse box. :)
Bro you didn’t know but with engine degreaser mate you don’t need to cover the alternator just detach the negative battery terminal doing this will stop any power circling around, then spray the whole engine wait 10-15mins then wash off once done let it all dry out completely then re-attach the negative battery terminal and you have a clean engine.
bro you never started the car back
@@ivandavila3794 can you rephrase that mate I didn’t understand that sentence
@@ivandavila3794 The alternator can get wet, as long as it doesn't get power when wet you're fine. My car's pissed coolant onto it while the battery's been disconnected and it's been fine, I've seen people power wash their engine bays and the alternator gets wet and is still okay.
May be true.... I'm not a mechanic, and a noob at that stuff so 🤷 hah
I know I’m late to the party (2yrs, lol) but the GUNK foam works better. Also, agitate the bay with soft brush, detail brushes & even a wheel bush. Rinse off, use a blower (I use a leaf blower) & let air dry. Then use an engine dressing to make the black pop.
Good video and I'm going to clean up my sons BMW today. Have just finished replacing parts to get rid of oil leaks and the mess there needs to be cleaned!
Excellent!
On my Jaguar I run ATP AT 205 Reseal in my power steering (2 oz) and the rest of the bottle in the engine oil. Works wonders
I like Texas, but I love the seasons here in Pennsylvania. Great job on the video.
Thanks! We were without power for 3 days here. Felt like I was living up north again. Lol
Good video thank you :)
Thank you
Dry the engine with a few blasts of compressed air or the leaf blower makes a fantastic finish.
It's main solvent is kerosene and diesel which is the least corrosive to aluminum, paint, rubber, and plastics. Other brands do pit aluminum due to the use of lye based solvents which is known to etch and dissolve paint if left on too long and heavily saturated. Only complaint is the strong solvent smell of kerosene and diesel.
can this be used on aluminum?
so i applied it to a towel not directly on the engine what do you think i have to wash it off with the hose ?
Hmmm... I can't know for sure. Maybe check the FAQ section of the degreaser company page or email them? Maybe check on here for if someone has done it the way you did? Just don't want to give advice that I don't really know the answer to.
Have you encountered electrical problems or any other problems such as echo or breakdown of some parts? Please tell me if you remember that
None. Have done it again since then, works like a charm. Be safe and smart with your car. Read manuals and instructions is all I can say.
I just cleaned my engine with gunk degreaser then rinsed it off, but im seeing some little smokes, should i be worried?
Little smokes?
@@sethmacgillivary1281 yea
@@mrplankton8308 what does that mean
I realize I'm a little late, but no. A little bit of white smoke coming from the engine after cleaning is normal. It's the heat burning the rest of the degreaser off.
Is your engine on fire? 🔥 I'd be worried yes if so.
After hosing it down, use your leaf blower, and blow off the excess water on the engine then wipe it down with a towel.
Not a bad idea. Or if you have a handheld power blower for detailing that would work too. I don't.
The water doesn't affect the wires or spark plugs ?
Be safe and smart with your car. Read manuals and instructions is all I can say.
If water gets inside the electronics yes that would be bad. In a newer modern car they should.... should... be water tight.
When you spray it on, ideally you’re supposed to agitate everything with a soft bristle brush, then spray it all off. Then dry everything down carefully with a microfiber towel.
That is accurate! If you have a 'detail' brush would work ideal. I did agitate the surface with a brush but may have not shown it here, so that's a good point. After spraying it off I wiped it down with shop blue paper towels which forced some of the lossened grime up into the towels and disposed of them as I went around.
@@bigdreviewshowtos6361What about any old useless t-shirts or any cloth?
Use the stuff and my engine bay turn very clean and i think it would've turn even better if i would've let it set for 15 20 mins
That's awesome man. Thanks for sharing. Glad it worked as good for you as it did for me!!
If the foam comes on the electrics, will it affect or not?
If water or foam gets inside electrics... I'd say yes that would be bad. Newer cars should be water tight... but be safe and smart with your car. Read manuals and instructions is all I can say.
@@bigdreviewshowtos6361 Thanks for the advice
My question is covering the alternator. I've seen people who do it and seen people who don't. My alternator on both my cars are exposed to rain water. I mean saturated in rain water. I personally don't even know how to car runs the alternator is that low.
I say take the extra minute cover anything electrical to be safe. Doesn't take much time to avoid a potential major headache right
@@bigdreviewshowtos6361 I do spray dry wire, on my electricals before and after cleaning. So I agree with you better safe than sorry
I don't use it because it's solvent based , I prefer the biodegrable ones made from oranges .
Certainly your prerogative. I've never used that so can't speak to if it's better/worse or the same in terms of how they perform. This was the first time I'd tried anything and was very impressed with this particular product.
Gunk has biodegradable options.
You even sprayed the belt?🤦🏽♂️😂✌🏾👍🏾
I did... that probably wasn't great. I agree. Hindsight. She's coming up on 11 years now and I'll be replacing all the belts and hoses pretty soon I am sure. May have taken a few weeks of life out of her
We all have to learn and gain experience at some point. Yeah there are safer ways to clean an engine and bay especially BMW. but you covered your ALT most important 👏. Ive learn a ton from good you tube channels. What's NOT cool is these F*cking know it all's talking $hit in your comments. At lease you were brave enough to film it and upload. Dumb @ss trolls, Don't let them trolls discourage you this is how we all learn. Trolls are to stupid to make there own video, and if they did they would search every car guy video possible. F cowards lol... Bro you did great, keep it up keep learning. Peace🇺🇸💯👀🤜🤛🤙💪🕸️
You can be safe about it you don’t have to spray it everywhere. Just use it for the hard to reach places and just wipe the top of the engine off by hand.
@@Willppyro absolutely true bro that's most likely the way I would do it. It just takes patience however its worth it rather then a potential of damaging anything or paint ect...be very careful but that's a solid point. Also some guys will say you don't have to cover ALT this is true but it only takes a min, and you're guaranteed not to damage anything, along with other electrical components. When working on other people's cars or even your own my opinion it's a must to treat it like a million dollar car if you want to keep it looking good and most of all the vehicle running forever staying in good condition 🤙💯🙏💪Much respect 🔥 Peace ✌️
Appreciate that, my guy. It's all love and all good. If it makes people happy to sound off on me... let em be. Doesn't bother me any. Car is almost 13 years old now, runs like a top, and still looks brand new. Passed 85k miles on the old 2011 this last month. Appreciate the support
You should try making a cute video, what with all those puppies and everything
/sarc
Nice vid, thanks
U should have sprayed from the opposite angle also. Thanks!
Thanks. I am no pro. The angle of the hood would have made that difficult I think. But it's a good tip. I'll try next time.
If you leave the car running while u deep clean the engine everything will be fine many old detailers been doing it for years and I also do it not one problem
Is that a thing... hadn't heard that tip before.?
@@bigdreviewshowtos6361 that gunk will set your car on fire never use it with the car on
This is what I do and have been doing for 20+ years. I learned it from my dad who was a mechanic and he said as long as you leave the car running and do not spray the intake, battery, or alternator then you're golden. I've done this 100s of times and legit have never had a problem.
only thing... I would not wash it in my driveway. oil stains.. go to a spray car wash
Sounds like a wise man :)
😂😂😂👋👋👋👏👏👏👏👏🤜🤛🙏🙏🙏for posting
Amigos el motor no de lava se lava avapor se puede aplicar desengrasar y quitar con un paño pero no lavar así con agua y mangera porque el motor de partida o alternador o fucibles o etc se daña
Lol that’s not a greasy engine. Can anyone here in the comments tell me what the best engine degreaser is for a very greasy engine block? It’s sill in the car, not on a stand.
I just used this on mine, i had to clean off due to an oil leak. It works well, I let it seit 10 mins agitated with a brush. it's 90% clean. I was lazy to get the nooks and corners.
My truck has almost like 1/4”to 1/2” of caked on oil and grease on the bottom end and some of the trans too from oil leaks and undercoatings I believe. I just bought a can of this stuff (couldn’t find the heavy duty one so hopefully the original isn’t just a waste of my money). Might try to get the rest off the valve covers and whatever else that I couldn’t get off before with carb cleaner. I’ll let you know how it goes if I remember to lol
I just tried it on my valve covers with baked on oil. It does work but you can’t just spray it on and spray it off like these videos. I sprayed it on, let sit for 15 mins then scrubbed rinsed it off and sprayed it again and kept doing that about 4 times. It took some off, mostly what was somewhat loose and still kinda wet. The stuff that’s been baked on there and dried up is hard to get off but this stuff will soften it up it’ll just take some time and scrubbing. I’d recommend getting the heavy duty one if you can, that’d work better for this stuff.
I agree with these other folks. It really does work well. The thickness and viscosity of some of the crap on the engine bay didn't translate to camera, but it does work and it's pretty cheap. If you're worried about leaving it on plastics too long, you can always do it twice. I'd be shocked if it didn't do well for you
I would use a biodegradable orange based , degreaser . This is solvent based , if used again and again . It is not good for plastics and rubber , completely rinse with high pressure water .
Best engine polish is wd/40 on a warm engine
I don’t have plastic everywhere
I would think that makes it even easier... the gunk should wipe away easily and you don't have to worry about any residual greasy stuff on the plastics or harming them. This stuff did great, and since then I have just wiped the inside with paper towels... actually shop rags that don't shred up. Looks just as clean as the day I did thus.
That to me just looks like dust, where is the oil deposits?
That is not dust it was thick caked on grease first time that engine had been cleaned. I wouldn't recommend using a heavy degreaser on the engine bay if you just have dust.
Really, don't be a witness at a murder trial, cuz you can't see
Did the car start and run
Yes, no issues.
That's a valid question lol
Next time Don't spray that on the plastic beauty covers, it's for the engine metal or aluminum parts
Crank up the damn car
It works. Cleaned it again a year or so later and no issues, looks brand new.
Whispers
It's playing fine for me... someone else said that it was quite on their end also. Not sure why it's not level across for all
Why are you whispering?
Lol I was just talking softly. Didn't think I am needed to yell. Hope the video was helpful. Loving your RUclips name btw
@@bigdreviewshowtos6361 no need to yell, just a little bit clearer/louder for future reference. And yes! Very useful, I think you are the only RUclips video for gumout, good job 👍
Dude use an engine without all the coverings
Certainly could do that.
thats f@@&$$ up
Lol
Don't waste water
Speak up.
Thanks... sorry.
Water on bmw 😅
😂😂😂💸💸💸
No issues, almost a year later still ;) just saying.
Water all over the engine? No thank you
Need something like MAF cleaner
My engine gets saturated with rain water so for me I don't think it's an issue
Older cars that's def a concern... newer check with the dealer if u have questions as every car is different but the ecu and alternator are 2 areas I know of at least you have to be careful. Bag them or cover them to be safe if ur concerned. Better safe than sorry. The way I did this... I had zero issues and wouldn't hesitate to do it again on my or my wife's car if that helps. You could use a spray bottle to control things if a hose raises your blood pressure too much as well :)
Keep dumping water on it like that over time you’ll see what’s gonna happen
Absolutely nothing so stfu lots of detailers do this
@@WhereToFind Lol as if you know a thing about cars. Who let you out the house?
@@seething1361 hmm I have a stage 2 Audi s7 what do you drive
@@WhereToFind LOL !! You shut him up.
Lol... well that certainly popped off. :)
As long as the electrics are covered I was advised on newer models you really aren't going to hurt anything... but take that with a grain of salt. If u have a gasket leak or something unknown it could potentially do damage. So I think both points are valid :)
If you value your car, you will never follow this idiot's method. This car is ruined.
The car is still mint 👌. Have cleaned the engine 2x in 4 years. No issues. Car runs and looks brand new still.
Dude, you don't wash your car THEN the engine. Lmao.
:)
