I have this lens - very underrated. People don't realise the additional heft is due to the fact it's a... fisheye zoom lens.
I would recommend the Samyang /Rokinon 8 mm f/2.8 instead . It is very sharp and produces very cool results.

application? I see instagrammers and the artistic types wanting something like this I would try it because it would be something different, I do get tired of the same old straight forward images, but those are what sell . But as you say there better options.

I think that's why he brought up the proper fisheye 6mm. Which will get you better results and not be a master-of-none solution. You could also get a much cheaper meike lens and add simple post processing to get the fisheye look (though, you won't get the extreme ~180 degrees field of view).
Application is Micro4\3 sensors only, probably they tried to trick buyers by re-working it to FIT EF-mount, but fat chance anyway
How will use it in semi circular FOV? People who film skateboarding. I'm very tempted to try this lens out!
Instead of Meike circular fisheye I would recommend 7artisans 7.5mm 2.8 fisheye that covers all the sensor. For UWA, Laowa 9mm 2.8 is very nice but also expensive, most people would be happy with the Samyang 12mm f2. And of course if you don't need ultra wide just get the sigma 16mm 1.4

This lens is designed for Canon and Nikon dSLR cameras. The e-mount version has an intergraded adapter. That's why the back element is so deep inside.

Thank you for your objective reviews. Do you have any recommendations for a good adapter for Nex and Canon EF lenses apart from metabones and sigma mc? Did you try Viltrox, or any other ones? I have Nex 6 and 6000.

So you recommend to skip this lens because you can't figure put who this lens is for, not because of its optical quality.
FYI, there is a substantial market for this type of lens as evidenced by similar zooms from Canon, Nikon, Sigma, Tokina, etc. Do some research.
You should test tangible aspects such as sharpness, chromatic aberrations, etc
It's not fair to say "skip it" because of your inability to understand the target market for this lens.
I would add you can use software to turn the circular image into a wide format rectangular image (much like an anamorphic desqueeze)

Love the title LOL I think it's quite gutsy on their end to make a fish-eye zoom. It can't be easy and hence I think the difficulties really show in the quality of the shots coming out of the camera.
With that said, timely upload of this video as I've been contemplating the laowa 9f28 vs the rokinon 12f2. I like that the rokinon has a 67 filter thread to share the filters I already own for 67mm. Which would you recommend if you want a wide enough lens to shoot canoeing adventures while trying to fit your companion in front into the frame? Is 12mm on crop enough?
Any plans on the Sony 24-240? Currently the most telephoto lens we can have under somewhat of a budget.

I don't know my name I got an a6000 a couple of weeks ago with the 16-50 and 55-210 kit lenses, but I’m finding that I’m using old Canon FD glass a ton more often. Granted, they’re a LOT heavier, but I feel like I’m getting better and (generally) sharper pictures out of them than the Sony lenses.
@@Vsmit00 I was about to purchase the 55-210 Sony zoom lens because they were on sale where I live but when I got the money the sale ended. Bought a vintage Tamron in the end. Hopefully it'll arrive before 2020 along a Helios 44 I got for cheap.
If you take a look at TechnologyMafia's previous videos he has made tests of some of the vintage lenses.
could be great for 360 panoramas. better stitched resolution than my 6.5mm
Just get the freaking Sigma 16mm f1.4 E. Best wide angle for Sony. It’s so freaking sharp. Now I need to save up for the Sigma 56mm that just came out...
Most ppl already own it but sometimes 24mm ff equiv isn't wide enough and some like myself have been looking for ultrawide options

This lens is designed for SLR camera with long flange distance which makes it long and unwieldy to start with. Most importantly looking at the sample photos it is extremely decentered as the right side is much more out of focus and bokeh is different. Poor engineering from start to finish of the assembly. Thank you for your time and effort to document and share this.
this lens made for Micro4\3 lens, like most of cheapo fisheye lens, the big wonder - why they started to call it "APS-C sensor"

as they designed to be cheap analog of SMTH - there is no problems with reviews like this. They KNOW it's quality and it's use-abilities, it made for sorta like Micro4\3, but since most of users switched from Olympus to Sony - they just did a small job to mount, and voila, IT FITS A6300 now, and nobody cares about result of this cheapo lens from 2014.
That 9mm point where you still have a little vig is perfect for filming skateboarding. The only other option for filming skateboarding with that effect on a dslr is the Canon 8-15mm L series lens. So this is actually a pretty cool find / budget alternative.

I tried it but the image was very soft, and it did not produce a full circular image so I sent it back for a refund.

More is more, and original. Everyone hates this lens. Yet, everyone loves it who isn’t a videographer/photographer.
If they emptied the lens out and made it into a mug, I might buy it for 10 dollars...just saying.

dont use it on APS-C sensor, but use it with Micro4\3 and it will give you wonderful results!
