Glen was not a Country musician, he was an Incredible, COMPLETE Musician. As a member of the Wrecking Crew, he could, and did play everything. I had the pleasure of meeting him briefly many years ago, and what a kind and humble man.
So glad there are countless recordings of his performances for generations to enjoy.
    Glen, Rest In Peace.

You make a great point. And since you mention the Wrecking Crew, I sing in Life Choir gospel in LA, which was founded by the gentleman that drummer Hal Blaine credits, in the documentary, with starting the Wrecking Crew, composer/arranger HB Barnum, at Capital Records. Because of the advanced age of most of the choir members, we never fully regained our momentum after the pandemic. But the guy who "started it all" is still alive and living in the valley. I love Glen Campbell RIP

He was a session guitarist before he was a recording artist or session singer. Therefore the guitar was where he was most comfortable-even more than singing. Beyond that, many types of dementia loosen people’s inhibitions, and this was a good example of this and how the illness affected his performance.

It was 6/68 when Wichita dropped. I was 11 yo, in 5th grade. I came in the house and my mom had her AM radio on, the song was playing. My mom grabbed me and started dancing with me, and singing the song. She said Ah! my first born. I'm 67 now. Mom's gone now. I forgot all about this song. I was driving and it came on the radio. I had to pull over, I was crying like a baby. I went back 56 years to that early June day in 68'. Awesome!

The first version of this great composition I heard was by OC Smith in 1969 of his album titled "For once in my life". I was transfixed as a 15 year old by both the melody and lyrics. What a beautiful man. So much talent, heart, and soul poured into a song he must have played 1000 times before. Jimmy Webb’s songwriting could not have had a better interpreter. The guitar work in his solo starts off pretty standard and Glen’s mastery takes it through the universe, and I can see guitarists across the world chucking their instruments in the trash. Always brilliant, always under appreciated, Glen was an American icon and a true gift to music. And by the way, this is from a guy whose favorite band is Cannibal Corpse!

I worked for the phone company most of my life. I know what it’s like to climb in the rain or snow. Always this song has held deeper meaning for me. One time in Edmonton just outside the city I was up a pole and belted in. There was a field of long wheat that was hypnotizing as the wind moved waves through it. A truck passed by down below and this song was playing. Meant to be I guess.

But hey, everyone to their own I guess.
You know Tom, since being away from Cliffe, I've looked into evolution a little more in depth (I'm talking humans evolving from monkeys just for clarification). It turns out all those ape/humans transitional skeletons such as Lucy, Piltdownman, Javaman just to name a few were a complete hoax. I really didn't know that. And, the men funding the digs weren't the best of characters either,. just God hating men desperate to prove He doesn't exist. Fascinating. If only the atheist, people like yourself, would follow the evidence, you would have to conclude at the very least, that this monkey to human theory is a lie. A total con job to be more precise. There is zero evidence of it. None. It's just a story. Made up to decive any poor soul willing to buy it.
