- We bought this 200 year old derelict farm in Ireland in August 2023 where we now live with our 2 children.
We are applying for the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant, so until we get that approved, we can not start renovation on the property.
This video is just a quick recap of what we have done so far.
We put a mobile home on site which was old & without central heating or double glazing. To improve living conditions we insulated & cladded the exterior in larch live edge timber.
A log burner & diesel heater installed inside the caravan has also made the world of difference.
2024 will be an exciting year when we finally get to start on the cottage renovations and welcome to animal additions to the place.🍀🫏🐣🦆🍀

Wonderful ariel views of your homestead. Its great that you dont have neighbours too close. Love the paths to the swing and the pond. YOu might consider sheeting in the perimeter (where you have the stones) under the static, as dead air space keeps in more heat and keeps out vermin more. (though you do have cats). Spring is around the corner!
The pond is in desperate need of tlc as that tree is still fallen over it. Next job after the static is completed. Have to admit I'm looking forward to seeing the place in bloom again. Thanks for the message & happy New Year to you.

Sadly unless we import it not much interest on donedeal.
We need the lump sum to get the work done so sadly renting it out isn't an option although we did consider it. 👍

Thanks for this. It’s soothing to see you avoiding my mistakes. We’re currently contemplating demolition of our ancient mobile home and replacing it with another. This time definitely for a year or two, max. 🤞🤞🤞🤞
Do you have contact details for your haulage contractor, that delivered your one? We need to try and figure out the costs and logistics, before we commit.
Our site is tricky, with overhead power and telephone lines, a steep slope and mature trees all in the way, so craning in is not a possibility. We got permission to cross a neighbour’s land, last time, which may be the way to go again, but he has invested in drainage and fencing in the last year, so he may be a bit reluctant now. We also had the use of a 12 tonne digger, to take down ditches and help with manoeuvring the mobile home in the confined space. That’s no longer available.
Looking for whatever ideas a professional might have, for such situations.

We used Savage & Sons as they sell the caravans & delivery was included in the price.
We are lucky as access isn't too tricky here and it all went smoothly. The digger firm was luckily here anyway laying the stones/clearing the land. It made it much easier.
We used Joe McGovern for the digger services.
Having a warm, dry place to retreat too at the end of a hard day of renovation is imperative.
The place is so neat and the mobile home is unrecognisable..it's a cosy cabin..does it make a big difference with retaining heat? The storms are a plenty lately and I think of you all and hope you are safe..wind is so destructive..❤
Ahh the wind has certainly been a challenge. The static is such a different place inside now as well as out. Less condensation and a lot warmer. We'll worth the effort & cost.

Myself and my wife are very close to making the leap and move to either Ireland or south west France. I’m like yourself and can turn my hand to any form of building which is obviously a big bonus. Where I’m coming on stuck with Ireland moreover France is finding a sales agent that can give me any kind of indication on prices. Can you advise or point me in the right direction. Keep the videos coming guys.

We love it here and not having a language barrier has made a big difference especially when dealing with materials & suppliers. Unless, of course, you speak fluent French.

What roof will you put on the cottage
We plan on re-using the original roof, but not sure yet about the barn section as obviously nothing to re-use there! 🤣
These little time-lapse/timeline videos are important for you just as much as your viewers, cos sometimes you'll need to encourage yourselves and remind yourselves what you HAVE achieved. Without seeing your own progress, it's easy to become disheartened. Looking forward to 2024's achievements.😊
