Hi Mandy. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment. Yes it was beautiful wasn’t it. It lived on a narrowboat in front of us. Thanks again and take care. 👍❤️
I'm suprised to see how many delapidated and totally trashed bpats are left along the sides, not removed from the water. With so little available mooring space, having the "dead" boats sitting there rotting and sinking is quite surprising.
Much changed from when I used to work up there in the 1980s .. had an office that overlooked the basin. The basin appears to have been enlarged. Presumably this was done when the re-development on-shore took place. You wouldn't have wanted to moor up on the North bank in the 1980s.. Westminster council had a refuse lorry depot where the high rises are now.
Wow, great to hear from you and to know a little about the history of the basin. We think it was developed a lot but all the high rise buildings have turned it into a bit of a wind tunnel!! Incredible really, we struggled to turn the boat around in the wind.... you think narrowboats had sails when you see how the wind effects them ha ha. Hope you are enjoying our channel and travels around the UK network. Look forward to hearing from you again. J&M x
Hi Tommy. Thank you for your comment. Yes it’s a great life, there is so much to see in our wonderful country. It’s a pleasure to be able to share with everyone our travels. We hope you continue to enjoy. 😀
Much younger people sadly will never have the taste of enjoying life this way when and if reaching senior age the way you do. Such an inspiration you videos. Thank you for sharing happiness beyond youth, a value in high risk of instiction.
What a superb video. As an expat living in NZ, my nostrils fired up with memories of central London. I can only imagine how the senses fired up as you got closer to the mooring. It was a fantastic start to the morning.
Hi. We bet the sights and sounds of central London hit the spot! Paddington basin was great. We were right in the thick of it! And as you saw we were also in the thick of it on the way there too!! Take care in lovely NZ 👍❤️
I know in America they sell bags that dissolve in the water and instantly clears away that sort of stuff from the water. It's used in large ponds when they have fish in it and they need to keep the water clear.
Magnificent. (English is not my first language). People in great Britain say good morning, without knowing each other. Friendly and easy going. Love your gin and tonic, but it alters my muscles augmentation. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Avi. Thank you so much fir taking the time to leave us a comment. In general people in Britain are indeed friendly which is nice. Glad you liked Jaq’s G and T.. she needed it after a stressful day! Do take care Avi and thanks again. 👍❤️
Looks so leisurely and serene, thanks for sharing. I’m part way through your video (dreaming I’m there), and I cannot believe the amount of surface weed. Surely that cannot be helpful in such abundance to any aquatic life, especially those that photosynthesise? Hey what do I know, I’m a keen gardener, but I think common sense says if you block light you affect a lot of aquatic plant life…but do correct if me if I’m wrong anyone. I like to learn, you’re never too old to.
Hey great to have your comment, thanks for taking the time to drop us one. The weed is such a problem, sadly we're not sure on the technical side of it. It causes a huge problem for the boat though.
No different now than it was 15 yrs ago. When we bought out 57 ft in 2003 the canals were under the care of British Waterways. With plenty of lengths men around who took pride in looking after their section of canal. Then it all changed and has gone downhill ever since. I am glad I am no longer on the water. Even the manners of fellow boaters changed, have your head down in the weed hatch and a passing boat would stop and ask if you needed help. Then suddenly 5 years later a boat wouldn’t even bother slowing down. Glad I am a land lubber again.
That canal is not in good condition, but don't understand why you didn't try to remove that drum out of the canal. Surely it's up to every boat owner to help look after the canàls.
Hi and thanks for taking the time to comment, we very much appreciate it. Boat owners in general take very good care of the canals and sadly in this instance lifting something so large and cumbersome from the canal, even up the small height to the deck of the boat would be considered unwise we think. We did consider it. We were aware that the CRT where in the area (we didn't show on camera) removing the green pond weed from the canal and also there were litter pickers walking the canal tow path. We mentioned it to other boaters who were coming towards us as well. Sometimes it's just not safe to do things like that. Thank you for your concern and we hope you continue to enjoy the channel. J&M
Really enjoyed this, thanks. I was at work today erecting some steel fencing around a waste management site (Four Ashes, Cannock/W’hampton to be exact) that has a canal running alongside it. Amongst all the noise and work going on I noticed through the fence a few canal boats moving along the canal. It looked so peaceful and idilic. Coming from Birmingham myself I’m well aware of the canals as we have many, and I’ve always been in awe of our waterways and their respective history. I think for just that moment of watching the narrowboats, it’s ignited a spark in me to hopefully someday be able to own one myself. I’m 36, and wondered if there’s many more around my age that still takes a keen interest in this? Thanks for the video!
Hi there, wow what a great comment and lovely to know that you look so fondly at the network. It is an amazing place with so many interesting people either working on or cruising and using it for holiday or just for their day to day lives. We would certainly recommend it as a way of life. You have to be very flexible, adaptable and able to deal with moving your home on a regular basis. You get to see all the lovely nature and season changes this country has to offer. Good luck if you do decide to, do let us know. J&M xx
That green stuff is called Duckweed. It is very invasive and a never-ending job to clean it up. It multiply itself a number of times within 24 hours. A layer of grease/oil to that screw gadget that holds the lid down will help.
Hi Tom. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment. The duckweed as you say is very invasive and an increasing entity! I will apply a bit of grease to the screw. Thanks again and take care Tom. 👍❤️
Hi, I’ve,e just started watching your vlogs. I’m catching up on your earlier vlogs which are interesting and professionally made, thanks, look forward to more, cheers.
Hi Richard. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment. Welcome onboard! We have a playlist on which you can watch all our videos in order. We post a new video every Wednesday! Thanks again and we look forward to hearing from you with your comments whenever you like. Take care Richard 👍❤️
Hi Steve. Glad you liked the episode. We now post a new episode every Sunday so be sure to subscribe to be the first to know when the new one goes live. Thank you 👍❤️
Here in South La. AKA Louisiana we call that Duck weed. The swamp is full of it in the Spring . We call the little Black Bird Water Chickens . We called pool dues.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment. We are glad you like our channel and find our videos calming. We post a new one every Wednesday so be sure to watch out for that. Thank again. 👍❤️
Thank you for sharing ur adventures. All that water choking greenery has made my resolve to buy organic food only much stronger and more determined as I believe its the run off from agriculturalland, golf courses and gardeners feeding their plants that causes excessive algae bloom.
Hi Daphni. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment. You make a very good point about the run off potentially causing problems. The duckweed seems to grow a lot during hot weather and it was certainly a problem when we were in London. 👍❤️
Actually it's not gardeners. They don't produce anywhere near enough phosphates to create the green duck weed. And, there arent that many farmers in London. The main problem is canal boaters who live on the canals full-time, and their washing up water and washing machine water is just emptied into to the canal. (grey water). It's so full of phosphates which is an algae and water weed food. I know this is a contentious thing to say, but just think how many people now live on the canals because property is stupidly expensive in cities.
@@nicholaskemp2246 hi. Not wishing to disagree on such a lovely channel but boaters are not the cause. Canals are fed by rivers and reservoirs and these are overburdened with run off from agriculture (mainly) and golf courses, parks and - yes - gardeners who feed roses, tomatoes etc etc plus the madness of lawn feeding too ( we are overrun with companies contracting to feed garden lawns 3x a year) as i said we are ALL having an impact. im not trying to start a finger-pointing war between gardeners and boaters! The main contributor is the farmer. Unless each one of us buys organic food only we ALL contribute to this.
1:09 - Down my neck of the woods. there are so many abandoned boats like these. Some are completely sunk while the ones that arent are often a home for a homeless person. For the amount of money the C&RT get every year from boat dwellers and anglers, they seem to work pretty slowly.
Hi. Thanks for your comment. Yes it’s sad to see the abandoned boats all gathered there. We think it’s a CRT storage place? The sight of the kids toys in the bed was really sad. Someones dream one day. 👍❤️
@@cruisingontheborder Not sure about storage area but I highly doubt it. Being boat owners yourselves you should know that just about everything aspect of it costs money in one way or another. It doesnt matter if youre paying the C&RT for your boat license or having your boat stowed at a marina or dry dock - it all costs money. I've walked past the same few boats for longer than i can remember that have never been moved that slowly got swallowed up by the river/canal and now exists as a habitat for the fish despite seeing numerous stickers and notes from the C&RT stuck on them saying that they would be _'reclaiming it'_ in the past. When space on the waterway is in such high demand. It doesnt make a whole lot of sense to have a lot of boats that have been abandoned still moored there. I think the C&RT have gone a bit crazy on the amount of boat licenses they have given out in the last three decades. Some of the Rivers and Canals in London arent really the widest compared to what you probably get up in Yorkshire - which is where im guessing youre from by the accent.
Hi. Yes as you say space on the network is getting less. Even more so in large towns/cities. There are so many abandoned boats around. It’s a sad sight sometimes. 👍❤️
Sitting in my living room alone kinda sad and lonely, lol here in upstate New York and watching this lifts my spirits via fantasy which bares an lol again I thoroughly enjoy this first time seeing your channel not narrow boats because I love the culture but after this roadside feel relatable to you kind folks
Hi Harry. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment. We are so pleased that we can in someway life people’s spirits through watching our channel. We really hope the scenery and our sense of humour helps you not to feel so lonely. You are not alone now Harry your onboard with us! So strap in for the journey and enjoy Britain through our eyes. @@cruisingontheborder I am perhaps not as lonely as I made I do live alone but have beautiful children and three grand children the fact you replied means so very much I fell you differ from almost any narrow boat channel is we get the experience vicariously because the others is more about there lives on the boat verses the cruising experience like your viewers were at Hampton court with you we cruised thro London proper with you yes I enjoy your channel and hope to someday ride via canal through your beautiful country thank you again
Again your videography is so vivid I feell you capture it so well I won’t bother you again lmao cruise on with continued happiness take care to you and Michael as well

Hi John 👌so lovely to read your comment thank you for taking the time to message us. Wow that sounds so exciting we loved the K&A it’s a real adventure. Are you doing the Caen Hill flight?? Do enjoy 😉
Hi Matyas. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment. The cheese barge is an impressive sight. We didn’t go inside did you? If so how was it? 👍❤️
Many year ago I ud to o on Mansfield there is a big lake opposite the Hospital . Thy ha the same problem as the canal the green algae they solved the problem by placing nets filled with straw that floats in the water . Iam not sure what chemicals the straw has but it kills off the green algee . They only use it in the summer so in late summer they can take the nets out and more water sport like water-skiing can take place
Hi Gary. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment. That’s a very interesting and ingenious way of dealing with the duckweed. We’d never seen it on northern canals only in London but obviously it’s warm enough in the north to grow rapidly like is does there. The straw sounds like a good idea but not sure how we would navigate around bails of floating straw. Thanks again Gary, take care. 👍❤️
Sadly, the amount of weed just shows what a poor job the environment agency do of protecting our waterways. Get rid of the lot of em and allow people of the waterways take care of the waterways and get rid of those that have a degree and sit behind a desk making decisions for those that live on the water and know the facts.
Hi John. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment Your right my friend. And how many other organisations could do to use that methodology too. Thanks again John. 👍❤️
The Environment Agency is no different from most public sector agencies . Far too many people with degrees which in turn means far too many over paid numpties who are far more concerned with How woke and PC they can be. 🙁
I dont think its down to the environment agency to deal with things like that. Its normally the Canal&RiverTrust (C&RT). The environment agency are just there to say they did something if theres been something like a tonne of pollution that wiped out all the wildlife in and on the rivers and canals.
The Environment Agency don't administer the canals of England. It's the Canal and River Trust. You need to do some research before you spout silly opinions
I was in a service station at top of Jubilee way Dover. No Costa them days but the old garage had a small area & staff were you could get a coffee & pre heated food. I was getting a coffee & a guy who I found out was driving for a Spanish company, commented on the amount of rubbish on the floor 🤷♂️ Talking to him I found out he drove to Tunisia 🇹🇳 & Egypt often. As we talked he said iv seen more rubbish on the sides of the roads & lay-byes in England than anywhere iv ever been 🤷♂️ he looked as I shrugged my shoulders saying ! Ya it’s normal here.
Hmm sadly I am sure he is right. A lot of countries in Europe have a different method of collecting rubbish, Spain is great because they have massive collection bins on the side of the street which also have all the recycling options. We were only commenting yesterday that there are just not enough rubbish bins for people to dispose of things. Maybe we should put ourselves forwards at the next election to get into power!! Great to hear from you, keep up the comments. J&M x
@Cruising on the Border sadly I had to have a beautiful little rescue cat put down 3 years ago he had very similar markings was a lovely little fellow very much missed now have an adorable so friendly sprocker spainel my best friend! Hoping to sell house later this year and buying a 57 foot narrowboat for us to both enjoy the canals . Used to be a skipper of a 120 foot trawler all around the uk so miss being on the water thank you so much for your lovely vlogs . I'm definatley thinking of a incinarating toilet and possibly a hybrid part diesel part electric engine and as much solar as can get on the roof xx keep safe thanks again xx
Hi again. So sorry to hear about the loss of your much loved cat but it sounds like your sproker is taking up its place in your life. So interesting to hear you were a trawler skipper. Where was your home port? We are both mesmerised by the fishing fleet. My (M) grandparents has a place in Whitby and grandad had a small fishing bust which he took me out fishing in wherever I visited. We caught lots of mackerel and the odd cod in those days and it made a real impression on me. Jaq and I visit Whitby a place we love, quite a lot and try to fish off the pier! Your narrowboat project sounds fab.The hybrid idea is a great one. In next weeks episode we see what we were told is one of the countries most energy efficient boats so stay tuned for that one. Thanks again for your comment and good luck. 👍❤️
It's not a holiday style I'd take. I had them as family holidays when younger. Now I'm scared for life. However, I truly hope this form of leisure continues as it has a romance to it that would be a shame to be lost.
Ah ah yes there is a sort of a romance with it, moving on from place to place, exploring and being out in the fresh air and nature all the time. We love it. There are up and down's and we try to show all sides of this live aboard life.. Thanks for your lovely comment. Funny my niece has two cats, one called Eggy and the other Bread. Love it
The green ' pea soup' is Lemna - known as duck weed. The overgrowth is environmental . There may well be some nutrient loading going on. Glad the CRT are getting rid of it.
looks fun, my wife don't want to try boating .I did it years ago and enjoyed it. you are going faster than London traffic. Do they UELZ boats in London ?
what happens to all the abandoned boats taking up mooring spots? looks to be quite an issue. surprised to see how long many of these hulks have been tied to one spot.
Hi Scott. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment. CRT recover the abandoned boats (eventually!) and we suspect they are taken to central spots (boat graveyards!) as you can see in episode 39 m.ruclips.net/video/OdFC9lDetPw/видео.html We see lots of abandoned boats along the way. Sad sights! 👍❤️
Hi Charles Yes your right it’s called Duckweed here too. There was so much if it on this particular stretch of canal it was hard to make out the contours of the canal at times. Thank you for leaving us a comment,
@@cruisingontheborder It's only invasive if non-native and/or the waterway is eutrophic from polluting run-off - agricultural over-use of fertiliser, chicken farms, sewage etc. 😱 (Dot)
People in London, get a boat then Moor up, cheaper living when you work there, if they all moved about regular then weed might go down, but they don't because they don't want to lose their space
Hi Dave. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment. Sadly it wasn’t us in Liverpool last year. We might go there this year though. We are glad you like our channel. Thanks again and do take care Dave. 👍❤️
I guess a lot of this is down to expectations. The canal world does not exist in a bubble, isolated from the stresses and strains of modern life. Eventually, it catches up and worlds collide, albeit at 3 mph. Hope you can enjoy it when you can.
We love our waterways adventures Ian, it such an amazing way of life. Yes it has its stresses and strains but we cope well with life off grid. It's amazing how different life can be at 3mph. Thanks you so much for your comment and we hope you continue to enjoy. J&M x
Wonderful vlog guys. So interesting cruising through London. Some fab, interesting sights. Great song at 20 mins. I was startled that the aggression would be humans on you and relieved that it was coots. Wind sometimes is a help when winding. I detect a slight West Yorkshire accent. Good luck my friends and happy cruising.
Hi Francis. Thank you for your comment. Yes the aggressive behaviour was all bird based! We are glad you like the music at 20 mins. As you will know as one of our subscribers, that piece of music was a little ‘off piste’ for us so thankfully you liked it. You are correct about our accents! Take care Francis. 👍❤️
You can use a mooring line attached at the bow to a shore cleat and let the wind or tide on a river to swing the stern around. Used this method when at my Thames mooring when painting my boat, ready for a busy summer of rally's etc. The worst thing I had was a large sandbag used by builders' merchants wrapped around one prop, just as I was trying to get into Lime House after coming up from the Medway. My boat had twin engines but only one rudder, she was great to steer one way was but a real s-d the other way. A friend had a bra going upriver and panties on the return down!!!! His boat was known as Ann Summers after that.
Hi again. Thanks for your hilarious comment. The Ann Summers boat is a wonderful story! We used the single attached line on our steel boat in France many times and it worked a treat! Thanks again and take care 👍❤️
We decided it would be such a challenging job to do because as you go over one section it just fills back in again.... argh!!! But yes we agree they do a great job. Thanks for your comment. x
I think you will find that the reason the coots and other water birds were aggressive is that it is mating and nest building time hence the territorial bit. The reason the water was bubbling is that the CRBT monitors the oxygen in the rivers to stop it from becoming stagnant and killing life. A green river is a healthy river.
Hi Richard. Thank you for your comment. As you say, the Coots aggressive behaviour is a combination of a few factors including territorial advantage. We witnessed a lot of the same behaviour from other Coots in the area. Good to see that the CRT who are responsible for the Grand Union canal Paddington arm where we filmed the underwater turbulence are practicing the same methods in stopping water stagnation as you refer to on rivers.
Hi Pippa. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment. You are correct about the bubbling. It was something we’d not sen before so was very interesting and a good idea we thought. 👍❤️
A green river is not necessarily healthy. Toomuch nitrogen in the water (e g from agricultural or horticultural fertilizer) can create over growth of plant life, followed by a scarcity of oxygen, not enough light passing through for healthy plant life on the bottom thereby actually killing off all life... thus it is a matter of equilibrium. Definitely not healthy...

Hi thanks for taking the time to comment. We didn't think of that, I think we would off been worried about distressing it, it was moving ok in the water and didn't seem unhappy with life. J&M
Worked on the Regent Street upgrading a bridge deck over the regents canal into and on New Years day, an amazing experience…great video, take care both👍🏼
Ah ah, maybe have a look again... it was the little birds towards the end bullying the one that had the poorly leg and was hopping along the canal bank. Hmmm maybe a play on words on our part but it was very sad to see. Hope you are watching some of our other videos. Thanks for dropping us a comment. Jackie & Michael x
Hi Pauline. Thanks for taking the time to leave us a comment. We knew the “pea soup’ is duckweed. There was so much of it, it was hard to see the contours of the canal at times. 👍
Hi Graham. We are glad you like the music. It’s difficult to please everyone music wise but we do try. The last track we use near the end of the video was a bit of a wild card for our channel so we hoped you liked that one too?? 👍❤️
Hi Craig. Thanks for taking the time to leave us a comment. The mooring fee in Paddington Basin was £12 from memory. There didn’t seem to be any free moorings in the basin. There are some free moorings in the immediate run up to the basin but as this is London most/all were taken. Good luck and thanks again. 👍❤️
Problem with duckweed, when it dies, it rots, causing more problems with more duckweed. To many nutrients in the water. Farm run off. Probably won't get rid of it, but reduce problem next year.
Hi thanks for your comment. It was a real problem on that section of the network but not as much as they number of plastic bags and plastic waste debris in the canal. Hope you are enjoying our little waterways adventures? Keep the comments coming. xx
I could be totally wrong but I feel that part (probably nowhere near all) of the cause of the "pea soup" is because over the years people have been feeding the wildlife and thus caused an imbalance in the growth. Don't all shout at me if I'm wrong. It's just a feeling.
WHAT, YOU IMBEC....... just kidding. I'd guess, a big reason is they dare'nt pump all the shite in to the navigations as they used to do. All the waterways with in a stones throw from a town were just "dumping grounds" for what ever "buisness" wanted to get rid of. The bleeding corporations who " OWN" the water are all at it. KNOWN FACT.
@@cruisingontheborder Yes walking along the Paddington basin to litlle Venice was quiet nice and seeing i later from the boat perspective was something different. I wold have loved to see the bridges in the basin moved, but that didn't happen.
Hi Zero Fox. Thank you for leaving us a comment and we hope you enjoyed the videos. The weed does grow very quickly, particularly where there is limited boat movement, like on the Paddington Arm, which we think is why they have all the boats sucking it up. Thank you for supporting us with your comments 🙏
This canal lookes like a sewer.. dead bird, barrel, tons of trash and weed. Sad no one cares to makes water passages clean and appealing. So many people get rugs and other stuff stuck to an engine, it probably doesn't smell too good in summer time. These waterways have a huge potential and are very unique. It's beyond me how poorly these are treated and maintained (even better ones are polluted)
Hi Jerry. We think no matter what size the ‘pea soup’ duckweed boat was it still wouldn’t be able to cope. They were trying hard which was good to see. Hope all is well with you Jerry. Take care 👍❤️
Hi Jacqueline. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment. Guess your right about the rotting. There was so much of it that we felt sorry for the poor guy who was trying to dredge it! Thanks again Jacqueline. Take care 👍❤️
All that green weed is caused by over nutrient water coming from somewhere most likely some local farms, dairy farm or pig farm run off could be the culprit but it could be any number of things, the orthoritys must find the source or the nutrients,
Hi Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment. Your right, run off is a big prob on the canals. We guess there are many contributory culprits causing the problem including humans. 👍❤️
It's coming up to mating time and it takes actually being close to the ducks and swans on a daily basis that you see what really happens in the natural world. Once it's in full swing you will witness the drakes holding the ducks head underwater (sometimes drowning them) just to mate, multiple drakes descending on one duck, drakes killing baby ducks so their mum is 'acceptable' once more. Coots are smaller so it's not so obvious. 'Survival of the fittest' really shows when you are that close to nature.
Hi Jill. Thanks for taking the time to leave us a comment. Yes, we have seen many occurrences of ducks, swans etc attacking each other at mating time as they fight over mates, territory etc. In episode 1 on our channel we saw a mother chased away from her last duckling. We fed the poor thing and hoped it lasted the night and fortunately it did and the following day it’s mother found her way back to it! Thanks again Jill and do take care 👍❤️
Hi Steve. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment. Yes that’s a possible idea re slowing down. Prob was there was so much of the stuff it was a thankless task. 👍❤️
That water is dying 😢. What a sad sight. I thought our Atlantic was bad, but this is so depressing. And like always. No-one seems to care and all "payd" officials, voted by the people to take care of our lakes, rivers and oceans simply don't give a fuck. 😢😢😢
Hi Mike. Thanks for your comments re the weed. We were a little surprised that it all went to landfill but it’s a toxic growth so probs the best place for it I guess 👍❤️
Britain is broken Dead birds, plastic drums in the canal, weed that cannot be used due to plastic I would be asking the environment agency "why cannot you take out the plastic" in the process
Thankfully not all stretches of the canal are light that, this was a total one off. Thank you for taking the time to drop us a comment, we love hearing from everyone.

Hi thanks for the question. We think it builds up naturally on the canals when there is little movement by boats on the network. We have seen it elsewhere on the system. We know it has to go to landfill which is not great.
I would of scooped the dead swan out the water, bagged it bless it and binned it , save the canal you all use from getting more contaminated and kill more wild life I've seen many sailing vessels throwing wrong stuff in canals

The waterways should be fined allowing this weed to accumulate like this - it’s the roots under underneath that is the problem for wild life and boaters alike 😢

Is the green moss/whatever, a sign that the *life* of the river is out of balance?
Looks like you've got a bag for life, remember as a child back in the fifties around the Rive Lee Canal watching the canal boats
Hi thanks for dropping us a comment. So pleased you enjoyed our little London adventure.
Hi thanks for your lovely comment and your boating experience. Everything changes for sure doesn't it.
It's a sewer😮

J&M xx
They pump air into the canal to oxygenate the water as the pea soup (duck weed) Starves the canal of oxygen. It also slows the duck weeds growth.
Great fact Claire thank you so much for the details.

Here in South La. AKA Louisiana we call that Duck weed. The swamp is full of it in the Spring .
We call the little Black Bird Water Chickens . We called pool dues.
Great comment and such good information about Louisiana.
Most enjoyable video, so peaceful to join your adventure
So annoying that people are so irresponsible with their plastics & other waste .. great video .. Thank you . These videos are so calming
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment.
We are glad you like our channel and find our videos calming. We post a new one every Wednesday so be sure to watch out for that.
Thank again. 👍❤️
They need to introduce some 8 inch or bigger Grass Carp to the water , they will eat it .
Maybe you should sent that information to CRT and it will help them manage the network, particularly in London. Great comment, thank you.
Hi Nicholas.
You make a very good point.
Thanks for taking the time to leave us a comment. 👍❤️
Hi Daphni.
Thank you for another interesting and educating comment.
I’m sure we are as you say, all to blame in some way. 👍❤️

Again your videography is so vivid I feell you capture it so well I won’t bother you again lmao cruise on with continued happiness take care to you and Michael as well

enjoyed the video...and the soundtrack! We'll be doing our first narrowboat trek in August. Kennet and Avon.
Hi John 👌so lovely to read your comment thank you for taking the time to message us. Wow that sounds so exciting we loved the K&A it’s a real adventure. Are you doing the Caen Hill flight?? Do enjoy 😉
Cheese Barge!! @ 19:47 Went there in December. Definitely one of the top places we visited.
Hi Matyas.

The cheese barge is an impressive sight. We didn’t go inside did you? If so how was it?

Hi John.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment
Your right my friend.
I second the last comment about the Environment Agency please redirect your anger at the CRT.
What a beautiful cat such lovely markings
Hi
Thanks for taking the time to leave us a comment.
Yes the cat was so unusual. It lived on a narrowboat next to us. So cute!
👍❤️
Hi Debra yes it was so good to see it being removed. Thanks for your comment, lovely to hear from you.
looks fun, my wife don't want to try boating .I did it years ago and enjoyed it. you are going faster than London traffic. Do they UELZ boats in London ?
Ha ha 😄 great point, yes we will be going faster than a car. No extra charges now. Thanks for your comment 😀
what happens to all the abandoned boats taking up mooring spots?
looks to be quite an issue.
surprised to see how long many of these hulks have been tied to one spot.
Hi Scott.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment.
CRT recover the abandoned boats (eventually!) and we suspect they are taken to central spots (boat graveyards!) as you can see in episode 39

We see lots of abandoned boats along the way. Sad sights!

Boris boats
When you get something round your prop, go into reverse it normally kicks it off, the longer you don't the more entangled it gets.

Thanks for your comment. Yes that’s always the first thing we do. Sadly it doesn’t always work. 👍❤️
You can tell Sadiq Khan has passed by heading into the city, can't blame him not using the Underground with all those deadly gases in there.

Canals are pretty much the same as the rest of the country going down the drain
Hi Jack thanks for taking the time to message us and for your comment. Yes it's a very sad state of affairs we see now.
Great film that guys 👌 must be good boating through London 👍
Hi.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment.
Yes it was great to take our boat into central London, Back into the sticks now! 👍❤️
Here in the states we call that 'Duck Weed'. Very hard to get rid off.
Hi Charles
Yes your right it’s called Duckweed here too.
😱 (Dot)
The duckweed has quite a market, it can be churned right into the garden. Sad that it has plastic.
Yes we thought exactly that about using it on the garden sadly not.
Oh well, that was easy because I thought you were going to have to swim under the boat😮
Ha ha love it. Don't think you'd want to go for a swim in that!!! Thanks Tony for dropping us a comment.
People in London, get a boat then Moor up, cheaper living when you work there, if they all moved about regular then weed might go down, but they don't because they don't want to lose their space

Thanks interesting. From New York
Your very welcome x
Yes the crt are doing a good job keeping the weed down is a never ending job unfortunately good video
We decided it would be such a challenging job to do because as you go over one section it just fills back in again.... argh!!! But yes we agree they do a great job. Thanks for your comment. x
I hope your boat is ULEZ compliant.
Love the comment Jesse, sadly we don't think so....
Try getting a bloody crayfish net off the propeller, mid winter...🤬🥶
Eek that does not sound like fun at all.... all that cold water. That would not be Michael's top task let me tell you... ha ha x
Are there lots of mosquitoes in the canals?
Hi there, no not really. You might get a few in the height of the summer if its really hot and muggy. Thanks for the great comment.
@@cruisingontheborder the bubbling isn't to put oxygen in the water it is form a barrage to try to stop the weed getting to Paddington basin
Another great interesting video. Thank you.
Hi John,
Glad you like our latest episode. There was a lot to see in that one!
Take care 👍❤️
Is the weed-removal boat called Sisyphus?

Is that weed what they call duckweed, it spreads like crazy? thanks for your vids.
Hi Paul yes totally spreads its incredible. Thanks for the comment.
The first thing you should do if you get something around your prop is put it into reverse to try and get it off
Hi Michael.
Yes that is of course always the first thing we do.

Beware in the Manchester area canals because of “Cottagers cove” gay cruising area close to Canal St (Manchester gay village)
Sadly we missed the section of the network, maybe this year when we go back across the Leeds & Liverpool. Thanks for your comment.
I would have caught the coot and checked if it had fishing line stuck on its foot...or took it to a vet.
Hi thanks for taking the time to comment. We didn't think of that, I think we would off been worried about distressing it, it was moving ok in the water and didn't seem unhappy with life. J&M
Worked on the Regent Street upgrading a bridge deck over the regents canal into and on New Years day, an amazing experience…great video, take care both👍🏼
Hi again.
Wow you certainly worked in some amazing places on some very interesting projects!
We loved the area around the Regents canal. 👍❤️
Did I miss the bullying and aggression section?
Ah ah, maybe have a look again... it was the little birds towards the end bullying the one that had the poorly leg and was hopping along the canal bank. Hmmm maybe a play on words on our part but it was very sad to see. Hope you are watching some of our other videos. Thanks for dropping us a comment. Jackie & Michael x
Glad to see the CRT are oxygenating the water. That invasive weed surely cuts off the air and traps gasses. Fish and water creatures would die.
Yes it’s so good to see and totally necessary with there being very limited boat movement on these sections. Thanks for the comment x
That must be a nightmare all that sludge. Does it all stick to the bow as well ? Great vlog and cruise. Best wishes
Hi Trevor
Fortunately the duckweed doesn’t stick to the bow. It’s just the plastic bags that stick to the propellor!! Grrr 😜👍❤️
The pea soup is called duck weed it grows very quickly ie in 24 hours.
Hi Pauline.
Thanks for taking the time to leave us a comment. We knew the “pea soup’ is duckweed. There was so much of it, it was hard to see the contours of the canal at times. 👍
Love the music on this one 👍👍👍

Many boats are in need of repairs and fresh paint.
Hi yes you make a really interesting point, there were many on this area of the network.
How much was the mooring fee? Do you book it through CRT? Are there any free mooring spots?
Keep the comments coming. xx

When you said you were going in, I thought you meant the canal.
Hi Richard.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment.
Goodness no. That’s the last place I’d want to end up! 👍❤️
KNOWN FACT.
Your correct my friend!
😄❤️
Nice seeing it again. We were there in April and we took the boat ride from Little Venice to Hampton
Great canal to cruise on, so much to look at. Hope you enjoyed your little trip. Thanks for taking the time to drop us a comment. xx
@@cruisingontheborder Yes walking along the Paddington basin to litlle Venice was quiet nice and seeing i later from the boat perspective was something different. I wold have loved to see the bridges in the basin moved, but that didn't happen.
Where does the weed come from? Surly it can’t grow as fast as it’s removed..
I think the Pea Soup guy could do with a bigger boat ? ..... maybe a barge with a crane with one of those grab buckets ....
Hi Jerry.
We think no matter what size the ‘pea soup’ duckweed boat was it still wouldn’t be able to cope. They were trying hard which was good to see.
Hope all is well with you Jerry. Take care 👍❤️
Dead Swan probably succumbed to bird flu. 😢
So sad and that’s not the first time we’ve heard this. We understand now you should report it to the RSPB. Thanks for you comment 💕

Just wondering... Do you guys have to pay Kahns tax to enter greater London ? :-)
Hi.
Thanks for your comment.
No we don’t fortunately. 👍
In the US we have places like that, except it's called a low income trailer park with trailer trash.
I guess even if it goes to landfill it is still a product that will rot and isn't harmful to the plant in the process of rotting.

You call them canals we call them creeks, narrow shallow and stinks ,you can have it I'll take the great lakes any day.
We would love to see the Great Lakes, very very different to our cute and small canals. Which Great Lake are you closest to??
All that green weed is caused by over nutrient water coming from somewhere most likely some local farms, dairy farm or pig farm run off could be the culprit but it could be any number of things, the orthoritys must find the source or the nutrients,
Hi
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment.
Thanks again Jill and do take care 👍❤️
if the duck weed boat would slow down he'd get a lot more done
😢😢😢
Aggression, nasty people, A holes etc- anyone would think you were in the London area! 😅
Hi
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment.
London certainly was an interesting place!
👍❤️
Surely farmers would want that weed even with a bit of plastic in its better than cheicals
Chemicals what a waste
Hi Mike.
Thanks for your comments re the weed. We were a little surprised that it all went to landfill but it’s a toxic growth so probs the best place for it I guess
👍❤️
The weed in my pond is thr best thing for the garden I'm wondering whats the differance
Britain is broken
Dead birds, plastic drums in the canal, weed that cannot be used due to plastic
I would be asking the environment agency "why cannot you take out the plastic" in the process
Thankfully not all stretches of the canal are light that, this was a total one off. Thank you for taking the time to drop us a comment, we love hearing from everyone.
Sadly seeing dead Swans 🦢 is more common, I’ve seen two recently up here in Northamptonshire due to bird flu :(
Hi.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment.
Yes we saw several in London on the Paddington arm. As you say, it was an outbreak of bird flu. A sad sight.
We hope you’re enjoying our channel. We post a new video every Wednesday!
Take care 👍❤️
Good luck with your own channel too.
I too (M) have tinnitus.. it’s not pleasant!
Take care.
@@cruisingontheborder yeah I’m getting used to it a little better. Doesn’t affect my life too much lol I’ll subscribe as only just found your channel.
Thanks. We will do the same. And good luck. 👍
Community service doing their job litter picking on behalf of a court order. 😂😂😂😂
Hi Andy thanks for your comment. They were doing a great job and making such a difference but it must be a continual task!
@@cruisingontheborder Only joking keep up the content I like your videos. I live near the canals in Middlewich so it's nice to follow boating adventures like yours
I have to ask why isnt there a a requirement to get old damaged boats out of the water by the environment agency.
Is the green algae from run off from septic systems?
Hi thanks for the question. We think it builds up naturally on the canals when there is little movement by boats on the network. We have seen it elsewhere on the system. We know it has to go to landfill which is not great.
Hope the mayor doesn't put ulez cameras up🤔😆😆😆😆
Hi Paul thanks 🙏 for your comment… that would make life fun on the waterways if that happened 🤣🤣
I would of scooped the dead swan out the water, bagged it bless it and binned it , save the canal you all use from getting more contaminated and kill more wild life I've seen many sailing vessels throwing wrong stuff in canals
Hi Robert.
Thank you so much for your comments and the suggestion about the dead swan.
Sometimes it’s very difficult to reach them when we’ve travelling along. It’s very sad to see.
We hope you continue to enjoy our videos. It’s a pleasure to be able to share them. We love creating them, they give us so many happy memories of our UK boat adventures. 😀
The waterways should be fined allowing this weed to accumulate like this - it’s the roots under underneath that is the problem for wild life and boaters alike 😢
Hi Bessie.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment.
You make a good point about the waterways. The CRT were trying to get rid of the weed which mainly on this occasion was floating and growing on the top of the water. Very difficult to control 👍❤️
Hope that was a "Gordon's Gin" :-)
Ha ha Scott, it is Michael own mix and we love it, nice and spicy.
I'll bet those bloody coots did for that sunken yacht.
Hi Mark.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment.
I’ll bet your right. Drilling holes in the poor yacht with all that pent up aggression. That’s why they have a white mark on their heads.. yacht gelcoat!
👍❤️🤣🤣🤣
I would die in that messy water too. RIP Poor Swan. That is disgusting looking water…don’t you all pay for some agency to keep the waterways clean?
Hi
Thank you for your comment.
We do pay a licence and the CRT try to keep the canals clean but they are fighting a loosing battle sometimes.
