Great to see you giving some Homebrew games a look! All great games! - The reason there's so many adventure games on the GB is because of the game engine called GB Studio which lets you make them easily using a drag and drop visual interface.

I assume the reason GB/GBC is getting so many adventure games is because of GB Studio, which is like RPG Maker for Game Boy. Notice how the text boxes have the same sliding animations across the different games. But it looks like they created some really unique games still. Also GB Studio got updated with more genres, maybe we will see some more variety soon.

I had never gotten a new game for an old console... but after watching this video I will! I just gotta save up some money! I think an interesting facet of videogames is that the physical side of this medium does make a difference. Even when you get a new pc that runs a new digital game, you're always impressed with what your new hardware can do. Everyone still focuses on the hardware, to an extent. I mean, the material used in a sculpture or the instrument used in a piece of music changes how we percieve that work of art. Ditto for hardware. The hardware a game is designed for is its "canvas," so to speak. And to use a retro "canvas" is an amazing idea. And to further have a physical cartridge that you put into a physical device enhances a gamer's immersion. I think this is because of the transition from "this world" to a "virtual world" that such an act provides. Anyway.... I'm rambling a bit... Thank you Metal Jesus for always highlighting projects like this! And thank you for always highlighting the physical side to this digital medium. Whether you're focused on feelies from big box pc games, retro hardware, new games for retro hardware, or projects like the Evercade, you help the rest of us appreciate videogames in a new way!

@@MetalJesusRocks Oh no. They absolutely are not. But let's be serious, the first game is a port of a classic. No innovation in gameplay AND no graphical enhancement makes this lazy and uninspired.

Then in this video, you did this again man. I just almost cried because of the memories I have playing Chips Challenge with my brother at the public library. Not that he's passed but the reason we were at the library is very personal and I'd rather not share. I could never remember the name of the game and I always think about those moments in the public library with my brother playing that game when I was 7 yrs old. I just sent this to my brother and he said he remembers too and was saying how much that game meant to him too. Jfc, you are the most metalist Jesus ever. Man that game is incredible. What would be really cool is if someone came up with some game genie codes for these new games…. At least for the game boy ones. Though to be honest I’m not even sure if my game genie works on my analogue pocket, I have not tried it.

I think making games for retro handhelds is a great venture. Vintage handheld consoles were so popular even in the early days which is why it's not hard to get one at a decent price. I think it could be a bit of a tall order to ask someone to get into NES gaming if they don't already have a console.

Out of these games I've played and completed three. Pine Creek was good: lots of mystery, variety in environs, good (albeit often salty) dialogue, many cool ideas and concepts, a game world that feels alive, kinda Twin Peaks loveletter, if one likes that kinda thing.
Deadeus was good, but not quite as high up, maybe a bit more... static in some regards.
However, 'The year after' is poetry! Beautiful, emotional (albeit linear) journey, not a gram of unnecessary fluff in it; 5 stars from me. (Not a long game though.)
(Despite the 'no fluff' it also has an experimental sound queue feature for extra sound effect, I didn't try that myself though.)
Once on itch, I had a bit of a chat with the creator. Thought he was really nice. Happy for his achievement, Incube8 picking it up for publishing, I mean.
