Great real world review and not just specs. It's the gateway camera for sure. I originally switched from DSLR setup to the Q2 and within 2 years got the M11. Have both currently Love the Q series but also like the M11 (for different reasons). It's an amazing camera and if anyone is used to shooting at that focal length / shooting that wide, it's really the go to camera. It's the perfect combo setup imo having a M and a Q camera.
Really great review! One of the best I've seen on the Q3 so far! Really enjoyed this and got a great sense of the camera, it's quality and user experience from watching this video! Thank you!

It is a circle of life issue: now in my 70s, my eyes are worse and my needs from a camera have shifted, allowing a little more emphasis on ease with just a bit less emphasis on max capability (as being able to change lenses would provide). So for me, the Q3 would have been the super mac-daddy camera of my dreams when I bought my first Kodak Brownie at age 7. @@AndrewHardacre Much as I like my manual focus (I manual focus with M lenses on both my CL and SL2s often , rather than use the native AF lenses ) .Sometimes though AF is what you need .Sometimes I want an easy day. My only doubt is that up to now Leica AF hasn`t been good. Its one of the reasons that I don`t use my SL2s as often as I should (apart from the fact that its heavy). I`m hoping that the AF on the Q3 will be better. Not up to the standard of the big three may be but better than Leica has produced up to now.
I like your style, no long-winded intros, straight to the point. Thanks. One question about the Q3. Many of the shots in the video seemed over-exposed. Were you using exposure compensation at all?
Thanks! I was using the built in metering without compensation. Which usually I account for -.7 on my M10. So unfortunately most of the shots were overexposed. The Q3, like all Leicas needs to be shot underexposed.
Great video. This will be my next Leica camera. My wife and I just retired and plan on traveling. This will be the perfect camera quality, lightweight, and easy of use. 😀
Oh for Gods sake, I convinced myself not to get a Q3........and then I stumble upon your video!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhh! I wish you people would leave us alone. I now have to re-convince myself I do not need a Q3! ;)
thanks for a great video, what's the setup on streetphoto, fairly new to the camera, can see you're using autofocus, and hits the spot, even if it's very close, nice job👍👍
You're video cemented my decision to upgrade from a Q (type116) to a Q3. I'd like to also purchase a M11-P. IMO I feel its good to have an AF camera to compliment a manual focus camera. I think the Q3 would be a great walkaway camera.
I didn’t have the shirt but I took my Leica q around Montreal a few weeks ago and shot it exactly like you were doing here, it was a lot of fun. saint laurent, st Catherine, old port, others. Thanks for the great videos.
Just got home from a month in Italy, Turkey, and Greece. My new Q3 was the only piece of photo gear I took with me. Amazing camera. I think I am going to sell everything else. And by "everything else" I mean a s--t ton of gear.
Own the Q3 before had the Q2, though I feel that I should've kept my Q2 and call it a day. The AF on the A2 wasn't . But the more I shoot with my M11, the more I'm disliking the fully automatic shooting experience. Today the camera that's providing the upmost joy is the M11. Nonetheless it's a great camera, but if I had no camera I will go for a Used Q2 for almost half of the cost of the Q3. GAS got me.
Great actual-use review 😎Thank you 🙏 your comments regarding hybrid/electronic shutter, makes sense: e.g. hybrid/electronic shutter on the M11Monochrom is not to be trusted. Is the colour profile different between the M 11 and the Q3? Any distorting effects from the lens? I read elsewhere that it is more like a 24 mm with post processing correction and exhibits some distortion. Thanks again 🙏
Thanks! It would be tough to say what the differences are given the fact that I could never do a direct comparison with the same lens. I'm sure that the Maestro IV processor has a lot to do with the improvements in color I'm seeing over the M11's Maestro III. Couldn't tell you how much the distortion the lens has because the DNG has all the lens corrections applied at the source, there isn't even a lens profile in Lightroom. The lens feels like a 28mm imho, would love to see if it is actually wider but it doesn't feel like it.
1. Have you tethered with it? That's a very welcome addition for client ad shoots instead of bringing a 28 prime for the SL2 if it works well. 2. Do you notice an improvement in AF with the phase/contrast hybrid? 3. Is the wireless charging fast/convenient for practical use or a feature sell?
Didn’t shoot tethered, and the camera was getting the shots more in focus in complicated situations with af-c on. The wireless charging seems more like a gimmick (it takes 3 hours to charge it) and you need to buy the grip and pad to use it. Cheers!
The original Q was my first Leica, then I got a Q2. Now I have an M10. Really is a gateway. Might get one of these to replace the X100V in my rotation next year after the dust settles
Great review but there's one thing I haven't seen and I wish they come out with the hot shoe thumb support that can mounted on the camera and add the flash transmitter or a flash by it self on top of it.

Disagree on it being EDC or inconspicuous or a travel camera. Side by side with an M11 it is almost the same size, put a small lens on M11 and you get the same size weight camera of course missing AF. It is not compact and there are many other lighter and smaller body cameras as EDC, travel or inconspicous. D-Lux 8 definitely is all of the above. It is a great camera I agree. Anyone who hasnt seen this camera I suggest if you have access to a Leica store or you can rent one try that first. If money is no object of course go for it. With Leica you also lose money. Check used Leica prices and you see that. But in any case great video showing its capabilities and the AF of course. Thanks
Other way around for me .I`ve been shooting M for thirty years and indeed have just bought a 246 . I guess if you`ve never shot with an M it may well be a gateway but like I said I went through that gateway 30 years ago .The Q appeals to me as a colour option to the 246 . Good review.
Sorry if someone already asked but what were your autofocus settings on these? I saw that you were using continuous but what was the AF type? Field? Multi-field? Tracking?

Lol actually the Q 3 is better for ppl who don’t compose well. 28 mm require aesthetic to use and 60mp makes it much easier to just crop it into a 50mm if u mess up.

Thanks for watching, and good catch! The color depth in the M11 is definitely greater than the M10. But the colors are more muted and “digital” than the M11. So that said I prefer the saturated colors from the M10. Cheers!
Thanks for explanation.. Totally agree with you. I'm sure you wanted to say "M11 colors are more muted and “digital” than the M10" :) Personally I prefer couloirs on M11. Cheers
hello, and congratulations on the beautiful video. I am also a "generic photographer", I love to travel and obviously photograph, with a predilection for street photography. I’ve always been fascinated by the Leica world but I’ve never been closer to it than I have now seen the new q3. I currently own a Sony a7iii with sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN art, and Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD. The latter is very nice but just as heavy to carry around. Could this new Q3 replace my current equipment? Basically, how about I sell everything and take this new Q3? Thank you
Composition is less important with a 28mm autofocus ... Really. Well Sony does a 28mm E mount lens. Oh and yes autofocus is amazing, it was already amazing in the 90s with my EOS 3 (which is still probably the best SLR AF ever) but now it has become ridiculously good. Hey man, no hate there, I own an M6 TTL and Canons of 3 generations including an R5. But I would never shoot a wedding with manual focus because nostalgia is good sometimes but so is progress. By the way, waist or overhead shooting abilities have existed for at least 50 years with DLRs or the original Nikon F. It is a nice thing to have and having options is better than not having options. I remember when pro photographers criticised Nikon when it made the first pro grade SLR with evaluative metering, the Nikon FA. Photographers ignored it because they preferred their spot metering and therefore continued to use their FMs and F3s... But the evaluative metering could be switched to spot with a button so what was the fuss about? I still don't understand.
My former roommate who is ver pretty and has no idea how to use a camera only uses her iPhone to take photos, but she would buy the Q3 if she had the money, just to wear it on her shoulder as a status symbol…… which just highlights some of the many uses of the Q3 as a daily camera. You can use it as a fashion statement
Calling a Leica Q3 your ultimate daily carry is like calling your Rolex a beater watch or your Rolls Royce just a ride you use to go to the store for snacks late at night.
22:30 Fuji’s uses a dr400 dynamic range mode that trades some black dr for retaining about 3-5 stops of highlight dr. Leica need to adopt this, it’s all done is software so that you shoot at a normal exposure, but the camera underexposes the image while boosting the mids and shadow. Yup, exactly what you do in LR. It in camera. So no underexposed images in the back of your camera to save highlights No clipped images Jus a BALANCED dr for BOTH highlights and shadows. 22:39 that’s called cope! 😮😂
No, you can NOT put a threaded shutter release cable onto the Q3. That thread in the shutter lelease button is just fake and you can only thread in a decorative buton. Thats is.
Too bad this camera’s LCD panel (as expensive as this camera is) is limited to only up and down LCD instead of adding the side flip. Could it be that Leica did NOT want this camera used for vlogging? As badly as I want the q3, I can’t justify purchasing the q3 and having to spend an additional $1,000 plus or minus for a vlogging camera
SL line look great, but I’m holding onto the m10 until there’s a Q with an M mount or an M with an evf - it will happen where else has Leica to go after the M11? It’s maxed out on specs, what else would anyone want in an M, Leica surely can’t move the red dot 1cm to the left call it an M12 and add an extra $1k can they? 😂
The reviewer seemed to have an issue with the camera before he started to utilize or review the camera. Why review something you do not believe in? How is having a tilt screen a bad addition? How is having the ability to see your screen from more positions not adding value to the camera or experience? If you want to have problems with the camera, you should not have reviewed it and damaged other people’s view of the product with a bias. Nothing will impress you, when you want to have an issue with a product. No matter how good the overall product is, you will see more negatives and downgrade the positives.
22:58 Stop the cope. Get a fuji so that you don’t have to justify garbage handling of clipped highlights and make excuses like “there’s some nay pixels”,,, yeah, all blown!
Again, Fuji has not even implemented highlight weighted metering yet. Whats up with that? And the Fuji AF is a joke. Have had three Fujis (still have the x100v). The AF is not precise. Try to take three images with AF, and they are all different focused. Even the old Q from 2015 nails it better.
To pay $6000.00 to have an ' everyday ' camera? No thanks. Any little MFT camera from Olympus, or Panasonic will do the same job with more versatilty, for a fraction of the price, and you don't need to constantlly look over your shoulder, just in case. You do not need 60MP, coupled to a Summicron lens to do ' everyday ' photography. Indulgence, that is another matter? And before people start the insults, I am a Leica man, I have three of them. They are serious tools for serious photography.
They are not serious tools for serious photography. They are cameras like any other camera. The brand like many other prestige brands taylor for customers who want prestige. And I don’t believe you would be a Leica man making your comment. Lol
@@walkingmanvideo9455 What prestiege? A camera that is in the hands of every Tom, Dick or Harry, who has seen fit to overload the credit card? Yep, I guess now I understand prestiege. YOu can laugh as much as as you can, but it will be only at yourself.
How many Panasonic or Olympus mft cameras will do the same job as a full frame 60mp camera with a 28mm f1.7 lens? Which mft sensor has this kind of dynamic range and resolution? I wasn't aware that anyone made a 14mm f0.7 mft lens. Next you'll say you don't need a GFX, a Nikon D810 will do the same job for less money.

Is that so or I'm confused..?? Please let me know.. Great review by the way.. Looks like Q3 a great tool .. Cheers ..
Cheers
@@jjjoooojjj oh yes! You knew what I meant lol. The M11 is very forgiving
Very good.
hello, and congratulations on the beautiful video.
Pity it's out of my price range because the picture quality and especially the dynamic range on that thing is impressive.
How does this compare with Sony A7RV
My former roommate who is ver pretty and has no idea how to use a camera only uses her iPhone to take photos, but she would buy the Q3 if she had the money, just to wear it on her shoulder as a status symbol…… which just highlights some of the many uses of the Q3 as a daily camera. You can use it as a fashion statement
How can I actually get one? They'd sold out or on back order everywhere I look
Backorder it.
Calling a Leica Q3 your ultimate daily carry is like calling your Rolex a beater watch or your Rolls Royce just a ride you use to go to the store for snacks late at night.

Fuji’s uses a dr400 dynamic range mode that trades some black dr for retaining about 3-5 stops of highlight dr. Leica need to adopt this, it’s all done is software so that you shoot at a normal exposure, but the camera underexposes the image while boosting the mids and shadow. Yup, exactly what you do in LR. It in camera.
So no underexposed images in the back of your camera to save highlights
No clipped images
Jus a BALANCED dr for BOTH highlights and shadows.
22:39 that’s called cope! 😮😂
I'm always concerned about framing. Give me the articulating screen
Montreal is an affluent city.
❤nice
I already commission my M10 system together with its lenses, now upon watching this, I am back contemplating in getting this Q3. £5,300 T_T
Stick to M! Q is a good side camera but it can’t replace a rangefinder
@@GenericPhotographer l figured I may only need a Q3 more because of my lifestyle. If i have the extra money sure M11 is great😅
i wonder what the ultimate tourist camera is
Only 1/2000 fastest shutter speed with a 1.7 lens?
No, you can NOT put a threaded shutter release cable onto the Q3. That thread in the shutter lelease button is just fake and you can only thread in a decorative buton. Thats is.
Okay, so it’s bling port ✨
Too bad this camera’s LCD panel (as expensive as this camera is) is limited to only up and down LCD instead of adding the side flip. Could it be that Leica did NOT want this camera used for vlogging? As badly as I want the q3, I can’t justify purchasing the q3 and having to spend an additional $1,000 plus or minus for a vlogging camera
I am on waiting glist with credit cards all over. Cant wait to get on no one has them.
I hope you get your hands on one soon!
me too LOOL but hey I have 5 cameras so it is all good q2 monochrome and Fuji 100v is good options until then also sony a7r5 and 2 more fuji
The camera looked like a good street camera it was only you that looked the tourist
So wish for a Q with an M mount.
The SL is a good substitute if you can get past the size
It cannot be done. You would lose the leaf shutter. And the the lenses would be as big as the SL system. So just go for the SL ;)

… except blown highlights at over $6K
Just use the highlight priority metering then. Or learn to expose correct. Nothing to do with the price - only the skills...
Two things, make the Q3 a chrome body. Two make it a fully articulating screen.
🙏
The fastest electronic shutter is 1/16,000 s.
I though so too, I’m assuming the model
I was using was preproduction, the evf wasn’t 100% clear in live view either.
The most expensive camera, if you have this camera money just don’t by it unless you’re making a ton of money out photographing.
What you did with the Profile? I can not find what you have chosen in minute 14. Where can I found or create that profile? @geneic Photographer
It's a tourists camera.
6000$ ultimate?
Depends where you tour
The reviewer seemed to have an issue with the camera before he started to utilize or review the camera. Why review something you do not believe in? How is having a tilt screen a bad addition? How is having the ability to see your screen from more positions not adding value to the camera or experience? If you want to have problems with the camera, you should not have reviewed it and damaged other people’s view of the product with a bias. Nothing will impress you, when you want to have an issue with a product. No matter how good the overall product is, you will see more negatives and downgrade the positives.
If I based my decision to get the Q3 from your photos - no thanks.
Aluminum ≠ Magnesium
Ok Highlight is 60 MP and a good lens ….. the sensor is Sony …. Why 6.000 plus € ??? How about Sony and Fuji ? Why Leica ??
Panoramic crop please leica
2023 X-Pan confirmed 🌞
@@GenericPhotographer where ?
@@pixelmixture3067 if it did the panoramic crop it would be!

Stop the cope.
5:59 Poor dynamic range
Sloppy shooting
Lol
"I can't afford it" would have been faster to type.
@@JeffLombardo LOL, so true.
