    I’ve been a redhead most of my adult life. I started going gray in my early 30’s. Do to the COVID 19 I couldn’t go to the Solon. After 8 weeks my hair grew out enough so I could see how silver my hair had gone! I love it. So I decided to stop hiding and shine! I’m 69 and have a very busy life, this will give me way more time and its really fun. Thanks Nicole, for the encouragement.

    I have gone through the silver journey over 2 years ago. It was hard used lots of powders and sprays to help hide the demarcation. Then I cut my hair in a pixie to cut off all the dyed color. I can tell you that I get more positive comments with my salt & pepper hair then I ever did with my dyed hair! Ladies it's liberating!

    • @littleme3597
      @littleme3597 5 лет назад +2

      Excellent! Most of us can tell, who dyes their hair. Not a secret. I especially hate the black hair dye on older faces and that white area on top..that grows out! Then the phony red. Who ever started that? Henna/burgandy. Natural anything is so much better! The real thing.

      @@littleme3597 Not everybody looks good with gray! Yes it's a fact of life, we will all grow gray but I'm not jumping on the gray train just because it's having a moment. SOME people look good in gray and some people (like me) do not and will not look good with gray. Gray looks awesome on Nikol, but it looks weird dreary bland on many others, so look at women who look Great in Gray and see if you kind of "look" a little like them, i.e., complexion, bone structure, brows, a silver tone looks much better than the gray/ blonde look (which is iffy on a lot of women) IMO, IMO of course.

      I know exactly how you feel. I started my transition 18 months ago. I had very long hair and after 6 months I cut it into a bob. At 11 months I couldn't take it anymore, so I bit the bullet and had it cut very short. Now I'm just waiting for it to grow longer. I live in a small town and have had no positive comments. Most of my family doesn't even approve of it, however they live far away. So who cares what other people think? The funniest thing is that is when I run into someone that I haven't seen for quite some time, that they have absolutely no idea who I am. I had fun with this. ;) The sad thing is that it made me realize that they only defined me by my hair.

    • @ew4932
      @ew4932 4 года назад +3

      @@t.s.5206 This isn't just about having a "moment". It's about embracing the real you. My own sister made up excuses why she wouldn't do it. She finally said that she wasn't ready to be a gray woman yet. She thinks that she will look old. Mind you she is only 16 months younger than I am, and has an 8-year-old son. I suppose that everyone needs their own time to make the decision. Gray hair can look good on anyone. You just need a good styled cut, change your makeup and wardrobe colors a bit.

    Your hair and your whole look is fantastic! I grew mine out last year, and while I have since dyed it copper red, I was so grateful and so happy to have taken a year of not having any chemical color on my hair. And now I know that I can do it again any time I want. Your earlier, transitional video really inspired me at the time, and if I ever grow out my silver again, I’ll be back to see how you’re doing. My last visit to the salon was a mix of emotions, walked in and told my stylist to do a pixie cut. She looked puzzled and confused at me and asked me if I was ok. At the moment I'm rocking a pixie and I'm loving it.

    I’m 28 and started going gray a few years ago. The last year it has flourished the most, I’ve decided to let it grow out and it’s been almost a year now of natural hair! Everyone is so surprised at how young I am with gray hair but they usually love it! I have noticed by letting it grow, it is easier to manage. One issue I had is that it would kink up from being such a different texture when it started growing out but now that it’s longer, it’s so much more manageable. Cheers to embracing a natural process!

    You are amazing and so beautiful, I decided to stop dying my hair about 4 or 5 years ago, my daughter is a hair dresser and told me to stop because I was damaging my hair, so I did, I didn't have a lot of gray just enough that I thought it needed to be covered. So I stopped dying it and cut it short and I have never regretted that decision, and I have gotten more compliments about how beautiful my gray hair is, and if they had my color of gray hair they would stop dying theirs. It really is liberating, and I love it, thank you for all of your beauty tips, I am a woman that is 61, and does not look my age even with my gray hair. What a great video. I've been going gray since I was 14, but I just turned 36 and its really filling out and I started changing the way I look at myself. I've never not liked it, never tried to dye it, but getting older, hearing some negative comments, even though I get a lot of good ones, they start to eat away at the confidence. I just watched this a second time. Nikol you are so uplifting and inspiring. Thank you. I'm 57 years old and 4 months into my transition. I thought that I would have more gray/silver hair than I do. Most of my grays are on top of my head with not that much around my face or underneath. I'm S&P with mostly pepper but you know what...I love it. This way I'll get to see myself with my natural S&P and then watch myself grow gray gradually. I'm mostly loving this journey but do have occasional days of "omg my hair looks a wreck". Luckily my husband and children are supportive.

    The year after I stopped highlighting I switched to demipermanent that was about the same as my natural color. It really has made the transition easier. Thank you so very much for your time & suggestions! Always so helpful!

    I get more compliments on my graying blonde hair than ever. Ppl think I pay money for this. I had a feeling I would rock it because my dad rocked his, and I look like him. My skin is youthful, so I feel like my hair gives me an air of sophistication that I otherwise lack! Plus I save hundreds of dollars each year. Lol

    When I first saw you on You Tube, I thought (about your hair and you, specifically)”My! Nikon is artistic! Look at her hair on its own! The way the white contrasts against the coal black! She’s an artist!” That was my very first, flash impression of you, Nikol. And as I followed you and learned more about you as a person, I found that you were a makeup artist, a model, etc., etc. And I was inspired to know more about you just because of your hair. By the way, you have inspired me to grow out my dyed hair and I am so excited at the mere aspect of doing this! Thanks Nikol and all the best to you!

    You are on my vision board. I'm 45 and I let my gray grow out a little over a year ago. My hair is maybe a little more gray than yours. I was asked if I was worried about looking "old". Even my 9 year old told me I had grandma hair. But you know what...I love my hair. I love how many compliments I get. I love how many women are inspired to just have fun with their hair. I love it. I love that my hair is mine and it is what it is because that's what I want and not what society says I should have. I went cold turkey with my transition too except I had dark red hair. My husband called it fire and ice. He was very supportive too which helped a lot. Thanks for your videos. I love watching your channel.

    Nikol, Thank you for taking your time to have this kind of conversation that helps women to go to the transition with more knowledge. Let me tell you I wish I should have started earlier leaving my grays out. Is fashionable but most of all my hair looks fuller and healthier.

    I’m 69, still look pretty good for my age. I’ve been dying my hair since I was 14 years old. You’ve inspired me to take the plunge, so I started to grow my gray hair out. I have about 2 inches of gray now, I’m loving it, thank you for all of the positive information, you are a beautiful woman, love your gray.

    I virtually had no angst once I decided to go natural. I was impatient...because you can't tell what your true color will be till all the dye is off. Because the dye reflects back on the the natural color. Yeah...you get an idea...but until all the color is off...then you get to see the real silvers. I LOVE mine! I am so happy I made this journey. It's more than about your hair. I promise so much more happens in this transition!

But this gives me hope, and I will find the right stylist who can teach me to condition and keep me in a fresh cut! I appreciate you and your empowerment!

And you're right it's a journey and I think I'm going to do a journal and maybe even share my journey. Yes this is what I'll do. Thank you.

    Low lights eased me into graying hair. Hair color did result in orange and damaged hair. I had my hair cut short and accepted my natural curl-iness. It is becoming silver and is very healthy. Nikki is making excellent suggestions and insights. I am beautiful as I am.

    I've been silver since I was 17, and I've loved it since the beginning. Everyone, including my mother who went grey around the same age, have told me for years to dye it and hide it because it "ages you". I've never understood what the problem with aging was and refused.

    Great channel! I was fed up with colouring and I was only doing it because it’s ‘wrong’ to show signs of ageing. I’d had enough and decided to take control, I signed up to raise money for a cancer charity by shaving my hair off. It’s been fun seeing it grow back and see my real hair colour.

    Thanks for this message. I went thru the change a year and a half ago due to an accident while running with my German Shepherd which resulted in some facial fractures. NO one was going to touch my face. So, decided it was time. I had been so apprehensive about the process, but really, my hair is in such great shape. No more combating the damage from all the processing on hair with texture. I have received more positive comments on my hair and looks than I ever have. Just do it, don't look back and embrace the freedom of being a natural woman.

    Thank you thank you thank you! About a year ago I told the wonderful guy who has been cutting my hair since 1987 that I was going to go grey. He said, “Oh, no. You’re not ready to go grey...” I said, “I’m not?” so I kept coloring it kind of half heartedly because I am ready to go grey and I really needed to hear your advice. It’s all good. I have watched other going grey videos but yours has given me a clear idea about how I feel and that it can be a great experience instead of something to fear or dread. 🙏💝

    This is a wise video. I last had my hair coloured (dark brown) just before xmas and got a pixie cut, removing all the coloured bits, this summer. My hair is now pewter grey and light silver all over. Personally I think it looks great and it is an absolute JOY to be free of hair dye and managing roots. I am 56 and most of my friends are the same age or a little older and all, bar one, has their hair coloured. The response has been mixed. Some of my friends also love it but it has made others deeply uncomfortable. Finally I realised that this was about them and not about me. You are right that there is a taboo around grey hair that is linked to a fear of ageing. I have broken it but I have also broken free of the artifice of dyed hair. No going back!

    Thank you for your video! I’ve just turned 30, and my hair is begun to turn gray. I never expected my hair to change this early on, and I’ve been going back and forth on whether, or not I want to dye it. I’ve been leaning more towards not, and some of your comments in this video helped confirm that I don’t want to dye it. I think it will end up growing out more evenly in the long run if I just leave it alone. Thank you for your tips!
