      Romance game FDEV style:
      1. Find guardian ruins
      2. Figure out a puzzle to get Guardian Thargoid Romance Device Part
      3. Farm 5000 jf those by repeating the same thing and board flipping
      4. Farm a Thargoid "romance hero" rank through feeding them with escape pods. Around 10000 pods will do. Maybe.
      5. Find a special romanceable Thargoid through searching for High romance signal in Thargoid infested system that has special "Thargoid mating" state
      6. Use a Thargoid Romance Device on Thargoid.
      After that Thargoid disappears and you get one line of the text changed in your interface to "in relationship with Thargoid" and one number going +1. You will never ever see that Thargoid ever again. That will in no way influence your gameplay.

    If you think this is bad try unlocking the human tech broker weapons.
    To unlock all 6 shock cannons you need about 150 units of technetium. At most any planet has about 1.5% Tc so you need to get enough you need to shoot about 650 rocks on a planet surface. Which takes about 24 hours of "play". The guardian weapons are easy to unlock in comparison.

    • @Random_Banshee
      @Random_Banshee 3 года назад +1

      Not even remotely. Within a few days of "grind" you can obtain just about anything, provided you use external tools like eddb to quickly find what you‘re looking for, or have a friend to guide you. For the material gathering there are logout methods (which i‘ve never used) that absolutely trivialize it, and even without those you just need to know where to look. The only grind related thing in elite that i find annoyingly time consuming are ranks, and travel times. But if you compare the time it takes to get a solid fully engineered ship, even a rank locked one with powerplay modules, to for example the time it takes to get a set of endgame gear in some mmo rpg (not p2w ones, only where you can‘t progress with money), elite "grind" is absolutely laughable.

    The personal narrative should have been, for example with the guardian unlocks, you get tasked to find them information from the guardian site at X. You know, the tired old RPG trope of fetch quest. Or pick a fragment from guardian site X. End.
    Edit: adding this as the overarching theory that I'd like to see this used for:
    Guardian wepaons should be how you, as a nonparticipating member for the original reveals, get involved in the guardian features that FD added that ARE wonderful set pieces, but otherwise redundant now.
    AX weapons should be how you get into the Thargoid setpieces.
    So you are tasked with going in to a guardian city to scan something about the guardians. Just go all Spock on it and "Mmmm. Interesting. Thank you for this, I may be back with questions later" even if you leave them hanging. Set up a "scan the thargoid as they visit a ruined placement, we suggest you send your ship elsewhere and go in your SRV, it is too small for them to want to combat it, and you're telepresenced anyway". Then up the chances of that thargoid beaming of the relic for the issued time period so they watch. Make someone "scan the guardian base when you put a thargoid probe in it" as a test. Heck, give the person a "unique thargoid pod".
    Make the "narrative" the breadcrumbs to the stuff FD did that almost everyone saw only on YT reveals. Then fake up a story as to why they're being sent to watch cutscenes.
    Guardian relic chunks should be basically mining opportunities, nothing more. You can pay for your blueprints by supplying the unique materials that they will "sell" to you and this will go to pay for the unlock. Doesn't matter what you get, cash it in and unlock. That's IF you want to keep guardian building chunks as a thing to get.
    I half get the idea that they got the above ideas from someone and it got "chinese wispered" into "personal narrative" as a meme name, then they forgot or lost what the meme was supposed to be for, so slapped something they already had to fill in the gaping chasm of gameplay left by the actual narrative idea's loss.

    this is what happens when a company gets a shiny new contract to make a shiny new game and decide to stop making new content for the old game and stretch what they have already done as far as possible to make it appear like its still being supported. not for the customers benefit save for a few skin sales but mainly so they can keep releasing shiny and impressive trailers for more potential investors to see.

    Agree with your assessment of the Guardian weps Yamiks. The fixed Gauss Cannon is the only real effective one you need for Thargoid hunting, that said, the Large fixed Shard Cannon is highly effective...in groups... One note though, when fighting Thargoids, the heat problems with the Gauss Cannon can be overcome with fitting beam laser turrets with thermal vent. Thargoids don't have chaff, and you can happily pound away at the Goid with the Gauss Cannons while the turrets keep you comfy cool.

    I have a question: if you unlock, let's say, a FSD booster once, is it unlocked for you forever? Or one unlock = one module? I hope for one unlock only otherwise i give up on this grindfest.
    Bonus question: when i unlock said module, can i buy it anywhere or just from the broker? My guess would be the broker

    • @karlmax1112
      @karlmax1112 6 лет назад

      When you unlocked the Booster you can buy it at any place with an Tech broker and only one unlock is required to buy it for as many ships as you want. It is the same for the weapons, but you have to unlock every grad and type one by one like Yamiks said in the video.

    Personal Narrative, without a doubt THE best joke Frontier have ever delivered haha!!! When it was first mentioned in a Frontier stream I got my hopes up, assuming that maybe this Personal Narrative would be the addition of some (much needed) form of individual story for the player. When I read on forums that the Guardian modules were this 'Personal Narrative' I thought to myself AS IF, Frontier would never class unlockable modules as narrative!!! When I realised they were right, my previously unshakeable belief and trust in Frontier was.......well and truly shook. Then I looked at how many of these Blueprints were needed to unlock these items!!! I unlocked a couple of weapons and then stopped playing Elite for 2 months, unsure if I'd play the game again until the Q4 update goes live. I've forgiven them again now, but I won't ever get my hopes up like that again. Then I shouldn't get disappointed (hopefully haha) o7 Commanders!!! P.S. Frontier please get Q4 right, the community could do without more let downs!!!

  • @dissectingdiy

    One of the things I find aggravating is that I can grind so much for these weapons and they don’t even outgun every other weapon in the game. Guardian tech should outdo everything in the game. It’s the whole point of grinding for it to the first place. Also the idea that the way you get something is by logging out and loggin in to the same exact site is not a good variety at all. They couldn’t think up of a puzzle solving system and a route through the guardian sites that are a mix of ship, SRV and on foot puzzles that would take some time but unlock everything? Neil Armstrong moments? Neil Armstrong moments didn’t consist of him getting back into the lem and back out again to refresh moon rock collection points.

      Thargoids are set to be non aggressive unless you drop in the USS in system under attack and even then its only in those with Scouts
      lone interceptors wont attack you unless you give them a reason - probably done that way because unless you are specifically fit to fight them AND know exactly what you are doing even Cyclops will hand you your ass on platter regardless of ship you are in

      Given the arbitrary limit of "four on the ship" why should the guardian versions not be better against human ships? Hey everyone, I'm a complete noob to this game (just purchased it yesterday) and wanted to get your opinions about what you think is the most enjoyable job class to take on. I've been considering smuggler/trader but I'm not sure. What do you guys think?

    • @TheYamiks
      @TheYamiks  6 лет назад +2

      I'd say you're opn the right path.. it's easy & rewarding. On addition you could pick up passenger missions BUT those require traveling a lot soo idk about how enjoyable that may be , STIL you'll see different places!

    • @genefactor007
      @genefactor007 6 лет назад

      Thanks so much for your suggestion. I've been doing more research so I'm thinking, to start, is go the trader route. Do legal stuff first until I've really got the nuances of the game down. From there perhaps some of the more darker/riskier stuff like smuggling. :)

    • @markhackett2302
      @markhackett2302 6 лет назад +1

      If you want to keep it fun, stick to the multipurpose for trading. Trade ships are fine and efficient but if you're interdicted they suck so hard you'll only ever find pain and suffering outside interdictions. T6 is a theoretical "good enough" but bigger than that and steering means interdiction takes "too long" to win and losing means you're too slow to run away. And giving up cargo even to NPC pirates sucks.
      Cobra 3, AspX (as good cargo as the T6, faster, stronger, better), Python.
      The Python hauls near as much as the T7, you have much better shields and you should carry weapons all the time if you're just having fun rather than optimising.
      If you REALLY want to go the smuggling route, the DBX will cut down on the opportunities for being yanked out of space and you can run it cold so often avoid being scanned too. The illegal smuggling thought is required, the cargo hold isn't enough to carry many legal missions.

    • @cmdrwraithe1857
      @cmdrwraithe1857 6 лет назад +1

      Eugene Johnson you can do it all. There is no class. In fact, you should expect to do at least a little of each to break up the monotony, but that's entirely up to you. In short, you play your way and you earn credits your way. Mission trading, "space trucking", got me started and is still something I do a lot of. Passenger missions will earn you a lot more money than that, though. On the combat side, bounty-hunting is ok and hunting in the RES sites can be fun. People used to do massacre missions and get a lot of creds, but the missions don't stack anymore now and they can take a while to do. There is also good money in exploring, but it takes preparation. I'm sure you'll do at least a little of each, though. When you run missions, they offer a mix of everything.

    • @genefactor007
      @genefactor007 6 лет назад

      Wow! Thanks so much for the advice, Mark! I've played the game off and on this weekend and I must say, the learning curve is rough. I did the training missions, some multiple times. Docking was the one I did a lot as I simply couldn't get the hang of the ship's controls. Angling it and maneuvering the ship in space dock is hard not to mention setting the darn thing down. I've gotten better so the old saying practice makes perfect seems to be ringing true. :) I can say I'm not a fan of space battles. To say I suck at that would be an understatement. I'll continue to practice at that as well but I know it's not a career I'll be undergoing in ED. But hey, you never know. As I play and get better (and more confident) who knows what I'll end up doing. So far I'm just having a lot of fun getting to know the game and learn how to properly do things. I named my little beginning vessel 'Beginner's Luck' and trust me, I'll need plenty of luck. Haha! Thanks again for your suggestions, Mark. May your skies be clear, my friend. (Christ I'm such a nerd). :)

      Turrets are underappreciated IMO. They don't do much damage but they also do less draw for heat and distributor. Overall their DPE is very good. The problem is that tradeships need something to hit REALLY heavy in a turret so they can put on on the back of the ship and while waiting for the FSD to cool down can maybe get the buggers to get lost. Rear facing missile turrets (though turrets need a lot more missiles OR cheaper missiles, same for torpedoes, both should be "last ditch" weapons of exigency for those hoping not to have to use them, at the moment they're only worth it for engineered special effects for some builds)

    • @markhackett2302
      @markhackett2302 6 лет назад

      Heck, if the T9 had Huge and Large at the back and the two small at the front, the T7 had large and two small at the front and the T6 had medium and two small at the front, then the oversized mounts could load turret versions and remain within spec of the best distributor and powerplant for the specialist traders and produce actual deterrent.

      TheYamiks I disagree. I dont think they'll ever change it. Ive only been playing a month or two, but almost everyone ive talked to is fine with the grind. Picking up a ship thats about the size of an aircraft carrier made for just bulldozing over other ships shouldnt be an easy thing in a game that's supposed to have a realistic economy. What almost everyonr ive met feels is that the story is the heart of the game. The idea of players deciding how the story goes is absolutely awesome to me. Sure its still a grind trying to make a difference, but its actually rewarding. I feel like getting new ships and modules is a silly thing for players to put their time towards. Especially when you can play for 2 months, (not even every night btw) and have a fully a rated and engineered eagle, cobra mk3, and a partially a rated type 7 without even really trying. The grind for ships sucks, so why not focus on the actually rewarding side of the game?

    • @NomadSoul76
      @NomadSoul76 6 лет назад

      Greg Specht you don't get to talk about realistic economies in this game. The risk/reward ratios are way off, and right now hauling freight pays more than high end combat. This is a world in which taxi drivers are significantly more highly paid than mercenary pilots, despite the mercenary pilot requiring far more expensive equipment.
      Imagine a world where it costs more to hail a cab to get across town than it does to hire an air Force pilot and his f22 along with a full bag of weapons. That's this realistic economy.

    • @gregspecht481
