    You've hit the nail on the head with the idea of getting the devs to stream unlocking all the guardian tech.
    I'd love to see that. Just to see what they think of the grind. And then let's see them unlocking all the engineers.

      For that you would also have to have them start out like everyone else though. With a sidewinder and next to no cash on hand.

      Just Palin. I'd be satisfied watching them have to go from Elvira to Palin. That alone should prove the point. If it doesn't then we point them to Selene.

    • @AgentWaltonSimons
      @AgentWaltonSimons 6 лет назад +8

      I'd say have them unlock all the Guardian tech _without third party tools or information_; have them do it purely using only the data in game.

    • @therealbahamut
      @therealbahamut 6 лет назад +1

      That'd be kind of a moot point since they probably already know the pertinent points; they DID put it in the game, after all.

    You are absolutely right. If I where their chef in the new canteen, I would make them eat oatmeal 3 times a day for 2 weeks straight to "earn" the right to have a peek onto a steak. While the right to eat the steak would come after collecting just 25 of the peek-rights.

    Regarding Personal Narrative: I think there's a big disconnect at FDev between how the game is designed vs how the game works. Maybe FDev doesn't intend for the player to relog to reset the structure puzzle, or to farm materials, and expects them to visit three different beacons & various sites for blueprints/materials. The issue is, of course, that relogging saves the player so much time and effort that it's always the optimal way to "play" the game. If they intend for players to relog, then that's bad design; if we give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they don't intend for players to relog, then they overestimate how much time & effort players are willing to put into their game. A game which already demands a lot of time and effort for poorly-scaled rewards, which leads to players commonly employing tactics like relogging and boardflipping.

    • @machinech183
      @machinech183 6 лет назад +2

      They know about this issue but it's a 2 part problem... 1) they don't give a shit about how people perceive the grind because 2) the grind and board flipped saves them having to put in THEIR time doing much. As long as they feel they're making enough out the game and its population they won't be motivated to anything more than the minimum.

    Here's my suggestion for how it should work:
    Unlock all guardian fighters -> Visit the guardian space thingy, shoot the three glowy things, and scan the center. That's it.
    Unlock all guardian modules -> Go to a guardian ground base, shoot the glowy things, and scan.
    Unlock guardian weapons -> Decode 3 guardian monoliths. Each one decoding unlocks one weapon, all sizes
    That's all it should be. A cool visit to the ancient aliens stuff. Not this annoying chore that requires you to relog.

  • @ReFriedNoodles

    This is the 5th time I've had to fly out to farm this year and my biggest gripe is the SRV.
    It is slow, gives me motion sickness and thanks to the low gravity on all of these guardian sites every sentinel knocks me over further adding to the slow down and nausea.
    Force Ed Lewis to unlock EVERY SINGLE Guardian weapon and module on stream from start to finish. If he isn't calling for blood after 3 hours I'll bake him a cake.

    • @rusher2937

      Protip: Bring a small ship (the DBX is good) covered with Point Defenses. They function even when the ship is supposedly "powered down" so if you park it in the middle of the site, it will shoot down the incoming missiles from the Guardian Sentinels. Just make sure it's a small ship because if you do what I did (I brought a Krait Phantom) it's too big to land close enough. Alternatively, you can strip down a Hauler to literally nothing but a flying SRV carrier for an even easier time landing.

    • @jeremiahbullfrog1844
      @jeremiahbullfrog1844 4 года назад

      They WANT it to frustrate you when you aren't paying attention. For instance, when those missiles are coming to your scv? You have a handbrake and the ability to fully pip your shields before it strikes (yeah but make sure you put full pips back to weapons when you continue firing). Bad luck traversing terrain? Try using your thrusters and see how fast you can go. I have been able to pull FULL speed with ease. Keep practicing!

    And this is the result of 100 Frontier developers working hard for a year. And now we hear that the Q4 update will be incomplete (missing 2 of the most wanted features) but it's ok because they've been working hard on 'Something' (tm) that we'll have to buy if we want. I agree with your favourite saying: what the fuck are they doing!!!

NMS did that and got loads of free advertising through the media and a lot even went back and re reviewed the game giving it a much better score. Are you happy with The Beyond??? It looked like Frontier were giving us an awesome free update, but there's no way they could have charged for what we've had. I've said I'd happily pay for updates if it meant we'd actually get some thing of substance. But now even the Premium has been put off till next year at some point in time (no doubt towards the end of 2019) The more they do this, the less players will still be around playing.

    What I don't get about this game sometimes is that it treats gameplay like a subscription based game but *isn't* one.
    They gain nothing by having repetitive gameplay elements like this, unlike in something like WoW where the longer it takes you to accomplish things the closer you get to your monthly subscription payment. Not that it's less annoying there but it at least makes *sense* .
    Here they have created a mind-numbing grind for what seems like no reason at all.

  • @grittynerd
    @grittynerd 6 лет назад +16

    The most irritating thing of that grind, for me, is having to "race" with the SRV. Driving in those was not bad enough in "normal" gameplay, they want us to run fast around uneven terrain. And fight things while doing it, bumping and being thrown around by the drone missiles from time to time. And as usual when you find something (like the things you must shoot at to activate) the HUD cannot mark it geographically (third millenium tech is not enough).
    What about more SVRs or different SRV offensive and defensive equipment, maybe do the mission with a fighter (the area is not big enough to go too far from your ship)? Maybe that grind would a bit better.
    The feeling (let's call it like this) is that planetary wise we still have zero-day features with our gear. That being still in an Horizons dev stage, you pay for access to planetary content, is sad.

    • @jeremiahbullfrog1844
      @jeremiahbullfrog1844 4 года назад

      There is an easy way of doing this with ease, we are just so impatient and don't want to wait for the right distance to strike a drone without it fighting back or learning to use upward thrusters to hover travel FAST across very uneven terrain, ever gone ATV'ing? You can catch some serious air and land with ease and if you dont, learn to side thruster? I absolutely realize how frustrating it can be when i rush this game. The word "Elite" and "Dangerous" are not to be taken lightly bruv... good luck commander.

    "Personal Narrative" looks to me like it's "We won't tell you go to planet A and get X and take to planet C and get Y, you will just find it in the course of normal play". Unfortunately there's no way the current tools allow that and since the stuff is in fixed places, there's no personal sleuthing to the whole process, making it "you have to find someone else to tell you".

  • @TheAfallon
    @TheAfallon 6 лет назад +9

    So far the guardian fighters are hardly worth the effort. Sure Lance packs a punch in hands of a skilled commander but you'll soon realise you are on fire and got no heat sinks. And if you think you'll use these fighters as swarm distractions as you'd use AX Taipans don't even bother unlocking them. They have hulls made of glass and die 5 seconds after you deploy them.

  • @robertrenato
    @robertrenato 6 лет назад +8

    Yep, Frontier pretty much screwed the game up for me. I never wanted to do these silly things, now that there are useful ship upgrades locked behind it, it`s even worse. Like punishing those who didn`t care about visiting the silly hidden sites, most of us only knew about from RUclips videos. Freaking No Man`s Sky has become more fun! Frontier should learn from that. Having our own NPC fleet? Sending them to trading misions, etc...Hmmm?

    • @davidentz7440
      @davidentz7440 6 лет назад +1

      South Paw When people say spacelegs and atmospheric landings they mean associated gameplay too. Not just a pair of walking legs. As for complaining, they had 4+ years to work on these things but instead spent time on things no one asked for like CQC and powerplay, and ridiculous time/resources spent trying to re-balancing weapons/shields when most people where totally fine with them.

    • @davidentz7440
      @davidentz7440 6 лет назад

      South Paw Because they work on things in advance. There are video clips of them trying space legs with a floating pilot in a cabin dating back to 2012/13. They have over 100 developers working on Elite apparently, AND Adam woods has said on several live streams that they are always working on projects way ahead of time. That is how development works.

    Here's a fun little tip for you if you are doing the Blueprint Segment puzzles. If you happen to have any Missile Launchers with the Overload Munitions experimental effect, those actually trigger the energy pylons too. You could just raise the pylons, then blast them with a pair of Overload Missiles to activate them. Best to do it with someone else watching so you can baffle them with this.

    Even a little tour around Guardian Space would be more fun than this. Like, every of this site could look different from one another and could give you one guardian thing each, just by scanning a main ancient data terminal and maybe fighting some sentinels off, but also unveiling a part of the ancient Guardian history. At least something like the scripture or log, anything, like come on, it wouldnt be so hard. So there is actually something to it, you just travel around Guardian "bubble" and learn something about them and unlock their tech, but without the shenaningans of riding around the structure and farming everything that is there. Why someone thought that it h a s t o take so much time????

    Been back several times for various things I've needed to unlock; staying for all would have been tedious, and I've still got return trips to do so having the developers do it in one sitting would be interesting.
    Personally speaking I simply couldn't head cannon (personal narrative...whatever) the required story to justify it. Be nice if they could share theirs while they demonstrate. Going for a (single) fighter and the corrosive resistant cargo bay at a frantic pace this week because I'm scrambling for the Gnosis (ty to ObsidionAnt. I'd've missed that but for him. All those virgin planets to scan.).
    Elite Dangerous is a wonderful game, but bits can be frustrating. Still, I'd rather have the odd, ultimately tweakable, bit be a grind now than not be there at all.
    I have faith the developers will address further these issues in the future, and forgive them to a degree as life is a serious of lessons and they are concentrating on making an amazing game even more amazing next year. Sad about the recent delays though; I was hoping feet or planets this winter.

Spending 2 hours searching for one type of rare planetary material and getting like 12 units of it at the end of the day is frigging terrible. It's fine getting all the ship component materials because blowing up ships is a part of the natural gameplay loop. Collecting guardian materials isn't, which would be fine if the rewards were good but in most cases it's subpar

    Whose idea of fun is it to get your SRV stuck every 10 meters? Devs should be forced to battle royale in Escher's Relativity on shopping carts while we all shoot missiles at them from the windows.

    But Yamiks, players who play the game by actual logging in into the game obviously do like this "quality personal narrative" grind. They login because they like it. FD has no other choice but to dump a pile of same sh... personal narrative. FD delivers what players want. /s

    Fuck that. As predicted we are expected to do this bullshit, for every single Guardian item. I’m not going back to any of those sites for a long, long time. It’s not even massively time consuming in relative terms, it’s just not entertaining or interesting.

    not going to bother personally narrating the guardian fighters until i can rebuy an ai pilot. good ones are too valuable to risk against goids
