He worked with great musicians like Robert Fripp, Bill Bruford, Steve Howe, Carl Palmer, ..., to name a few ones...
John Wetton was a talented bass player and singer. R.I.P.

John Wetton is a masterpiece in end of 70' and 80' progressive music. I can't imagine anyone else but him singing in "Red", "Lask's tongue in aspic" and "Easy money" with Fripp in King Crimson. UK is a kind of remake of ELP. but only Wetton is really at the level. Same for Asia, although Stev Howe and Carl Palmer are really great musicians. Wetton could put a lot of feelings in his voice, like in "Lament" with KC. RIP John Wetton. Your voice is unforgettable!

When this came out I was surprised it wasn't a hit - catchy and fun, with some understated prog that seemed radio-friendly. Just a couple of years later Wetton would repeat this sound with a different set of musicians and hit it big with ASIA, but this album is the groundwork for that project, I've always thought.

    • @hzv7242

It got played a lot on early MTV. It was a hit on there.

@@hzv7242 I also recall that disc-jockeys then called it "commercial", coming from UK, which was according to the mindset of that era perhaps true. Still, I loved it then and I love it now. I also bought those two vinyl LPs then and bought the first one as a CD later on.

I love being able to revisit this band as I knew them in my youth. I saw UK tour with Jethro Tull in 1979, and it was an awesome show (at MSG in NYC). I know Ian Anderson was impressed, as soon afterwards he had Eddie Jobson joining Jethro Tull for 2 albums in 1980-1981. I enjoy this music more now, especially since John Wetton has passed. I have the first album and also Danger Money on vinyl, and love them both. The first with Alan Holdsworth on guitar and Bill Bruford on drums is priceless. But as Bruford has the staying power of a bumble bee, Wetton gets Terry Bozzio from Frank Zappa's band, and they become one of the most awesome three piece bands ever!
