Thank you so much for this. The Danger Money album always made me think of lone mercenaries, assassins and the MI agents. The feel of this album, for me, has a temperature, you know, where the metal touches your skin and you cannot tell if it is scalding hot or ice cold. It is pure brilliance and it is timeless.
It's 5 o'clock Driving down Park Lane As London leaves For the weekend again Through the dark city streets In the clinging rain I take my car Towards the Thames And Waterloo Rendezvous 6: 02 Rendezvous 6: 02 Was that a face I saw? You see the band U.K. performing during a TV show (not a real videoclip). I edited out some disturbing parts (mostly shots of bored teenagers in the audience) and also added some pictures in an attempt to enhance the song's story+atmosphere. A great song indeed, TXS for your reply!
I am seeing such a resurgence of interest in this band, and in others like them- this, is a beautiful thing. As a kid, the music of Holdsworth, U.K., Bruford, Weather Report, etc. Gave me an alternative to, say, warrant, motley Crüe, and whatever other drivel was shoveled through media.
I have no idea what made me think of this song after not having heard it for over 20 years, but I thank you for putting out where I can experience the joy of hearing it again as well as the video. Thank you!!!
For all purposes...*the* video for the song! Nice work! Saw the reunited U.K. this past May in NYC; it was as powerful as it must have been back then. Wetton's voice hadn't changed a bit.
I saw this band in Memphis TN Mid South Coliseum in 79-80 They were awesome. The set up was different than many other bands that I had seen at the time. What I mean is they were all at the front of the stage. The keyboardist also played violin and hand keyboards on three sides and many foot pedals. Wetton was in the middle and Bozio on the left side. Bozio used a lot of roto toms not your standards toms. They were impressive. I believe they warmed up for Tull.
To those who asked for the original source video I used for my 'tribute': I'm sorry but I can't upload that one, but I'm sure you can find it elsewhere on youtube (as I did). BTW that version has bad audio and the last part of the song was completely missing. Be sure I used all available band material in my version. Greetings!
This may have been the one last tunes Wetton used his right hand pn without a pick. Some of the other tracks on "Danger Money" he'd switched over. As a bassist and music journalist (former Assistant Editor for "Bassics," contributor for "Bass Player,") and long-time fan of Wetton, I always admired his bass playing. But when he switched over to a pick on the "Danger Money" album his bass playing became less impressive in my opinion. I don't know if it was for health reasons (i.e. carpal tunnel syndrome or tendonitis or to concentrate more on his vocals -- which I'll always dig). Still, glad to see him still in the game. His work w/ Family on "Fearless," "Bandstand, with King Crimson and on the first UK album (and subsequent bootlegs) will always remain some of my favorites.
It may well have been. I understand he had a serious muscular injury that necessitated him having to switch to a pick. I'm just saying I preferred his bass playing before that event.
Robert Kaye The carpal tunnel is a fairly recent ailment for Wetton, which is why he used a pick taped to his thumb in the Asia reunion tours. I think he switched to the pick for more tactile control since not only was he playing the bass lines from Danger Money onward, but also using his bass as a kind of substitute rhythm/harmony guitar on Asia songs like Time Again. In solo concerts (before carpal tunnel took hold) he was using both techniques, depending on the song.
+Robert Kaye Carpal Tunnel and related disorders are miserable. It really broke down Keith Emerson, too. Chris Squire used a pick but then he was like no other. Piano/keys player here. I had lots of physical therapy and carpal tunnel surgery eventually. It helped but once nerve damage sets in, it often lingers.
It was very sad to hear that John Wetton had passed. Personally, for me he was a masterful and innovative musician. He played with many bands, Family, Mogul Thrash... but most notably, King Crimson, UK & ASIA. To pay proper homage, I posted 5 UK Live tunes. R.I.P. John, you will be truly missed. This to me was one of the best albums of all time! So much versatility in it and Wetton was at his peak creatively and vocally so powerful...Such a great concept hard driving album....a gem of progressive rock....short lived but great band...bruford, jobson, bozzio, what a line up. If you can get the sound and video together better it would be great. I saw them open for jethro tull as well and I went to see them more than tull...girlfreind intro-ed me to them....awesome stuff..
Everything I've watched that you've put on RUclips has been superb! I can't wait to see the next one of your play list. It's really kind of mind-boggling that your taste in music Parallels mine (apologies to YES' song on GFTO). LOL
wonderfull song , wonderfull clip .. while enjoying the music for several decades i never saw them 'live' :-) , this is as close as it gets i guess ... well done
Style of Yes, Nice, ELP. Great song. Only an inferior live version to be found on Spotify and iTunes. Soundtrack to 1980 German road movie "Das Ziel" by Hartmut Griesmayer.
Great song, nicely made tribute, well done and thanks for sharing it through RUclips. Think I must have the album somewhere....well, perhaps this is a better way for a rendezvous with my memories... :-)
@robbot1964 That's fantastic job. Can you upload the original video as well? Just for me being a completist :) Plus, I'd like to see what John does on bass 4:18 to 4:30, if it's shown. Also UK videos seems to be terribly rare
R.I.P. John Wetton. One of the best-ever singers in prog, rock or pop. And one of the top bassists too. Irreplaceable.
The most beautiful song I have ever heard. This song will haunt me for the rest of my life. RIP, Sir Wetton.
RIP John Wetton.. farewell.. and thanks for all the great music. :'(
RIP John Wetton......what agreat songs you wrote...
What a jewel of the good days of prog rock
another bass genius with a voice.
I had the LP in 79. The pleasure is the same 35 years later ! Thx for the post.
That is my favorite UK song!! Awesome
Me too. Really
Thank you so much for this.

The great John Wetton!
way to use odd time signatures to perfection! what a tune! front row in 1979!
Se nos fue un grande, que genio John.....

R.I.P. John Wetton. You will be missed so much. I am heartbroken, as are millions of fans.

Best album of 1979.
Seen this band with Jethro Tull in 1979 MSG in NY Great Show
Long Beach Arena, Long Beach, CA. Holy Moly!
Love and miss this. RIP John... I will always remember UK with Bruford and Bozzio. Please live long Mr. Holdsworth.
Great tune! UK was a much lesser known but talent-rich, classically trained progressive band. My favourite genre then and now..
Recuerdo de la juventud y la banda, cuando había tiempo sin prisas, para escuchar UK

I have to agree with that. Nothing has beat those times and music yet!!

One of the first vinyl I owned a long time ago. It was I think a live at Budokan.
Amazing song prefigures Asia

And yet that pick sound ended up being important in Asia if in a simple way. JMHO. : )

R.I.P J. Wetton. You will be missed dear friend!
I had all three on vinyl (including the "live" album). Lost them in flood damage in the early 90s. After that, I just began collecting CDs instead...
Nice job on the video! R.I.P. John Wetton, thanks for everything! :-(

Thanks Scott! Seems you have a ultrafine musical taste.
Yes is great too, saw them live maybe 7-8 times. Love 'em!!
Danger Money, best album of '79 along with The Wall.
Great! Loved it!
Great band and great song. I didn't chart anywhere, only in the Netherlands (nr. 24).
Thanks for your effort! I really love it.
Wow, you definitely did the album justice. I thoroughly enjoyed the video. I count their concert that I saw in college as one of the best!!
lost JW today...what a legend...😔
Simply "BRILLIANT" ! ! [Thanx]
Great song, nicely made tribute, well done and thanks for sharing it through RUclips. Think I must have the album somewhere....well, perhaps this is a better way for a rendezvous with my memories... :-)
The lyric is curiously vague. As the OP put it, 'supernatural.' It's otherworldly, dream-like. A mood piece.
Awesome video! Very nice work, thanks for posting!
jobson and wetton forever
thx !!! remembering my 17 years !!!
Well done my friend. Thank you.
Nice job! I enjoyed that.
Miming. Anyway it's wonderful atmposheric music... never could spell
