This absolutely needs a part 2
Spiderman into the spiderverse is the best spiderman movie, best animated movie, best superhero movie and just all round 100 percent perfect movie. Its pure ART. It should be in a museum each frame perfect. Honestly its art and cinema come together in one. Also jake johnson is the greatest spiderman ever. Making the character even more relatable and as an adult. Pure beauty and an amazing oscar worthy performance.
Yuri Lowenthal is the best Spider-Man
The 1 thing he mentioned was we get to see our favorite super heroes together now that XMen is with Disney. People complain so much about the characters, that my inner child, is just happy to see them live in action together. I think some people take that for granted.
Soon X-Men 97 brings the animated series back
But when the X-Men receive their new film within the MCU. Curious which theme song they might use to introduce the film / plus the Marvel Studios intro of course

The X men movies imo were good enough. Like too good for another director to go back and just rewrite the same story. But I think if Disney can recapture that magic in X Men First Class, they’ll be golden. That movie is just as good as most of the MCU phase 1 and 2.

Very pleasantly surprised to hear his appreciation for Cyclops! Cyclops is such an underrated character; even though he's got just as many struggles and hardships as many other Marvel characters (Hulk, Spider-Man, Daredevil, etc), if not more so, he's just never been as beloved and respected as them for some reason. He's got the hardcore, focused mentality of Batman plus laser vision! How is that not awesome?
Bill Bixby will always be the best “David” Bruce Banner to me. He had the advantage of an episodic show but he really captured the tragedy and loneliness of being the Hulk. Even as a kid, when the episode ended and they played that sad piano as he’s forced, yet again, to leave behind new friends, I would occasionally tear up.
What a refreshing take on stuff that just gets debated endlessly or simply bashed on wider platforms. Smith brings the love while still offering up opinions respectfully. This is the way it ought to be. Would love to see a full length interview like this sometime with more stuff.

Always hear Norton was best hulk, or Mark is, but I'm partial to Bana. It's the performance we are judging here, not the film. And Eric was great.

The MCU is now at a point where introducing mutants makes sense.
In the beginning, everyone within the movies loved the Avengers and other heroes, which would make hating mutants a bit odd since they'd be heroes too. But now the MCU had set up a distrust of supes (Spidey, Wanda) which is set to worsen with the introduction of mutants

Yeah I think it’s not that he’s supposed to be ugly more like he can’t date girls because it always interferes.
Not a single girl was pulled until they hot the spider man powers. That’s what he meant. They looked the same but their confidence, physique and charm, everything got sky rocketed once they acquired the powers

I'm right there with Kevin, I was always a big Cyclops fan and I hope that he can finally get his due as a character in the MCU. I loved most of the old X-Men movies but there were definitely dominated by Wolverine and Cyclops ended up pushed to the side.

I’m glad they knew the only way to match Claremont’s run was to basically start fresh with a new, insanely involved story. Hickman’s stuff really delivered that imo, I haven’t kept up with all of it but the eras he led are really cool

Kevin Smith worked at DC comics on Batman for a good amount of time. He isn't just a comic book nerd but has some amazing knowledge.

Love these insight! MORE, MORE, more. One small point: even as a 7 year old watching the Incredible Hulk on TV, it bugged me how the green paint wore off the Hulk's hands and feet.

Glad he recognises what Chris Pine did. Into The Spider-Verse is the best Spider-Man movie ever and poor Chris Pine was asked to do what ever kid dreams of doing. Be Peter Parker/Spider-Man… For a few minutes and then die… But he did it and NAILED IT.

I love Kevin. I grew up watching his movies and hours long Q&As (even the one were it took him 3 hours to answer one question lol). I watched Dogma at 9 years old and just fell in love with his movies. (My parents were pretty lax.) Im still not a huge fart joke fan lol, but his movies have SO much more than that.
Pretty lax? Please... I saw Scanners at 6.... Nightmare on Elm Street at 9... Blu Thunder at 7... Dogma at 9 is childsplay... literally and metaphorically.

Totally agree with what Kevin says about the masks. This is probably my biggest problem with the MCU movies where everyone for no reason other than the vanity of the actors take off their mask every 3 seconds even in the middle of battles.
Actors act with their faces. Might as well hire an unknown for cheaper if you can't see them.
That and the cgi masks cost more to render

Always love Kevin's take on superheroes. Although to be exact Cyclops doesn't shoot lasers out of his eyes. It's recycled solar energy that manifests as heatless kinetic/concussive force.
Peter Parker never had a problem finding a date. It was keeping them that he struggled with.
