    I have installed 4 mini splits already evacuating the lines and then allowing the pre-charge in the compressor to fill the system, very easy as you said! The water tight connections for the Elec are just to keep water out of the tubing. You can see an opening at the bottom of the elec cover because it has to drain if necessary, not water tight and should be left that way. :^)

    Hey
    I love your video very informative
    I want to install one in my condo but because the building is attached to another building on both sides I don’t think it’s possible according to what the consultants from different company. Just wondering if there is anything I can do

    • @homesteadhideaway
      @homesteadhideaway  2 года назад

      Seems like you would need to install it close to the front or back of the condo, you can order longer copper lines but would need to hide them. An HVAC contractor should be able to tell you what you can do.

    Funny, I know Rob likes to freeze you in the RV, my wife it the hot one and would freeze me out is she could lol. Solar just needs a 220v inverter.

    • @homesteadhideaway

      We opted for a 120v minisplit since our inverter only has 1 phase, may add a second inverter later.

    I'm very curious about the energy consumption of your unit vs my 19 SEER unit. I had a fire and mine is gone now, but at full power mine used about 1500W while yours used about 1100. Is that right? I actually modded mine in order to get it to run constantly in mid range mode because I am using an off grid solar setup that couldn't quite keep up with full power. I installed a potentiometer in place of the temp sensor, and told it that it was say 74 degrees inside when I wanted 73. Worked great for a couple weeks. It ran at full power for a minute, then settled down and used about 700 watts as long as the sun was up till it met a very violent untimely death. It was NOT the cause of the fire, but it was probably chugging right along till it melted into a pile

      Now I'm about to replace it, but do I buy the same one or spend twice as much on yours? It says it's much more efficient, but is it really? I have a small ground loop so do I just buy a geothermal unit instead? It's difficult to find a small geothermal unit, but if you use your ground loop to trickle the water through the coil of your mini split, you get most of the benefits and a small fish pond!

      I'm also completely off-grid in Cabo, MX. I did the best I could with construction adding this miracle material called...insulation. The windows suck because they are safety glass for the hurricanes. I am also currently running 19 SEER mini-splits. Have you figured out a better solution such as replacing with 38 SEER Innovair? I cannot find any info if two 1 ton SEER 38 are better than one 2 ton SEER 19. AC has to run 24/7 during the summer months and my home built 48v batteries are doing great.

    I have two of these and they've been great. Only problem is with the WiFi AI-Home app pairing. If you ever change internet providers, it's a major pain to ever get these things online again.

    The unit says it is 208-230V / 60Hz are you worried about shortening the life by overvolting @ 240 or do you actually have 110/220 home ?

      Our grid input reads about 120/240, I'm not really concerned about.

    I appreciate the video and some might call me an armchair quarterback since I've yet to install a minisplit but I think you did a few steps incorrectly. When you apply nylog, everyone else uses it only at the point where the flare meets and not on the threads. Next, most other videos use a torque wrench when connecting the line sets. Next, the wall unit should be drilled into studs. Lastly, the sleve that goes through the wall should be on a slight angle just to be sure that any unwanted moisture flows out and not into your living area.

      Peter, thanks for the comment. We really didn't mean this to be a step by step, more of a product intro. I think some things are missed in the vid. I do apply Nylog on the flare but also the threads for added protection, I did not have a torque wrench available but have done enough of these to know the feel, but a torque wrench is recommended. The wall unit did hit one stud but they don't always line up with studs and you do not want the top corners unsupported so be prepared to use drywall anchors which the manufacture provides. Also not on camera was me pitching the drain line outside which as you mentioned is recommended. Good eye on catching these things and again sorry it wasn't clear this wasn't really a step-by-step. Thanks for watching!

      I'm a little confused. If drawing 4.71 amps at an average voltage of 215 then it would be consuming roughly 1,012 watts. If the unit cranks out 9000 btu/h and you divid the btu/watts it only comes to a SEER of 8.89 which is nowhere neer 38. How is this 38 seer calculated? At 9000 btu/h to achieve that high of a SEER it would consume only 236 watts or roughly 1.1 amp. Can you clarify?

    The only comment I’d make as a 25 year HVAC master mechanic, You must test the lines for 1 hour with nitrogen at 300 psi, this insures you will not have a leak at the very high pressures these inverter systems run at with 410-a refrigerant. The best and fastest way to find a leak is to use bubbles when lines are pressurized…. Also I cut of ALL factory flares as they are notoriously unreliable.
