My employer banned Bluetooth devices for data security reasons. So I bought this Hamilton online without ever trying it on. I found it boring and didn't like it at first. I thought of giving it to my son. But it grew on me and I now don't ever want to give it up. It's the perfect daily beater/all around versatile watch. With the steel bracelet it even works well as a quasi-dress watch. Oh, and Teddy B. is truly a drug dealer - he has gotten me totally hooked on watches. Now I also own an IWC Portugueser, an Oris Big Crown Pointer Date bronze and now I have my eye on a Longines Spirit Zulu.

Same here. I have had Omegas, Breitlings etc, but this Hamilton is still my favourite watch I have ever owned! If I could change two things without increasing the cost to the consumer, it would be anti reflective coating on the crystal and cosc certified. But as is and for the price point, you will not find a better watch out there!

My Khaki King is my motorcycle travel watch. It’s perfect for this purpose: it’s very legible, the case size is small for me (8.25” wrist) without looking stupid, so wears easily under my motorcycle jacket and gloves, the day display is very helpful on a two week trip when I begin to forget what day it is, and the 50m water resistance is perfectly adequate because I’m not going swimming anyway (and if I do, I have bigger things to worry about). Icing on the cake: it runs about +2 seconds per day. Couldn’t ask for better from a $500 mechanical watch.

I have his watch with the bracelet. I think the Khaki King is probably the one watch from Hamilton that doesn't get the love that it deserves. Every time I see a video for best entry watches, I look for it but it never seems to be there. I think it offers a lot of value for the moeny and looks great too. For me it is a awesome all around watch.

I purchased the brown dial version and I personally enjoy wearing it often. Accuracy is really good on my watch. Yes it only has 50M water resistance but not a big deal for me as I have other field watches with 100M which do the job very well and a a couple of Casio G-Shock 5610's for more rugged use when I need it. Overall though this is definitely a good watch with an excellent leather strap which makes this a more dressy alternative to the traditional type of field watches on the market from other brands out there. The brown dial on mine looks more like a champagne effect in the light which I really like. Thanks Teddy for your review.

To me this watch is as close to a perfect everyday watch as it gets to me. I have only a few very minor gripes with it. Biggest one is lack of anti-reflective coating on the crystal. And even that is less annoying as it seems, as reflections only get really obtrusive under very specific angles. Otherwise it's perfectly clear even on bright sunny day. And default leather strap is quite stiff. It wears down over time a bit, but still no my favorite. But straps can be changed, and it's a super common 20mm one too. Other than that...I love every single detail about it. It's just simple, functional, reliable, good quality watch that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. It looks very understated, and tasteful. It's not big, or loud. There's no bling of any kind, but tons of elegance. So you want to wear it every day. You won't be afraid of minor scratches and dings on it. It will age gracefully, and become a true workhorse watch for many people that own it. And on top of that it has a fantastic movement for it's price. In fact, I don't think anything at this price point gets a better one. It's a modified ETA with quite frankly absurd power reserve. Time tested reliable and very accurate. Yes, it's not a super fancy in-house one of a kind movement. But you wouldn't want that in a watch at that price. I think they spread out the budget on making this watch very intelligently, as you don't feel like many if any compromises were made.

I always find the WR complaints about field watches kind of amusing. 50m is more than enough for what most people are ever going to do with a watch on their wrist. If you're planning to spend a lot of time doing wet things, wear an appropriate watch. Nobody complains that hiking boots aren't suited to swimming...
When considering military "field" use, unless you're in a unit that specializes in going things in the water, you aren't going to spend much time in the water. Your radio, NVGs, etc., aren't designed to be going more than 50m under the water, and they cost more than a watch.

@@airjosh1084 the 50m rating doesn’t actually mean you can dive 50 meters in the watch. It means it can take a splash and you shouldn’t swim in it. The whole meter thing is kind of misleading if you don’t know..

I'm quite convinced that watch manufactures build in deficiencies into each of their models, because they know watch nerds will keep searching (buying) for that holy grail of a watch that ticks all boxes. For example - the Hamilton Khaki Field range is 100 meters and should be, yet this new model is only 50. Why? Did they use a crappier crown gasket to achieve this? Doesn't make sense.

The Day Date complication almost makes this watch! 50m water resistance is disappointing. Watches need to have uses that the smart watches do not.

Yes but it does have an 80 hour power reserve instead of a normal 40 hour power reserve. It all depends on what you wear this watch for really. It's an excellent watch though in my own experience of wearing mine as I don't wear mine in water. 50M is adequate for me as I do have other field watches in my collection with better water resistance. This watch to me is a dressier alternative to a traditional field watch.

I love the 12 o’clock weekday so much, and very few people seem to do it. Certainly nothing I can think of in this price range.
The Montblanc Heritage Day Date and Tudor Prince Date+Day(discontinued)are the only alternatives I’ve found to my $50k+ grail watch.

Not really. Unbelievably reflective crystals, dressy field watches (makes no sense), little water resistance, excessively long lugs, and the worst lume in the industry. They’ve got a long way to go imo

Hamilton bracelets are the WORST in the industry. One notch only clasp adjustment, no half links, and at least for my largish wrist... not even enough links supplied to prevent loss of blood circulation!!! Add to that the worst lume in the industry, on a supposed tool watch, and this watch should be shunned by any self respecting watch collector, until Hamilton up their game.
