    In this video, we'll take a look at a new Hamilton Khaki Field Auto surprisingly offered in a 38mm titanium case. I received the blue 42 for Father’s Day this year for the birth of my son. It is stunning. I put it on a blue and grey nato strap. I have a 7” wrist and was worried about it being too big. The titanium makes it as light as my Casio so it wears smaller.

    I've got a stable of watches and I'd say in terms of cost my Hamilton sits closer to the bottom of my collection than the top. That being said I think they're among the best I own. The build quality is insane, they have history, and the movement is just as if not more accurate than about every other high end watch I own with perhaps the exception of a co axial Omega I own. I love this brand.

    I have to say that the black dial version would be at the top of the three under review. I just find it the most at a glance readable. A great daily watch that's clear to read, light, a well proven movement and will not cost the price of a valued organ. This titanium model is now on my radar.

    I have two Hamilton Khaki Field quartz in 38mm. They are rugged, work watches. They will maybe only lose/gain 1 - 2 seconds in a month. The Automatic snobs might feel cheap wearing one, but I appreciate their durability, long life span & accuracy. Also, changing a battery every 3 or 4 years at less than $10 is not an inconvenience.

    I’ve had the 42mm Version with the green(khaki) dial for a little over a month now. I parted with two 42mm autos that I had in my rotation. I love the lack of a date complication, I love the lightweight case, I love the full matte finish. The only thing I miss was the bracelet on my older Auto, I feel like it was one of the best bracelets in its price point. That being said I wear the titanium on either a NATO or one of the few leather straps I have. The factory strap was nice, but it was too short for my big wrists and the H buckle does nothing for me.

    My brother bought one of these Hamilton Khaki field watches new. He also bought a Seagull 1963 and the Seiko SNK803 (the cream version, for 62 quid) around the same time (watches I recommended to him).. Barely even wears the Hamilton Khaki..regrets buying it. Absolutely loves the other 2 other watches. Wears them all the time. Funny how it goes. The Seiko 5 keeps excellent time, looks great and the Seagull is great looking too. You really can get great watches for very little money, that give just as much or even more pleasure as watches priced well over 700 quid. That Seagull 1963 watch man, it should cause as much of a crisis in the Swiss watch industry as the quartz crisis ever did.

    I do in fact like them. In particular, the Khaki coloued dial because of the sectored effect due to the differeing textures.
    However, Teddy you seemed to have purposely avoided some "watch nerd" details that now raise a couple of questions:
    1. What grade Titanium was used in the production of the cases. Was it 2 or 5?
    2. Is the the Titanium hard coated & if so what is the Vickers Hardness rating applied to it?
    You see, its an important aspect of a field watches capacity to "take a knock" & while Ti is light & strong, it will scratch & dent more readily that 316 SS. If i'm going to pay more....... I want more! Does that seem unreasonable to any of you?

    The only one change I would do to these beauties is to change the logo from the entire 'Hamilton' text to a simple 'H' as the one on the crown. The dial is already busy with 12, 24 hour markers, and the rail road track at the perimeter.
    Changing the branding above the pinion to just a 'H' would give the dial some breathing space!

    You forgot to mention that the older Titanium models had the word "TITANIUM" printed on the side of the case - which, in my opinion - is a dealbreaker and ruins the watch. I'm happy to see they did away with that on these new ones. I have the Far Cry 6 Titanium Field (which also does not have "TITANIUM" printed on the side) and it has become one of my favorite daily drivers despite being 42mm it still wears nicely on my average size wrist. Thanks Teddy for a great video! Be well and I'll see you all.. very soon.

    I like these, though the price jump is quite a bit to handle vs. the steel models. I also wish they had more than just the big jump to 42 from 38. I can actually wear the 42, but wish it were a little smaller. I've had the Khaki Field mechanical 38mm on and found it just too small for my wrist/taste. It wore shockingly small, which could be due to the thinness. That is in contrast to another 38mm, the Seiko SPB155 Alpinist. That one wore beautifully. Go figure! I know there is the Khaki Field King, but that somehow wears smaller than the 40mm would seem to indicate in my opinion. That and it also lacks that 100m water resistance of the KFA. As far as competitors, I felt you left one out - another microbrand in Swiss Watch Co's Bunker model. I have not had it on the wrist, but a close friend has one and absolutely loves it. He got the bracelet for it, which he likes. The lume on those is just stunning (take note: Hamilton).

All new Hamilton releases are a lot higher in prices now compared to similar previous models. Hamilton may be doing a Seiko....

    I have the 38mm green one and love it, my only gripe is reflections in the sapphire crystal, which also makes the dial look washed out in some lighting. The green dial doesn't look quite as dark in person as in this video due to those reflections (and it looks very different in person compared to the the Hamilton web page images).
    Hamilton doesn't mention AR coating of any kind in the web site's product listing but with other watches they do and I believe it, no AR coating on crystal. It really needs it.

    • @strengthbasetraining279
      @strengthbasetraining279 Год назад

      How would you say it looks different in person? I am really torn between the 38mm green and black version. Looking for an Allrounder to wear any day and to any more or less any occasion.

    • @thomasmathes5019
      @thomasmathes5019 Год назад +1

      @@strengthbasetraining279 The green is more washed out than in most pictures I've seen. BUT, due to the black outlines on the hands and the lighter green the legibility is great. The green dial also changes hues depending on the angle the light reflects off of it. The area where the numbers are printed is lightly grooved, at an angle the dial is especially striking, it's an amped-up look of what you see in the video.
      The black model's issue to me is back hand outline with a black dial. The tips of the hands will be nearly invisible. Check some of the pics in reviews, that was the deal killer to me.
      I still love the watch, I got a 'lime' in that I see well within +3-4 seconds/day on the wrist.

    • @jipke
      @jipke Год назад +1

      Yeah, that's the only gripe I have really about Hamilton. I own the regular 38mm auto, and I had the crystal replaced (AR coating on the underside). Much better now. Should come as standard. @fratozkan8124 Год назад

      @@thomasmathes5019 I've got the black dial model and you're quite right on invisibility of syringe hands on the black dial. Probably an oversight on Hamilton's design department, (and mine in the shop) the hands definitely should have been painted with a contrasting color to the dial. On the other hand, the seconds hand being all black with just the orange tip somewhat creates a weird visual effect of a seconds "indicator" floating around the dial.
      And yes, these should have AR coating.

    I received a 42mm titanium from my wife as a Christmas present. It was bought on the Hamilton website. I wore it for 3 days and it stopped working. There was a rattle in the movement. Sent back to Swatch in mid January and was advised that it would be repaired under warranty and returned by mid February. I now have received another email from swatch that due to “current events and limited staff” they “will do their best” to return it by mid March. I have owned an Explorer 2 for many years and it performs flawlessly. Granted, the Hamilton is not a Rolex but Swatch should have simply replaced the watch. I would caution anyone who is thinking about buying a Hamilton khaki titanium, not only with regard to quality and reliability but also about Swatch customer care.

    I wish Hamilton had included a date complication. Same with the Longines Spirit titanium. I’d buy either one if they had it.

    The SWC bunker absolutely blows this out the water in value for money. Phenomenal lume and AR coating, Selita movement and hardened coating on the titanium to prevent scratches. All for 2/3rd the price.

    The lumed numerals on the black model seem very dark. Much darker than the product photos on the website. Would you say this is a truer representation? That's the one I would go for but I would be worried about the lack of contrast.

    Man that cement look is nice and tasty , great texture and tactile-feeling look , and the green one’s nice as well .
    I have to say I like things I feel I can chew , like my fav watches are the ceramic cases , like Zenith Defy White Ceramic version , cause 1) metal bracelets are heavy and are cumbersome to get the right fit on ; 2) the rubber strap is gummy , like chewing gum and I feel I can eat it , or put it between my teeth when I need security ( think I have lived with too many dogs ? Lol )

    Hey everyone! I'm looking for your help in picking out a watch for a budget at $2000-2500. I'm thinking Longines, Edox, Frederique Constant, Oris etc. I'm looking for uniqueness nothing too mainstream. Any ideas? I like dress, world, some divers but just looking for a solid watch to keep for a very long time. This is a huge investment for me. I really like Grand Seiko and some Omega, Montblanc however, those may be out of my price range.
    Also, would like something that keeps its value and a sought after watch. Is Baume et Mercier any good too? Thanks all!

    How is the AR coating on the sapphire? I sold my previous khaki king because of me seeing my own face as a reflection before i can even read the time.

    It is a funny thing that I cannot put my finger on. It is almost as if Hammy is trying very hard to make the Khacki Field look like less of a watch than it is. I do not know whether it is the case material, the finishing or what...but the Khacki Field has that "$40 Timex Expedition" feel to it.
    The Khacki Field King, on the other hand (like the one on my wrist as I type) has the overall feel of a very well put together piece of horological art. And it is not just the differences in the face nor the extra complications. It is something more than that, that I cannot isolate and point to. But the King has a "high horology" feel to it that the regular Field does not have.
    Hey, if it is a Hammy it is a great watch. I am a big fan, who owns three Hammies. Maybe Teddy w2ill take an interest in my comment and be able to pinpoint that which I see as intangible on this subject.

    I own the black dial version of this watch for nearly 1,5 years. the watch keeps the time incredibly well (1-2 seconds a day) and it is a really nice watch to wear. the things i don't like is the crystal, it feels like there is hardly anti-reflective coating at all and that makes it hard to read. I also feel that the strap is really not great. My Seiko sports 5 that was much cheaper (almost 1/3 of the price) has a better strap already. Having said that, the pricetag is pretty steep compared to the non titanium version.

    The FarCry Edition was my favorite. I really liked this little pop of red color on the seconds hand. Unfortunately my wrist is on the smaller side (about 6,75 inch) and 42mm with 52mm lug to lug looks ridiculous. So I'm gonna go for the new 38mm. But which color? The black dial is more versatile and looks at a glance more readable, but the green dial on the other hand looks more fun.... Hard decision!

      @@petermclean8243 sorry for this really late answer. I still like this watch a lot and maybe I'll buy one somewhen. But i pulled the trigger on the smaller Murphy. Since the dial is more muted it works better in my typical daily life

    My Hamilton Khaki Auto was my first automatic watch and I still love its versatility. The power reserve doesn't seem to last more than an hour once I take it off the wrist which I don't understand even after a recent service. It still keeps time when on the wrist so I just don't get it.

      My guess is the mainspring is slipping in the barrel either due to a broken mainspring, a worn barrel, or the mainspring was put in the wrong way

      @@Pierce-AF thanks I've owned it for about 4 years so thought it was due a service and new oil would fix it. It definitely winds better but the power reserve is still awful after 50 winds.

    Looks like the lug-to-lug is 1mm shorter than the steel model, and it may be my imagination but the lugs look a bit more curved too. That would be good since I've always felt the lugs on the steel model were a poor fit for my very slim wrist.
