- The King has returned, amount the Watches Doug sent to me. This is a sign that it must return to my collection of watches. I also want to show that a 50m water resist is good enough for daily use.

Just bought one of these for my sons 16th birthday and I can't wait to give it to him.
He'll love it and it should serve him well for years to come! I've still love mine after nearly a decade of ownership, and hey, if it was good enough for Dr. House, then it's good enough for me!
@@stanlee5465 He's been wearing it for a year now and he does love it =)
Nic Lewis that’s sick
What a nice gift you got for your son. Great job!
I just want to convey how much I enjoy your posts. They are smart and thoughtful. Really down to earth, deeply knowledgeable and I look forward to when each one drops. You have influenced the way I think about watches. Thank you.
Another great review. Love mine. Had it for 12 yrs. Runs like a champ.
I love the syringe style hands with the very thin end pointers. The length of the hands is also just perfect. Its a definite keeper. Very well executed.
Yeah, I completely agree with you on the KKing II - it is so well executed that it is an irresistable piece. Everything about that watch "works" in harmony with each facet, from the sapphire dome, the radius of that dome, the gentle slope of the bezel, the long second hand, the second indices, the face color and the surface features of the face, the day/date (a killer design feature) - this watch is as plain as vanilla ice cream, but good vanilla is the "go to" for nearly everyone. Same for the KKing II. Nothing fancy about it, but the execution is outstanding. It will look just as good 50 years from now. Its a timeless design, for sure.
Well said.
Such a great piece I need to add one to the collection
Just bought mine it’s a beautiful watch so comfortable to wear. And it’s insane just 2 seconds a day it’s gaining. If you’re looking for your first Swiss automatic watch you can’t go wrong with this beauty 🤤.
Just bought one. Cannot wait to receive it. Great review
Excellent camera work. Thanks!
Wearing mine now. It has become my daily wearer. Best watch for the money.
Congratulations on rediscovering a watch you love. I don't think there is anything wrong with knowing what you like - variety is fun, bring watches in for the channel but you don't have to feel bad about knowing what you like. When I think of a field watch, it is a Hamilton Khaki and that is a great example you have there. Thank you for another great video :)
Hamilton seems to own that space. Most of us would all agree on that. Are they the best? Nah, but they are what all others are compared to.
First reviewer to highlight the date changeover. Thanks for that!
thank you, because of this video, i just bought myself one👍
Congrats on getting the Hamilton Khaki King back! I’ve been really looking at buying a Khaki field automatic. Such a beautiful watch you have there Rob. Also thanks for the awesome deal on the Sieko SRPB07 that I bought from you today. Thanx!
Welcome. I will get it boxed up and shipped out in the morning. You are gonna really dig this model.
Random Rob Thank you Rob! I’m looking forward to wearing it! Also I’m a huge knife/axe/firearms & outdoors gear & tools addict. If you ever want to see what I have please feel
free to look at my Instagram page and we can always make a deal.
The King is a great watch! It's got the right dimensions and it has a great movement. I don't blame you for wanting to buy that watch!
80 hr power reserve which I own the H-40. 3 instead of 4 Hertz speed. Based of the ETA 2834,-2. Lots of vintage Sandoz watches used that day date display. The H-40 can be regulated off the balance wheel posts. The regulator pins are lacking on the balance bridge on the H-40. I own this watch as well. Amazing timepiece. I just purchased one.
Love this watch! But i still think this watch looks best with the brown leather strap! :)
I'm wearing mine now. Love it! Great vid! Thx!
Great watch indeed
Beast of a watch. All that most of us need
Pretty much. Some legit Lume and 150m water resist would make this model a show stopper.
Random Rob pretty much described the Tudor heritage ranger or seamaster railmaster formula. A lot more money, no day/date and half the power reserve tho. All three are great everyday watches, can’t go wrong.
Had mine for 8 years. Fantastic watch. The only thing negative is the lume. Could've been brighter.
Beautiful watch. Recently I considered getting this one but I decided to go with the Khaki Pilot Day Date 42mm (aka Interstellar). Both are awesome watches. Hamilton did a fine job on these, and they both have a very distinctive style.
I just recently got both those watches , the interstellar and the king . Love them both .
+1 on the interest in the water resistance. Great review! I want one real bad. Wouldn’t swim with it but it would be nice to know it could handle a fall into a lake or a reach into some snow or something.
you sound like badger from breaking bad bro
😂
Got one. Love it!
Love this watch. Looking forward to the waterproof test.
I first got interested in this timepiece reWATCHing House MD, as it's the one he wears in seasons 1-3 (only with the leather strap). I fully agree, you won't find another Swiss made watch with day-date functionally in this price range. This honestly seems like a perfect daily wear and I can't wait to add this to my collection. The dull illumination doesn't bother me considering my Rolex Datejust doesn't even have it at all haha
Juz bought one with brown leather. Got to agree that is a good quality watch in term of design. Looks & feel good on d wrist. Date changing is Swift. Only the second hand sweeping is not really smooth. Overall, is a good watch for the price range. 👍
good watch the only negative is the mirror area arround the glass... scrats easily!!! my choise is Hamilton KHAKI AUTO H605150
Wish Seiko would produce a 8 beat per second movement with an instant day/date change - such a good feature.
Great review. I have one with a leather strap, could you recommend a bracelet for this model?
It can be adjusted by two screws on each side of the balance wheel from what I’ve read!
Interesting. Not sure I would mess with it. Would be slick to just turn a screw and increase or decrease though. Instead of pushing a lever plus or minus.
love your take on the potential situation ".. screw it, it was my bad"... but, I agree, I feel WR is probably better than most fear.. within a reasonable WR rating and of course age of the watch and whether it's been serviced or at least have all the points of intrusion well sealed.
I take my old watch wearing habits with my Swatch watches from the 80's and 90's. They were all just plastic cases with no screwdown crown, just push and pull, but they all survived swimming, dives, hot showers, etc without fail. If a $60 or so plastic watch with no screwdown can withstand relatively heavy abuse and active wear, I think many modern watches that have at least, probably well above the WR of a Swatch, should be able to as well.
Not going to lie, I am not a personal fan of the day date location and cutout. I think I prefer the Khaki without any day and date complications, time only, but overall I'm sure it's a great watch for many occassions.
By the way, really love your channel. Watch all your videos. You, Bruce Williams and Jeff McMahon are my watch guru´s ;) and it´s expensive......
Can you help, I can’t find my manual or anything on the web about it, but since you adjust the time Turing counter clockwise, is it the same for winding it up? When i go clockwise it sounds like grinding, counter clockwise I hear the clicks so I’m assuming that’s right. I just bought this brand new from Macy’s about a month ago.
I have boiled my watch collection down to this watch here, the Hamilton, a quartz Victorinox Swiss Army Maverick, aTimex Expedition and an iWatch from Apple. I have a couple Orient Bambinos that I have rotated out for now, but are still an option.
A rolling boil or a simmering boil?
I can’t wait to own one
I've always thought that the 50m W/R rating on this watch was highly conservative. Looking forward to your testing in this regard.
How’d that work out? I’ve love the look and everything about it but the 50m WR has always been 😬
@@arikjohnson412 50m WR is fine for swimming, washing the car etc. I wouldn’t shower with it or snorkel, but I don’t wear my divers in a shower, and haven’t been snorkelling in about 10 years lol for a daily wear watch, 50m is plenty.
This watch is perfect
I've thought about picking one of these up before. Seems like a watch that would be really hard to not wear. It would probably work real well on a leather strap.
Must resist ebay.............lol
Need to get some straps in to try out on it.
I'm thinking of buying the Quartz version of this with 40mm size, which one is better the one with a metal bracelet or the leather strap?
Great movement, 25 jewels it’s a lot of watch for the money.
I have had my eye on it for some time but after I purchased a Seiko sarb017 my interest in the Hammy waned.
will this watch fit an 8 inch wrist comfortably with the stock bracelet?
Hi Rob, I appreciate your review. Did you ever carry out that water resistant test? Is the 5 bar rating really a matter in daily use?
No I ended up selling soon after. Flipper4life
I love the khaki king because I personally prefer day/date complication. Unfortunately, I had to settle for the khaki field 38 because of the size. I love my watch, but would rather have the king
I dived with mine to 40,000 feet and it still works fine 👍
Impressive
Hi Rob, I would like to ask you, if water has got into this watch during swimming etc.
Thanks, J.P.
hey Rob great review. What kind of camera do you use?
iPhone
im sold on this watch, whats the tool you used to shorten the band?
Does the old version of khaki king H64455533 are more worthy than new version? The old comes with 28800 beats and 40 hours power reserve without the "SWISS MADE" under 6 o'cloc, while the new khaki king comes with 21600 beats but with the 80 hour power reserve..does the old one still being produced? Thanks
Only issue I have had with my Hamilton Khaki King on a bracelet, are the pins , they tend to loosen, and once a pin fell out.. so had to take it to my watchmaker and get the pins changed. And it's the only watch in my collection where I am fine with lack of great lume! But it won't move from my collection
The pins did seem kinda loose when I swapped.
@@RandomRobReviews Yes they are very loose and the pin holding the end link fell out even though I had never touched it, so mine needed to be swapped. A cheap fix, but shouldn't be necessary on a 400£ watch.
Updates on this one? Curious if it’s still in the collection/water resistance results?
Nice watch I think I will have to buy one
Looks like Jomashop has great deal right now
Rob, what is that watch tool you have towards the end? Ta
baughblabs.com/watchmaker-spring-bar-tool/
I have an eight-inch wrist will the bracelet strap work on my wrist?
Nice presentation, what about a strap code oyster ❓
They removed the adjuster on the movement because it is regulated by a laser in house, down side is only Hamilton can adjust it if needed in future
Hi Rob, I just pulled the trigger on the Khaki King (both the black dial and champagne version). The watch has only 50 meters water resistance, and you talk about taking the watch to the pool and shower with it. Did you ever do it? :) and what is your results? Is it OK to do :)
Sorry I never tested it. I would say be cautious for sure.
So what did you do with the watch after the hot tub visit?
I wish I had a Hamilton Murph from Interstellar. Trying to figure out which in Hamilton's line up is the closest.
I have the khaki 38 on a black crocodile strap, looks just like the Murphy
This watch is now retailing for over $700 which is a testament to how good of a watch it actually is.
I really want to like Hamilton but none of their watches do it for me. Anyways are you still on the hunt for the Omega Seamaster? Definitely looking forward to that. Cheers from Mexico.
Hamilton is very understated, like the kid at school dance that just hangs out off to the side.
I bailed on the smpc, bought a Monta instead. Video soon.
so, how did it do regarding water resistance?
where is the video where you tested the water resistence i cant find it on your channel
I'm buying this watch tonight from Jomashop for $355 on Cyber Monday 2019.
Got my leather band version for $348.
How did it go
@@cardiaccoder9622 It's great. Love it.
BradD nice
The only reason I don’t have one is because I have a Hammy Khaki Chrono and so it would win the wrist time between the two.
Rob, I also may have to give up on getting the SMp300 lolol
Don’t give up. Just make a different choice. I chose Monta and a new bike.
Random Rob Well, yeah. Not giving up but rather keeping options open. Who knows, right? Fun!
So many great options.
Hi Rob!
Is that Monta Yours?
I have the exact same watch. It is a stunner!
Regards!
Green Monta is my latest keeper watch.
Random Rob Great choice!Wear it in good health!
This one didn't click with me, almost immediately wished I got the regular khaki auto.
I still need to try that model too. Those look great as well.
This is my newest watch and I am very much in love with it.
Have anyone encountered pulling the crown to hack and adjust the hour and minutes hands and suddenly the hands won't respond in the middle of adjustment? I returned the crown and readjusted again with success but I was wondering if something broke.
Has the water resistance been tested on this watch yet? I own 2 of these and the 50m wr is my only real complaint..
That’s all that’s holding me back...
@@arikjohnson412 I've swam with one of mine multiple times since this comment and had zero issues.
Khaki field day date is the best Hamilton or entry level auto.......fact!
Boom, it’s fact. Tom bringing the truth.
Yup, have two. best field watch in the industry. No screw-down no frikin hot tub.
Have you ever tested the water resistance of this watch? If so, what was the result? :)
Im searching the same
What happened to you saving for the Omega Seamaster?? Are you getting sidetracked?!
Big time
Greetings! Do you still own it ? I'm thinking on purchasing one ?
I appreciate you won’t read this rob but if you do, has the waterproofing held up ?
I never did keep or test
@@RandomRobReviews wow thanks for replying Rob. I love your videos !! 😀
Thoughts on getting this through Jomashop? Also does this include a tool for removing links?
First time I bought one was from Jomashop no problem. I use the baughblabs tool but a Bergeon 6767 works.
Random Rob I saw this model at jomashop with H-40 movement but it doesn’t have the “swiss made” label at the dial unlike yours. Is this normal?
@@gretony Hi! I read somewhere else that one specific year with the H40 did not come with a "Swiss made" label, but it's still the same great movement.
@@cole1 thanks! I ordered mine on jomashop and has the "swiss made" in the dial, looks like the pictures there were just not updated
@@gretony No problem, and good to hear! Looking forward to receiving mine :) Anything interesting you noticed about the watch?
What qualifies someone as a collector? I currently have 3, let's call them "real", watches, and I plan on buying several more. But my intention is for the watches to fill a role that I have for them. The main reason I buy them is because I've become infatuated with watches, but my strategy is more akin to that of buying clothes. I have a situation in which I want to dress a certain way for a certain activity, and I want a watch that's perfect for that occasion (Vostok Amphibia to beat around at the beach for example). So basically, within the next two years I'll probably end up owning around 8 watches. Would that make me a collector? Or do I have to intentionally and methodically collect them for that to be the case? It's quite a philosophical question tbh
I have the champagne dial.
Those are great too. Not sure I would wear though.
Hi, so I just bought this watch, my day/date movement changes at 2355/ 2356. Is that okay? I was hoping it would change over exactly at 0000. Any feedback shall be appreciated. Thank you.
Yeah it’s fine. Just depends on how the hands where set. There is variation
Mine changes at 2355, right at the edge of the day window. I take that as a plus, as you can watch the change without the minute hand obscuring the view.
How's the water resistance holding up?
Haha, great......I sold it. Sad part is I want one again now. Rebuy curse
@@RandomRobReviews Good to know lol, and sorry! I'll try and enjoy it for the both of us.
I love it EXCEPT for the day/date display.
Haha. Polar opposite
Lucky for you they make a no-date khaki. Just move along to the other end of the display case.
I've sold all of my watches to upgrade to a higher quality 3 piece collection (for now) I'm going to order one of these and a Glycine Combat Sub, I'm still considering what the 3rd piece will be.
Hard to believe I have yet to try the combat sub. Sounds like you have a good plan. Let me know what the 3rd one ends up being.
I hate the day date display cutting the numerals. A no-date version would be just about the perfect watch.
I agree! Hamilton have got a habit of messing up the aesthetics on some of thier bigger khaki field lines. They got it right with the 38mm version though
Went to a store to check this one out and it was a huge letdown...your video makes it look quite big but in reality it looked so tiny and unassuming. That's the thing with these super well made videos like yours...the watch really pops in this video but it didn't for me in real life.
What size is your wrist ?
Don't go into a hot tub with this watch. I had the exact same watch and the inside of the crystal fogged up after I got out of a hot tub.
Thanks for the heads up. Maybe I will cheat and keep my left wrist out. Guessing it’s the hot water and submerged.
No problem. The push-in crown is the one thing keeping this watch from being perfect IMO. I'd definitely buy it again if it weren't for that.
A 200 m diver will leak in a hot tub potentially. It's the heat softening the seals, not the water.
@@astifcaulkinyeras In most cases a screw crown does not make a watch more waterproof. It keeps you from pulling the crown out under water. If you can concentrate on not setting your watch under water, you should be ok. The king does have a crown guard which will help if you habitually brush your watch against underwater rocks.
I wouldn't trust the 50m rating that well
I don't understand why so many companies make a screw-down crown watch for two or three hundred for half or third a price of this watch. Why don't companies just make them legit waterproof 2 at least a hundred M? Like, I know lots of guys will defend it and say just take it off and all that but you should be able to shower in a watch and maybe go to or 3M, like an average swimming pool, without worrying... Right? It's 2018 and the technology is really really simple to make this happen and doesn't cost much. I'm sorry but companies like Seiko and Orient make it happen for $200 watches all day long. Hamilton is missing the ball and losing sales on this... at least from many of us watch types to actually look at specs including the very basic one of water resistance
I'm getting one for the simple reason that automatic movements are impervious to EMP's. If the North Korean's hit the USA with an EMP my automatic watch will still be working when all the quartz watches and cell phones are out of commission. Bet you never saw that reason for buying a Hamilton Khaki King coming - did you?
Nice. I’ll just use my sundial
That watch just screams NATO. 👌🏻
Why not everyone hamilton watch have "swiss made" on dial?
Because the older ones were made in Pennsylvania?
I've been thinking of buying one, but I'm thinking 40mm is too small. I am getting rid of a Rolex Explorer my wife got me just because I can't stand how small the 38mm looks on my wrist. If they had this in 43mm or so I would own one absolutely.
How about the Khaki Field without crown guards which is also available in 42mm diameter?
I wasn't aware of that variant. I'll check it out. Thanks for the heads up.
@@MegaBlackley should be model number H70515137 for the bracelet version. There are 38mm and 42mm versions, they are missing the day window but are more water resistant.
Swim with it yes, even wash dishes wearing it but please please please don’t shower or go in a hot tub with it!!! Every watch maker I know would tell you never shower or hot tub with your watch on! The temperature changes are just too severe plus it degrades all the seals! I know, it’s your watch you can do whatever you want with it... I just hate to see a beautiful watch like that being put through the ringer like that!
Food for thought:
I served on a warship. At night, there were black curtain booths pulled inside of every hatch that lead to the weather decks (outside).
When it behooves you for others to NOT know where you are...light emissions are not your friend.
I am just saying, for the Army, lume is probably not the best idea on a field watch.
So the bracelet looks like a regular cheaply made oyster, with sharp edges that might scrape off more skin than we might like? These are details you ignore.
Why does it have to have that day date complication (more so the day) just don’t like it. Wish it didn’t have it and would be a great daily beater
If you look, there are Khaki models with date only, and no-date. So, it doesn't have to be day date, unless you buy this watch. Then it does.
May be others also dislike because you didn’t show us on your wrist.
Harsh Nama
6:42 it goes on wrist.
Thanks for watching.
Oh yes sorry 😐 liked👍 it again, but I don’t the heavy wrist like you 😔
selling my hamilton. who want...
Even when you explicitly talk about the «bracelet» you move your hands so fast that it is hard to see where the links pivot and where they do not. Your hands keep moving abruptly back and forth in small jerks while you handle links and talk, but you fail to let your hands SHOW the relevant details of the links as you talk. That is not good, Rob/Robert.
cheto
The lume is downright pathetic. Even on size and aesthetics, the alpinist is a better watch for my wrist.
I have both (this and Sarb 017). For one thing, the king is a lot more accurate. The finish quality on the hands is better on the king and it has a domed crystal compared to flat on the Alpinist. The Alpinist has fancier case finish and those nice gilt hands/indexes. Of course the main point of distinction on the King is the full day complication. I won't dwell on the Alpinist strap, which most people remove on day 1.
