Polo you wont besurprised to know The Seekers started out as a folk and gospel group, The Seekers - featuring the golden soprano voice of Judith Durham, and smooth flawless harmonies of Athol Guy, Keith Potger and Bruce Woodley ....Just as Soul music of the 60s and todate has its roots in Gospel . The Seekers sound too came from their deeply spiritual and religious beliefs . Judith RIP passed away in 2022 from broncial illness that she had suffered all her life.....The SEEKERS from Australia were flown to England in 1964 in the middle of Beatle Mania they became overnight superstars with huge record sales in the U.S and UK and Worldwide ....50 million records ...
Sadly Judith Durham passed away a few months ago. Now every time I hear her sing now I have tears in my eyes. Truly the voice of an angel. Another song that was big back in the day was Georgie Girl.
The Seekers were the biggest band to come out of Australia during the mid-sixties and had a great sound. Judith Durham had a wonderful voice, and the backing vocals of Athol Guy, Keith Potger, and Bruce Woolley were a perfect accompaniment to it. You always get a warm feeling listening to their music - the voices are like an auditory hug. Try their songs "Georgy Girl" and "The Carnival is Over". RIP Judith D. My favourite similar bands would be The Mamas and the Papas and Peter Paul and Mary. Also I'd suggest Pentangle - an astonishing band that's a bit more folky but quite similar.
Pentangle's "Cruel Sister" is my favourite album of theirs. Jacqui McShee's vocals are amazing! Also Renaissance's "Turn of the Cards" album is another favourite of mine as Annie Haslam's vocals are also "wow!".
The Seekers started singing together in 1962. All of their music is beautiful. They were always a class act who actually knocked the stones and Beatles out of the number one spot on the chart with their Oscar nominated song, Georgie Girl, in 1967. In 1968, Judith left the band to go solo and got married. The Seekers got back together in 1992 and began rehearsing for their (25) silver jubilee concert series which took place in 1993. You will find it on RUclips and it’s fantastic. After that, they got together on special occasions and for charity events along with working on their own individual careers. In 1997, they put out another album called Future Road with new songs that they all contributed to plus two covers. It’s a great album. In 2014, they preformed their last concert series together for their golden anniversary. During that time, Judith had a brain bleed and had to be admitted into the hospital. After she recovered, they went on to finish their tour. This would be it for Judith though. When she was a child, she had measles and it caused her to develop a lung disease with caused her to have heart problems. On August 5, 2022, she passed away from the disease. She was a kind, caring and classy person with a beautiful voice.
I want to be Judith Durham when I grow up. Not only is she a spectacular songstress, but she is gorgeous! This whole group just blends together so well. I remember hearing this song when I was young… Like when the song came out. They have a song called Georgie Girl that was very popular and I remember playing that record over and over again. It was a different era and I’m glad I experienced it. I was so sad when I heard that Judith passed this last year. Even as this group aged, they sounded astounding and passed the test of time.
A great group from the early 1960s that are similar to The Seekers is "Peter, Paul and Mary." They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fane in 1999. They had a ton of hits including: Puff the Magic Dragon, 500 Miles, Where Have all the Flowers Gone, Leaving on a Jet Plane, Cruel War and Blowing in the Wind. Great vocalists, great harmony.
Fabulous Aussie group. I like your calming presence. Good reactions. You will perhaps enjoy The Carnival is over, or Georgia Girl. The Seekers broke up when on top, then got back together decades later. Judith Durham sounded exactly the same. We Are Australia is a classic from their second period.
The boys have released a song that Judith recorded the Melody to a couple years before she died. The boys have completed it and they debuted it at her internationally broadcast State Memorial Service. Again Amazing. There final gift to all the fans. It is called Carry On.
The Seekers were an absolutely outstanding group .... and Judith Durham without doubt had one of the greatest voices of all time. You have excellent taste .... i am 66 years old and was brought up on beautiful songs like this.
Hi! Thanks for your reaction to my FAVOURITE group of all time! I grew up with this group! TRULY beautiful! We lost Judith 5th August last year! Cried on and off all day! Try The Carnival is over, Colours of my life, George Girl, When the Stars begin to fall! That’s just a few! Any of those are fabulous! Thanks again! Peace and Blessings from Australia.
You definitely need to hear the Mamas & the Papas, very similar and lovely folk-pop vibe from the same era. Great stuff. Also from this era/movement are the (all-male) supergroup Crosby, Stills, Nash (& sometimes Young), as well as one of my most respected bands of all time, the Byrds. They also don't have any female singers but they feature incredible guitarwork on a 12-string guitar. Amazing stuff. (David Crosby of the previously mentioned supergroup started out with the Byrds, and coincidentally, sadly just passed away. ) You've already done some responses to Simon & Garfunkel, they were also a part of that folk revival. :) Not surprising that since you liked those you'd like this as well.
iv been watching seeker videos all day and I dont care. Judiths voice is something else and I cry every time I hear her and the guys in this group sing so clearly as well. But this Australian group have this anthem song 'I am Australian ' and its simply the best anthem I have ever heard. powerful inspiring for all people. I live down under, but im a kiwi.
This was the first song that came on in my car after my dad's funeral in 2002. thankfully my husband was driving because I was a mess. I will suggest Petula Clark and The 5th Dimension which is from the same time. Incredible talent. If you want to get into some late 60's psychedelic then you gotta listen to Iron BUtterfly "In The Time Of OUr LIves" and "Soul Experience". SO so good!
Check out the song "I am Australian" By The seekers: Its cool it begins with a digeredoo playing "We are one, but we are many and from all the lands on earth we come".
Never grows old; simply & real musical talent, great harmony & Judith’s exquisite voice. Even up to their retirement from a few years ago, The Seekers have maintained that great distinctive sound. Listen to 'The Seekers' Discography early & often.
When I was a kid, I thought the Mamas and the Papas sang this song; their harmony was reminiscent of the Ms & Ps (I thought), and I'm only just now catching up to the Seekers.
I've heard many people praise Judith Durham's amazing voice in many ways and they all are correct to do so, but I have never heard it described as "golden" before. You, sir, have hit the nail on the head. In one word, you have described the essence of her talent.
Her voice is fantastic, as are their harmonies. And this was a live performance. My other big favorite by them is 'Georgy Girl', their biggest hit here in the states, and my favorite song in the world for a while in early 67 (there was so much great music back then a song never remained a favorite for all that long). I wasn't even in Kindergarten yet when this song was a hit, but I was already a huge music fan, growing up in a very musical family with six older siblings and parents who loved music. I loved this song back then and still do. Great choice. Check out 'Georgy Girl' for sure.
I listened and fell in love with their music in the 60s and they still have that magic to keep me listening to them today! Judith Durham's voice is just hypnotic to me anyway! It's a shame she passed about a year ago but I know I am happy that she was recorded and can be listened to today! For me when I started listening to them in the 60s and when I listen to them now it still amazing and her voice was never changing and always stayed wonderful till she was called to heaven to sing with the angels!
This is my second viewing of your reaction to this song. I totally agree that this is a definite 60's Playlist contender! You asked about similar bands/music. Maybe Peter, Paul and Mary? They were a big folk group.
This is a very favorite of mine. There is another version of this song that is sung much slower and really gives you the true meaning of very word. I am at a point in my life that I might lose my wife due to illness. I have many thoughts going forward and I know this will be the song I choose to honor her. Such a beautiful song that really tells the love you profess for that one special person. Thank you for featuring this song. For my wife "I'll Never Find Another YOU." ❤🧡💚💜💝
Judith Durham is one of my top five favorite singer of all time. If you like this you will love all of the music from her and this group "The Seekers".
I am 63 years old and when I was a kid when there’s song ‘Georgie Girl’ came out of the little speaker on my transistor radio…It epitomized summer in the 60s along with the Beach Boys.
George Girl was the Seekers biggest hit. Mommas and the Poppas, Kingston trio, Emilio Harris...Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt combined on an album...David letterman show performance..wow, Peter Paul and Mary
I have known this song for a long time. But I have never seen this particular live performance. Thanks man, great review. “Like A Rolling Stone” by (Bob Dylan) live @ Newport, is also amazing. It sounds very folky, just like The Seekers. I think you would enjoy it, and it’s also in black & white (mid 60’s). ✌️
Favourite Seekers song ? How long have you got ? 50yr long catalogue. Georgie Girl,Morningtown Ride,Carry Me,Colours Of My Life,The Carnival is Over,Rattler.......probably 40 more that were hits & twice that being more than liked by fans. Their fans are legion & Judith had a generational voice.Aussie legends. We have many...... Check out John Farnham although I recommend you only go down one rabbit hole at any giveb time !
Wonderful, wonderful Seekers. Australian icons and probably the first Aussie group to smash the international scene. Sadly, we lost our lovely Judith Durham last year. So many wonderful songs for you to explore.
Listen to her sing it 50 years later in their farewell concert - you won’t believe it for surcharge powerful finale to a wondrous singing life. Loved forever Judith R.I.P.
Judith had a music degree in performance. She had to work at it to be that good. She recently passed away from a long term lung ailment. RIP Judith, you'll always be my favorite from my young years.
Grew up through the 60's the music was magical, you could here the words so the songs stayed with you. The Seekers were superb. Listen to the Carnival is over.
I first played this record back in 1965 and wanted to learn more about this greatest sound from Australia! Other songs I remember back then include World Of Our Own, The Carnival Is Over, Some Day One Day, Mornington Ride and Georgie Girl
One of the few great love songs sung by a woman. Most love songs are penned and sung by men. Judith had the voice of an Angel and we were all saddened to hear of her passing into The Great Void. The Aussies already there have made her welcome. She will dwell in the House of The Lord forever.
What makes the Seekers better than the other folk groups is that they have divergence in their vocal ranges, rather than all being similar. Judith's natural voice is god tier.
No question, my favorite band from this period and this genre, folk/folk pop/folk rock is The Mamas & The Papas. Check out California Dreamin-1965, Monday, Monday-1968, Dedicated to the One I Love-1967. RIP Judith of The Seekers. ✌️🙏
Unfortunately this was a shortened version of the song for a TV show. You need to listen to the studio version that includes a musical interlude and another chorus. Judith Durham was one of those extra special voices and she kept her voice well into her old age. They had a number of hits and also did excellent covers of other bands. Judith Durham singing "Yesterday" is a wonderful listen. Another group that you might want to listen to from this era are the Springfields. Tom Springfield wrote many of the songs for the Seekers. Dusty Springfield spun off and became one of the great female solo artists of the 60's. I recommend "Island of Dreams," and "Silver Threads, Golden Needles" by them.
Growing up in this era has left me feeling perhaps unfairly privileged but at the same time, deeply missing so many of these beautiful people we’ve lost along the way. One band that comes to mind and in similar in someways to the Seekers is Spanky and our Gang. Two of their hits that come to mind are “Sunday Will Never Be The Same” and “ I’d like to get to know you”.
👍 👍 Great reaction to a timeless classic. Take a look at the video of them recording this LIVE in the studio. Also their LIVE performance of Georgey Girl.
The vid on RUclips supposedly showing the Seekers at Abbey Road recording "I'll Never Find Another You" in one take is actually part of an autobiographical documentary the band recorded around 1967/8. So in that instance, it's a staged (mimed) performance. But the vid just critiqued here is definitely live and was part of "Farewell The Seekers", recorded by the BBC in 1968.
You should check out The Carnival is Over by the Seekers. I'm pretty sure it's based on an old Russian folk song. It's touching, memorable with Judith's beautiful voice and the harmonies.
Prepare for a long and beautiful journey with the Seekers. They made music together over a 52 year span. Don't miss any of their music. They are one of those rare bands who sounded as good in concert as on their recordings. There are three definitive concerts to watch. 1968 that you took this clip from. This was their last performance together after their phenomenal 5 years of success. Then the 1993 Reunion Concert. Around 1995 they did a fantastic album called Future Road. They did several videos and an album documentary for this one. Then there Golden Jubilee Farewell Concert tour in 2013- 2014. Listen to everything you can find. You will be amazed. Get some popcorn and hit the head before you start.
Man I hadn't heard that song In 20 years, magic! If the old 60s stuff floats your boat, Peter, Paul & Mary might be a good fit. Leaving on a Jet Plane?
If you want to hear more from this era try The Righteous Brothers “Unchained Melody “ also “You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling” and “Soul and Inspiration “. You can’t go wrong. Thx
I was just nine years old when The Seekers just exploded from their native Australia onto the music scene in 1964 and just adored their every hit record in their four years together in the 1960s. The four members are L-R: Keith Potger, Bruce Woodly, Judith Durham (RIP) and Athol Guy. Sadly we lost Judith just under a year ago. Though they were together for just four years in the 1960s, with various revivals in the 1970s featuring different female lead vocalists, but not Judith, the original ckassic line-up seen here would not be seen again until about the late 1980s and the 1990s, and happily for fans everywhere, the four toured, performed and recorded together from then until their final farewell performance in 2014. Fans everywhere were delighted that the Seekers had lost none of their amazing abilites after such a long absence, and they were recording new songs, some written by guitarist Bruce Woodley, which remain essential parts of their rich calalogue of amazing folk and pop music. My favourite from among their new songs was I am Australian, co-written by Bruce Woodley, which many Australians believe should one day be Australia's national anthem.
Definitely check out the Mamas & Papas and Peter, Paul & Mary. I also like Spanky & Our Gang. Another beautiful voice is Mary Hopkin "Those Were the Days".
For The Seekers, "Georgy Girl" was their biggest hit. You should also check out some of the stuff by Renaissance. "Carpet of the Sun", "Running Hard", "Mother Russia", "Black Flame", and (the one which really shows off the lead vocalist's voice) "Ocean Gypsy". Also, the lead vocalist for them (Annie Haslam) did some solo stuff which is all really good.
Amazing...You made the statement in this review, "sometimes I feel I was born in the wrong era"... Well I'm 67, and I can barely remember 1964 at age 9. That said, I've said many times, I wish I was born perhaps 5 to 10 years earlier, as the music of the late 50's and 60's are truly spectacular!! ENJOY!!

We need music like this in today's world.
They were very influential in folk music but also made an impression on the rock world with their harmonies

Bruce Woodley wrote I am Australian, try the farewell performance.

I'm an Aussie but preferred P,P&M since I was a young teenager, attended two of their concerts and have most of their records and CDs.
Yep, they were another excellent group ...

Yes. Absolutely! But I think it’s Carry Me
The Seekers were an absolutely outstanding group .... and Judith Durham without doubt had one of the greatest voices of all time.
You have excellent taste .... i am 66 years old and was brought up on beautiful songs like this.
I love the Seekers.. The Carnival is Over is also beautiful.. I am Australian great too..
Always love hearing the Seekers and especially our beautiful Judith. RIP sweet Judith, you are missed.
Their 'Farewell Performance' singing 'I Am Australian' is iconic and shouldn't be missed. Love their songs more the older I get. 💕
If you haven't heard "I am Australian", bring tissues with you. If you loved Judith's voice on this one, wait for it. Angelic.
@tjmannion1 I can't listen to it anymore, weep every time. I will again, later though. 🙂
One of their greatest. Like fine wine their voices got better with age.
The Carnival is Over was my favourite Seeker's song. We played it at my Dad's funeral 30 years ago as it was one of his favourite songs of all time.
Same here but 13 years ago 😪
You nailed it when you said they all sing beautifully but hers soars over them.
Hi! Thanks for your reaction to my FAVOURITE group of all time! I grew up with this group! TRULY beautiful! We lost Judith 5th August last year! Cried on and off all day! Listen to the Seekers “Climb every mountain” and her high note at the end, Wow!
That's a Judith solo.
It makes me cry for lost youth.
A world of our own…Georgy Girl. She had a beautiful, crystal clear voice…never in any doubt as to the lyrics she was singing
Never grows old; simply & real musical talent, great harmony & Judith’s exquisite voice.

Thankfully we have recordings of these gems. She's in my top 5 female singers. Glad you appreciate true talent from us old folks

Wonderful, wonderful Seekers. Australian icons and probably the first Aussie group to smash the international scene. Sadly, we lost our lovely Judith Durham last year. So many wonderful songs for you to explore.
Listen to their song, Georgy Girl, title to the movie with Lynn Redgrave. It’s another uplifting, melodic song I think you’d enjoy!
They did a children’s lullaby called Morningtown Ride that is very sweet
I loved Judith Durham from the first time I heard that voice (1960s). Incredible
Listen to her sing it 50 years later in their farewell concert - you won’t believe it for surcharge powerful finale to a wondrous singing life. Loved forever Judith R.I.P.
Island of Dreams by the Seekers is great too!
“The Carnival Is Over” is an astounding song by The Seekers.
Judith died a short time ago. What a loss. 😞
The Seekers, the new seekers, and the byrds all do it for me. Turn turn turn has that great uplifting angelic sound. Bliss.
I first played this record back in 1965 and wanted to learn more about this greatest sound from Australia! Other songs I remember back then include World Of Our Own, The Carnival Is Over, Some Day One Day, Mornington Ride and Georgie Girl
Beautiful Judith RIP.
True singer, imagine whith our technology
So do I love this era and I grew up listening to them in Australia ❤

No question, my favorite band from this period and this genre, folk/folk pop/folk rock is The Mamas & The Papas. Check out California Dreamin-1965, Monday, Monday-1968, Dedicated to the One I Love-1967.
RIP Judith of The Seekers. ✌️🙏
We'll never find another you, Judith. RIP.
My fav Seekers song .. The Carnival is Over ...
that was their first record, went to no. one everywhere! listen too- the carnival is over, morningtown ride, georgy girl
Love this and their song "Georgy Girl"!
They had a big hit in UK called “The Carnival Is Over” , (which kept The Who’s “My Generation” off No 1 spot. )
You have excellent taste in music young Sir! Warm Wishes from Australia🦘☀
Judith, one of the most remarkable voices ever....and she had a lifelong lung desease! "When The Stars Begin To Fall" is amazing.
👍 👍
Great reaction to a timeless classic.
Try them singing The Carnival is Over. Her voice is just beautiful. I also like I am Australian from the Seekers.
Other songs of theirs I love are The Carnival is Over, Emerald City, Morningtown Ride, they were just fabulous ❤️😀
You should check out The Carnival is Over by the Seekers. I'm pretty sure it's based on an old Russian folk song. It's touching, memorable with Judith's beautiful voice and the harmonies.
I love how you said that… I was born in the wrong era… my dad used to say that to me all the time! I was born 1976. But I love elvis, Johnny cash etc
Thank you for the privilege of joining you on your journey! I absolutely love Judith Durham's voice.
She has been musically trained it makes a big difference in music
We sang the seekers song, Lemon Tree in primary school in Sydney, Australia , check out Quicksilver Messenger Service
You were born in the right era buddy, you just appreciate beautiful voices, musicianship and lyrics that mean something 👍🏻
RIP Judith Durham who suffered like Karen Carpenter from press attacks regarding her looks
If you like vintage. Check out a band called "The hollies." "Look through any window" and many more
Man I hadn't heard that song In 20 years, magic!
Thx
Her voice is like butter
One of the best songs ever done.
Georgia girl is another beautiful song of theirs
One of my favorite 60s tunes "Sherry" by the Four Seasons
Definitely check out the Mamas & Papas and Peter, Paul & Mary. I also like Spanky & Our Gang. Another beautiful voice is Mary Hopkin "Those Were the Days".
Unchained melody by the righteous brothers . Very good . From 1965 .
Check out The Cowsills "The Rain, the Park & Other Things (1967)
Fav seekers song: world of our own
The Sandpipers were wonderful as well.
ENJOY!!
