This helps me so much each time I hear him share this answer. Assurance is always something I've struggled with, I don't have that "Christian' birthdate. But by God's grace I can look back and remember a time where I claimed to know and love Jesus but by the fruit of my life it was clear I had no love for him in my heart. Whereas now I know I have a love and affection for Jesus and have truly turned to him as Lord of my life. And there is such a difference in my desire to know, love, and obey him as compared to where I once was that praise God he has saved me.

What he is stating here does not contradict that belief; in fact, much of what he is saying comes directly from scripture and supports sola fide, for it would be impossible to love Christ without first believing in him (or his atoning sacrifice).

It was RC that led me to look into my Heart and Soul to privately examine if I had any Love " at all " for Jesus... My heart and soul and the Holy Spirit in me confirmed to my Spirit that I loved him and yet I still sinned. How could that be? I was raised in an "add works to the true gospel" church that taught they were the only church going to heaven. ( think Galatians adding circumcision work to the true Gospel given them at their founding). Close but no Cigar.! SIMIL JUSTUS Et PECCATOR ! AFTER 60 YEARS IT FINALLY MADE SENSE...I NOW HAVE ASSURANCE BEFORE TOTAL SANCTIFICATION. JESUS SAID " MY GRACE IS SUFFICIENT UNTO YOU, AND YOU AND YOU AND YOU.....HEAR HIS VOICE!
Remember that Sproul was part of the Calvinist cult. He really believed that people are predestined for heaven and hell prior to creation. The harmful implications of this cult affect how people view Jesus atonement for sins, and salvation per se. If God picked who would be saved prior, then Jesus’ sacrifice doesn’t matter. God already picked. And then we have to ask, who is responsible ultimately for sin if we don’t control it, and why would God make robots? Calvinism is a cult.

I know i am saved because of what Jesus did for me, He shed his blood for the forgiveness of all of my sins, was buried and rose again on the third day. There is nothing i can do to save myself. It's the most beautiful thing in existence, and He deserves all the glory.
Salvation is not based upon my love for Him-but His love for me...which I cannot purchase, obtain, or attain to...and it's because of His love for me, that's what produces within me, my love for Him. I do love Jesus and he knows I do. He also knows I don't love him perfectly, he also sees my lapses and fall back into sin. But he keeps picking me up again, to which I am literally eternally grateful. I do have genuine affection in my heart for God, and when I think of the sacrifice on the cross I am utterly amazed.
I have struggled with this question for over five years, beginning when I was eleven. I have had many sleepless nights with fear, and have had agonizing moments. But just knowing what Christ did for me on the cross, taking the full undiluted wrath of God for me when suffering the most horrible death, how can I not love and want to serve him? If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ is Lord, you are born again, and made righteous. We are all born in Adam positionally. But when you place saving faith in Jesus, and trust that He is the risen Christ, you are positionally in Him, and He permanently swells in you. I was saved about two months ago and I am So terrified that MOST the people I know don’t seem to be saved. It’s makes me nauseous and the Grief I feel is SOO deep. I’m not sure what to do now. I feel like our time is running out. How can I witness to those who say they believe but don’t act like it? I have peace knowing God is the boss and I don’t have to control everything but use my 30 years of knowledge to teach mercy the way Jesus has taught me. Pray for me
Show them what the Bible says. If they are Christians, the word of God will convict them. If they are not Christians, they may not heed scripture, but in that case they still need to hear the Gospel. I suggest specifically Romans 6

I'm always blessed when I listen in on these talks. I was many miles along my journey of faith before I understood that the command of Romans 12:2 was not a once and done kind of thing. Rather, renewing our minds is to be a daily discipline. I believe Paul intimates that fact as he writes, "I die daily." Blessings.

Just discovered this clip. Sooo good. Just had a good discussion about this topic. One of the things that came up too was “choosing to engage in the battle against sin even when we face failure (and do fail)” which really is a result of that love for Jesus and not a separate qualification.

Salvation begins by God reaching out to us (He starts it, not we) and gives us grace, but you are wrong if you think we have no saying in it. We accept the grace God has offered and coopperate with it.

Before his works there always first was faith. Works are proof of what is gifted to us: the salvation of the LORD. If there is no work in a Christian life he/she should be really asking if there was a promised transformation of the heart. We work out of gratitued, not out of need to add something to the finished work of CHRIST. GOD is good, always. He promised HE will save us and HE did. As a Christian it still makes no sense to me that God would say for God so loved THE WORLD that he gave his only son that WHOSOEVER believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. Or He died ONCE for ALL. IT does not say he died for only the chosen...it does not say he only loved the chosen. It says he loved us ALL. It also makes no sense that he wants none to perish but yet he has only chosen some. If he can make everybody believe then why did he not do that he shows Grace to us all he shows some of us and if he can show some of us and he has the ability to do that then it makes no sense that he would only choose some when he can change every heart. Him being able to do that because he's God it's his power his Mercy his grace that extends to us. So it doesn't make sense to say I love the world but I only chose some of you even though I could choose all of you if I want because I'm God I can transform all of you because I'm God but I'm not going to. But I love you all but not really to me that makes no sense. This helps me so much each time I hear him share this answer. Assurance is always something I've struggled with, I don't have that "Christian' birthdate. But by God's grace I can look back and remember a time where I claimed to know and love Jesus but by the fruit of my life it was clear I had no love for him in my heart. Whereas now I know I have a love and affection for Jesus and have truly turned to him as Lord of my life. And there is such a difference in my desire to know, love, and obey him as compared to where I once was that praise God he has saved me.

If you’re a Calvinist then you wouldn’t believe that someone can be hardened beyond their total depravity. Total means total. There is no room to become even more depraved than that.

It was RC that led me to look into my Heart and Soul to privately examine if I had any Love " at all " for Jesus... My heart and soul and the Holy Spirit in me confirmed to my Spirit that I loved him and yet I still sinned. How could that be? I was raised in an "add works to the true gospel" church that taught they were the only church going to heaven. ( think Galatians adding circumcision work to the true Gospel given them at their founding). Close but no Cigar.!

I do love Jesus and he knows I do. He also knows I don't love him perfectly, he also sees my lapses and fall back into sin. But he keeps picking me up again, to which I am literally eternally grateful. I do have genuine affection in my heart for God, and when I think of the sacrifice on the cross I am utterly amazed.
I have struggled with this question for over five years, beginning when I was eleven. I have had many sleepless nights with fear, and have had agonizing moments. But just knowing what Christ did for me on the cross, taking the full undiluted wrath of God for me when suffering the most horrible death, how can I not love and want to serve him? I was saved about two months ago and I am So terrified that MOST the people I know don’t seem to be saved. It’s makes me nauseous and the Grief I feel is SOO deep. I’m not sure what to do now. Show them what the Bible says. If they are Christians, the word of God will convict them. If they are not Christians, they may not heed scripture, but in that case they still need to hear the Gospel. I suggest specifically Romans 6
I agree with Mitchell. And I would add, pray for them. For their salvation and for opportunity. Don’t put the full burden and responsibility on yourself. Pray, trust God, be wise, obey.

@@GladysRWhite I don't want to quotemine scripture to make a "counter". I think I get what you intend but we are saved only though faith by GODs grace. Like Abraham was justified so are we. Before his works there always first was faith. Works are proof of what is gifted to us: the salvation of the LORD. If there is no work in a Christian life he/she should be really asking if there was a promised transformation of the heart. We work out of gratitued, not out of need to add something to the finished work of CHRIST.
GOD is good, always. He promised HE will save us and HE did. Not anyone of us can do any good regarding our salvation by our filthy rags we call good works.
I think there is a greater risk in not accepting this truth as being primarely concerned about works. Don't get me wrong: works are important but not the way most of us think.

As a Christian it still makes no sense to me that God would say for God so loved THE WORLD that he gave his only son that WHOSOEVER believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. Or He died ONCE for ALL. IT does not say he died for only the chosen...it does not say he only loved the chosen. It says he loved us ALL. It also makes no sense that he wants none to perish but yet he has only chosen some. If he can make everybody believe then why did he not do that he shows Grace to us all he shows some of us and if he can show some of us and he has the ability to do that then it makes no sense that he would only choose some when he can change every heart. Him being able to do that because he's God it's his power his Mercy his grace that extends to us. So it doesn't make sense to say I love the world but I only chose some of you even though I could choose all of you if I want because I'm God I can transform all of you because I'm God but I'm not going to. But I love you all but not really to me that makes no sense. Do I believe we are chosen to a certain extent yes we are chosen because God knows we still have to accept his gift and to accept and to believe there's a choice in that

Be very careful my friend, you cannot love the Lord your God with every atom and fibre of your being. If you were to love God as the scriptures require, there would none left for your loved ones.!!! Only the Lord Jesus can love perfectly. Why did the Lord make the 10 commandments? He made them, to show us we could not keep them, thereby showing us we needed someone who could keep them, (Jesus) We are commanded to love the Lord thy God perfectly, but how can we that are imperfect, love perfectly, we can't, so, it is done on our behalf, by Jesus. We can do nothing, it is all done for us, by Him who loves us perfectly. Peace.

everytime i do what I am not suppose to do I remember what Paul said in Rom 7. He did what he aught not to do and what he should do he did not do...but he says it was because of grace that he was saved.
The key is what Jesus said: whosoever wants to follow me 1) deny himself (don't do what you want) 2) take up your cross, to crucify your carnality daily
Mathew 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
We need to work out our salvation daily, we need to die to the self and crucify our carnality daily. We must hear and obey His voice personally directing our every day path if we are His sheep. We aren't "there" yet! With the help of God we will endure, but make sure you don't take it for granted.
There’s another group..those that are truly saved,but struggles with having assurance all the time
There's also the group that knows we don't even need saving because we are not sinners.

God is not going to let anyone fall as long as you accept him. He is your life long coach. He pushes when needed and comforts when needed. Your relationship is between you & God, he knows if you are truthful or not. But, whether you die today or Jesus returns before you die you MUST endure til the end. You MUST believe in his return.
Is one trusting in the complete finish cross work And resurrection of Christ or in fruit work's, which one do they trust in? Even Romans 4th chapter says he that worketh not .

But, the best way I think I can answer this is, if you truly, truly believe in God you or anyone else, have nothing, nothing to worry about. Belief & works go hand in hand. If you 100% believe you will 100% do his works. Don't get me wrong some may be preachers, where some may just be a quiet church goer. Both are doing Gods work. We are all created different & for good reason. We all have different purposes & jobs to do.
Well to this I would reply Ephesians first chapter verse 13, 1st Corinthians the 15th chapter verse 1 to 4, Ephesians the second chapter verse 8 and 9 and Romans the 4th chapter.
You can never ever have assurance of salvation if it relies on anything you have to do. If you have to rely on your obedience then tell me how much obedience to know you are saved? Faith alone. Christ paid for my sins. I have no sins to pay for . All glory to him. Not me. Calvinism infects every part of the Bible

The problem is the Calvinist heresy. If God chooses who to save, you CANNOT know if you're saved, but if you believe God wants all to be saved then you can have assurance
Foolish Drunk i too reject Calvinism and trust only the words of Jesus. Yet, ANYONE can know with absolute assurance they are saved because they will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, which God places in the heart of every believer. Ask yourself, why does someone decide to be saved? When we realize we are sinners and we cannot stop sinning, and know we are on our way to HELL... When we hear the gospel and realize that Jesus took our rightful punishment for us, and put our trust in Jesus.. earnestly from our hearts and not just with our lips, then we are seeking Jesus.. and Jesus promises, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened.. it is at that moment that we become saved, when we acknowledge that we desperately need God's forgiveness through the blood of Jesus Christ. @@foolishdrunk2181 YOU ARE NOT SAVED if you don't have the Holy Spirit.. JESUS KNOWS WE WILL STILL SIN WHILE WE ARE STILL IN OUR FLESH, which is why he sends the Holy Spirit to strengthen us. I encourage you to learn all you can about the Holy Spirit. Only God knows whether your friends actually received the Holy Spirit
