I’ve literally never touched a drum kit, but every time one of these videos comes across my feed I watch it all the way through. Something about them just scratches my brain or something lol
Soca was invented in my country of Trinidad and Tobago!!🇹🇹🇹🇹 Love the beat!
Light a cigar on it
20 years ago I tried to create a beat based on off-beats. That's what I ended up with.
10 years ago, I found out it was a Soca, but I played it as 4 on the floor and 8th notes. Thinking I'd created a variation, I called it a Roca, because I saw it as the Rock version of a Soca.
Now, this video just showed me the whole thing is a very common variation of the Soca beat.
......just when you think you're being original....
Pls never stop doing these!
I know this one as the Dem Bow rhythm, never heard the term soca before.
I love this grove. The thing i do to spice it up is to play the 8th notes alternateing between thw bell of the ride and the ride and keep quarters happening in your feet.
That beat is droving me mad here in my country...everyyyy whereee...day and night..
Is hell
Dancehall or reggaeton rhythm nice!
Really cool how she explains each groove, and simplifies everything!
Super cool well explained
In South Africa 🇿🇦, we call it the "African Beat". ❤
Love the smile you get when you get into a grove 😊 v cooL to see how much you love rhythm
I like messing around and accenting the AHs and playing the + beats softer or reversing thst too sounds cool!
This is the genre I play......very nice the origin is Trinidad & Tobago but get ready for the French infused variation from the French part of the caribbean called Bouyon
Very clearly explained
I am born in this beat😂
For anyone that loves it played heavy, Twenties by Ghost really scratches that itch for me
🥰
❤️
Reggeaton ;) definitely 🤙
Soca was invented in Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹
Yep as well is used in soca , but it comes from Africa originally
Dang, I am one step away from blowing the dust of my drumset, has been standing idle for years now 😅
Emma: *looks totally disgusted* - "very nice"😂
I actually haven't been in a club in the last 20 years. 😂😂😂
I always thought of this as the “Latino beat,” I like to switch between this and a 332.
I’m a lefty with limited knowledge do I start with left first thanks .
How do u spice it up?
Serious question. What's the difference between Reggaeton and Soca?
The emphasis on the “and” of 2 and 4 is soca. The emphasis on the downbeat of 3 is reggae. This is a wild oversimplification and both are extremely nuanced styles but with my limited knowledge this is how’d I describe it
@@teethsjuice But I asked about Reggaeton not Reggae. I think it's's the same rhythm.
@@MS-dz1diI have a Godsister from the Caribbean and I grew listening tons of different dance music from there. When I heard this drummer play I immediately heard Reggaeton groove. I then went back to listen to Soca from the 90s and realized the groove is practically the same. However in Soca it tends to be more percussive in the mix sitting further away from other instruments whereas Raggaeton focused the groove with bigger emphasis on the snare, hihat and bass drum with its unique sound. This my observation and do not claim to be an expert.
ZOUK and Calypso use this rythm too
I havent played drums, but in 6-7 years of performing, from my audio memory, i could
Play this without knowing whats it called or the fundamentals. How is that possible?
You got extra ENERGY!! Nice...NOW add paradiddles!! Can You??
Its one of the 5 moneybeats.
Reggaeton
😅😅😅
You call it soca we call it reggaeton,
Or the British version:
You call it soca it's actually called footbah
nope. dembow isnt something you can replicate on drums. you need a program.
I HATE this beat. Its extremely overused and nobody ever spices it up in a clever way
i hate reggaeton with a passion. it's overused since a decade, ... like autotune effects.
This groove is all that’s wrong in the world of music. Especially when it has an accordion and some jarring vocals along with it. Name me a good song that has this beat
