Harry, I watched the video and I noticed you forgot about a few kinds of forces, Millennium force, Red force, Gale force, Steel force, and Expedition GeForce all deliver unique forces you cannot experience anywhere else, Otherwise, great job!
I haven't been on any of those roller coasters except for Galeforce...very interesting coaster to say the least. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't worth the ticket amount also way too short of a ride.
I was thinking the same thing. Seems like it's the most popular coaster for people to gray or black out on. I didn't ride it when I was at Kings Dominion because I was afraid I'd black out + anxiety attack following the black out like I did when I rode Storm Runner a few years back.
Amazing video that makes these somewhat nebulous concepts easily understandable. Just came back from six flags great adventure yesterday, pushed some personal limits, and had an awesome time with friends. Thank you!
I'm glad I found this series, your explanation style is easy to understand and eye opening for someone trying to overcome their coaster fear. Thank you
This must be your best video!! Big up, even if I knew how forces act now it’s all more clear to me and I finally comprehend the concept of greying or blacking out that was difficult to me as I’m Italian
Thank you, it means a lot! If you like my stuff, I suggest listening to our podcast - Coaster Bot Rambles. You can learn more about it here: coasterbot.com/podcast
For real tho this is my favorite video by great job now I can show this to people so they understand forces thank you and loved how you where in the video riding icon at black pool pleasure beach
Great job and that was a lot of information to be obtained. Did your research well I might add. The one thing that I don't understand is that the lateral g forces are the ones that can cause you to gray out or black out and I rode Storm Runner back in 2012 and I blacked out on it during the launch and regained consciousness towards the end of the ride. There were no lateral g forces during the launch...I have thought that maybe it happened because I was nervous and dehydrated at the time I was on the ride. I rode it again 2 months ago and did not black out at all.
On roller coasters, it's usually positive vertical g-forces that cause you to black out. These are the ones which push you down into your seat. However, being nervous and dehydrated will make blacking out much easier.
That is the conclusion that I came up with after thinking about it that it had to have been due to dehydration and nerves because 2 months ago I didn't black out and made sure I was hydrated and wasn't nervous.
These are all the things I love about rollercoasters! The different gforces give me the exhilaration that I always enjoy! I even grayed out every time I rode Intimidator 305 around the first turn. That’s how awesome the coaster is! Thanks for this awesome video about my favorite thing about coasters! 🎢🎢
Any reason why launched g-forces (linear ones) feel more intense than positive g-forces experienced on banked turns? For example most roller coaster launches are usually only around 1.4 g's but they always feel intense. However many roller coasters such as millennium force supposedly produce nearly 5 g's on the turns, however I never remember an intense feeling during the turns.
The human body can withstand some g-force types better than others. For example, are bodies are pretty good at withstanding positive vertical g-forces, the one's which many rides reference their high g-force number about. Other types we aren't very good at withstanding. That's what you are experiencing here :)
The reaction to the force, e.g. the way your body reacts to the force, is opposite to the direction of the force. Therefore, as airtime makes you ride us, negative g-forces force the train down towards the ground. On the opposite side, positive forces push the trains up away from the rails.
4:07 the strongest ⏬️positive G force I’ve experienced was from wild eagle at Dollywood and the most ⏫️negative G force I felt was from Goliath at Six flags over Georgia. Sometimes I don’t feel a thing like on the Incredible Hulk at universal and Twisted cyclone at Six Flags over Georgia. 🔀 Hell sometimes I feel both like with the Tennessee tornado at Dollywood ↕️
2:15 If we start splitting hairs, essentially all g-forces are caused by a change in speed. The direction of force is determined by the direction in which the speed changes. For example, let's say that a Wild Mouse train moves towards a sharp U-turn at 20 KPH. As the train turns around, its speed along its original direction of motion on the horizontal x plane is reduced to zero, and then goes to negative. We feel the change in speed along the original direction of motion as lateral g-forces as the train goes around the turn. The same applies to airtime hills, there the train's speed on the vertical y plane is turned around, and we feel it as airtime.
If we're splitting hairs even more the g-forces are caused by a change in velocity, as the change of speed in a certain direction is what causes the accelerational forces. Speed doesn't always have to change for acceleration to occur, as you said. A change in direction, even when the speed is maintained, requires an acceleration :)
Thanks! My videos take quite a while to produce. I made a video about the whole process and how long it roughly takes. You can watch it here: ruclips.net/video/Jojsw9mVC7E/видео.html
High positive g forces can be really annoying like on poltergeist an Six Flags Fiesta Texas. I wanna see the track ahead of me and enjoy the view of being in a bunch of twisted metal, but no! Instead, can only see a bit in the middle where everything else is dark gray or black. :
I love the informational and educational angle of these videos! It's loads of fun for me to learn about the many roller coasters available in the world, as well as what makes them thrilling~ You guys thinking about doing a video on Universal Orlando's Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit?
so, one thing i have been wondering about, why do almost all modern coaster trains have even numbers of seats in each row?eg some have 2 seats per row, or 4 or 8 ext., but none that i am aware of have 3 or 5 or 7 ext, so why is that?
My lizard brain always freaks out on negative g-forces on hills. I wish it didn't because I'd probably enjoy the ride more. I'm left clinging and gabbing onto something on the verge of primal panic thinking I'm gonna 'fly out' of the ride. Even though I know logically while getting on it that that can't happen. Any recommendations how to stop my brain from doing this? I think if I got on Hershey parks Comet or Wild Cat 10 times in a row lizard brain might... figure it out.

Lol and roller coaster force
The depiction of greying out during the i305 footage is quite spot on, I love it!
Thanks! :)
Lol, starts talking about graying and blacking out and immediately shows footage of I-305.
It would be rude not to! ;)

Watching this before i ride Hulk in November or December. It truly helps, thank you
What about Millenium forces?
I love your videos! Y’all make me feel smart because I know a lot of this stuff. Great job!
That's awesome to hear, thanks for watching :)
One of the most interesting and informative videos you’ve ever made, very niceee!
Thank you, that's great to hear! :)
This is one of the best videos you have ever made. Great job, dude!
Thank you, it really means a lot! :)

0:51 the rollercoaster is storm runner at hersheypark. I live in the same town as this place lol
That's awesome!
Thank you for explaining how someone greys out! I always wondered what happens if you grey out.
Your vision basically becomes super blurry and you feel like you’ve passed out
I am doing an assignment on roller coaster forces and this was quite helpful. Thanks.
Best video so far, keep it up!
Thank you, I will do! ;)
Ur voice is so calming. I could listen to this all day
Thank you very much! :)
For real tho this is my favorite video by great job now I can show this to people so they understand forces thank you and loved how you where in the video riding icon at black pool pleasure beach
Harry Nye the science guy
My physics teacher decided to have us design a rollercoaster as part of our final exam, so I've been binging these for over an hour
That's an awesome assignment!
I would love an assignment like that!
Love your vids man.
Thank you! :)
Beautiful video Harry, making the GP educated one video at a time

Great video once again!
Thanks Sean! :)
Very thorough, very informative. Well done again, Harry! 👍🏻😊
Thanks Makaria! :)

The airtime hill after I305's first turn is perfectly placed. It's good for getting all the blood back to your brain.
Awesome ! I was waiting for a episode on G forces and their function.
Superb ! Thanks.
No problem, thanks for watching :)
Great vid harry! I hadn’t realised laterals were sideways forces.
Thanks! I'm glad you learnt something :)
There is this one turn on Ghostrider that is super long and barely banked and it packs some hella crazy laterals.

All gigas have 4.5 gs

What a great video! You’re editing skills are amazing and you videos are very informative.
Thank you, you're too kind :)
Great video. Really interesting.
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! :)
Isnt the force which pushes the train down the positive and that one which pulls the train up the negative??? 2:58
The reaction to the force, e.g. the way your body reacts to the force, is opposite to the direction of the force. Therefore, as airtime makes you ride us, negative g-forces force the train down towards the ground. On the opposite side, positive forces push the trains up away from the rails.

Always cool seeing your home park in videos, looking at you Mako.
Love your videos! ❤️
Thank you! :)
Why are you showing Icon when talking about forces?
Jack Knueve it shows him experiencing the forces like you see him come out of his seat and stuff
Icon has some great examples of negative and lateral g-forces! :)
Jack Knueve because it's forcefull
Great video thanks

Wonderfully explained and educational!!! I AM A STRONG NEGATIVE G JUNKIE!!! EJECTOR AIRTIME ALL DAY!!! From the back seat of course! 😄

I think we've all done that on at least one ride. The more you ride roller coasters like this the more you get used to that sensation, as you said! :)
This channel is so underrated
Thank you, that means a lot :)
Awesome Video!
Thanks! :)
COASTER BOT Your Welcome!
Hey Harry. I'm planning on making a vlog/compilation of clips I got from Thorpe park. What music would you recommend?
I'm not sure, I usually just listen to a lot of royalty free music and choose one with a decent beat! :)
Nice video! I guess some of the clips where made during your trip through europe? I think i've seen the parks Tippsdrill, Heide Park and Hansa Park in there.
Thank you, and that's very true. I think Heide Park, Hansa Park and Walibi Holland were all featured :)
Very informative!
Thanks! :)
at 6:59 just before the ride clip of icon what park is that? thought it was bpb with avalanche in the background but theres not a B&M there
nevermind just realised it's heide park and thats flug der dämonen
Which coaster is that at 1:41?
The Smiler at Alton Towers in the UK :)
What is the rollercoaster @1:53
Goliath at Walibi Holland :)
Thank you man! Much appreciated
Very informative video!
Thank you!
Were you at Kings Dominion w/ Taylor on July 11? I think I saw you two get on Flight of Fear after getting off Intimidator 305.
(edit) Also your visualization of the grey out on Intimidator 305 is really accurate.
I wasn't I'm afraid, but I'm glad you like the grey out scene in the video :)
Your editing is perfect! (Like you don't know already lol)
You are way too kind ;)
You should've posted this video on the 4th of May.
the lineair gforce being increase or decrease is also known as momentum where the person or object in the train or a car goes forward while the train or car itsself doesnt go forward (wich can cause accidents if no seatbelts are worn)
Momentum plays a part within all of the force types, this is very true :)
This is so cool!
So is this specifically the reason at least partially why people black out on the Sling Shot a lot too?
At 6:43 the sentence should be corrected. 'Comfortable' will be contested by anyone who finds the 'stomach drop' wierd or even painful.
You forgot about inertia. That’s why you get slammed into your seat when you slow down or speed up. Itz’s similar to linear g forces I think. I also haven’t taken physics in a while so I could be wrong. Also thank you for finally explaining the different types of airtime! I keep hearing floater and ejector and never knew the difference.
Inertia is essentially the reason you 'move' in your seat as a result of the respective forces. It's a component of the process in all directions. I should have mentioned it briefly but completely forgot, sorry! I'm glad you learnt something too :)
Great video!
But I think what you describe as positive and negative forces, actually are vertical forces. All three types (lateral, vertical and linear) can have positive and negative forces:
Positive linear: launches / Negative linear: Brakes
Positive vertical: valleies / Negative vertical: Airtime
Positive / Negative lateral: to the right / left
Well I'm not a physics student, but that makes sense for me and that's what I've heared so far :D
Positive and Negative forces are under the umbrella of vertical g-forces yes, and I forgot to mention this. However, lateral and linear g-forces affect the human body the same regardless of direction. This is not true of vertical g-forces. This cannot be said about the other 2 force groups. Nevertheless, thank you :)
OK thank you for your explanation! :D
Is gravitational force is similarly to acceleration force?
What exactly do you mean by then? All forces cause acceleration, as gravity accelerates you towards the ground. Could you clarify more? :)
how can i submit video clips of coasters for these?
Send me an email to contact@coasterbot.com with the link to the footage on RUclips. :)
When I was at Cedar Point I started to grey out on Millennium Force after that huge drop. It was an interesting experience...

In the thumbnail, yes! :)
Yes
5:09 The people at RMC thought they had to convert them to negative G Forces :D
Can you explain the g-forces on inversions
centrifugal and centripetal forces pin you into your seat in the same way that swinging a bucket of water above your head makes the water stay in the bucket
Positive g-forces are experienced during inversions most of the time, which pin you down into your seat :)
my man is still hearting and commenting. nice vid btw :)
goooood video man!
Thank you! :)
Hey could you make a video about the booster maxxx? Its a insane flat ride its 60 meters high and goes 140kmh
