I’m a fairly new dad, 2.5 & 4 months. My dad passed when I was 8, and while I’m super techy your channel relieves the anxiety that I won’t be able to help my children with my weaker areas that involve more hands-on tasks. Thank you for this channel.
The last time I changed my battery four years ago, my dad was standing over me (I’m sure he would have loved to help more, but he was so weak from chemo). He died three years ago. While I know I can do this myself, I knew it was smart to watch a refresher on the order to do things. Thanks for filling in for my dad. He’s grateful for you for watching over his little girl when he can’t. (He always encouraged us to do things. He grew up a farm kid so had to do much and made sure his kids-both sons and daughters-could take care of themselves. Just like you’re helping all your Internet kids do things!)
the fact that he tells us how to do stuff when he never had a father figure just shows how passionate this man is to teach people stuff. your a GOAT man, keep it up.
My dad was present but not really around to teach me these things so thank you. He was present but absent at the same time. I know some people will give me hate for this, but I rather he wasn’t around at all.
I can really feel your pain as like you, too have a father who just happen to be a guy who gave me life. Never helped me in anything I did or taught me things that I really wish he had. I too wished that he didn't exist at all in my life. He made my family's life a living hell.
I hope one day you and ur father can reconcile bc having a father who is still alive can easily be taken for granted until it’s not…take care God bless you all
My Dad had dementia and we basically lost him 5 years ago. He taught me so much. I miss being able to call him and ask about these things. He was a man that could do anything when it came to cars, construction and all things “handy man”.
Thank you so much. My dad was never here for me. I'm now 22 and he lives not far away from me but he never asks about how am I. Ofc he never teached me how to do anything. But you did so much for me, just being there for all of us. Thank you ❤❤❤
Hmm might go ahead and try and save myself $100 next time I need a battery change. Thanks for this! Your explanations are always detailed and encouraging.
My father died 3 years ago and I still miss him EVERY SINGLE DAY! He was there for me in all the ways that were important. My father however never really took the time to learn me how to do repair and fix things. I am the youngest child, the only girl in a male dominated family.. and my father told me that my brothers and uncle’s could me help me fix stuff. 😅 This doesn’t really work however so I am trying to learn all these things by myself now🤷🏻♀️
I grew up with an abusive father before we cut him out of my life and I never really had a figure besides my mum to teach me life skills like this, so thank you dad for helping us❤
Thank You, Your Voice is very calming and encouraging. Thank you from a girlie girl with no Dad who needs her battery changed. I feel I can do it now. God Bless you & everyone else too :-)
I did it!!!!! THANK YOU SO SO MUCH Oh and the joke is going great! TY any video on fuses? I will lookl Thanks again and Merry Christmas and a GREAT New Year to you and all
My dad died in 2014, all of our family left us after that happened and I've had to figure out life without a male figure. Now 23, I found your channel and I just want to say thank you. This helps a lot. 🙏
You are a hero, children who don't have a father can watch your videos so they can do this or that thing. And you help many people, I want you to live a great and good life. When you die you will be remembered not as a simple person but as a hero you need to go to heaven
Keep in mind newer and not so newer cars (mine is 2017) have battery monitoring, so you have to know how to reset that. Just search RUclips and usually you’ll find ways to do it, doesn’t have to be reset by the dealer or another repair shop.
I have to change out the generator battery & hadn't found a clear, trustworthy source to demonstrate how. I didn't want the expense of someone else doing it (including not getting the $ for the old one) & my friends are too kind & wouldn't have allowed me to pay them. What a relief that I'll be able to do this before winter!!!
Just tripped over your channel and had to watch a view videos. That there is a person caring for those who aren't that lucky to have a dad leaves me in absolut tears (of joy). I want to thank you for bringing a litte releave to me (shure not me alone) I lost my dad and my brother in an accident when I was 10 (now 34) so I know a life without a dad! So many times I thought: what would my dad do? Now I can have a litte answer to this! You mister are wonderful!!❤ Lots of love from Austria❤ ps.; hope my english is understandable😅
Hey there, i love your videos they helped me since i found your Channel. My Dad passed away when i was 7 now i am nearly 22 with my Birthday only about 23 Days away. And yeah you helped me by so many questions i had only by watching your videos. I am really glad you are doing this.
I put the receipt for the battery in a zip-lock sandwich bag and duct tape it to the battery. That way, I never lose it. It's never melted or caught fire in all the years I've done it. Comes in handy for trading in the battery.
I’m 35 years old and watching your video because my dad didn’t teach his daughters anything about cars. Only his son. Would tell us we could go to a mechanic to learn things about cars if we needed to, but took our brother aside in the drive way with his car and taught him car maintenance. Unfair world sometimes.
In my toyota, if I disconnect the battery without preserving power to the computer I will lose all settings on my car computer. This includes some settings that can only be done by the dealer. You need something like an ECU memory saver that has a small battery just to keep the computer memory intact.
Tip from Ukraine: even bad car battery can be useful. It still can store enough energy to charge your gadgets(laptop, smartphone etc.) a lot of times in case of blackout. All you need is relatively cheep outlet charger and inverter.
Love this channel. Can you please explain why you do stuff, for example, why do you have to disconnect the negative side first and then the positive side? etc
One note. Leave those plastic caps on the posts until you are ready to attach the cables. If you accidentally bridge the two posts you can cause quite a bit of damage to your self, car and/or tools. Had a retail place mechanic lightly weld a couple of his tools together while replacing my battery. BTW, some places will replace the battery at no extra charge if you buy the battery from them.
Thank you dad, I know you're not my real dad but my dad is in a better place now so thank you dad I really like your videos I'm 18 and my dad isn't with me to teach me new things like changing the battery and shaving but you were with me thank you dad 🥹
Just a note to watch while you are tightening the negative terminal. some batteries have a metal restraining harness that crosses the middle of the battery and if the wrench touches that when you are tightening the nut then ZAP !!.
Important note to explain the mounting/dismounting order - we disconnect minus terminal first - so in an event of creating short circuit with your tools - nothing happens. That also means that after disconnecting minus terminal - any short circuit created with car's body, while unscrewing plus terminal, will not be dangerous. Otherwise, if you start from plus terminal, and accidentally touch car's body (which is wired to minus terminal) with your socket wrench - hundreds of amps will flow. You can destroy car electronic systems that way - not to mention you can burn yourself and/or melt those touching parts.
One thing that I like to do when changing battery. Sandpaper battery terminals and cover them with copper grease. It'll prevent oxidation and give maximum electricity flow.
Thank you for the knowledge and also for having such a calm disposition. Helps to calm any anxiety on might have attempting to do this. One question - what size tools did you use to remove the nuts? Thanks!
Some vehicles will require a memory saver to keep adaptive memory settings when disconnecting the battery. Newer vehicles may even need reflashed by the dealership if precautions aren't taken. Of course, never disconnect while the engine is on.
Apologies for the silly question, but - I saw you touching the terminals, even when both were connected to the battery, without getting shocked. Is that because the car isn't on? I'm about to try to change mine for the first time and, well, safety first, right?
Note, this applies to non-ev cars. Note 2: if your non-ev car is very new, you may first have to consult your owners manual to locate the battery in an exceptionally hard to reach spot, and it might be virtually impossible to disconnect the cables without specialized tools, minor or major disassembly of surrounding components, or some very creative thinking.
I don't have a car but I'll gonna go practice on next door neighbour's, he's got a bit of a short fuse (hehe) himself. I'll let you know how I get on...
My “dad” took my car apart, leaving me stranded in the middle of nowhere.. and now is forcing me to wait for days before he’ll fix it. I feel so isolated and alone
REMOVE the positive lead FIRST!!!!! The reason: If you remove the negative lead first and the battery still has a charge...then the charge will look for the easiest way to get to ground...which will be through YOU!!! That may kill you!!!! Removing the POSITIVE lead/cable/connector first is like turning off the power to the battery!!! If you take away the positive lead first then any residual power/charge will then go to ground/negative lead.
My dad passed away on 07.09.2024. Your videos have been very helpful. I look forward to more videos.

Hello, Dad, when you were changing the battery, I looked carefully and learned all the tips.thank you❤
Thanks dad! I was always told to take red/positive off first. And when I would ask the guys at autoshops, they would laugh or shake their heads.

Thank you!!

Great video...never knew...😊
Can you do "how to jump start your car?" I'm always worried I will have to do it and will not know it.
Thank you for your work! 🙌

is terminal grease important and anti corrosion washers?
I have never used them, but honestly I don’t think they would be a bad idea, and they’re pretty inexpensive
Dedication to finish the video with the rain. :)
Having those double extensions was my problems, er the lack of having that is.

Hey pops quick question, is there a way to clean the filter without having to buy a new one?
No, and they really aren’t that expensive. Should be less than $20
Thanks, Dad❤ I'm from Russia, city Perm❤
I had to subscribe after watching this 😎😎😎💙💙💙❤️❤️❤️

Спасибо, вайбовые видео, продолжай так же, ты классный бро
Hey dad ,why do you put the positive on first? is their any particular reason for that?
Not too many batteries that simple in anything newer than a 2017. Most have power distribution centers directly on the battery now.
Больше людей как тебя и мир стант лучшим!
the insulation cover must be so it doesn't get too cold in winter, since it's difficult to start the car when the battery is cold
9 years on a dry battery? What brand are you using sir?
Interstate from Costco
На самом деле, классный дядька
Woah i didn't realize this is just 10 days ago

Removing the POSITIVE lead/cable/connector first is like turning off the power to the battery!!! If you take away the positive lead first then any residual power/charge will then go to ground/negative lead.
That is incorrect, look it up ⬆️
This would be a great time for you to do a series of voter education videos!
