Walk to 5th Avenue, cross the street and turn right. Go up 5th to 47th Street and turn left into the Diamond District. You never know what you'll find there! Take care and be safe, Bill😷

    (Joyce). That was fantastic! I was particularly glad you included a few of your wife’s good watches as they will be a good example for my search for a couple of good watches to add to my collection. You will probably be horrified to know one of my favorite watches is the Swatch Bora Bora scuba, but I’ve been to and snorkeled in Bora Bora so I associate it with great fun, great memories, and I still wear it to the beach or just to the pool with a big smile on my face. I’ll make a point of giving my future good watch(es) a life and story of it’s own as well. Thank you for sharing the secrets of what makes those good looking watches tick, and why it matters.

    • @watchartsci

      Hi Joyce, what would be horrifying would be to take a luxury watch snorkeling in salt water. The Swatch Bora Bora Scuba makes perfect sense. As for women's watches you can find a few videos I did on women's watches. Here's one about how I got my wife her Bovet and the decision-making process in looking at several women's watches ( ruclips.net/video/X476Guls0Ko/видео.html ) and here's another about finding a nice woman's watch (ruclips.net/video/xiXJVTE8v_8/видео.html). @@watchartsci thank you kindly Bill. If you can enlighten me. Habring 2 make as less if not lesser watches than FP Journe. Their quality may not be of the same level but why such huge price difference?

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  3 года назад +1

      @@richardtan322 Richard Habring wanted to make a good simple watch with excellent horology at a price most collectors could afford. That's what he did. He had worked for IWC and developed a dopple system for them (and possibly other big companies), but he wanted a pace he and his wife Maria could work at without a lot of pressure. His 'advertisement' is through the many prizes he's won at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève and he's always taking orders. Of all the watches I own, my Habring2 Felix still is the most consistently accurate.

    Bill, I am totally envious of your collection. As you discussed in a recent stream, there are many watches you could not afford now. I am sure the Ressonance is one.
    You have taught me so much about watches, watchmakers and movements. Thank you. You have so many watches that are very dressy. I prefer more sporty watches with metal bracelets. I want a blue dial Rolex Skydweller. It has the most horology of any Rolex watch with that innovative bezel. I could stretch for retail. But today, paying 3x retail is out of my price bracket. I hope luxury watches are a bit like Dutch tulips. I can hope. Having said that, when it comes time for a dress watch, I have three names in mind. Daniel Roth, H. Moser and Roger Dubois. There is also a skeleton Breguet I like. Before watching your channel, I didn't even know any of those brands even existed. You are a marvellous teacher. Job well done.

    Bill, The salmon dialed FP Journe Chronometre Ressonance is stunning and the blue and steel dialed Bovet is a wonderful horological confection. In many ways, three of the “simplest” references are among the most charming, the Habring and the two Vaucheron Constantines. The 1972 trapezoid form VC from 1972 is not only lovely but symbolizes an act of faith. When it was crafted, nobody knew what lie on the horological horizon for fine Swiss mechanical watches. As Anne Bradstreet wrote in a poem about the loss of her possessions when her house burned down in 1666, “There’s wealth enough, I need no more.” She was referring to her faith in contrast to her material possessions but she could have been referring to the constant battle watch collectors have with regard to calling it a day and just enjoying the watches that they already own. Cotton Meyers.

    Good morning Bill. I have been going through you past videos and came across this one, "State of the Collection: 2021".
    You have the finest collection I have ever seen, you've awoken the "Green Eyed Monster" in me! I especially love the Parmigiani Kalpa, which I've seen (both on and off your wrist) in other videos of yours. I recently found a similar Kalpa which I love, but am unsure of the size.
    If possible (I know I'm asking a lot), do you know the dimensions of your Kalpa? The one I'm looking at is listed as 35mm X 45mm and I have nothing in my collection to compare it too. My wrist size is approx. 7 1/2 inches in circumference.
    I've always liked the look of yours on your wrist and I'm hoping the measurements are the same.
    As a side note, I still can't take my Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda Metrograph (that you recommended) off of my wrist.
    If you could answer my question it would be a big help, if not, I understand.
    Best Regards,
    Brian

      @watchartsci  3 года назад +1

      Hey BG; most Internet watch collectors have never had or used a PF bracelet. So their opinions don't matter, even though they think they do. The bracelet on my Kalpa is the best bracelet I've ever had or seen. Anyone listening to uniformed opinions ends up with uninspiring watches. That's fine and it's not so much work for the watch manufacturers to keep cranking them out. Take care and stay safe, Bill😷

      It's easier said than done as things change, but that's an interesting idea. Will regular wristwatches become extinct and be replaced by smart watches, or will each person remain according to his desires?

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  3 года назад

      Hi JJ, to some extent both quartz and smart watches have made mechanical watches extinct-ish ... even my iPhone has. Collecting mechanical watches is collecting the past when time was told by a series of gears powered by the unwinding of a spring and regulated by another spring ... for telling the correct time, they are indeed obsolete (and have been for years); however, they are not now nor will likely be in the future, extinct. Take care, Bill
