    Congratulations on a stunning and ever growing collection. My wife decreed a halt to mine, but I’m still grateful for your videos over the years that turned me on to Journe, Gronefeld, Czapek and others. Thanks to your channel I learned when to move quickly and made very few mistakes. Bravo to a marvelous collection Bill. 🥂

    I loved this. It's so refreshingly different from most of the rest of RUclips watch channels with their obsession with hype watches and vulgar "flexing". Would I be right to say that a lot of your watches have elements of very classical and very modern design combined in a single watch? More power to your elbow!

    What a great diversified collection! I especially enjoyed the timepieces from Bovet and FPJourne. No Rolex and Omega I noted. My collection consists mainly of Rolexes (4 different models), Omegas and Breitlings. Now wanting to explore more classical looks and different complications: Breguet, Bovet, Ulysse Nardin,… I have not had the time to really look for a moonphase but will do in a few months. Great channel as always!

Just wonderful that a $200 watch can be in a collection right next to a F.P.Journe Chronometre à Resonance......SIMPLY because you like it. What else matters? That's a lot of synthetic sapphire and many proprietary lubricants for someone afraid of Silicon. I hope none of those parts are made with MEMS and would be hard to replace without modern production capability.

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  Год назад

      Mr CasiOak... hey, all of the other components you mentioned are fine. Silicon hairsprings have huge advantages ... non-magnetic, maintain their shape better in heat and cold ... in most cases probably a more accurate watch. Most silicon hairsprings are too brittle to adjust with a curb regulator, and I got all the silicon I could want in Quartz watches and in smart watches ... and far more accurate than any mechanical watch. If you want watches stuffed with silicon hairsprings, knock yourself out ... I chose otherwise. Take care, Bill

    • @mrcasioak1521
      @mrcasioak1521 Год назад

      @@watchartsci The freesprung balance wheel can be regulated traditionally, just not with a curb regulator. Additionally Omega has added the spirate system, which allows tuning of the spring tension, allowing for fine adjustment with a single screw, by units of 1/10 of a second a day. Not fetishizing it, just not afraid of it being in one of my watches.

    • @watchartsci

      @@mrcasioak1521 Nobody is afraid; your term-an intentional cheap shot. I don't care for plastic plates and bridges either. It is very difficult to create good minimally magnetic hairsprings like the Parchrom (niobium and chromium) as Rolex has or the Straussman hairsprings (niobium and titanium) as Precision Engineering has for Moser. I'm aware of the spirate system Omega developed using silicon. You're clearly a fan of silicon, and I am not. I prefer transitional metals; you're ok with metalloids. Fine, like I said, knock yourself out. However, using cheesy barbs like 'fear of' silicon, is no credit to you nor your insistence that everyone must agree with your tastes. You can wallow in silicon for all I care. I choose not to.

    • @mrcasioak1521
      @mrcasioak1521 Год назад

      @@watchartsci you're aware of it yet you choose to ignore it. I don't want to 'stuff watches full' with it, nor wallow in it. Nor do i ask about plastic plates and bridges, which you add to the conversation. Those are your words with which you cast shade. You have a problem with sincerity. I admire engineering solutions. I also admire the parachrom hairsping in my Submariner, and wouldn't turn my nose up at one with siloxi in it either.

    • @watchartsci

      @@mrcasioak1521 Look, you're acting like the salesman trying to push a product to a customer they did not want. At the NYC Watchtime Show I asked Kari Voutilainen if he'd ever use silicon hairsprings, and he told me No. Roger Smith said No. Agenhor said No. The Geneva Seal Foundation said No. No sale! But no one tells you, you cannot use silicon hairsprings, so why all the whining? Before I retired I used to program mobile devices like Smart Watches and iPhones. Amazing things can be done in silicon; but I have chosen to take a mechanical path, avoiding silicon in the watches I choose. I could care less if you want to buy watches with silicon hairsprings, but for me, No Sale!
