His ‘friend’ was the voice in his head that said “there is no-one else, you are all alone, accept it and push on” the ‘woman’ over the radio was another voice in his head, that was the HOPE he was holding onto that someone else existed, that he was not alone. The truth was too hard to accept, so he had a battle raging within.
At the end he was having to come to terms with reality. He decided to accept the truth.

This film is so well done its hard to express. I watched it through just once but it stuck in my head for weeks. I couldn't shake the idea of, how lonely do you have to be before your mind creates an imaginary friend. Then how long of living with your figment does it take to forgo the chance to find another real person. This scenario haunted me. Then it hit me.........there is no other person......he is so utterly alone his mind is creating a new friend. It was when he told Ford the radio is how he found him that drew me to the conclusion, there is no one else. Just a desperately lonely person with no hope. Well done.

Some pluses and minuses both in this film ( minuses like having filthy faces and skin even after just having had a bath,or frequently finding canned goods but not being able to find/ improve their tattered clothes, a little too much eyeliner on Luca!, both bodies Luca found still being fairly fresh, though whatever SHTF event occured, was supposed to have taken place 7 years previous) Still though, overall entertaining and fairly well done. I would argue that both Ford (Ford gives us a clue that he may be a delusion when he mentions Luca stinks, but he himself is relatively odorless!) and the voice in the radio signal were part of Luca's delusion. The 'HOPE' being the psychological carrot he dangles in front of himself to continue to have a reason to live and carry on. Gave it a thumbs up overall.

Some Lessons: Always keep your batteries charged, walkie talkie on, and use a large hilltop antenna to reach far way persons who just might be listening. Just dont IGNORE the signals. Only at the ending is I fully understood this film: hopeful, yet ironically -hopeless in a sense... Definitely a must-see.

Ford is not real too, he is a coping mechanism of luca. Notice: when ford scared luca in the beginning, ford said he always knows where luca is. Also when they walked on the traintracks ford was reminding luca of good and bad memories, saying; “you couldnt even slit your own wrist”, wich is clearly luca talking to himself. Also ford claims that luca smells, whilst he himself is pretty odorless. Propably along with some other hints i didnt notice. In the ending, ford suddenly disappears from underneith luca, and pops up behind him, wich is another hint to his non existence. Your right that the voice from the walkey talkey in the end is lucas imagination cuz she knows his name, and it is symbolising hope for finally finding another human being. Ford says “if you answer that i’ll be gone forever”, not because he wants to leave or for no reason, but because luca knows deep down that the voice is imaginary, and if he answers it’ll be gone. Thus the hope for finding someone will be “gone forever”.

Great short film that kept viewer interested as to what happens next. So many questions were left to be answered in the clip, the production team could have another successful film if they make it. They just need to get the word out, maybe with an announcement at the end of the clip.

If its been 7 years since this apocalypse, they would be skeletons by then. Or, there are a number of survivors scattered around and he has managed to avoid them due to his insanity.

I don't think Ford was anything negative. I think Ford was a manifestation of Luca's survival instinct. The very first thing we see Luca do is steal jewelry, where as Ford gives him canned food. Luca want. Ford tells Luca to bathe, encourages them to go to an area with a warmer climate, discouraging suicide, and ultimately to stick with him and not the woman. Stick with your survival instincts. If people have been gone for so long and she somehow survived she can't be as defenseless as she sounds, it could be a trap. If she is defenseless than it's going to be a burden on his survival, which he is already barely doing. There is a hierarchy of basic needs and unfortunately shelter and food come before companionship. His survival could be threatened by her and in those living conditions there would be no way to reproduce.

Great, I escape DUST because I'm sick to death of writing my own endings and this happens. Isn't it a bit pretentious - or at least lazy - to not just finish a script? The problem with the sort of people who thrive on movies where they can say "you just don't get it" is that they only satisfy people who can't think of more than one explanation. The rest of us, people who spend all day writing software and want to take a break from thinking and just watch a good story, are left dissatisfied. Soooo much potential too, it was brilliant til it wasn't :(

17 couch potatoes with no skills, job or purpose in life voted this film down. Most likely they are too damn stupid to understand the story and appreciate the cinematography alone. The actor were outstanding and those nasty, hateful people show up. Don't tell me it is an opinion because unless you are 3 years old and wanting dinosaurs to show up your thumb down is a joke. Maybe Darth Vader will show up on the next film you watch.
The other thing is why do people analyze the fine details like clean shaven and clothes and should look past that because it is a short film on a tiny budget. People need to get past those things and look at the vision, acting and story line and how many are putting their life into these films and can't afford a stylist and a wardrobe professional to amuse the shallow people looking for a Hollywood production.

Yes, Art is subjective but, really, it was by any film-educated standards just so thoughtfully done. If it just boils down to 'not my thing' is that any logical reason to give it a thumbs down? What we really need is more than one category to rate these: perhaps whether you would recommend it and whether you think there is artistic or technical merit. Say, three categories. By the way, if it's not your thing, that is an important and valid metric for predicting a film's box office success. I mean, mostly sci-fi, fantasy, and futurism fans spend any real time here: we are the people who matter to these makers and distributors so let us be the focus group. Ball's in your court, Dust!
