The desolation of knowing, well and truly, that you are one of the last, if not the last, is utterly terrifying, and this conveyed that masterfully. No boogeymen or monsters, zombies or soldiers, but a man awoken to a riven world and ridden with sorrow, and utter loneliness.
The worst thing to be trapped with is isolation. A monster, animal or enemy human would probably kill you quickly, but isolation forces you stay alive with despair. Then you’re forced to choose between living with it or putting an end to it all.
The woman seems to be well supplied and well equipped, not out of ammo. Her uniform looks new (after 17 years of war!). She openly wears the political symbolic of her army on an enemy territory, which would be risky if she was not connected to her unit, while obtaining neutral clothing would be easy. This brings the conclusion that the enemy actually won the war. Also, there is not much of bodes lying around, except the teammate of the protagonst, who possibly left the shelter recently as well (he had the charged transmitter), but was killed. This suggests that the population had, at best, evacuated, and at worst, was enslaved/exterminated by the enemy forces, who wears the symbols resembling those of the Nazis. It doesn't need a "part 2" It needs the continuation story you write for yourself in your own mind. This is how things used to work before the media studios convinced you to outsource your imagination to them - exclusively and entirely.
This is truly sci-fi done right. Creates unanswered questions and briefly introduces you to entire worlds that can be both disorienting and inspiring. Make the trick to making movies great is to limit the runtime, since this short accomplishes more in 20 minutes than most Hollywood ventures do in 2+ hours.
I’ve never felt so lonely and hopeless before watching this video. This was so amazing, it deserves to be a movie. Heck, this even deserves to be a TV series!
it is so rare to feel such emotions with a '' simple '' short film on the internet. What an absolute gem. this film is incredibly well made. i absolutely love it.
The part where he lost the radios power and where he try’s to call anyone on the radio nearly made me cry that means this is very very well made great job. :]
...the lucky bastard...for those eyes to be the only ones to ever share a gaze with...The perspective viewpoint, emotional journey, and complimentary soundtrack make this an intense watch and must see! Good job Gavin!!!
HOLY HECK! The editing, the set design, the props, the costuming, the world building, the acting!!! How was this not a major blockbuster film?? How am I just now seeing this??
It was nuclear war. If you listen closely to the radio signal a person says "The enemy has overwhelmed our defenses with biological and nuclear weapons"
that's what happens when indie comes in line. They don't have pressure from shitty producers that only target what they're estimating being "what masses wants".
Definitely reminiscent of the old Twilight Zone episode "Two," which similarly had little to no dialogue, and starred only Charles Bronson and Elizabeth Montgomery.
Well done. One of many standout moments is after he shot the flair. He looks down with no expectations of a reply, but in the reflection of his visor you see another flare...but he's still looking down ! Hurry.. look up...oh crap ...he's gonna miss it ! Then... he looks up and sees it. That was magnificent filmmaking to me. Could not have been done any better. Just one of the exceptional scenes in this well done short. Bravo !
Gavin, do not care about the "rip-off" issue. It is completely meaningless. You created a film and this film will stand the test of time. Your film is very well done, has a compelling story to tell, cool visuals and a decent score. Acting is good. Anybody who knows the least bit about filmmaking should acknowledge the achievement of making such a piece. Yes some stories have been told already, so what. Go pick your noses, people.
even the moral concept, is beautiful, that life is more important that war. that even when there is nobody left, two people on enemy sides, should find peace amongst eachother. maybe that is what mr. director was trying to say. in honor of their father.

This was terrific! The blasted-out cityscape is one of the best I've ever seen for a post-apocalyptic drama. Love how there is almost no dialogue. The story is conveyed through the actor's reactions to his environment. Also loved how the tech is reminiscent of the chunky-bulky tech of 70s and 80s sci-fi films. Great job!
the orange box I was really sad when he cried thinking that no one was around. Left alone in isolation. No one to talk to and thinking you are the last man in the world, that really messed me up.
It's truly amazing how great a movie can be without any dialog what so ever. The expressions tell more about the character and events then any talking would ever do. And the music is perfect for the scenes. Really great film. Do more like this.
Fantastic production value. The city, the wardrobe, props, most of the effects, the acting, all incredible. Like... some of the best I've seen. I love the ending and all of the implications. It's sorta lucky the enemy was a woman, but it's also like... "what would they even fight for?" Which is why I assumed he lowered his gun. There were moments where the story sorta dragged, but it wasn't awful. I made it through to the end, which is more than I can say about my own projects. Brava. Subscribed.

When the "sole survivor" took off his helmet and mask I kinda felt free as well. And just overall, the acting is amazing.

He looks down with no expectations of a reply, but in the reflection of his visor you see another flare...but he's still looking down ! Hurry.. look up...oh crap ...he's gonna miss it !

Brava. Subscribed.
