  • Music, or rather no music, can influence the experience you have during a ketamine infusion. Dr. Ko shares a study on this very topic, as well as what he does for his patients musical experience during ketamine infusions at his clinic.

I absolutely think music is one of the keys to a good treatment. Pick music that is soft, calm, meditational driven and you can get lost in. Headphones are a must. I also suggest a darkened , cool room with a blanket, no light. I use a small fan that blows across my face but not in my face.

Same here! I totally agree with you. I do everything to make myself comfortable to facilitate a positive experience. I listen to bi-level music with no lyrics with earphones and it has really enhanced the experience and has made the treatments extremely pleasant and calming. I was scared before my first treatment and the music helped me just float away from my fear.

I've had 3 infusions so far and music is an absolute must. I believe the lyrics of the songs I chose to listen to and my thoughts about them while dissociated seeped into how I feel about things now, like power of suggestion but much stronger. Like power of "you can control these thoughts now, not the other way around". Absolutely life changing and a true miracle. I feel like I'm finally back.

    Current notes :
During “ pre music” stages, setting intention moving into the musical process .
Not everyone has access to the medically supervised process. This RUclips channel has been amazing source of information
Experimentation: two-step musical process . I love what he says with using new music. This serves as a pattern interrupt or new pattern of thinking.
2 steep music process selection use : Music is subjective . Music choice based on feelings of 1 your connection to the divine. 2. Playful music. ( theory of balance)
    1. Powerful music, that reminds us : you are close to source and divinely protected by a higher power . helps you feel a deep connection to source in a positive way. music that your highest and best self would choose to represent that connection )
Examples : Viking tribal / gospel/ Indian trance / Sufi , classical music symphony or orchestra
( Currently looking into the idea of binaural beats and low level frequencies tones .
No information to share yet. )
During the process : mental review on the intentions set before the process . Set in a positive way. ( i’m no longer weak vs. The strength currently felt. )
Music selection Steep 2 : gradually switching and transitioning to something playful and fun . curb any potential thoughts of existential dread. Life should be Playful
Examples : ( Deadpool soundtrack/ guardians of the Galaxy)
After effect : we are feeling powerful, connected to our higher power, at the same time, Playful and whimsical, relaxed .
Currently looking into the best time of day for results .
    Morning
    Mid day
    Evening
Morning: pros and cons : it can set a good pattern for the day, however, some people may feel groggy
Midday : pros and cons: peak energy and concentration during the process. focus is best. Cons: it can take a few hours away during the peak production hours .
Evening, pros and cons : powerful intentions before going through your stages of sleep cycle. cons: reinforcing the set intentions coming out of trance is more difficult because you are more likely to fall asleep.

I've been sending myself RUclips links to crystal singing bowl music baths.
Before being told to find music for my upcoming infusions ... I was already searching. I felt I was going to need it! ... along with Bluetooth wireless earbuds and something soft to hold. This just made sense to me.
I'm glad I've been preparing because the last thing I need to happen is to have a (NON-epileptic) anxiety seizure during my first infusion. I reaching for tools to help battle the fear some people report.
After over 30 years in this prison of depression, anxiety seizures, military PTSD with MST (military sexual trauma), chronic pain, chronic suicidal ideation, debilitating agoraphobia, etc.
Nothing has worked. Not any of the dozen or so antidepressants over the years. Years of talk therapy. Multiple hospital stays. Self medicating with weed and alcohol (I have a 1 drink limit lol).
Weed is the only illegal substance (in my bass-ackwards state) I've ever done. It helps in the moment. Then I wake up in the morning pissed I'm still alive. Another day of pain and suffering. Isolation.
My sister, a hospital nurse for over 30 years, told me that if a person is in excruciating pain every moment of every day ... they will go insane in 2 - 3 years. Is this where I'm at I often wonder.
After decades of soul crushing dissappointments ... it's hard to find hope in trying even one more avenue of treatment.
Should I take my Klonopin before my 1st treatment?
I'm trying to set myself up for success and a good experience while under ketamine.
I've read people saying they felt the urge to pee during infusions. Is this a side effect with most people? I'm not too proud to wear an adult diaper!
I really don't know what to expect and want to mitigate issues before they arise. Any pointers are welcome.
    I'll keep watching videos!

Day 1 I watched RUclips videos and I felt weird but thought it was ok but wasn’t sold on it. Day 2 the nurse really encouraged me to listen to music and oh em gee. Entirely different experience. I got to process so many things and I ended the treatment with a new mantra “who cares”? As in who cares about the mistakes I’ve made and the things that cause me anxiety. Who cares just let go. Today was day 3 and I again just let go and I didn’t want it to end. I was working through so many things. I think it’s a travesty that music isn’t the standard protocol

I listen to music every single day. Plus I have a specific taste in music. During my ketamine infusion I would just want really good eye mask that block out all the light unlike cheap ones. I would would also prefer to have something that blocks noise as well like noise canceling headphones. I would want total silence. Resting in the stillness and navigating through whatever seems to come my way without interference of external stimuli. If I would be in the position to choose and maybe expriment little with music. I would go with a 40hz sine tone. You can find the tone on the website that I will post. It is a low frequency tone and so you will need some really good headphones in order to hear it properly. Very few speakers can actually play this tone properly but one that can are most bass amplifiers. Bass amps are designed to handle low frequency sounds waves. This particular 40hz sine tone has been used in other medical settings to help with other brain health conditions such as Alzheimer patients. The frequency is thought to be very close to the frequency that resonance within your brain. And it believed to be the dominant resonance frequency in healthy minds. With Alzheimer patients it is believe that they lack this resonance and by supplementing could lead to improvement in brain activity. I think it is very relevant to ketamine therapy and other mental health conditions. Apart from any speculation of if it could help. I just like the way it sounds. Its a very deep sound. And the resonance is very appealing to me. Very deep and meditation. Almost like a deep AUM for all you meditation practising minds out there. Cheers ya'll!

But lately I’ve been putting on old Funk instrumentals, or at least with very incidental vocals (James Brown, P-Funk, Maceo Parker, etc), and it’s out of this world cool and fun.
Sometimes I just play Parliament’s Mothership Connection album all the way through. I always come back to find myself dancing in my chair and leave smiling. George Clinton said that Funk can heal, and honestly I think he’s right.

I started taking ketamine for pain and insomnia but recently after being on this for over two years, it wakes up my anxiety and I cannot sleep. I have huge panic attacks and am trying to find something that would make the anxiety go away. Any suggestions??

Our playlists are specifically curated for our patients. Check out
“ Johns Hopkins Psilocybin Playlist” & “Ketamine Playlists” on Spotify. These playlists helped us create our playlists. Best wishes
