I recently switched to an AX-Lightness Phoenix saddle. Although it’s not the latest model (2016), it weighs an incredibly light 62 grams. The saddle is made of bare carbon with no padding. Two days ago, I rode a 182 km tour from Nuremberg to Munich with it, and it was the most comfortable saddle I've ever ridden - absolutely no pain. You don't need padding to ride comfortably. I hadn't ridden much on the saddle before this tour and only made minor adjustments, having ridden about 100 km on it beforehand.
Concerning saddle: I have found a lil’ wonder on AE which weighs 80g and costs 30€… insane. And perfect for me. I have four of them, can ride for hours with it, magic
@@klein-concept no better yet it is a totally NO BRAND one. Many sellers have it and sell it as « carbon saddle » it is so cheap, sometimes 20€ that it serms fishy but no! Thank you great Vid. I’m in a weight weenie phase at present and similar to yourself looking at shedding un-necessary weight. The Rotor cassettes are crazy light but come with a price premium. You can also fit carbon axles (Super team I think), but again at a premo price. Maybe look at your handlebars as you can shave weight there along with swapping out stainless steel bolts for titanium. The titanium bolts are about 1/2 the weight of stainless steel. Maxxi have the best lightweight tyres and so some marginal gains. As i bet you already know it’s a case of gain Vs cost. I really appreciate you sharing this information and making this vid. Again, thank you
Thanks a lot for the tips. I was looking at lighter handlebars already but couldnt find anything that would be significantly lighter than the Avian Canary. Maybe the Darimo one. For the thru axles i actually already use the Carbon Ti ones which i think are only around 5g heavier than full carbon ones. I will have a look at swapping out the bolts for ti ones. Do you know how much weight can be saved there on a full bike? 🤜🤛
The changes you made are what I would have initiated mostly because those are the easiest to execute and also best weight saving u can get for each part change. The brisk wheels at 1KG are sick. I thought the crw wheels are already tops at 1.2KG Im curious why u did not address the dropbars. That's about 150grams for some Darimo ones. I have always wanted to know the weight diff of the elilee vs the dura-ace. The Elilee still has a lighter crank called the X-Novanta vs the X310 (and x320) but the price is eye-watering. Maybe you can double down on a sequel with the next level weight weenie changes ie bar tape, bottle holder, titanium bolts, carbon stem cap and see how much it will cost. More power
Hi, I found Tune saddles were always light and accurate with their quoted weight. I find that the AX-Lightness Phoenix saddle to be the lightest ive found, thats 65g. It doesnt work for me (unless i find a seatpost with 35mm setback, or i use it on a mountain bike) but its the same sort of shape as a Tune Komm-vor, speedneedle etc. Cheers.
First of all nice video! But what do you think, does the bike still look good with all this parts from different brands? Ok, the project aims to save as much weight as possible, but in general what is more important to you: the look or the weight?
