I have 2 custom titanium frame bikes that I love. One regular and one tandem. Both over 15 years old and obviously cable operated brakes. How many carbon frame bikes are over 15 years old and still look almost new. And at 72 years old, I don't plan on getting any new bikes, and I don't think that disc brakes are that much better than rim brakes. Although, the rear brake on the tandem is a cable operated disc brake. The extra power is needed on the tandem when stopping all that extra weight. So wheeltop was very smart to offer a cable brake option which allows people like me to upgrade an older bike. I just installed it on the tandem for under $600. I was thinking about using Shimano Ultegra 8000 parts but that would have cost about $1200. And then I would have had to drill 3 holes in the frame and figure out how to run all those wires and where to put the battery on a frame with S & S frame couplers. The frame breaks in half for travel. With the fully wireless Wheeltop system, all those problems are solved.
That is a really cool setup. Glad to hear it also simplified your tandem upgrade. Happy riding 🤜🤛

I wanted to buy Hunt aero wheels but I am really interested in the DT Swiss Oxics because of their increased braking power. My current brakes don't work so well when it rains.
@@ejima74 i was riding aero carbon wheels before. The moment they got wet there was almost no braking power. These DT Swiss ones are very powerful in every environment.
@@klein-conceptAre the DT Swiss Oxic wheels fast? On a different note, dp you think I should book a professional bike fit for myself?
@ejima74 for me they have been fast. Of course not like a 50mm wheelset but amazing wheels. Regarding the bike fit. How comfortable do you feel on your bike? Do you have any pain during longer rides? Are you racing and need to squeeze out some remaining watts? If the answer is no. I would say you will be good without a bike fit.

Good overview but does Magene use an app to setup the computer or to transfer GPX files? Could I easily move it from one bike to an another and keep my history from the other bike?
@@GG-si7fw you do it from their phone app. I used my google drive or dropbox to get the gpx file onto my phone. I dont fully understand what you mean with the history between bikes. I have my history on strava and only upload new things from the computer. Is that what you ment?

The only downside for me was that the rim brake version does not have reach adjust whereas the disc brake version does. Having small hands makes this an unfortunate no for me
Good point. I did not know that the disc version had that adjustment.
So glad I came across your channel ❤ love your contents and I've definitely taken some inspiration with your builds. Question, will the Avion Canary handlebar work with the Standert Triebwerk? If so any suggestions on which spacer is required? Thanks in advance 👊
Thank you so much. Very glad to hear that. I think it should fit. I think even with the FSA spacer it might work the same way as on the titanium bike. I actually wanted another Canary for the next build but looks like they are out of stock for a while again.

Mechanical disc/rim brakes > Hydraulic

Anyone know what the actual aerodynamic penalty is of these kind of framesets (watts at 40kph) vs modern aero-ish designs like an SL8 / System 6 / Propel / whatever?
Good question. Would love to know as well.
@@klein-concept the only direct comparison data I could find is from a GCN video. They used an oldish steel racing bike with box section wheels vs a pretty aero looking though maybe 5-10 years old now Pinarello with carbon wheels. I think at 45kph the difference was only 20 watts. A surprisingly low difference. Then they tested wearing old style clothes on the old bike vs wearing modern skinsuit/aero helmet etc on the old bike. The old clothes added 50 watts at 45 kph!!
So, you've upgraded from Dura ACE to Chinese shit, what a world we live in? BTW, what's the point of having wireless shifting, while brakes are cable actuated.
@@romanpramuka2703 lol i mean that was the bike i had ready to give this a try. I wanted to give this a test without having to build a new bike. Electronic shifting still can have more precision than mechanical and be lower maintenance and easier installation. Guess you could ask the same question with disc brakes as well. how does it perform compared to the ltwoo erx groupset? looking forward to the new erx groupset coming out later this year too.
The rear shifting is very similar. The front shifting is a bit snappier on the L-Twoo i think but as i m not using the front derailleur that often anyways its not really something i notice when riding out.
@@klein-concept cool! But, one question though. Is it too risky buying from ltwoo and wheeltop for the electronic groupset? Or is it all worth it and do you think it will last long same way with shimano and sram ones? Thank you
I dont know how long it will last but with L-Twoo i had good communication when it comes to support.
I would never in a million years take off my Dura Ace 9100 mechanical and put on that unknown nonsense. Once you have a problem you’ll never hear from them again as I can see from at least one commentator on here. There’s more than low price to any components. I don’t see anything attractive about Chinese groupsets!
@@BikeLife154 if you already have a 9100 group i agree. There is no need to upgrade as you already are riding the best mechanical groupset ever made. But if you re building a new bike and want to keep things on a budget this is still an alternative to di2 or axs setups. As you say service remains an issue for most of these brands so far but they are aware and must be working on establishing a service network.
@@klein-concept I understand what you're saying and I'm not here to argue, however, this groupset is £549 I believe in the UK and they provide no crankset or chain. I can buy an Ultegra R8000 rim brake groupset for £699 with the crank and chain. Yes, it's mechanical, but even that I would favour over this stuff coming out of china. I can see landfill galore in the not too distant future from all these broken Chinese groupsets from companies that are dead in a couple of yearš or refuse to help customers because of the financial implications. Btw Ultegra Di2 is £1299 again with a crank and chain. The crankset alone is £199 and the chain around £40-50 so the wheeltop group is now £800 with the cost of these added.
@@BikeLife154 good point and calculation. It is not a bargain and on the edge where you really have to think if you dont want to add that little bit of extra cash to go for Shimano. But for anybody on a really tight budget and who is dreaming of going electronic it is still a valid choice i think. Given that brands like Wheeltop and L-Twoo will be able to establish a proper service network eg in Europe.
Retail prices will come down and the creases will be ironed out in time. If Wheeltop,L-Twoo and Magene etc don't become major players in the electronic groupset market I'll be flabbergasted.
@@timdixo 🫶
This is a really interesting groupset. I really like the concept of no wires, so simple to build. Recently I have been playing around with mechanical disc brake calipers/Sensah shifters, just to see if they are as bad as people say. They are not. Once leverage is sorted, which requires a little engineering, they are great, the equal of my hydros though the lever feel is heavier due to the return springs. This groupset would be great with those calipers.....
Glad to hear you made the Sensah setup work. Most of the time these groupsets are getting really close to Shimano or Sram but require a bit more work when setting them up. Most of the time thats worth it due to the reduced price.
The idea of electronic shifting on my vintage bike intrigues me but honestly it wouldn't look good. With those bikes only aluminum components look right. There's nothing wrong fully mechanical systems so I'll stick to that.
If you want to keep that clean vintage look you are absolutely right. I sometimes like that batmobil touch on a vintage frame 😂😂😂

I am thinking of the disc version for my carbon road built. Sram and Shimano probably started to scratch their heads now. Lots and lots of people seriously turned to this chinese brand in the past few months.
And they are getting better and better.
Thanks for another great video KC 👍 I really enjoyed using my WheelTop EDS TX Carbon Disc groupset for the first 4 weeks that I owned it (here in the UK). Unfortunately the rear-derailleur stopped working after 600 Km (stuck in lowest gear and just beeps/whirrs when trying to change the gear). I swapped a few emails with WheelTop Support, but they tell me they will not help me, so I am left with a bike I cannot ride and no way of fixing it 😥 I really want to support WheelTop... but if they cannot provide any Support when they're product breaks, then I'm do not see how anyone can recommend it 😖
