Bill Nelsen, the Browns QB in this game, died earlier this year back in April. He was 78 years old.
Kind of weird to see the ball being thrown a lot in a game from 1970
I think the AFL was a lot more pass-heavy than the NFL back then (b4 the merger)

For Namath to throw for that many yards in that era is impressive. Say what you want about him but he changed the game in some ways.

First ever meeting between the two teams since 1970 was the first year of the AFL NFL merger. Browns came over from the NFL to the AFC for 3 million dollars.

I think they still do that in Canadian Football. Endzones are larger also.

You can't understand that NOW in hindsight. At the time, you wouldn't have thought twice about it being in the endzone. I never understood why people don't grasp the concept of hindsight when speaking about things like this.

Neither team has made it to the super bowl since this game. As a Jets fan you know how we feel, but it doesn’t hold a candle to browns fans.
See, this is what kills me inside... As a Bucs fan, we haven't had a really good season since XXXVII.. and they haven't been to the playoffs in forever... When in reality, the Browns and Jets have had far more failures. I feel bad for those die-hard fans that never leave. They deserve just a glimpse (I know the Jets went back-to-back in 09/10 and 10/11 for the AFC Title Game...) but to never return to the SB? Rough...
@@DavePainkiller As a Jets fan, I still love Mark Sanchez. He may have been a garbage QB, but beating the Pats in Foxboro in the playoffs deserves a tip of the hat.
I like the professionalism back then. Players did their assignments gave the ball to the ref, and on to the next play, no silly dances for getting a first down or a sack, etc.

Joe Namath is the only HOF QB in the post-merger era that threw more INT's than TD's, and he had a losing record as a starter, thus this game was pretty much a microcosm of his career.
He did some neat things, threw for 300 yards, a pretty TD pass, but ultimately lost the game because he was reckless and didn't take care of the ball, throwing 3 INT's including a pick 6 that clinched the loss, resulting in a lousy 68 QBR for the game.
Wow those QB drop backs were crazy far back then. Looks like drop backs from a Madden game back in the day lol

The Jets were hot stuff coming into the 1970 season but they didn't make the playoffs until 1981 crazy

Back when the Browns and Indians shared the stadium. A baseball diamond on a football field was normal for a long time. Looks crazy now.
Strange that after Homer Jones (85) ran that kickoff back he didn't spike the ball..he was the first player to do that in '65 while playing for the Giants.

55 years since the Jets only Super Bowl /win. The Chiefs went 50 years but have sure made up for it.

A lot of stuff is much different but the thing I noticed most was all the fat guys. Players from1960s and 70s in MLB and NBA could play today but absolutely not in the NFL except Jim Brown he would dominate today and by today I mean he’s in his 70s and he could kick the crap out of most of them. Well the kickers at least.

Sorry if I'm being a stickler, but that Browns helmet logo design is from 1975-95. Cleveland used the two-bar helmet logo from 1970-85 as their primary logo. Apologies if I'm incorrect.

Billy Andrews interception at the end. Me and my brothers went to the game . We thought it was strange to have a football on monday night.
I love how there were no "Hey look at me everybody!" touchdown celebrations and no spikes except for the very last defensive score to seal the game.
What a great punt at the end of the game
So refreshing to see under center offenses. I can't stand today's read option. Those 5 to 7 step drops are a thing of beauty. Namath had a gun.
If you look closely in the stands you can spot a young Hue Jackson ready to lead the team to 1 win in 2 seasons.
This is back in a time where the Browns where not a joke and the Jets where not known for the butt fumble.
Interesting to see the sidelines being far less crowded compared to today.
