I'm constantly thanking God that I was born in the 70's! LOL My dad even played in bands most of my life and primarily did southern rock/contemporary country stuff with soul music mixed in. Whew! This stuff helped build the entire music industry! Newcomers should do some studying and get back to basics!
Why did it take me so long to search for this song? This is another of my all time favorite songs. It's a great early 70s pop jewel that bears the feel of the time, with lyrics that embody societies attitude of the time. It a fun, toe tapping gem that I think holds up well. Three Dog Night had some infectuous tunes. This one is a perfect example.
This song felt good to me when I was a child in the 70s, and boy, it feels just as good and right now. Amazing singer, beautiful sentiments, great music.
I was born in 62. and seen them finally about 10 yrs. ago..at the Casino. in Orillia, Ont. You know they were just as good..As if you were playing a disc,.it was wonderful..
For years I went around thinking this was either Blood, Sweat, & Tears (David Clayton Thomas) or Chicago (Terry Kath) - 3DN!!! Great song, great memories!
I'll never forget my sister driving up to my parent's house in September 1972 in her new convertible VW Bug with this on the AM radio. She was going to take me out to buy me a birthday gift which was my first stereo from Radio Shack. Funny, how one song can spark one memory from the past.
damn i was born 1992 but i really eally wish i could have grew up in the 60's and lived through the 70's but when i start my band were gonna bring back that old skool rythem dont worry folks rock 'n' rolls not dead and will never die!
Looks like Tree Dog Night could spread some real true acceptance with one another, it's unfortunate not much has changed, To all fellow humans...I wish you all can live in peace and harmony !!!!!!
I remember all these tunes....I was there....now I can see the musicians...they were invisible on that old AM radio.....Great stuff....my children like this sound as well.....ages 12-24
What strikes me so much about Three Dog Night is how musically complex it is. They have so many different kinds of instruments. That's a thing that's missing now. EVERY band has two to three guitars and a set of drums. Period. Look at all the things these guys are playing! Look at their lyrics! This song is beautiful.
Three Dog Night could do no wrong in the 1970s. I wish I was there, as I was too young to remember their heyday, as I was only six years old in 1972 (when this song first came out). Long live Three Dog Night!
I'd give anything to get hold of a time machine, so I can go back in time & see Three Dog Night in their magnificent heyday!!! A big name concert only cost around $5 @ the time. I'll bet you got a lot of entertainment for your $$$ back in 1972!!! I was 6 years old that year, & I was a bit too young to see TDN in their prime. Bravo, Original Three Dog Night!!! R.I.P., Cory Wells, Jimmy Greenspoon & Joe Schermie. We miss you guys!!!
Early 70s had several hit songs w/ kids singing in the background (Playground in My Mind/ Candyman/ The Old Schoolyard/Sing a Song). I don't know what it was about that formula in that era, but I loved them all, and this one is the best. It works given the song's message and content. This song is awesome cranked!
I just saw them in concert in Nashville,TN last Thursday night and they are still great. Danny and Cory still have strong voices! The concert was wonderful!
What great memories. This was an attempt to bring sanity to a nation in peril. For a time, it did a good job. We can use more of this today!! Where is Three Dog Night when we need them again!
ageed, Sneed *is* the bomb. My brother and I loved his clear acrylic drum set with the lights on the base drum, that was the coolest! I wish he and Chuck were back in TDN. It will never really be complete until they are.
TDN were always criticized 4 not writing their own material. Big deal. They did a fabulous job of finding material, much of it unknown. They helped Nillson, Laura Nyro, Randy Newman, & many others get recognition as writers. Great arrangements. Many of their albums are underrated. (7 Seperate Fools has a great version of Allen Toussant's "Freedom For The Stallion").Oh, one other thing. Their music stands the test of time... easily!
1972 when I was PR & Sales Manager of EMI Austria a prominent member of ö3 (Austria's leading pop radio station) and I drove to Munich to meet the group for an interview and to attend their concert. At the beginning of the interview with lead singer Cory Wells he asked me to do it for him and tape-recorded it! When it was aired some days later, I was not really surprised that my voice had been replaced by his :-)
Would love to find the Live from Japan double LP that had this, with that amazing up/downbeat, and down/upbeat syncopation with the high hat, cowbell, snare, and tenor drums.
watching this after a long time ans listening to joe schermie's bassline I'm not sure that anyone realizes how unique it is/was I've NEVER heard anyone play bass like that absolutely incredible
This hit by Three Dog Night was the 176th #1 song on what is now Billboard's Adult Contemporary charts. It also hit #1 on the Top 40 charts and in Canada. It was #8 in Austria, and #24 in Germany.
How come these guys aren't in the Hall Of Fame ?? They have a list of hits longer than the span of the Golden Gate Bridge....OK a slight exagerration but the plain simple truth is they were an underrated band who put out good classic pop tunes over and over. Get em in there !! IMHO.
Baba Booey's comment is so right. I've been looking at Three Dog Night videos here and was thinking how despite their talent, no producer would let them near a stage nowadays. Let's face it, they weren't the most telegenic bunch of guys. It was the MUSIC that counted when radio was the thing.
You are so right. Forgiveness needs to take place, and egos need to be set aside. If I'm remembering correctly Danny Hutton was a heavy drug user as well, althought it wasn't herion. They, and most TDN fans are not getting any younger, and a lot of us would like to see a full reunion take place at some point. That would be the concert of the century for TDN fans. Oh, don't get me started on this, I could go on and on. Like another comment said, "Hey, if the Eagles can do it...
retro LOL I got you! thats your story and you are sticking to it. I am glad that you told me I could have been disillisioned for a very long time. Have a good one!

Love these guys. Three lead singers with great voices - so rare in rock bands.
This song felt good to me when I was a child in the 70s, and boy, it feels just as good and right now. Amazing singer, beautiful sentiments, great music.
S Kauffmann agreed
We can only just do our part . We will get no help.
these guys just don't know how great they are.
Oh boy the memories that Three Dog Night bring back to my world in West Hollywood on Kings Road. Love this song - awesome group, cool guys.
I was born in 62. and seen them finally about 10 yrs. ago..at the Casino. in Orillia, Ont. You know they were just as good..As if you were playing a disc,.it was wonderful..
This song has an important message and it brings a tear of joy to my eyes.
This song has helped me to become exepting of differences!!!!!
I love listening to them when I was growing up. I don't think the ever got the credit they deserved.
Joe Schermie had a wonderful a unique sense of rythmn
years before 'ebony and ivory ' same sentiment ,great band shaped my world view growing up
For years I went around thinking this was either Blood, Sweat, & Tears (David Clayton Thomas) or Chicago (Terry Kath) - 3DN!!! Great song, great memories!

More cowbell! Billboard's 318th #1 hit of the rock era. I'm very grateful that I've got close friends, both black, and, white. God bless!
So many great songs by this guys, such a wonderful years, big thumbs up!
Gus ☼
Always great to see Floyd Sneed at work.
This song was all about the times in the 70"s, Thank you so much Three Dog Night for writing this song. Pure genius!
Looks like Tree Dog Night could spread some real true acceptance with one another, it's unfortunate not much has changed, To all fellow humans...I wish you all can live in peace and harmony !!!!!!

Simon and Garfunkel, Foreigner, them...what more do you need. A terrific group, beloved by everyone who followed them
This song has always made me feel happy! :-)
This song is so brilliant...what I love about 3DN is they can always put you in a good mood.
I am Chinese, I was 21 when I heard this song, now I am close to 60 and in Hong Kong, I am still loving it.

When music had meaning, and this rare gem will remain timeless
Great song, great voice, great band!

Thank you for posting this song...
I learn of it as a child in grade school.
It still sounds good! And meaningful!

What great memories. This was an attempt to bring sanity to a nation in peril. For a time, it did a good job. We can use more of this today!! Where is Three Dog Night when we need them again!
I was born in '68 and the 70s were a great time to be a kid.
Well said - like you, I have always liked this song for it's message. Got to see them play this song in concert in Toronto many years ago too!
ageed, Sneed *is* the bomb. My brother and I loved his clear acrylic drum set with the lights on the base drum, that was the coolest! I wish he and Chuck were back in TDN. It will never really be complete until they are.
People I have finished high school when they were doing great music! I am missing it!
Between 1968 and 1975 there were some damn great groups and songs!
one of the top bands of their era
fantastic. love this song.
It is just a beautiful song, full of feeling and meaning, which is what today's music lacks of......
TDN were always criticized 4 not writing their own material. Big deal. They did a fabulous job of finding material, much of it unknown. this song was number one on the billboard charts the week i was born. =0)
FROM EL SALVADOR...MUCHAS GRACIAS POR LOS RECUERDOS.
Right on!!!!!!!!! Excellant job!
I was a teenager during Three Dog Night's era. Let me tell you, they were considered COOL AS HELL! and for good reason; the music speaks for itself.

I absolutely love these guys.Wish Chuck was back with them!!!
And he's a nice guy to boot! Oh yeah, and a fellow Calgarian!!!!! My favourite Canadian drummer, yes including Peart!
this song is a powerful song of how we should be to one another but it takes the eyes of a child to see the truth
This song to me honors Rev.MLK jr. memory and legacy
Was just reminded of this great song after watching an episode from the DVD "Life On Mars" (American version).
Thanks for posting, been wishing this was on here a while :)
I just love this song
Would love to find the Live from Japan double LP that had this, with that amazing up/downbeat, and down/upbeat syncopation with the high hat, cowbell, snare, and tenor drums.

I nominate this song to be our new national anthem. :)
tenía 14 años cuando escuchaba estas canciones y el mundo era un lugar perfecto
Me too. I listened to this record in high school

I highly recommend Chuck Negron's book - Three Dog Nightmare. Excellent book, great read.
One of my favorite Three dog night songs. Gonna be buying this song from oldies.com soon!

This was such a big, big song where I grew up.Buckeye Lake, ohio.
